This is the most intuitive book I have ever read on the subject. Karl-Heinz takes the time to explain in detail how to create fabulous finishes for your walls and furniture. This book is a "must have" if you are interested in creating faux marbles and wood grains. I have read many books on the subject and "Fabulous Finishes" is one of the best on the market.

This book is made for anyone to understand. Through great pictures and words, it starts you off on the world of Feng Shui. The authors adhere to the modern branch of feng shui, which is great... how else can we know what to do with our computer and tv? great book! We painted out new business yellow inside to promote calm, and greens outside to promote growth. It's in the book.

Most authoritative book on Feng Shui ever!

Making your life better thru Feng Shui ...

Review Date: 2007-11-30
Over a decade ago I was in Las Vegas staying at the MGM Grand while they were doing major re-construction to change their entrance. The existing entrance was a Lion's head and Asians refused to enter the casino through the mouth of it perceiving that as bad luck. The casino was losing potential customers and had already started creating a new and separate entrance during my stay.

This got my attention. To go through all that trouble for something called Feng Shui. To spend millions of dollars just to change the entrance - well, there must be something there.

A friend gave me Linda Cahan's book as a present. I've been interested in Feng Shui since that time in Las Vegas and have now used it in conjunction with my stores and my home. Ms. Cahan did a bang up job delineating the info in a clear and decisive way. I also liked that she represents the opinions of many other Feng Shui experts so I feel I've gotten the best cross section of information possible.

I've played with some of the 'cures' mentioned in this book to correct problem feng shui I've identified, and have noticed perceptible improvements. The suggestions using mirrors have been very effective. That sold me! I'm a big fan of feng shui and an equally big fan of Ms. Cahans easy to use guide to making your life better through feng shui. I like her approach and recommend this book as an easy read with effective useful ideas for work or home.

Ever walk into a store and want to walk right out? Can't figure out what's wrong? Could be bad Feng Shui!

This eye-opening book shows retailers how to lure customers with an inviting atmosphere that makes them want to stay, shop, buy and enjoy the experience. Store owners are guided through a simple step-by-step process allowing them to transform a ho-hum store into a great feeling store.

I'm not alone in my praise of this insightful book. Martin Pegler, editor of Retail Design and Visual Presentation magazine recommends it "most heartily . . . Her advice is solid and on target for visual merchandisers and store designers since so much of what she offers is so logical and down-to-earth."

As a college student, I found Feng Shui with What You have an insightful book on how to make any living space harmonious without breaking the bank. The book contained many great tips on how to create a stylish yet comforting environment using what you already own. After using the remedies found in the book to properly feng shui my apartment, it transformed into a more welcoming space. The book combines ancient feng shui methods with contemporary trends. By making simple changes to the placement of my furniture and by adding touches of specific colors, my apartment and the mood of all those in the apartment changed for the better. I would recommend Feng Shui with What You Have to anyone looking to make an improvement to not only their living space but their life in general.

I have browsed other books about feng shui that have made the subject seem impossibly arcane as well as very impractical for a westerner. FENG SHUI WITH WHAT YOU HAVE is accessible and clear; it not only explains what feng shui is and how it works as a philosophy, but also how you can put it to practical work in your home. One of the beauties of the book is that it's full of advice whose implementation requires only your attention and some time--you can make many positive improvements without spending a cent. I keep going back to the book as I tackle one problem spot or another in my home. In the long term relationship between you and your space, this book is a keeper.

This little treasure will have you looking at cast off items with a more resouceful eye. Many of these items would not get a second glance but the author has found interesting ways to repurpose flea market or discarded items. The project on the front cover is an example of a creative way to use those small side boards once part of old dining room sets. I am a fan of stripes, so the small dressers done in wide stripes has great appeal as well as a playful side. The techniques suggested can be applied to a variety of objects not just the ones illustrated in the book. I can't wait to go out this week end and rescue some unloved objects and give them a new lease on life. Undoubtedly this book is a great find...one of the best for sparking new ideas for those low on cash but high on imagination.

Broad overview of what architecture really is.
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2003-05-11
Architecture is not about appearance but function. This excellent book examines the environment: wind, sun, water. It explores human's needs. It dwells into the tie between humans and the environment. The environment is both necesary for life, and can cause death. As such a home should act like a second skin: keeping out harmful agents, and allowing the necessary agents to come in. This book is not only an overview of architecture, but includes an interesting outlook on philosophy, art, architectural evolution, movement, and human pcychology. This book is informative, easy to understand and a fun read. It's good.

Handbook of Beauty, Simplicity, & Functionality

Review Date: 1999-07-18
M. Grillo jogs my perceptions of design--and life--out of tired ruts. This book is filled with wonderfully illuminating illustrations, many in surprising juxtapositions, like a farmhouse roof facing prevailing winds next to an inverted ship's hull, a shark beside a jet plane, a cloverleaf in Stockholm by a cut-away of the human heart. He SEES, and in his warm prose tells us what he sees and why it works.

He book not only explains elements of beautiful design but touches aspects of healthy thought. In his note to a young designer, he advises: "Do not be afraid: either of your ideas, no matter how wild---or of the ideas of others, no matter how disturbing. Fear is the motive power of all intolerance."

Beyond Feng Shui

Review Date: 2001-06-16
Gaiamancy goes way beyond traditional feng shui. In her refreshing approach, Ms. Belle expands upon other types of sacred space modalities, including the Celtic Wheel, and native american traditions, even though her background obviously began with the Chinese style. More than that, Ms. Belle goes beyond any of the "styles," of sacred space, to alert the reader to the fact that there's a much larger, grander, whole picture--that vision of our entire planet as a living being. Ms. Belle gives honor to the greater being of us all, and how we can each participate in our own small way, in contributing to the greater good for all.

This book was extremely helpful in creating balance in my home. I was overjoyed to learn that this book contained not only traditional Feng Shui BUT also Celtic and Medicine Wheel Overlays. I could pick and choose between the three wheels what aspects and solutions I wanted to bring into my home setting. My home is now a wonderful sanctuary of serenity!! I would highly recommend this multi-cultural Feng Shui book to others!!!
