A must-haveReview Date: 2004-07-15
The CD is windows-only so as Mac guy I've not had the chance to use it. I'd be surprised if it was a significant improvement over the on-line map services, but perhaps it is.
The fold-out map (not sure if this is in the newer editions, I have mine from my 1990 and 1996 Thomas Guides in my car) is really nice if only because it more clearly delineates the city boundaries than the overview maps in the book do.

Thomas Brothers Maps : Los AngelesReview Date: 2003-10-17
Whenever going to an unfamiliar address, I figure out how to get there first with the Thomas Guide (which I keep in my car). I always recommend to new residents in the city that they purchase a guide to help them find their way - because L.A. County is BIG ! Thomas Brothers Maps are also out on cd-rom. See www.thomasmap.com for more of their maps.
If used in conjunction with Mapquest.com to get directions, you will surely find your way in L.A.

Wine behind the label 2007Review Date: 2007-03-16
A Fine Wine GuideReview Date: 2007-03-08
There's a vintage guide by region, along with summary recommendations for each region. A very good index will get you to a writeup of most of the winemakers in the world. This writeup provides the nuances of most of the wines that each winemaker produces. You also get valuable information on the relationship between vineyards and winemakers.
I highly recommend this book as a tool to vastly improve your knowledge of wine.
The 2008 edition has been released.Review Date: 2008-04-04
As Jancis Robinson writes, this is a useful wine book, but the marketing is a little weak: "It is a terrifically useful compendium of succinct, informed and impartial profiles of producers all over the world with star ratings of (undated) individual wines. Williamson and Moore, who cut their teeth compiling Oz Clarke's Wine Guide CD Rom, have been publishing this guide themselves since 2001 - all based on their own travels and dedicated tasting programme. Their entire lives are currently dedicated to this noble enterprise - or rather to assembling it rather than promoting it (a phenomenon familiar to this website proprietor). This and the fact that they are modest chaps is perhaps why the book has so far been slightly under-publicised - by me anyway. If Williamson and Moore were loudmouths rather than open mouths the book might have sold more copies, although it might not have been so good. Its strengths are France, Italy, Germany, California, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa - not a bad list!"
If you can't find the book through Amazon, Google on ISBN 0955298539 to find another vendor. It's worth the effort for anyone seriously interested in wine.
PS: An online friend issued one caution on this fine book: "It also has the largest number of typos I've ever found in any book (dozen upon dozen) - in one entry in Provence (for La Badiane) it suggests that this domaine's vineyards appear on the cover whereas the 6th edition actually portrays Sant'Antimo in Tuscany, and even the odd wine region is spelt incorrectly. However, the guide is so good that even these rectifiable annoyances do not detract from its value."
