A great reference book for all those interested in Renaissance Literature. Well researched and complete, a very scholarly work.

I rate this book 5 stars because it gives you all the information you need on gissing. I had to write a four page paper on him and it gave me everything I needed. I wish that there were more books in the world that gave that much information on one single, simple little subject. I haven't seen a book in years that has actually had all the information you need all in one book. I didn't have to find 6 or 7 books just to write a 3 or 4 page paper. I exceeded my number of pages and my teacher gave me an A on the paper and it brought my grades alot and he told me if I would keep writing papers like that then I would have and A in his class I am glad that I made that grade now I can complete other papers like that and get a higher grade in a class.

I really like Amazon and buy a lot of stuff from them. I like their service and prices...most of the time. This book which is (sort of) hard to find and somewhat specialized is one of those items that's way overpriced at Amazon. I bought a used but mint copy elsewhere for 8.95.
When it comes to used books, shop around before you buy. You might save a ton of money. I had to give the book (review) 4 stars but that doesn't include Amazon's exorbitant price.

For any kind of reserch paper on Lewis Carroll, this a good book to look through. This book is like Anotated Alice, yet different. It includes some annotations, but is still mostly about his life. How many people knew that the Lewis Carroll based his books on a real Alice? Going even further, how many people know that he used a different Alice in the sequel? You can find all this and more in the book. For example, some people may not know that Charles Dodgson had O.C.D. And his best friends were little girls? The things that are in that book are amazing, and very helpful. Cheers!!!!!!!! : )

Excellent book on Germans from Russia census. As a geneologist and family historian I had never heard of the 1939 census but it gave me a different enlightment on the what the census can prove or not prove, the whereabouts of your ancestors when they came to the USA, where they lived as minorities, their homeland etc. The book is rated excellent in my eyes.

An excellent job of selection, both of authors and stories. Of especial interest is the mammoth list of anthologies at the end of the book. One wants to collect them all -- which I did!

While Piranesi is well known for his bizarre prison design sketches, his drawings of ancient Rome are even better I feel.

This book includes a few dozen highly detailed sketches of ancient Rome as it looked when he visited in the 1700s. The area was filled with these fantastical buildings, almost 2000 years old, overgrown and desolate but amazingly intact. If you've ever wondered what the ancient world looked like before the industrial age when museums absorbed everything...this is the one to read.

It seems James Parish churns out far too many books. However, his series of books dealing with films and stars of the Golden period of Hollywood are absolutely indispensible for movie buffs.

Anyone old enough to remember the old (now defunct) film magazine, ''Films in Review'', will recall the magazine's monthly career article on stars which covered their films in detail. The article was followed by a filmography and many photos.

The Glamour Girls is in similar vein. It covers the careers of female stars who were known for their beauty and glamour - stars like Joan Bennett, Yvonne De Carlo, Rita Hayworth, Audrey Hepburn, Jennifer Jones, Maria Montez, Kin Novak, Merle Oberon and Vera Ralston.

The great thing about this book is that all of the stars' films are covered in detail along with details about their personal lives (each chapter is like a mini book). At the end is a detailed filmography and a section on photos.

Anyone interested in old stars should immediately add this great book to their library.

A good addition to a professional library, this book lists print, media, and computer resources for studies of Asia and its individual countries. An introduction section gives hints and tips, then the book is divided into print and nonprint, web sites, keypal/penpal sections. World resources web sites and indexes are given at the end.

Like any book with web addresses, you may find some changed or gone, but a trial on a sampling of sites was usually successful (i.e. most worked). The summary and grade level suggestions given with each resource are helpful, and the author seems to have worked to include materials for lower grades as well as upper.

Not since DTSB showed me his house have I been so excited. Walsh give an in depth look at the lives and record cataolgue of the group of minks that were the sex pistols. The best c***in' book ever. Everyone from the hill to leitrim recomends that if you can read then this is the book for you, ya readins b******s ya. A truely head smashing read!
