This wonderful coffee table book won't be on the coffee table long! It is chock full of beautiful pictures with practical ideas. Although many of the rooms are decidely high-end, there are several ideas that can be applied to more moderate tastes.
I highly recommend that this book be added to any home design library.

If you enjoyed Spirit of African Design, then you will love this book. There are nice room pictures showing african art in primarily a contemporary design style.

It's a great coffee table book for anyone who loves both African Art styles and contemporary interior design.

Review Date: 2007-02-11
I got this book as a gift from my wishlist here at Amazon. I was thrilled with it, not only for the fact that it's a really nice book, pretty cover, very heavy pages & beautiful photography. I wanted it mainly for decorating purposes and I did get alot of unique decorating idea's from it, but it is much more than a decorating book.. 20 different homes, vacation retreats and wilderness camps are featured.. Each one displays a gorgeous getaway spot that has been created to blend in with it's surroundings while still offering the luxury and comfort of home. Many have optioned environmentally conscious methods and offer ideas for using recycled or repurposed materials in their construction. Most of the beautiful, comfortable, romantic, scenic getaways are created to co-habitate with nature without causing further harm to it..

This is a book on the cutting edge of home design. Many of the homes and getaways shown are designed for nature enthusiasts and with popular past times in mind, such as camping, hiking, bird watching & the beach. Many different styles are represented as well, from spare minamalism to the eccentric whimsy as illustrated in an adult treehouse paradise that looks rustic on the outside but is a luxurious showplace on the inside.

Really wonderful book. An absolute gem. I don't think the description here on amazon properly conveys how useful this book is for creating homes or getaways that are environmentally friendly. I highly recommend this it to anyone concerned with the environment, even if not in the market for building a new home, there are a lot of great ideas for conservation in remodeling and just everyday living. It's also just a beautifully crafted book and makes a great conversation piece as a coffee table book. I have had sitting out for months and many friends have enjoyed it, commenting on it's beauty & unique-ness.

A creative treasure trove of home interior design "do-ables"

I own stacks of decorating, interior design and painting technique books, but none come even close to the wit and personality of Judyth Van Amringe's inspired volume "Home Art". The moment I set eyes on the deliciously painted and tufted couch on the cover of her book, I was hooked. With an armload of practical tips, Van Amringe challenges you to look beyond the "tried and true" interior designs tips. From lampshades strewn with silky fabric roses to the handpainted "Barnacle Table", you will find nothing here but pure inpiration and delight. Admittedly, some of the projects may not be your cup 'o tea, but rest assured, once inside the pages of this book, you will be hard pressed not to throw it down in search of something to paint, glue or stitch. This is must-have book...beg, borrow or steal, this is one for your shelves!!

Imaginative, intelligently-written and a comfortable glide into the wackier extremes of home decor...what an inspiring book. I doubt that EVERY project will appeal to the reader, but ALL of them display a thinking-out-of-box quality that will help inspire the reader into making their own home into a very personal expression of fresh decor. Enjoy!

This book is chock full of wonderful photos of absolutely gorgeous rooms located in England (mostly), France, Majorca, St.Lucia, and Greece. Graceful, nonpretentious elegance at its finest! If you love aged patinas, threadbare Oriental rugs, mellowed heirloom antiques, vintage linens, and a dash of eclecticism, this is THE book for you!

A Gorgeous Book!

Like the other books in this House and Garden series, this is a wonderful reference for anyone interested in traditional, classic, elegant design. In my opinion, it should be in every interior designer's library! The interiors pictured are varied in their themes and beautifully composed. These are not cutsey, overdone rooms. They are timeless in their decor - informal and comfortable, but with style. I get new ideas each time I go to this book! The chapters are arranged by room type so that if I want to see kitchen design I can go right to that chapter rather than search through the entire book. Although, once opened, I rarely shut this book after looking at only one or two pages!

I purchased a copy of this book when it was first published, and it is dog-eared from use!! I have loaned it out numerous times to friends who have ALL raved about it, and I continue to use it as a reference as I update my boys rooms as they grow. I HIGHLY recommend it & can't say enough about it!!!

I have read and enjoyed Miss Logrippo's book titled In My World . I found the book of interest on several levels:

· Miss Logrippo demonstrates a through knowledge of the subject matter.

· She imparts not only decorating ideas but also the psychological and educational reasons for each decorating approach. As an Early childhood teacher it was fascinating to read how room decorating impacts a child's healthy mental and physical growth.

· The author believes children should co-design their rooms with parents to optimize the child's environment for their needs and enjoyment of their living space. If a child's opinions and needs are considered in the design of the child's room then the child will have a vested interest in helping to maintain his room. Many exciting ideas are given to update the look of older furnishings.

I would describe In My World as a "how to" book; but it doesn't read like one.

Miss Logrippo writes with humor and illustrates her directions with antidotes from her career and childhood experiences. I was drawn into the book by the author's writing style

Shane Reilly draws upon her many years of professional experience and expertise running an interior design company with offices in new York and San Francisco, helping a wide variety of clients in developing customized high-end designs for their homes and offices in writing "Inspired High-End Interior Design". Reilly also draws upon the contributions of 83 of the country's leading interior designers and examines the different sources of inspiration these designers call upon for their concepts and ideas. Reilly also addresses such diverse interior design issues as the use of art and collected objects, furniture and fabric, personality, concept, color and architecture in forming a concept for the look of a room. Profusely illustrated with more than 300 photographs of beautiful and beautifully diverse rooms and a strongly recommended addition to personal, professional, academic, and community library Interior Design Studies reference collections, "Inspired High-End Interior Design" emphasizes focusing on unique, high-quality pieces in a room design resulting in a work of liveable art that will have an enduring appeal for dedicated designers, homeowner esthetics, and anyone seeking to live and work in an hospitable, elegant, luxurious surrounding. Also very highly recommended are two other Interior Design titles from Schiffer Publishing: Decorator Show Houses: Tour 250 Designer Rooms and "Designer Showcase: Interior Design At Its Best.

I didn't find anything in here that I didn't already know. That said, sourcing interesting, contemporary / modern materials, fixtures and finishes is my job. I was just a little disappointed that it didn't feel like there were more revolutionary ideas (some of the "green" or eco-friendly materials out there are gorgeous and ground-breaking - it's a great time to be a designer.) The book is a good source of ideas for those who are interested in the field and don't have the time or inclination to do the research themselves.

This book is also well laid out and well written. Highly recommended for people who are interested in Balinese and tropical architecture and design.

I've long been interested in the Japanese approach to design of all sorts, but especially architecture. Coming from a much different tradition, the solutions to problems and needs for shelter are often very different than those arrived at by architects with Euro-American tastes and training. Some of the examples depicted so beautifully and discussed so shrewdly in this volume are rooted strongly in Japan's history, such as an old farmhouse relocated to Tokyo and fitted into an urban neighborhood. Others are playful, like the house with a lawn on the peaked roof, watered by a sprinkler system on the ridgepole, and with the courtyard floored in clay roof tiles. There's a two-story "miniature" house with a footprint not much larger than two parking spaces, but which still manages to be a very comfortable environment for actually living in. And, naturally, there are structures *so* experimental, you might not realize they were houses if you weren't told. There are homes in this collection I would love to live in, and others that would probably give me nightmares, but all of them are fascinating.
