Firstly, this book is very entertaining and fun to read. That's why it gests five stars - there is nothing that innovative though. I am a systems auditor - these are the sort of things that make going to work entertaining.

Some of the suggestions are a very quick way to get into trouble - PC anywhere in particular is a high risk product in it's own right - if the security settings are scrwed up. Who is monitoring your network traffic? Do you want them to know what's on your home PC? Have you set up PC anywhere securely?

If I discovered an employee routing (confidential)email outside the company network I'd be more disturbed by the security implications than the employee slacking off. Who at the ISP has access to the email?

The ideas in this book are rather similar to spending a sick day at a ball game, which your boss is watching on TV .... fine until the camera picks you out!

Fun book. Make sure you know your companies policies before you start to play ........

I have really enjoyed reading this book. It has some really funny, neat and clever ideas in "sticking it to the man" or boss for that matter.

The techno gadgets of today were supposed to make life easier, but what it's done is elongated our work week. Now, we're expected to work all the time. It never ends...

Well this book, takes a very tongue in cheek approach and will teach you how you can make it look like you are spending those hours working away, when you can be really spending time with the family, at the movies or just plain slacking off.

Active Directory is without a doubt the most important part of Windows 2000 and this book -- written entirely based upon the release version of Windows 2000 (not based on the betas) -- is a comprehensive introduction and reference to this important technology.

Building from the ground up, it combines step-by-step instructions to do complex tasks instead of dismissively telling you that you should do X (where X is undocumented elsewhere) and also teaches basic VBScript and integrates scripting solutions alongside point-and-click and command line methods.

The topics covered range from understanding and installing Active Directory through all the constituent parts to Group Policy, other Intellimirror technologies and advanced topics such as troubleshooting, interoperability and design issues.

I hope you enjoy the book.

I'd always thought my proposals were well written. But after reading Winning Strategies for Developing Grant Proposals, I got a much better understanding of what grant reviewers are really looking for.

I must say that I've had more success getting much-needed funds for our community projects. It's easy to read, and makes a lot of sense.

I'd always thought my proposals were pretty good. But after I read this book, and got the inside details on what grantors are really looking for, I had much better success in landing much-needed money for our projects.

It's really important these days to go the extra mile to get limited funds. And Winning Strategies for Developing Grant Proposals really made a difference.

In The Wireless Age: Its Meaning For Learning And Schools, Judy Breck (director of academics at bigchalk.com, an education portal serving the K-12 learning community) offers a jargon-free presentation of insights into the wealth of educational resources the Internet offers the classroom and students of today. Breck blends a theoretical explanation of the growth of cyberspace with a practical exploration of the tools available for its maximum utilization in the learning process. The Wireless Age is an invaluable introduction for classroom teachers, school librarians, education policy makers, and the non-specialist general reader with an interest in improving and enhancing the quality of public, parochial, and private schools.

Judy Breck's The Wireless Age is an enlightening and passionate prediction of the future role the Internet will play in education worldwide. Wires and plugs will disappear and all students may be empowered with their own handheld computer devices that will be as inexpensive as telephones. In the authors words:

"I predict that wireless handheld computers that include Internet access will make teaching in now difficult schools less frustrating and more fun. The kids will respond to having their own tools, just as ghetto kids did a century and a half ago to learning their letters by writing them on a tablet. The optimism of kids is the elixir that will restore the good health of teaching in America."

Making all that is known available to all children, through a far-reaching technological transition, raises crucial questions about the nature of teaching and learning. Will teachers understand how to apply this new, powerful global tool? To what end will it be applied? How will teachers engage students to use this wealth of knowledge? Will it change the meaning of learning? Will students know what it means to use knowledge to discover and create? What does all this mean to the standards movement engulfing American education? The author concludes:

"The Great Change will be complete when a student can hold in his or her hand everything that is known."

And our understanding of its meaning for learning and schools will just begin.

Excellent survey of web sites dealing with sexuality.

"The Woman's Guide to Sex on the Web" is a wonderful guidebook for those seeking sexual information and enhancement of their sex lives through the web. Well-researched, clear, and very readable, the book dismisses the sleazy pay-first come-ons that appeal only to men whose brains are encircled by their coronal ridge. My only complaint is its exclusionary title. This book is not just for women; it is for all people who see sex as a coming together of equals for mutual pleasure and celebration. In the often tawdry environment of web sex, this reasonable book is a breath of fresh air.

