This has select pics from Michel Comte of his celebrity photography work, his photojournalism, his fashion work...something for everyone.I enjoyed the section on his fashion work the best.He has a pure,ethereal,stripped-down style I love. You have Jenny Shimizu,Karen Elson,(magnificent shot of her, can't describe it you just have to see it...),Erin O'Connor au naturel, and a number of unknown but GORGEOUS women, from all walks of life, from your waif-type to your neon-haired raver type to your ethereal amazonian blonde type(most of them nude,by the by...)...this is a really beautiful portfolio.I assume it's merely a prelude to Michel Comte's Faces, which I'm salivating to get my hands on(WHEN is it going to come out already? ).If you want to be sure you want to spring for that more expensive book, check this out.You won't be disappointed.

Kontraste/Contrasts is a full-size, paperback magazine style portfolio of Michel Comte (yes, there are a few advertisements in there). I was expecting a lot of wonderful fashion style images, and rightfully so. However, Comte did not only choose to include his masterful fashion images, which, in my opinion, carry less weight than the rest, he also included many of his photojournalistic work in a few war torn locations. Those images can be devastatingly haunting, and some of them gave me nightmares. It stops me for a while pondering how fortunate I am, to be able to view these images in a comfortable setting, even writing a little review about it. I think I am fortunate not having to be in the images. He succeeded in capturing and conveying the hopelessness, the helplessness and the tragedy behind wars. Maybe we should show these images to the politicians all over the world, especially those power-craze dictators.
If Fashion means only beautiful new clothing, this genre of photography may be too narrow-minded. To be, fashion means fashionable. And fashionable means anything, both good and bad, recent. Comte redefines the usual Fashion in the sense that these tragic events are also as recent and as fashionable as the models on the runways in Paris. It leaves me with a second thought about life.

Professionals might find the material redundant as they will probably have much of the material in several different sources in their libraries HOWEVER this book will be a wonderful addition as it includes information on all types of hair removal under one cover! It also includes a chapter on threading and another on laser physics and laser hair removal. While some textbooks incorrectly classify laser hair removal as permanent, this book does not. Students will probably cherish this book. Complicated ideas are made simple to understand with easy to follow text accompanied by wonderful photos and graphics. I suggest that students use this book as a study guide as it is indeed comprehensive yet far lighter than the heavy textbooks you prefer not to lug. For the consumer who wants to make informed choices as to hair removal options, Milady's Hair Removal Techniques, A Comprehensive Manual by Helen R. Bickmore, will help GUIDE you which is refeshing after so many try to SELL you.

A MUST if you love Italian Renaissance fashion

This book focuses on Florentine fashion c1540-1580 during the period when Eleonora of Toledo was Duchess of the city. Its inspiration is obviously the iconic portrait of her and her son Giovanni painted by Bronzino in 1545.
The book is full of rare gorgeous colour illustrations on high quality art paper. It starts out with a biography of Eleonara and then discusses her style. Then the book discusses individual garments she is known to have owned and surviving examples, including an extraordinary red velvet gown in the Pisa Mueso di Plazzo Reale. The book rounds off with a list of the garments recorded in Elenora's wardrobe accounts.
This book, published in both Italian and English, should be on the shopping list for anyone interested in Renaissance costume. Its one of those books you pick up and go "wow" and it's a visual feast on the eyes that is fully illustrated in colour.

There is very little written about Florentine fashion from the 16th Century. This book fills that gap admirably. It has gorgeous color pictures, many of which are published here for the first time. With full descriptions and a glossary of terms make this the perfect book for historians and lovers of historical costume alike. The text is in English and Italian (side-by-side on the same page) so it is easy to see the Italian terms and how they translate into English.

