Description needed!

First, an apology for using the review mechanism to ask a question, but ... no description, and no apparent way to email the author directly? Intriguing as the title sounds, it's hard to guess what the book is about! Turkish is clearly highly related to Japanese; besides being a similarly agglutinative language, there are too many compelling parallels to ignore (e.g., { sore-, kore-, ore- } <=> { bura-, sura-, ora- }; { -ka, -mi (please excuse the dot) }. Is this book an attempt to establish a linguistic connection to Turkish? or a way of applying Arabic linguistic methods to an "unrelated" language?

A comprehensive study in morphology
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2002-10-19
Akesson, J. (Lund U.) presents a comprehensive study of the Arabic morpho-phonology by making available a range of material from the 8th century A.D. until our days. For this purpose she uses as a point of departure an Arabic source, the "Marah al-arwah" from the 13th-14th century that she edits, translates and comments. She provides background information on works of morphology, discusses many intricates questions and linguistic theories and presents quotations, paradigms, qur'anical citations, verses of poetry, dialectal variants and Semitic words. She concludes with various indices including an important glossary for the commentary, that make the enormous body of information easily accessible.

The GREATEST How-To Book EVER!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-05-06
Sanford Hohauser's book on modelmaking is the greatest how-to book I've ever encountered in general, because he tells you exactly what you want and need to know. Most people try, but fail. This book has such a clear mission: to teach you how to build models, no exceptions. You can start out, as I did, having LITERALLY NO experience in modelbuilding. But Sanford Hohauser tells you what tools you should get for which types of projects, how to use them, what kinds of materials to use for what kinds of models, how to photograph the model, how long things should take, and much much more. Great B&W photographs throughout, drawings, diagrams, lists, index, reference compilations: The 200+ pages of this book tell you what you need to know, and no less.

Reviewed by Carolyn Howard-Johnson, award-winning author of This is the Place, Harkening: A Collection of Stories Remembered and The Frugal Book Promoter: How to do What Your Publisher Won't

In case you haven't noticed, everyone is remodeling. Or building.

"Architecture Fixtures and Hardware" is certainly a book for those who are transforming their lives but it is also for those of us who have decided to stay put. At a fraction of the cost of a big change, modifying the details in our homes can work wonders. "Fixtures and Hardware" gives us ideas for doors and windows, flooring, kitchens, bathrooms, storage and more.

A big book, not quite as big as what we've come to think of as a coffee table book, it is packed with pictures, inside and out, of lovely conversions to fit every taste. Wait until you see the spotless photography by Chris Everard! It's going to make you want to tear up your floors and install plywood (p. 42). Yes, plywood! It "displays a more exuberant grain than ordinary planks and can be cut into much wider boards" to show off the pattern. Now, I can't imagine a more beautiful, money-saving device than that. It's only the beginning for those who buy and browse this lovely book as only Ryland Peters & Small can design them.

Stunning Architectural Idea's and Photo's for the Custom Home
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-10-25
This book is an outstanding display of custom idea's for the entire home. The photo's bring to life 1000's of interior and exterior shots, that give you idea's from all over North America. Different styles, materials, concepts, roof lines, sidings and unique designs are fully explored throughout the book. If you want idea's while building a custom home, that are state of the art, and displayed with beautiful photographic pictures that you can build from, this is an excellent book to have. The text fully explains the use of materials and explain sections of the pictures that I would not generally have seen. I have only just received my copy of Architectural Inspirational and have received some excellent feedback from my friends and neighbours whom I have shared my recent purchase.

This is an excellent book. It provides a comprehensive overview while supplying specific design applications on the topics of natural and electric lighting. It illuminates many technologies and design principles with straight forward language and clear reinforcing graphics.
I teach architectural lighting at the School of Architecture at the University of Hawaii. I have reviewed many lighting books for this class and have found the Egan and Olgyay text to be very appropriate for the beginning and advanced student as well as a very useful desk reference for design proessionals.
