I am an interior design instructor, and this is a great resource for building shells and different scenarios for students to space plan. If you are a student, it's a great way to hone your skills. I strongly suggest adding it to your collection.

This is a very impressive book. I got it as a gift and didn't expect to be so "wowed" by something that was written primarily as a text. In fact, it would probably be extremely useful in the classroom or for anyone interested in the profession of interior design. But I'm 100 percent a lay reader in this field, and I found the book accessible, fascinating, and enjoyable to read - as would, I think, anyone interested in design either as an idea or for personal practical use. The whole history of how people designed the spaces in which they lived or performed other activities, starting with very early history and including non-Western cultures, was quite an eye opener to me. The book is packed with theoretical and practical information, and I loved the hundreds of great color photos and illustrations. The glossary and bibliography are really helpful, too. Now I have some real help and inspiration for fixing up my house!

in this disturbing novel philip graham covers many aspects of people. there are eight stories: another planet, angel, interior design, beauty marks, the pose, the reverse, geology, and lucky "another planet" is about a family trying to cope with their father's failing shoe buisness "angel" is about an orphaned boy and his obsession with his angel with whom he attempts to describe his entire life to "interior design" is about an extremely creative woman who becomes increasingly fed up with her none-to creative lover and her attempt at getting him to express his feelings "beauty marks" tells about the secrets of a village a young american couple goes to live in to experience the native's life. they discover a secret that is known only by the villagers. this story is my favorite "the pose" is about a woman and man seperatly trying to recreate a pose the women was in in a picture taken when they had a better relationship "the reverse" is about an aspiring actress who gets hired for a commercial where she plays a character that is exactly the opposite of her "geology" is a tragic story of a woman who falls deeply in love with a man, but later discovers she was really in love with the ideas his job in geology presented to her "lucky" is about a man that sells old-fashioned clothes to his customers, who are all dying this book is very tragic and disturbing, but presents views on life that you probably never thought of!

All the design elements without the fabric patterns to distract you. Bedcovers, canopys and more curtain ideas than you can imagine for windows of every type. This book was just what the doctor ordered! Simple, clean and elegant sketches that can be copied and colored in with your own choice of fabrics and colors. Perfect for the home sewer or someone who needs fresh ideas for a room design. Every one who has seen my copy wants one for their sewing library.

As a decorator for one of the well respected prop houses in the Los Angeles area, as well as a student of interior design, I found this book extremely helpful in giving me the direction I needed to finish a project that had me stumped. The book is graphic intensive (which I like)with just a few words written about each photo. I shall use this book without fail for many years to come. Now if I can only find the volume covering the 50's and also the 70's.

I bought this book as a supplement to the textbook being used in our classroom (Fabrics for Interiors). The primary text is loaded with full-color pictures but does not really explain the details of fabric choice and application the way Nielsen does in Interior Textiles. A full third of Nielson's book is dedicated to historical styles and how fabric contributed to them, which is not covered in our primary text at all. In addition, Wiley's web site has an area dedicated to additional companion resources. While it does not appear to be fully populated yet, I look forward to using the book and the site constantly through the remainder of my education and going forward into my career in interior design.

An inspiring collection of architectural photographs - fabulous gardens and, indeed, 'interiorscapes', the author Paul Cooper is to be commended.
Whether it's destined to be a glamorous coffee table book, or a very much used and drawn upon library acquisition, this book will satisfy, amaze & delight.
Enough of the hyperbole, eh?
Containing detailed architectural drawings of some 6 sections, covering in detail over 100 properties, some complete with draft plans.
Some are impossibly lovely, all are inspiring - even for the humble home garden enthusiast there are plenty of ideas and tips to pick up on.
For anyone planning to build or renovate a home, this book should be pored over - you may find you cannot do without a central courtyard, complete with lush orange blossom trees, or a lotus pond.
There are innovated multi-storey gardens, a whole chapter on them, 'Inner Sanctuaries' courtyard & other variations, as well as 'Living architecture' which includes some detail on the amazing pyrimad like Acros Building in Fukuoka, Japan.
'Off the Wall' is a chapter covering a vast array of inspired and adventurous combinations, from art installations to The HUNDERTWASSER HOUSE, of Vienna a building which "returned to nature a small corner of an otherwise plantless city enviroment".
There is also 'Enclosed Gardeen Rooms' and 'Gardens under Glass'. Oh the abundance, the verdant rooms the lush foliage!
Text is easy to follow and fascination, whilst incredibly detailed & well reasoned, with researched & carefully formulated angles & opinions.
A must for any enthusiast!

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. There are commentaries on design at the introduction, which I found informative and interesting. Also, the quality of work that is displayed is absolutely amazing. There is verything from furniture to lighting, to the most innovative products of our time. The editors did a fantastic job on the page layout, truly a mastery of graphic design as well. Another great series of books along these lines is the Graphis yearbooks. I love the book, and I can't stop looking at it!
