Great Reference Book - Must have for Book Dealers
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2002-05-30
I only wish Jon Warren would put out a 2nd Edition. This edition written in 1991 has 41,000 listings of paperbacks from 1929-1981. Although not all books by all publishers are listed through 1981. It is the only reference book on paperbacks that is so complete.

Sections are divided by Publisher's and books are then listed in numerical order, which makes it easy to find most titles. Price guide gives quotes for Good, VG, and F. It also lists the cover artist, and whether or not it is PBO (paperback original).

If you can get your hands on this hard to find book. Do so.

Allthough it didn't seem to mention that the book was in black & white, it still is pretty interesting to see all the products the TMNT appeared on. It also has the covers for their comics, and speaking of wich, I didn't see the Ninja Turtle enima bags mentioned in Mirage issue #41 in this book. LOL

This is a great way for beginning coin collectors to learn the proper techniques, and also has great details about the Statehood quarter program and the design process. I love collecting these quarters, it really is interesting to learn about the early moments in state histories.

A MUST HAVE for any lure collector!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-10-07
This is an awesome book just crammed full of information on lures made by, I think, every company to ever produce a lure in Ohio. I myself am not a "fisherman" (or fisher-lady), but I am interested in collecting antique lures (thanks to my grandfather and brother who are/were HUGE into fishing)...I never realized how much those old fishing lures in my shed were worth until I read Mr. Heston's book (I just collected them because they made me think of my grandfather). This author is obviously a true lover of all things fishing. This book is well written and extremely thorough, an ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE for anyone interested in collecting antique fishing lures...or anyone who has an old tackle box collecting dust in a garage, shed, or attic...before you throw out that old tackle you just might wanna check out this book, like me you could find that that old fishing junk is actually a true treasure!!

I am greatly looking forward to reading more titles written by this author!

A Must Have For The True Collector
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-09-29
Henry C. Hitt was one of the most famous of the early Chinese snuff bottle collectors. He was friends with many well known collectors. He found there was very little informationn available for collectors. In 1945 he decided to publish what became the very first ever reference book on Chinese snuff bottles. It was war time and he found that he had to hand print the entire text and make his own hand drawn illustrations. He was able to glue in several photographs. This original printing he gave away free to anyone that showed interest. Many well known libraries were amongst those interested. The book was such a famous reference book for collectors that a publishing company eventually did a reprint keeping the hand printed text and illustrations the same as the original printing. An index and supplement plus some minor changes enhanced this reprint. It still serves as an excellent reference book in addition to serving as a staple part of a collection of Chinese snuff bottles and related items. Fortunately, unlike many modern books on the subject, it is very affordable. I am a very serious collector and purveyor of snuff bottles. I knew of Henry Hitt and also about his ground breaking book. I believed his book may be collectable but figured there was very little I could learn from reading it. Needless to say I bought a copy from Amazon.com and when it arrived I didn't put it down until I finished reading it. It is very easy reading for the novice and very informative for the old pro. It should be the first book you read on Chinese snuff bottles and if your interest is perked you should move on to Lilla S. Perry's book "Chinese Snuff Bottles The Adventures & Studies of a Collector". A book that has had many printings and is also very affordable for a used copy. I strongly urge anyone with an interest at all in Chinese Snuff Bottles to get this book. Thank you, have a nice day and happy reading.

Old English porcelain: A handbook for collectors

THE "BEST" REFERENCE SOURCE FOR ENGLISH PORCELAIN
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-09-08
W.B. HONEY always had a way a bringing forth facts and details about pottery and porcelain, in a way where the student wasn't "bored to death" or drowsily turing the pages in his books. Instead he uses a "alive" style of writing that not only keeps the reader interested and "awake" but also teaches them facts and provides them with details that were formerly only thought attainable by studying drole and "stale" old textbooks.
Honey not only has immense information on each of the then known porcelain manufacturers of the 18th century, but he also gives the reader the "keys to identifying" the almost always unmarked specimens. He trains the reader not to look at marks but rather to use the clay, glaze and decoration to attribute the manufacturer. He discusses almost every major manufacturer. From the Chelsea Manufactury to Machin of Staffordshire. This should be the first book added to any English Porcelain collectors collection.

A great reference!

I LOVE this stained glass book. It has hundreds of color photos of stained glass windows in countless styles, from prairie to etched to bevels to antique "factory" English, English muffle, and a lot more. This is an awesome reference tool for designs for making your own stained glass windows, and its just fun to look at. You can't go wrong with this book - it should be a "must-have" for every person who is seriously interested in the craft of stained glass.

The book is great; the price is NOT. It used to be $10 here on Amazon and now it costs the full cover price! I was just about to buy one as a gift and now I've changed my mind. So that's a bummer - I would look elsewhere to try and find a better deal. You might as well buy it in a regular bookstore and not have to deal with waiting for it to ship and stuff.

A great read... now all I have to do is get my dad to give it back!

I picked this book up for Christmas, knowing no one would buy it for me.
Seeing the book on the table my dad glommed on to it and hasn't given it back!
When I had it, it was a great read! Now my dad loves it!
Grab yourself a copy. Maybe get two so your dad doesn't have to steal it.
