Interior Design Books

I really enjoyed this decorating book. So many times you see something in a decorating book you would like to duplicate in your own home , but instructions are not included. This book gives you building instructions along with great pictures, and ideas to brighten up your home.

This is the best scholarly book of its sort that I know about. I appreciate the challenge given to those discussing Biblical Studies methods and tools to place Biblical Archaeology at the level of importance it deserves and especially to do some serious hands on archaeological research in support of their presuppositions.

From a furniture viewpoint this book provided a thorough history of the style and showed many examples of this wonderful period to give me inspiration and understanding.

I don't know what the previous reviewers were critiquing-- what follows is about S Sangl's brilliant and unique book. It is safe to say that in every respect -- text, photos, and production values --- this unique volume fulfills its mission to present the tradition of German(ic) interior design at the highest level. Although the photos are true 'eye candy', this book is intended as serious discourse and rises far above the typical coffee table ballast.

For tract home transformations which turn an ordinary tract model into something special, the adventurous homeowner should consult Michelle Kodis' Blueprint Remodel: Tract Home Transformations That Turn Everyday To Extraordinary which is packed with color photos of both interior and exteriors. Blueprint Remodel includes remodel costs of each project, remodel observations and intentions, blueprints, and notes on special approaches which translated to savings.

Building a house on the water is quite different than building one on land - and over forty of the north country's best boathouses are revealed here, from 19th century wonders to those which are modern creations. Various architects and designers have produced some outstanding boathouses which are created to blend with their environments: this offers inspiration and insight for any designer whether working at the cottage level all the way up to full-sized Victorian representations. Both public libraries and collections strong in home architecture choices will find it a popular pick.

The main problem with a book such as this is that it can become outdated so quickly (if you have ever seen a used book from 20 or 30 years ago that was current and hip and modern to that time and horrible outdated now, you know what I mean). Sarah Lynch is concious of that potential problem and presents the material in such a fashion as to avoid being outdated, gives wonderful examples, explains colour principles, displays good photographs, and warns that there are rules for current fashion/interior decoration trends, but you can go ahead and break them if you want to, with guidance on what to watch for by the way of results. Also helpful is the last few chapters on how to correct mistakes if you don't like the results after all. If you have an inkling that you want to go bold but are hesitant, or looking for helpful direction, this is a good book.

This is a very useful study of the history of the book (defined rather broadly) in Japan. It is well written and makes interesting even topics that at first glance seem inherently dull--the chapter on bibliographies and catalogs, for example. Kornicki combines extensive old-fashioned archival scholarship with a good sense for recent theory on such topics as the death of the author, media technologies, and the shifting history of reading practices.

This book was easy to read with wonderful pictures that really helped you understand what the finished candle would look like. The author used simple easy to follow language and gave you a list of all the tools needed for each project. She also gave you wonderful ideas to follow or use as a jumping off point for your own creations. The tools she suggests are things every one has or can find fairly easy, so there is no need to go to a specialty store or search forever, you can find pretty much everything you need at a Micheal's or craft store near you. So for anyone looking to begin making candles or just looking for creative new ways to make them I highly recomend this book to everyone.

I really love recreating the idea's in this book. I have a wonderful "Welcome" plaque hanging on my front door that I (yes me!) made.
