Now in an updated and expanded second edition, Moustafa Gadalla's Pyramid Handbook is a unique, informative, and iconoclastic contribution to Egyptology with its focus on the pyramids of antiquity. Featured are the locations and dimensions of the interiors and exteriors of the pyramids; varied theories on the construction, purpose, and function of the pyramids; the sacred geometry that was incorporated into the design of the pyramids; and a great deal more. Pyramid Handbook is fresh, original, thorough, scholarly, completely accessible to the non-specialist general reader, and enhanced with useful illustrations of the sites and interiors of the Egyptian masonry pyramids. If you have an interest in Egyptology, the Pyramids, and iconoclastic archaeological studies, read Moustafa Gadalla's Pyramid Handbook.

From having traveled to Egypt myself, I can tell you that this is one of the best books on the pyramids I've ever read. If only I had this when I was there, I could have been so much more fullfilled. I was especially interested in the writtings on sacred geometry. I can't wait for for the next time I get a chance to go to Egypt and visit the pyramids armed with Gadalla's book. This is a must own for anyone traveling to Egypt or has ever wanted to know the truth about antient Egypt and the pyramids.

This book contains a complete synopsis about the pyramids. Finally, there is a book that gives all the information about the pyramids, their locations, dimensions, profiles, why they were built, and how. The sacred geometry of the pyramids and pyramid power are very interesting. Well researched, and well written.

The most complete reference on ATM QoS theory I've seen.

Reference notation is excellent - Giroux and Ganti do a great job of documenting their sources, which was extremely helpful in cross referencing. If this book doesn't answer your question, it'll point you in the right direction.

Pretty technical reading, but that's what I was looking for when I bought it.

This is a must for technical reference in ATM. To understand ATM, I started by reading this book. Then, I read the ATM traffic management specification in ATM Forum and quite a number of ATM-related papers. However, I still find the book very useful from time to time. It gives summary of different techniques presented in different papers (eg. schedulling mechanism in Chapter 5), and also overview of different parts of traffic management (at the start of each chapter). For beginners, some sections will be quite difficult, because it did get into the details. You just skip it, I think the rest still able to help you understand the traffic management of ATM. I really love this book. :)

The first of four is an intriguing tale about Armajeet, a woman living with a man whose hobbies entrap her into a life he finds ideal, while she craves something more exiting and wild.
Next we have a humorous encounter with Megan, her mother and her grandmother. Megan and her grandmother definitely have conflicting ideas. Grandmother says exactly what's on her mind. It's very nicely written and anyone with a granny will appreciate it.
Mirror is an excitingly strange story of young salesman Carl who has no clue to the trouble awaiting him in the home of no ordinary customer. This "little old lady",he believes may be his first sale has other ideas.
Lastly there's Dawn who'd like to see a thinner version of herself in the mirror. Readers will be delighted to realize how self-acceptance can change their whole life.
A great five star writing.
Highly recommended !

Like most people, the characters in "Quiet Lives" seem normal...on the surface. And their lives do seem quiet and ordinary. But nothing is as it seems.

Underneath lie secrets and mysteries and unexpected charms.

Somewhat "tongue-in-cheek", the author slowly reveals the many layers that comprise each person. And then she throws in something startling, yet fascinating. In the beginning, you don't see it coming, but then, there it is. That special quirk that belies the ordinary and quiet surface.

An enjoyable and compelling read!

We are often told that "still waters run deep", the same holds true for the people and neighbours we see everyday; they may not be as they appear.

The poem and four short stories in this collection entitled Quiet Lives may have you giving your neighbours and that quiet passenger sitting next to you on the bus a second look.

Appearances can be deceiving is a good adage to keep in mind when reading about a goodbye letter, generational differences, door-to-door salesmen, and an elderly aunt; stories of everyday people who aren't nearly as "average" as they may seem.

A fabulous read!!

