Collecting Books

Written from the point of view of the collector this book gives an excellent historical review of combs and hair ornaments of all types and styles. Not only precious stone and diamond items are covered but those made from more humble and available materials like turtle-shell, ivory, coral and gilt metal. The author goes into a great deal of detail about social facts, history and etiquette which lay behind the development of different styles of ornaments. There is also information on collecting and looking after these ornaments.

Great book for it size-packed with all sorts of ideas/ways(outlines) to make and collect dolls,,a real help and great starter book!! a real dolllover-and maker(hopefully more now)

I have been collecting Hot Wheels cars since they first came out back in the fall of 1967. I was just a 9 year old youngster at the time, but I can still remember the excitement of seeing a new car, or a different color on the pegs at the WoolWorths store in downtown New Britain. I would save as much of my allowance, and also any money I had earned by helping my neighbor's take in the groceries, so that I could get a new Hot Wheel, the next time my friends and I took our weekly trek downtown.

Now that I am in my late 30's, I have every single book ever printed about collecting Hot Wheels. I have read all of them from cover to cover at least twice. I can say with certainty that Bob Parkers books are a much better resource for the serious Hot Wheels collector, than all of the others combined. I am not saying that I do not use the other books, such as Tomarts, and some of the other literature written by Strauss, but when I want accurate information, I always reach for Parkers books. I have found too many errors and inaccuracies in Mike Strauss' books, that I can just not rely on them for any serious information. I use the Tomarts mainly to aid in identifying some Hot Wheels via the photographs. I am currently waiting for Mr. Parkers latest book, which I just ordered from Amazon.com today. Look for my review of his latest work about 2 months after I receive it. If his newest book is even half as good as his previous books, we are all in for a real wealth of important information and data on the hobby of collecting Hot Wheels.

This is in its 18th edition. For the authors watches are their liveliehood and their passion. The number of photos is unexcelled although there is always room for improvement, the text at the beginning gives the beginner the knowledge and the glossary at the end a quick reference for terms. It is heavy on pockets but, also chock full of pictures on wristwatches and their prices, the industry almost standard (the market rules) For the money a hard book to beat if you buy more than one watch a year will save the buyer much more than the price of the book many times over. This IS the book to buy without question - universal among hobbyists and collectors alike.

Hats off to the author and editors of this book, for it is EXCELLENT!!! This is one of the best laid out, best produced and most thoughtfully written books on coins that I own and, indeed, have yet seen. I highly recommend this to anyone who has an interest in Buffalos. Yes, it is spendy, but with hardcover and good quality reproduction and paperstock (certainly not the highest quality, but good nonetheless), this has to take its place as one of the best values in the coin book world. What I like about this book is that it lays it all out right from the beginning with a protracted but not uninteresting discussion of how the coin came about and including all of the technical/political issues facing the artist, engravers and minters, etc., including lots of pithy back and forth amongst them all as issues are resolved. Next is a chapter on how to grade Buffaloes, one that discusses varieties and rarities and, importantly, then takes on the issue of fakes, frauds and counterfeits that attempt to mimic the rarities. Finally, comes a coin by coin discussion singling out each year and mint with a discussion of relative rarity in various conditions, strike anomalies and, most helpfully, includes photographic examples of important varieties. This is really a super and helpful reference book and I think you would do well to own.

Ben Rapaport has achieved supplying a valuable book for the average pipe collector which covers a wide spectrum of pipe styles. Personally this book will spend a lot of time travelling the world with me.

These 210 pages is the best overall coin collecting book ever printed! This should be required reading for every collector.
