This is a beautiful book, wonderful photography and architecturally very interesting. It is also very heavy, large, and it only shows buildings. I have no room or need for it on my interior design shelves.

Ms. Lady Henrietta's books are always great. There are many interior designers who write books to put on the market.....but I haven't yet seen anyone who consistently puts out wonderful books like she does. They are the best!! I am a sold sucker on her books. I feared that since she has so many decorating books out there, that they would do nothing but repeat themselves. But was I ever wrong?!! Always comprehensive, detailed, yet never over the top. Her books are always easy to understand. The royal lineage of her family surely puts her in a super huge advantage in that she is always around the beauty in the country homes of England's countryside of Oxfordshire and surrounding areas. I am planning to get each and every book she has written to include in my design library. They are great inspirators.
You will never go wrong with her books. :-)

A wonderful reference guide to fabrics AND a top notch coffee table book! Even your guests who find nothing appealing about textiles will find this book just divine! Pour a glass of Merlot and relax with this wonderful "picture book". The text is excellent too if you are in the mood for details...

This is the perfect book for those who like some substance to their form. The writing is wonderful - I felt like I took a trip through time and through Thailand. The photos are beautiful as well because they aren't just the standard head-on shots, but interesting details and angles.

Having bought a large number of architectural books on Thailand, I can validate that this is the best so far. It is a well written book and definitely worth purchasing. I definitely recommend it for whoever has a passion for the decorative arts and for plain class Thai architecture. Definitely a gem.

I wish I had owned this book before my month long visit to Thailand three years ago. I received this book as a Christmas gift last year and really appreciated the insight it provides concerning the history, culture, and style of Thailand. Not only is it a gorgeous book with wonderful pictures but it also helped me to better understand Thai culture and style.

It really helped me to better appreciate my experiences in Thailand.

Great Resource for Color.

Review Date: 2006-03-06
While this book will primarily appeal to interior designers, it is a great resource for those interested in the play of color and color theory. Coverage of theory is extensive, including harmony and identity. Fully one third of this book is about theory.

The other two thirds of the book cover color three dimensional perception and application. For those who are decorating digital rooms, the application of color to the setting is the same as the real world, if the outcome is to replicate reality. How color interacts in the setting alone and with other colors is sometimes not readily thought of, but the impact of the tone, texture and color used creates the setting, more than the physical structure itself - note to those with small home offices in the basement.

Recommended as an introductory text for design and architecture or any class that deals with color, this book has a lot of photos of color at work, as well as illustrations on color maps and dialogue. Not a book to get your next project done by example, but rather shows you how to get to that end point.

A great resource for professional designers as well.

Color in Three- Dimensional Design by Jeanne Kopacz is a definitive and comprehensive book on color. There is no other reference book like it. Students to professionals, homeowners to artists, will find many usages for this book.

This book covers everything from Color Theory to three-dimensional perceptions to three dimensional applications. You will learn how artists, interior designers, and architects invoke emotions from the use of color. How the amount of color with texture and lighting can create different effects.

I highly recommend this book for novices and professionals...you can't go wrong with this purchase. I wish I had this book when I was in school. I would have saved time in research and experimentation.

Great professional resource.

Finally! I've been looking for a book like this for years.

As both an interior designer and architect, I'm concerned about how to use color for everything from bricks to wall coverings. The typical books I've found on color are either of the 'pretty picture' coffee table variety or are texts focusing on narrow aspects of the subject, such as the science of color or the environmental impact of color. "Color in Three-Dimensional Design" is the first book I've seen that puts it all together: history, theory, light, materials and impact. While there are numerous illustrations and photographs showing theory and real world examples, this is not a book that dictates color schemes. Rather, it is a book that gives both students and professionals the tools to use color effectively in a wide range of design projects.

Beyond its obvious use as a textbook for students of color, I'm sure that other design professionals will find it to be as invaluable a resource as I do.