Radical Change is the product of insight and intuition about today's young adults and their involvement with literature. It presents a new way of looking at literature and understanding books that differ sharply from traditional expectations. Eliza T. Dresang clearly spent a lot of time and hard work to make this document as informative as possible. One of the main ideas of the book, I believe, is that it is possible to teach about (and learn about) literature without utilizing customs. Not only does Dresang approach many aspects of literature, but she also takes a look at the Internet and technology. As stated in the pre-publication comments, "This book is a comprehensive guide to the finest technology-related literature for youth- for anyone who is involved with the new digital era."

I've purchased two Amazon shorts today, one by Lee Goldberg, and the other by his uncle, Burl Barer. As both shorts are wickedly clever, and share certain "attitude similarities," I must credit DNA, in addition to creativity for their mutual success. "Remaindered" is a writer's nightmare and a reader's delight - and if Stephen King will forgive the pun, "Misery" loves company. In this short, a suddenly downsized best selling writer meets a true book lover at the Spokane K-Mart. The story is perfect for an episode of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," except they don't make that show anymore. Perhaps Hitchcock being dead is a contributing factor. Spend the 49 cents to buy this Amazon short -- it is excellent!

...because I'm actually very excited about all of Lee's writing, folks! So sue me!

It just so happened that tonight I was on the prowl for a little pick me up...Lee Gee's story came at no better time.

Shagalicious little read about a man who had to go and see a horse -- w-w-wait...no, that's not it: it's rather about this dude named Kevin, who's a crime writer of certain former renown, who's at K-Mart doing a book signing for a fifth edition print of one of his former bestselling novels. Then, there's this girl wearing a tight top, who leans just a wee too close to our man Kevin for comfort, setting off a whole string of nasty little events, and then, and then, and then...

Look, bub, you didn't come here for an explanation (that's readily available from the Amazon cover sheet for REMAINDERED), you came for a review, didn'tcha? So that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to review.

Goldberg is another one of those Amazon writers who are so good at what they do, it hurt my grey matter (if that were even possible). I'm guessing part of the major reason why Lee Goldberg doesn't continuously feature atop of the NYT bestseller list is because he's not an inheritor of the Windsors fortune and doesn't have either the last names Gates, Murdock, Black, Onassis, or Hearst. Needless to say, he probably also hasn't gone down for the count whispering those fabled immortal words..."rosebud..."

No, seriously...Lee Goldberg is a funny man.

He's the equivalent of a "Dean Martin" to your proverbial "Frankie Sinatra." Read him, you'll see. Lee's a right card, a groovy man about town. He knows how to string a few words together, and there are clear signs within the confines of these friendly 21 pages that he knows a thing or two about phonics. Hooked on it, actually.

Writers and editors are always on about this elusive thing called "rhythm."

Well this story's got it!

Prepare for a veritable concerto of sound when your eyes scan over this bad boy, and for those of us who are aurally-challenged, you'd do best to cover your ears.

Dialogues were nicely spread over this Short, and Goldberg doesn't skimp like they do at some European breakfast places. Like a tall stack of pancakes from IHOP, Goldberg is generous with his prose, but not overassuming.

This is a fun read, folks, the sort of thing you can finish off on the morning commute into the office on the subway reading it on your little player as you sip a cup of much-too-expensive flavoured coffee from that company with the mermaid on the logo and chow down on a schmaltz-inducing carbo-snack.

REMAINDERED's tighter than a German Atlantic-bound ship's hull -- or a German schoolmarm's steely countenance, for that matter -- and when I'm reading fiction, that's the way things have got to be. German examples abound tonight, I know, but it's a take no prisoners approach to fiction-writing, and my man Goldy's got it in motherlode-size.

Look, I'm talking too much. Get your hands on this diamond-in-the-making already, will ya?

Don't be some cheapsake and buy some trashy pop-lit when you can snag a leviathan of a tale right here in REMAINDERED for less than the cost of a phone call to your parents in Topeka.

Goldberg's got the angles covered, baby, just like his protagonist Kevin does.

But you won't know it if you don't read it for yourself first.

I was glad to actually come across a book that was catered towards people who had a bit of experience with making beats. Most of these sorts of books are always for people who want to start from scratch. It's not like it's a book for experts and beginners can't pick this up, infact it could be useful to most. People with a lot of experience could find something in there worth the buy, and people who are relatively new to the world of remixing, (but really it caters to beat making in general) or have some experience under their belt, should be able to find a whole lot of useful information.

