I grew up with Mark Long, so I know this much first hand. He and I know a bad fad when we see one, or should I say, lived one. This book is a personal trip down memory lane, and memory lane has alot of potholes and speed bumps, in other words, it's a rough and painful ride. I found myself laughing out loud most of the time while reading through BAD FADS simply because of the images of myself and my friends living those fads, Mark included. I promise, reading this book can only make you smile. It's worth every penny. Thanks, Mark, for the memories.

Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. A real walk down memory lane and a must read for nostalgia lovers. Great illustrations accompany the fads of the past century. Interestingly enough, many of these long-forgotten "Bad Fads" have reared their ugly heads in recent years, making what's old seem new again. This is one "bad" book.

To those fashionistas who remember the early 70s and to those who don't, this book is wonderfully interesting and perfectly detailed in its comparisons and reflections on the works of St. Laurent and Lagerfeld. Although in the early 70s the US was just starting to swing, it seems that Paris was sizzling. This book made me envious of everyone there. I would recommend this book to everyone interested in fashion, pop culture and Paris.

Bought as a gift for a teen and was such a great gift with loads of info that we'll buy more as gifts (and use myself). Lots of good tips and ideas for those on a tight budget, or who just want to be able to use natural ingredients for skin and hair. Also good info on how-to's, quick fixes, etc(especially for pesky pimples).

I was looking for a gift for some of my female friends who are into beauty and self-improvement. I was at a loss and didn't want to do the traditional Martha Stewart/Oprah stuff that everyone has already seen. I ran across this book and was pleasantly surprised by the tone and topic. Ms. Brenner takes an approach that is user-friendly and do it yourself. Who would have thought that you can actually make your own beauty products and that it isn't as hard as you'd think. My friends have loved the book and have already told me that they've tried many of the "recipes." This gift is great for those guys who don't know what to get their female friends but don't want to get them the same old same old.

I thoroughly enjoyed all the fun new ideas and all definitely budget! Some great recipes for skin & hair and I can make up concoctions from stuff I have in my kitchen today to give as gifts and save me money too. Even more than recipes...learned lots of new stuff rather than all the same tidbits you read in beauty magazines and different from other beauty secret books I've read before-very unique. And everything is quick and easy-no long drawn out procedures to follow. I always had problems with cracking, peeling, chapped lips all my life, it was so ugly and no matter what I used, it never worked and this book finally gave me remedy procedures-life saving-my lips don't bleed anymore-thank you! Great ideas for my frizzy hair too ...and improving my voice, posture, thousands of ideas, even diet stuff! Very happy :) If you're looking for a great reference book to keep, get this one. It's got all the tips from all those other books rolled up into one and more.
And Amazon got this book to me in just a few days on standard shipping-excellent!

Of all the weight-loss books I have read, this book has impressed me the most and certainly helped me lose more weight and keep it off. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in reading about sound and effective weight-loss as promoted by the doctor who wrote it.

I have several pattern books for knitting and crocheting baby items and this is now my newest favorite! The baby sock pattern alone is worth buying the book--the socks were easy to make (and I am NOT a sock knitter!) and they actually fit a newborn. I have not made all the items in the book yet but the things I have made were easy and fun. And I love the fact that it has both knitting and crochet patterns--I think more and more people are beginning to do both and it's nice to have a book that offers both.

There are some really unique and cute baby patterns in this book, especially the blankets. Each project includes a blanket, hat and booties that coordinate, which is nice. Most patterns are pretty easy, and the instuctions are very easy to follow. The only downside for me, is that about 1/2 the patterns are crochet, and I don't know how to crochet. But the knitting patterns are so cute that I still would buy the book.

The book starts with a little history of the doll from French and great vintage pictures are added (through out the book) to show how things were back than and there are instructions how to make the right embroidery stitches that were used. Patterns are actual size and easy to trace. Instructions are easy especially when you're an more experienced sewer but also the novice can have an easy start sewing because there are all kinds of patterns to find in this book. From very easy to complicated (more pattern pieces, pleats to make, put trimming on etc.)you will always find the right pattern to start with.
The pictures of the fashions to make, are the size of one page - 9"x12" - so all kinds of details are there to see. What can I say but this is a wonderful addition to your doll(pattern) books and I'm sure you'll love it! Good for hours and hours of reading and sewing pleasure.