Useful as well as pleasurable, a little dated now.

This book has many traditional rooms, but because it is not new, the "contemporary" rooms tend to look a little dated now. Funny how the old days look better than the recent past. What set it apart for me was the text, which discusses the history of color in decoration and is extremely interesting without being long, and the information on pigment reactions in making ones own paint. She includes several pages of different pigments mixed together in the back, as well as a discussion of different wall painting mediums. As a painter making my own lime wash, this book, while not a complete reference, gave a few invaluable details that made my project a success, and I really only bought it to see the photos of rooms in different colors.

The best book on Colour I've found

I own about 25 books on interior design and home decoration. This is certainly in my top three, and probably the most oft consulted of them all. Each chapter covers one of the basic colours, from green and blue through to pinks and neutrals. But after this sparse description it is hard to convey the beauty and depth of this book. When I say cover a colour, I mean really explore it. It's cool version, warm version, soft, light, borderline with its neighbouring colour on the colour wheel.

And the way that each colour is covered is unique. Very minimal (but useful) text, and instead full page pictures of utterly inspiring interiors featuring the colour tone/intensity on each and every page. It uses excellent photographs from a wide and rich range of interior design. All true to life from real (moderna and historical) homes - and usually illustrating a good marriage between a particular colour/shade and the style it most compliments. Going through it, one soon becomes aware of one's taste. The pictures are so good - so evocative of the theme of that particular colour - that one has a simple emotional response of things like "love", "comforting", "not me", "does nothing for me", "joyful", etc. Using this book and trusting my visceral response to the delightful, subtle shades on each page, I virtually decorated my whole house.

A very sophisticated book on colour, that speaks to us in the most simple of ways - through the eye to the heart.

This book is full of big jaw-dropping color photos of uniquely designed and lit homes, businesses, restaurants, museums, and other spaces. It's amazing to see what people dream up in shaping the ideal environment. If you're seeking a rich source of fresh design ideas for a planned space, or if you just like to dream, or even if you just know an architect or interior designer who needs a gift, this is the book for you.

If you hate color pictures, new ideas, or lavishly exotic personal design and lighting, this book is not for you.

I am an intermediate sewer (my projects include curtains, roman shades, pillows). I needed step by step instructions for creating professional looking, interlined, silk, pinch pleated drapes for my living room. I went to the library and checked out every book on the subject -- and this was far superior to the rest. I would highly recommend.

I used the book mostly to look at styles and fabrics, but for a sewer, this book has all the how-to you could want.

This is a wonderful book showing a wide range of kitchen styles from modern to country and blue and white to classical. It explains design secrets that help you create a beautiful, yet practical cooking space.

The book starts out with a short quiz that helps you determine your cooking lifestyle needs. It then discuses backsplashes, flooring, cabinets, storage and ventilation. In addition there are several cook's stories telling all about their history and about their dream kitchens.

I like the way the kitchens selected for the book combine aesthetics and ergonomics. The emphasis is on kitchens that work rather than on the latest technological gadgets. There are tons of ideas that can make any kitchen more functional.

There is a great resource list in the back, including website addresses, for finding accessories, appliance manufactures, lighting and hardware. Whether you are a professional chef or want to use your kitchen as a social gathering place, this book can be a great help to you.

This is a great book with tons of wonderful pictures. There are many antiques and vintage items in the pictures, (which I LOVE), and the ideas are very short and simple. A great book to just open, get some ideas easily, and be inspired. If you like collecting, or like Vintage style decor, this book would be a great addition to your collection.

I received this book as a gift from a friend that knew I love fabric and love color. I have spent hours (literally) thumbing through this book, enjoying the colors and enjoying the different decorating styles. My friends and I pulled it out at one of our Girls Only slumber parties (I'm 39) and spent 2 hours looking, and ooing and ahhing over it! I also got the nerve to paint my living room sage green, and I love it! Fun, fun, fun book!
