I have used this book on several occasions for teaching church groups about the importance of praise & worship and the role of music ministry in the church. Beginning with the preface and introduction, the book reads well and is extremely informative. I often recommend it to church choir directors and other music ministers for reviewing with their choirs. It is a must read!

I really found this to be an excellent book for anyone wanting an overview of the Christian faith. I highly recommend this book as a witnessing tool to those who are spiritually struggling. It is an easy read, but you learn alot. Definitely worth your time and money!

Written by a minister of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, Being Single in the Church Today: Insights from History and Personal Stories recognizes that an increasingly greater portion of modern society and those attending church are single, and examines the implications for church society and ministry. Discussing the situations for churches in Britain, Ireland, Europe, and America, Being Single in the Church Today looks plainly at issues of sexuality, the difficulty of finding a suitable partner, the shortage of single Christian men that puts single Christian women at a distinct disadvantage, interviews with numerous Christian singles about their experiences and perspectives, and much more. Supported by a careful gathering of statistics, Being Single in the Church Today does not fall back on a preachy tone or closed-minded attitudes, but honestly and realistically approaches how the church can best adapt to help single people nurture their faith.

Anselm Grun, a Benedictine monk with a doctorate in theology, couldn't be more practical. To set the stage, he points out the similarities between Benedict's time and our own. Fifteen hundred years ago, Benedict responded to the continual changes of the day with a demand for "stability." Interpreting Benedict's rule, Grun suggests that self-imposed external order brings order to one's moods and feelings as well, rather than simply pushing them down.

Grun applies Benedict's message to the twenty-first century plight of feeling overburdened by work. Today, he writes, many wish to leave the world of work altogether, often a flight from both reality and God. But Benedict's rule and the rhythm of the monastery guide us toward managing work in the light of prayer. Grun provides well defined steps for dealing with irritations on the job, clarifying goals, doing one's best then "turning off" the world of work. Throughout the chapters on discernment, peace, and community, Grun follows the same format, connecting Benedict's writing with the modern world and offering concrete suggestions.

This is a valuable, easy-to-follow resource for individuals and small groups, who might find some surprises in the section on community.

Excellent book......Made the process plain and simple.....Well written and highly readable

Half a century after the Holocaust, surely it is time for those of us who are Christian to face, acknowledge, and examine the truly horrifying streams of anti-semitism that have been part of even "main stream" Christianity for so long. This is a virtually untold history that will shock almost all readers who think of themselves as Chritians, and it should. It is probably the least well known aspect of the Third Reich, and raises very sensitive issues about Christian theologies (and theologians) which have been unable or unwilling to learn from this history. From the startling photograph on the cover, to the last page, this book is a powerful wake-up call!

An Incredible Book on Synergistic Ministry. Dr. Davis and Dr. Bright do a powerful job of combining biblical truths with relevant cultural input. One of the best books available on how to be in ministry not do ministry!

I just finished reading this book. What astounded me was that a church could confront a moral issue with love, forgiveness and restoration, and it could be done with success. It is a shame that this book is no longer in print because the message of true restoration rather than destruction is one that today's church still needs.

Absolutely amazing book. Spencer goes beyond 'mere opinion' by utilizing hermeneutical methodology to prove her point that women are equal to men in the sight of God and should be allowed to fully participate in minstry and teaching in the church. She explores the original Hebrew and Greek as well as historical context of the NT epistles. This is a book that church traditionalists who believe in the secondary role of women to men do not want their members to read. One note - while Spencer's treatise is somewhat dry as it goes into so much depth, it's worth reading nonetheless.
