Furniture Books

This new book is very complimentary to their first book (Chinese Country Antiques) It gives much information, is very helpfull in studying the subject and makes you more eager to see new things of this culture. I use the books together.

Jessica's interest in representing the workings of the mind in vispo lead her to a section of mappings (Archipelago) that she likens in her preface to a riddle of literal topography rather than existing within the descriptive tradition of Apollinaire's calligrams. Where this appears to lead her in successive years is to a mapping of the brain through vispo, leading her closer to creating pictures of the universal thought-experiences of place, memory, love, nature and mutability. Though OFC doesn't often reference memory, perhaps the mental process most conducive to painterly manipulation, a Proust phase led thereafter to `butterflies,' a limited edition chapbook that needs to be reprinted, that creates a page-image of memory's flows and fragility.

The `exile' section of OFC was intended as a riff off John Cage's Roaratorio, which used mesostics of the name `James Joyce' along with fragments of Finnegan's Wake determined by chance operations to make a text free of intention. It's not hard to see how this approach would be an opening for her theory of Plastic Poetry, since Roaratorio not only theoretically handed the reins of interpretation completely over to the reader (or the listener), with the guarantee of no intervention from an author who says `this is what I really meant,' but is in practice a work that holds up to everyday listening and interpretative resonance that is both light and weighty in turns.

`exile' from which `Hades' is excerpted utilizes texts from Joyce's Ulysses and its corresponding chapter headings, with the other difference that instead of Cage's horizontal mapping of the Finnegan's Wake text, `exile' uses the Plastic Poetry method of trying to steer Cage's methods closer to the workings of the mind. The texts don't seem to come from chance operations but have the same end result, so it follows naturally that the vispo `node' of vertical reading would have the same Cagean connotive system.

TIME Life Books are great for instructional purposes. This book is easy to read and provided many pictures to guide you as you build your outdoor project. We use this as a guide for building our fence and outdoor patio cover. Great book!

I bought this book for the Rabbit Hutch only.
The rabbit hutch is exactly what I wanted. Easy access, simple to build, and the rabbit will love it.
If you put legs on it, it could be used inside with a litter pan underneath, which is what I plan to do with it. But I'm also going to make one for outside as well because it is made so that it's easy to move around.

The other projects include a wheeled two-seater bench (love it), a picnic table (it's not your regular picnic table design), an arbor with a seat, and an arbor with a swing, a folding screen and a very small tool shed. These were the ones I liked the most.

This breaks each technique (verdigris, liming, stippling, etc.) down into 5 to 7 steps. Each step is shown in a photos. The book is compact, but covers a lot in 224 pages. Some effects I hadn't seen before in books or in the brochures at paint stores. There is one showing painting faux sandstone blocks.
I can hardly wait to get the paint and try one of these effects. They are shown for a variety of surfaces (walls, floors, furniture, accessories).
Highly recommended if you want something besides plain ol' paint.

This book by Susan Driggers offers the clearest step by steps for creating some of the most popular painted finishes today. The beautiful photography and detailed instructions make it a fun and functional book to own. Lots of project ideas and paint finishes. Great gift idea for the do-it-yourselfer.

This is the book I've been waiting for!! the pictures are clear, exciting and colorful. Directions are step by step with color photographs to guide you along the way. This book is not your typical drab color painted furniture - this will add excitement to those one of a kind projects that everyone will comment on. A must-have for the adventurous painter who's an artist deep down!!

This book is so colorful and graphic in its presentation. I am a graphic designer and I found the easy to follow step by step photos enabled me to succesfully complete many of the techniques in this book on pieces of funriture in my own home. Although I have some art background this book helped me in areas I was unfamilar with- painting technique, faux finishes, brush loading and finishing. I would recommend this book to any creative or non-creative person. You are sure to have success with this book I know I did! You will love it!