As cheesy as the title might be, this book is quality.

Back in 1999, I started playing with loop sequencing and over the years have assembled a few dozen tracks. I most recently started getting hardware to support my music endeavours, and I stumbled across this book in a bookstore. When I flipped through it, I knew this would be the one as it covered all of the aspects of remixing and editing. Going in depth, arguably its best chapters are on sound design and mixing. I have discovered a new language, and now I can go back to all of my computer music magazines and actually understand what they are talking about. Knowing how to visualize what you are doing to sound made all the difference for me and now I can program my own synths.

The other aspect I really liked about this book was that the tips from real musicians were particularly englightening. Seeing how deep these other musicians go to get their sound inspired me to become more flexible in my approach to writing music.

Definitely a great buy.

I really enjoyed reading Fracis Preve's "The Remixer's Bible". He keeps it light and fun while still giving you a ton of tricks and insight into remixing and sound design. I would recommend this book for beginners to experts. I also really like the history lessons around certain sounds and the gear that was used to make it. I also like the format of the book as its broken up into lots of smaller sections that you can read and then try out.

Review Date: 2006-04-05
Best-selling author Bruce Henderson's "The Dieter Dengler Story" brings to vivid life a little known heroic chapter of the Vietnam War. In 1966, Henderson was a fleet weatherman aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ranger off the coast of North Vietnam, and he witnessed firsthand the return against all odds of his shipmate, Navy pilot Ltjg. Dieter Dengler, from a POW camp. Six months earlier, Dengler's Skyraider attack aircraft was downed by enemy fire inside Laos, and he was taken prisoner. Henderson charts Dengler's harrowing journey through the jungle. The intense narrative allows us to experience Dengler's attempt to evade the enemy, his encounters with sadistic guards, incredible escape, and month-long trek through the jungle before his eventual rescue. During the course of the story, we come to understand that Dengler's unique survival instincts had been honed as a child in Germany during World War II. "The Dieter Dengler Story" is a thoroughly exciting and moving tale of heroism and the will to survive. This story will be the basis for an action-packed movie, "Rescue Dawn," later this year, starring Christian Bale ("Batman Begins") as Dengler.

Though just a quick tale of a full life, this story gives one inspiration to never give up. One gets teary-eyed as they imagine the struggle a poor, German boy had in pursuing his dream to become a pilot. I believe his tough childhood gave him the grit he needed to get through the hard times as an adult. Great human story!

Dieter Dengler, true American Hero
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2007-08-01
This is the story of a German immigrant to the United States who became a true American hero during the Vietnam War. Even as a child living through the horrors of World War II, Dieter Dengler vowed to himself that one day he would become a pilot. To young Dieter, a pilot--any pilot--was the embodiment of freedom, power, and glory. And it was this image that brought him from Nazi Germany to the United States.

But becoming a pilot was not a dream for young Dieter. It was a goal that he would pursue with a single-mindedness that would later save his life. Overcoming all sorts of adversities, Dieter managed to learn English, earn a college degree, and enter an aeronautical training program that ultimately brought him to his long-cherished goal. He was now the pilot of a Douglas A-1 Skyraider assigned to the USS Ranger off the coast of Vietnam. The year was 1966 and the Vietnam War was about to enter a new and even more dangerous phase.

Instead of freedom, power, and glory, Dieter Dengler suddenly found himself totally alone in the jungles of Laos, surrounded by an enemy who was determined to kill all Americans. His Skyraider was a smoldering wreck, his locator beacon was smashed, and none of his fellow Americans back on the USS Ranger even knew he was alive. With little in the way of survival gear other than his own determination, Dieter and several other POWs managed to escape from a prison camp whose guiding principles were brutality and starvation.

The story of that escape--along with the incredible hardships that Dieter endured during his capture, escape and ultimate rescue--have now been turned into a motion picture that is both inspiring and thrilling. By all means, see the movie. But read this story first! And then read Dieter Dengler's own account in his book, ESCAPE FROM LAOS, which was published in 1978. Dieter Dengler was a true American Hero.