This book begins with an interesting overview of the beginnings of the home-sewing pattern industry, and has many interesting tidbits on that alone. But the real treat is page upon page of reproductions of the fronts of pattern envelopes from the fifties, most in color, and all beautiful. Hundreds of ideas for clothing for today.

In "Botanical Body Care: Herbs And Natural Healing For Your Whole Body", practicing herbalist, teacher, and nutritional consultant Karin C. Uphoff shows how anyone can increase their vitality, strengthen their immune system, relieve physical and psychological stress, prevent illness, and treat common ailments through the use of natural plants and thereby avoid the harmful side effects (and expense!) of conventional pharmaceuticals. "Botanical Body Care' shows how readily available herbs can be easily made into tinctures, extracts, salves, and flavorful teas which have a long and honored history as a general, effective natural remedy for a great many commonly encountered medical conditions. An impressive and thoroughly 'reader friendly' 259-page compendium of herbal medicine, "Botanical Body Care" is an invaluable addition to personal and community library Health & Medicine reference collections, and especially recommended reading for health practitioners, students of the healing arts, nutritionists, dietitians, and non-specialist general readers seeking to take better care of themselves and their families.

Crisp, intelligent, down to earth, practical - I find this to be a perfect balance between a lay person's book and something more academic. As a result, it's highly informative and yet easy to, er, digest, with lots of tips and tricks, thorough explanations of why things work the way they do, and fun recipes and other things to try. A rare integrated approach to health and healing. I would have this on my shelf for anyone wanting to stay healthy or dealing with a specific health issue - either wanting to try something outside of or in tandem with western medical practices. Lots of "old world" wisdom here. Highly recommended.

A basic guide to using herbs for health purposes, this book contains many easy to make recipes for specific problems. The various body systems covered include intestinal, digestive, respiratory, urinary, reproductive, nervous, lymph, and the immune system. The author discusses each system, common problems and herbal recipes that can be used to treat various problems. A particularly interesting Appendix includes information on how to use herbs commonly found in most kitchens to benefit your health.
If you want a basic primer on using herbs that is not so complex as to make it impossible to comprehend and yet not so basic that it really is useless then this may be the book you are looking for. Author Karin Uphoff strikes a solid middle ground to make Botanical Body Care approachable to everyone from the complete novice to the intermediate level person interested in herbal recipes. Botanical Body Care is highly recommended to the home user interested in botanical remedies.

I saw the author on the Tyra Banks show and was amazed at the information she revealed. The book gives various guides. The guide which helped me involved selecting a shirt/blouse size which indicates the correct band size (a size smaller for me - evidently I have a small frame and large bust) and then the guide told me to go up a cup size and to go down a band size. Seems most of us wear our bras too loose. Just wearing a bra tighter is not the answer either. Please get the book. It is a great guide. There is information for all bust sizes. Generally, she says smaller busted women are wearing too small a bra - and she tells the reasons and the size required. At her web site is a locator for stores that have a professional bra fitter. I live 90 miles from Tucson, Az and there are a couple of stores that have Pro bra fitters. All I needed was the book. Keep in mind that bras vary by Brand and design.
The author mentions that sometimes bras need to be altered. My daughter has done that for years, but through this book she discovered that she had chosen the wrong place to do the alteration.
Really, Gals, This is a terrific little book. Only a few pages with large print but it SAYS enough to aid all of us who wear bras. Takes about an hour to read. Thanks again to the Tyra Show for being informative.

Reading Bra Talk was just icing on the Susan Nethero cake. It was a quick and easy read that gives basic (but necessary) facts about bras from appropriately choosing your cup size to busting bra myths. I love the book, but I love Intimacy (her store) even more. I've been a personal customer of Susan Nethero for several years and not only do I trust her touch as a bra fitter, but everything I've ever bought from her are my favorites in my underwear drawer. She, her staff and her merchandise help people understand that having a bra that fits and sexy lingerie isn't about sex, it's about feeling beautiful!!

This book is amazing. It's a great reference for the everday clothes of women on the frontier. It discusses general fashions along with construction techniques and material choices. There are lots of good pictures of clothes, including some close-ups to see details of construction. The book also talks about how women treated their clothes--where they brought them from, how they re-used and re-fashioned them, how they got new materials, and such. It's particularly excellent in that it focuses largely on the group of women who aren't in many of the other books, those who weren't in a city and couldn't follow Parisian fashions and have new dresses every season. A wonderful book for anyone interested in the fashions of homesteading women.
