Collecting Books

This is the best book on barbed wire identification that I have found. It is actually a catalog of line drawings of barbed wire patents. Because of this, there may be drawings of wire that may have never actually been produced. The drawings are very clear and are identified by name, patent number and patent date. There are no references to "Barbed Wire Bible" numbers that are commonly used to identify wire samples in collections. This is not a criticism, only an observation.

The best feature of this catalog is that it is arranged by classifying barbed wire by its attributes (e.g. 2 points, 4 points, metalic strip, etc.). This makes locating a wire sample very convenient.

Jerry Brownstein's title, Beacon Blankets: Make Warm Friends is a very well researched, and complete book on the history and information of Beacon blankets. For the collector, or just an admirerer, this is a terrific reference to own. The photos are detailed and it features a lot of past styles of blankets. I recommend, highly!

This definitive guide to eggbeaters has a newer edition, "The Eggbeater Chronicles, 2nd ed." with over 1000 beaters' descriptions, photos and history. A must for everyone interested in vintage kitchen collectibles!

This book has been my side kick since it was published in 1974.

The photographs are great.

It covers the entire numismatic range from primitive and ancient coinage to modern era artistic trend.

The narrative is a refreshing adjunct to the main attraction of the book, the photography.

I recommend this book.

Read it once to understand it's scope and then refer to it periodically for a refresher on the art of the mint master.

As a primarily modern Betsy collector, I was thrilled at the vast amount of information on the Tonner Betsy dolls, and loved seeing the vintage outfits and dolls pictured in the book. Marci has really done her homework, this is one fabulous book!

This new, year 2000 book contains 160 pages with more than 300 large, sharp, full color photos, and prices of more than 1,200 collectible bears. There's a nice introduction and plenty of useful text in this book. Topics range from Avon Full O'Beans, to Chilly Bears, Godiva, Harley-Davidson, Paddington, Ty, Beanie, Winnie-the-Poo and Yogi Bear. There's information on Bear Trends, Tips for Buying and Selling Bears, Using the Internet, Tips for selling on E-Bay. Also data on current lingo, bear condition, counterfeit bears and a list of internet resources. Very interesting and valuable for collectors of little bears.

This is one of the best books on pottery that I have purchased. It's very easy to locate a piece along with its value. Factory marks and numbers are well explained. I highly recommend this book.