First of all Jessica and Elizabeth are interning at Flair, the hottest new fashion magazine around. Jessica is working in the Art Department and Liz is working in the Editorial Department. In this book Elizabeth catches Todd kissing a supermodel named Simone (otherwise known as the Fashion Witch). She flees from the room in tears because of Todd cheating on her. Jessica finally starts her modeling career at Flair, and Enid and Maria won't even talk to Elizabeth because she ignored them. While covering for her boss, Leona Pierson, Liz finds out that her boss is stealing her idea for the magazine. Well I don't want to spoil it for you, but you should definitely read this book! If you'd like to talk about SVH or Sweet Valley Twins write to me! It is one of my favorite Series!

Well, i must say that i certainly enjoyed this book. Todd reckons he's just sooo good now he is a model and also dating one too, talk about an ego problem. And simone has some nerve to be dating a high school boy! She must be pretty desperate. It's a real pity that Liz went through all the trouble of changing her looks and wardrobe for that two - faced slime Leona! Don't get me wrong, i think she looks great it just that she spent so much money and what does she get in return? A backstabing unoriginal theif that can't think of her own ideas! My favourite part in this book is the twin switch and when cameron realizes that it is Liz. But i kind of feel sorry for jessica when she has to date two people at once, i mean all she wants to do is persue her modeling career and date someone for his personality. What about maria and enid? I sorta think they shouldn't be so slack to liz after her horrible break up with todd. But overall i thought this was an excellent book and reccomend it to anyone!

This is a very good guide to how to make a career in modelling. The book also gives a great insight behind the scenes of the industry and the many different types of models there are-from 'Supermodels' to runway and part modelling. The book also looks at beauty and health(which is often a criticism of the industry). I think it is a good book for up and coming models as well as those(like me)who are just interested in the behind the scenes stuff! I bought the book for my girlfriend...and I haven't stopped looking at all the great pictures.

More Beautiful Purses is considered by most serious purse collectors to be the "Bible" of purse collecting. Ms. Haertig does an outstanding job of taking us through the history of purses, the process of constructing all different types of purses, different styles of purses, purse frames, beads and so, so much more. Her book is augmented by some of the most unique and gorgeous purses ever to be seen. If anyone is a serious purse collector or even interested in this fabulous lost art, this is definitely the first book you should buy.

The Norwegian ladies have done it again. This book is wonderful. Elizabeth Zimmerman herself would be proud of what these two gals have done. This book includes basics on designing knitwear, the Norwegian-way. Of course, many of their color schemes are definately NOT traditional AND they work! For the blind follower, the sweaters photographed in the book have patterns that faithfully reproduce the sweater in question.
They really have a great way of approaching this topic. check the book out.

This book is such an excellent textbook to study color knitting. The authors not only show twenty-one beautiful patterns with multiple size, but also encourage readers to create their own color design throughout the book. They explain how to develop motifs; they start from examining "dots", "lines", "diagonal lines", or "mirror images" and so on. And then how to create repeats and how to create on sweaters in Norwegian and Nordic tradition. So many charts are shown that it is a resourceful design book as well. The shapes of the sweaters shown are also traditional of its kind; mostly dropped sleeves and dolman-shaped sleeves. It also employs sleeking technique like in traditional fair isle type of sweaters. The bookfs focus is color, which is not very traditional, but is very modern. If you like KENZO type of colors, you will love all of their patterns. Every one of them in the book is as striking as the one shown on the cover. I obtained a second hand book, since it was the only available one. It pays me much more than its cost.

I've researched Victorian mourning and funeral customs for nearly 20 years and this is the quintessential guide, the best book on the subject I have found (and that was not easy, as it is out of print). Although written and published in England about the customs followed there, it offers the most complete and concise review of the subject that I have ever found. It is a must-have for anyone researching this subject and you will be lucky to get your hands on a copy.

My school library has a copy of this book and if I wasn't so moral I would steal it. The book covers a world history of Mourning clothing for both men and women. Most of its images are second hand sources but their are a few period paintings and pictures in it if I recall correctly.
I wish that people that had it would put it online for a price closer to its listed price so I could have a copy of my own.