Finally, a publisher wise enough to realize that women ARE TOO interested in sex! And they found the perfect authors, with an appealing, down-to-earth writing style I can relate to.

This book covers everything - consumer issues, dating and cyber relationships, and of course the one most people can't bring themselves to believe women are interested in: erotica/porn.

I think this is a great gift for men to buy if they surf the "adult" side of the 'net alone and want to start including their partner. (though they may be pleasantly surprised that their partner is also surfing steamy stuff).

Bible for LA survival

As a working actor for most of my life, I can attest to the fact that of all the "how to" books on the market this book is truly a must have, especially if you are new to the LA market. Here you will find the best/cheapest/chicest etc place to (fill in the blank) get your nails done, get your photos copied, find a computer etc. It won't make you a better actor but it can help you survive in a tough city so that you can spend your energies improving your craft. I offer this advice as someone who recurred on 11 series including Seinfeld and Home Improvement and what is very nice now is that this book used to cost upwards of 125 new (I never owned a new copy but always one two years out of date! ) and now is just the price of a regular book. Combine this book with Judy Kerr's Acting is Everything and you are ready to begin to ask the eternal question "How do I get an agent"?

The Working Actor's Guide is, by far, the most comprehensive guide to acting in Los Angeles ever created. Nothing comes close to this directory. It has useful blurbs, detailed contact information, and various other handy resources that any actor (whether newcomer or well established) could use. As a young acting student myself and having purchased this guide for the past six years, I highly recommend it.

WORLD WHO'S WHO IN JAZZ, CABARET, MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT. Rating: 5 Stars.

A MONUMENTAL WORK. A GIGANTIC ACCOMPLISHMENT! FROM AUTHORITATIVE ARTICLES TO PARADE OF GLAMOROUS STARS!

Another spectacular masterpiece by entertainment critic and author extraordinaire, Maximillien de Lafayette. It is a gigantic set of 6 volumes exceeding 4,000 pages. An odyssey of the world of showbiz, music, jazz, American standards, and cabaret. And from a different angle, World Who's Who in Jazz, Cabaret, Music and Entertainment becomes a biographic encyclopedia of the who's who in music, the pioneers, the composers, the musicians, the stars, the singers and musical organizations. In brief, it is monumental. Sailing into the immense world of the six volumes, we discover the unexpected, an aspect of biographical work rarely revealed to the public: The advice and tips, the author and his editorial board of 100+ give the readers, the performers and singers. An elaborate chapter on what a singer must know and must do when booking a venue for a live performance illustrates the intensity, the practical value and use of the voluminous set.

The World Who's Who in Jazz, Cabaret, Music and Entertainment could be compared to a continuous non-stop symphonic performance by an orchestra of 1,000 musicians from all genres and schools under the baton of an international conductor. Each one brings to the symphony a personal cache and unexpected notes. And it works! Because this heavyweight Who's Who is astronomical. Just imagine what you could find going through 200 chapters in 3 volumes! And the biographical notes! Almost 30,000 entries. The Who's Who is well crafted and divided into several parts, such as, biographies, data and facts, charts and analyses, and resources. In brief, it embraces all facets and aspects of the world of music and those who make music. Most impressive it is. Authoritative? Affirmative. Useful? No questions asked, simply because it is the world's first who's who of music, singers, performers and the business of music. A large chapter in the World Who's Who in Jazz, Cabaret, Music and Entertainment was devoted to individuals and groups who made significant contributions to Jazz, Cabaret and music in America. Although, Dr. de Lafayette, the author of this encyclopedic book is known and highly respected for his authoritative knowledge of the industry and unbiased reporting, in this Who's Who, however, he succumbs to his emotions. Any negative report or yellow journalism? Certainly not, because de Lafayette does not believe "in badmouthing people. Those artists have to make a living. Don't cut off their chances. Everybody has to eat. If they are talented, promote them...if they are not so good, give them another chance...I don't advocate bad reviews. Just do not write about them..." said Mr de Lafayette whose column is read by more than 10 million readers worldwide. It appears that everybody who is somebody in the entertainment business is in this book. The World Who's Who in Jazz, Cabaret, Music and Entertainment will be made available to the general public in late January or early February of 2007. Highly recommended. Five stars. -By David Nye, International Herald Daily News, Paris, London. Staff writer.