I truly enjoy reading children's stories ... and writing them too. I read a lot of them and was pleasantly surprised by this author's fresh voice and the entertaining, exciting storyline. He has a great sense of humor and adventure; the lyrical quality of his style is perfect for kids from toddlers to about age eight.

I've read everything from THE MONSTER WHO ATE MY PEAS to THE BOY UNDER THE BED to all of Shel Silverstein's works and this is on a par with them and other mainstream books I've read.

This author described the charming, captivating characters so vividly I easily pictured them as I read along. With a good artist to do illustrations, GINGERBREAD MAN could make a charming picture book ... a classic in the making.

I predict a bright future for Joe Ekaitis. I kid you not!!!

Joe Ekaitis scores a huge goal with his sweet (and sometimes not-so-sweet), captivating children's story, Revenge Of The Gingerbread Man. Joe writes beautifully with good attention to detail and this makes his characters, both human and animal, come alive in this short story. I think children will enjoy this story being read to them by parents and other grownups; and not even the parents and grownups will mind revisiting this story over and over again.

Revenge Of The Gingerbread Man has characters that come alive and pop out at you as they evoke all sorts of emotions, positive and negative. Every word Joe writes is carefully chosen to create just the right effect for his readers. This story, therefore, should be one of the more popular ones in this Amazon short category for quite some while to come.

My only cautionary note is that some very young or sensitive children might be a bit frightened by one or two of the images in this short story; but otherwise Revenge Of The Gingerbread Man is bound to be a favorite. I myself enjoyed it thoroughly.

If you like stories for your children with creativity, energy and wonderful attention to detail, pick this one by Joe Ekaitis. I predict that your children are going to like this one very much.

The ending in this short was a heart warmer of the first water. During and after the last scene happy groans and audible cozy sighs came automatically from my internal workings. Of course I was also delighted that the whole story rushed gleefully and entertainingly, almost stumbling-ly toward the perfect point of the story's concluding scene. All along the way, many speedy word arrangements and plot tumbles provided out-loud, welcome chuckles.

"REVENGE OF THE GINGERBREAD MAN" is a winner. I see why it has remained so consistently high on the Amazon Shorts list. Given my antique, creaking brain patterns and preferences, usually I'm put off by anything which says it's aimed toward young readers. In this case, I feel like the creaks got oiled and I'll read it again, like I would listen to a particular piece of music which I can count on to cause a needed effect in my mood moments.

Speaking of which, Ekaitis has actually achieved a real rhythm in the syntax of this Short, which carries the reader like a happily-skipping child moving along with the feisty characters. Here's one of my favorite funny passages, using words which stick in the mind:

>> "... oh fer the love of omelets! Would you LOOK at this MESS!" said the Gingerbread Man, lifting his foot from the rubble. It dripped with a goo of wood, straw, eggshells and raw egg. <<

But, none of the naturally exquisite storytelling skill would matter as much without the happy-sigh ending. That would be my kind of world. Please let it be.

Bursting into an old Beatle's song, I'll sing, "Let it be, let it be, let it be'ee, let it be .... speaking words of wisdom ... let it be, let it be." I don't know that this song has the same theme as this Amazon Short, but that refrain fits how I'd like the world to be.

I like how you think and write, Joe Ekaitis... Here's how I think and write, in ways amazingly similar to your "Revenge," in the bottom lines of food fantasy & reality, Coal & Coca-cola

Very few stories can provide the creeps during daylight hours, but Mr. Dansky's THE ROAD BEST NOT TAKEN does so, in spades! Dansky has a wonderful gift of evoking mood, place and atmosphere and this story excels in putting you amidst the swampy jungles of North Carolina's hinterlands with creatures that exist only in your most private nightmares.

It isn't so much the creature in this story that is frightening, but the universal situation of being stranded alone in a place that is both terrifying and eternal, with no hope of escape.

This is definitely a story to read in the darkest and deepest depths of night...but only if you're the kind of person who enjoys the feel of willowy fingers brushing against the back of your neck and the sound of your own heart picking up speed.
