Interior Design Books

I truly enjoyed Gifts From Nature and all of the wonderful projects and ideas for each season. I love the simplicity of ideas and that Matthew Mead focuses on using things that are available in nature- right in our own backyard. If you like Martha Stewart, you'll love this book by Matthew Mead- no hard to find supplies or expensive materials- it's filled with what is easy to find for all of us- no matter where you live or how much money you have. I'll be giving Gifts From Nature to all of my friends this holidy season- why? Because it is so affordable, so doable and such a joy to read and re-read. Give yourself the Gift of Nature- and you'll be suprised at what a fresh outlook you'll have on the world around you.

I just saw this book at Barnes & Nobles & I'm going to buy it. The glass houses are very cool -- extremely modern (and also mid century modern). I looooove the photos !!

Petersen is a beautifully illustrated, superbly organized, and articulately presented instruction manual that will provide non-specialist general readers with a sound grounding in design basics when it comes to utilizing and maximizing windows to provide the element of light to increase the attractiveness of individual rooms. An invaluable compendium of practical advice, tips, tricks and techniques, "Glass House covers everything from using bay windows to open up small kitchens; to using a cast glass banister insert as an element of sophistication for an otherwise ordinary architectural feature; to pairing door panes with transoms to brighten confined entry halls; to the use of skylights over kitchen work areas for added illumination; to utilizing glass blocks for shower enclosures; to choosing French doors for their architectural design flare; and so much more. Of special note are the illustrated sections covering art glasswork techniques ranging from sandblasting, to fusing, to beveling. Pat McMillan has done a great job of showing in her book -- probably in unprecedented manner -- different applications of the great variety of glass tiles currently on the market. Inspirational, indeed!

A wonderful book that stimulates the senses. Stretches the imagination to find the design elements and color in our natural surroundings and commonplace objects. Provides instructions, materials needed and graphs for many needlework pieces. Excellent photos showing the practical use of the various finished needlepoint projects. This is a delightful and informative book that even non-stitchers would enjoy. Needlepointers will revel in it

This book had so many great ideas and new ways to think about arranging and ordering your home. I really liked the way he wrote about sleeping, bathing, working, cooking, dining, and playing areas and not bedrooms, bathrooms, etc. I read this while out of town and came home and rearranged my living room. I can't stop looking at the space in my house in quite different ways. I want to move everything around based on the ideas I got from this book. It is actually a fun read too.

This may not be the top-selling item at Amazon, but it's an excellent book, put out by Brill Publishing (Leiden), who make great scholarly books. There's a Gotisches Etym. Wörterbuch out there by somebody, but this is much easier to use and more helpful (plus it's in English, which is more convenient for most of us).

What really makes this nice is that, not only does it give Indogermanic cognates for the Gothic words, but it tells you which Greek words the Gothic ones are translations of (from Bishop Wulfila's Bible, who studied in Constantinople). Also, the book is sturdy and has a good feel to it.

Everyone that loves Architecture will admire this work. Know the past to make a better future.