World Who's Who in Jazz, Cabaret, Music and Entertainment, is a masterpiece, said Gisele von Guntunbergersen, editor-in-chief of World Art Celebrities Journal. She wrote: A new world who's who of entertainment, songs, singers and stage magic is on its way to world human stage and real life. It contains all the glitters, the stories, data, statistics and lists of lists of all those who left their mark on the world of music and showbiz; from progressive fusion rock, jazz and the year's big buzz list to national music awards, and from San Remo Song Festival awards, airplay world official top 100 and sparkling divas to the ultimate entertainers, singers and songwriters. An unbelievable gigantic accomplishment by a world authority in the field, the prolific writer, author and producer, Maximillien de Lafayette. It is overwhelming. It is Homeric in the abundance of information it offers, the descriptive categories of live performances, styles, schools and music genres and rich biographic chronicles of singers, composers, musicians, writers, producers and giants of the industry it illustrates and the in-depth research of the fabric and divergent world of stars and showbiz.Physicians, writers, humanitarians and stamp collectors have their Who's Who. Musicians, singers and divas don't. It is hard to believe. Finally, somebody with an alert mind decided to do something about it. And what a brilliant idea it was. And what a service the author of the World Who's Who in Jazz, Cabaret, Music and Entertainment is rendering to the world community of music and performing arts. Now, divas, entertainers, music and showbiz executives, booking agents, music publishers, venues' proprietors, publicists, critics and the public will have access to and learn what they should learn about all those who entertained us for decades, entered our living rooms, dazzled us on stage and made us fall in love with icons, legends and stars. It is expected to find in this Who's Who the biography and career highlights of famous stars, artists, composers, songwriters, comedians. Otherwise, the book will not be considered comprehensive and complete. After all, who's who and directories should include those who are known in the field. It is the rule of thumb. Does de Lafayette's Who's Who follow this path? Affirmative. The author walked 10 more miles to include all those who made significant contributions to the world of music and entertainment, regardless of their visibility, name recognition and status.

"Recognizing others' talents is the primordial duty of an honest historian and a well-informed critic. Household names or obscure but gifted artists have the same rights and are entitled to be recognized by the public. To do so, a responsible writer should not exclusively and constantly write about the rich and the famous. I have a strong medium here to offer those magnificent and unknown talents a maximum exposure. I did. I had to do it. So expect to hear and read about fabulous singers and musicians who were deprived from opportunities to be written up in newspapers and magazines..." said Mr. de Lafayette, author of the Who's Who. Buy this book. You will treasure it for years to come. Reprinted from World Art Celebrities Journal

Basically what this book is about is creating an advertising solution to fit your web business' needs. Not only does it give you the pro's and con's of different web-based techniques, but gives some nice examples. The book is easy reading with a lot of graphics to reinforce the text and is nicely laid out. I came up a solution for my site in less than a half hour. At the reduce price offered by Amazon, this book was well worth the buy.

Web Marketing And Online Advertising - New And Improved
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2004-09-02
Online advertising has become an important part of any company's overall marketing strategy. Only a few years ago the main form of online advertising was the static banner ad. The author, Richard Adams, explains why this old form of web advertising failed and how it has evolved into the interactive, cross platform and multi-media rich marketing that we see on the web today.

He begins by examining what was wrong with the old style banner ads and why these intrusive ads resulted in banner blindness. Then he discusses how online advertising has improved and the various types of web advertising available today such as multi-media banner designs, HTML email and micro sites.

Taking a closer look at today's online advertising, he explains all of the new design features including animation, sound, DHTML, Flash, interactive games and video which are designed to grab the viewers attention and compel them to click thru to the website. Then he covers the various software and programming needed to create these multi-media ads. He examines the creation process and the design decisions necessary for a successful advertisement. As with everything on the web, there must be a balance between an advertisement that says WOW and the constraints characteristic to the web such as development costs, bandwidth and other technical limitations of the media.

The author also discusses the importance of creating online advertisements that reach the correct audience. He explains the various aspects of target marketing such as market research, affiliate programs, smart ads and branded content.

Adams has compiled a showcase of the best advertisements on the web which demonstrate the ideas presented throughout the book.

Richard Adams is an educator, speaker, researcher and advertising consultant specializing in interactive media. He lives in Weybridge, Surrey, England.
