I thank God for Dr. Marva Mitchell for her obedience to Him in writing such a powerful book. "It Takes A Church To Raise A Village", is a phenomenal tool on how we, the Body Of Christ must get involved and extend Hope and release love to underprivileged communities.

I enjoyed this book. It's fast, easy, and powerful reading. Most importantly, it made me think about the real purpose of the church in our society and my role in it. Are we just sitting in beautiful edifices week after week or are we here to do a life changing work in the village of our communities? This book's message is beneficial for individuals and the church collectively. Buy it; read it if you want to be influenced to make a difference in your village!

MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW

I have to admit I was not particularly looking forward to reading yet another book about church splits, but by page 5 I was really hooked. The author does not just tell the story, but gives the answers to end this age old problem, like a breath of fresh air you feel there is hope.

Francis Frangipane takes you gently into
the areas that the enemy uses to corrupt
the unity of God's church. He shows you,
in down to earth ways, how to avoid being
a part of this corruption and what to do if

you are confronted with it; answering a lot of heart felt questions, he leads you to healing the hurts that you may have within your spirit
from being a victim or a participant in this event.

Mr. Frangipane shows the damage that church splits do to the Body of Christ and our testimony as a whole, not in a condemning way, but in a thought provoking way that should bring every Christian to their knees in prayer for the Body of Christ.
Through his words we can see it's time we join together and put an end to this invasion from the enemy of the church; and the author writes the words that will help mend the broken fences if the church will listen
and apply the truths spoken within these pages.

Recommended read for all serious Christians!

A renewed look at the thoughts and comments
Helpful Votes: 31 out of 38 total.
Review Date: 2005-03-07
Jefferson And Madison On Separation Of Church And State: Writings On Religion And Secularism is painstakingly compiled and professionally edited by historian, journalist, lecturer and freethinker Lenni Brenner. In today's political climate of red states and blue states, neo-cons and the religious right, "family values" and federally funded "faith-based" initiative, prayer in public schools and moves to constitutionally deny gay marriage, a renewed look at the thoughts and comments by two of our most influential founding fathers on the subject of religion and the state is both timely and needed. The selections comprising this highly recommended reference for politicians, clergy, and non-specialist general readers with a stake in the separation of church and state, draw from correspondence between Thomas Jefferson and James Madison and other notable figures of early American history including George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Law, John Jay, Tom Paine, William Bradford, and the Marquis de Lafayette. Of special note are two appendices in which the timelines of Jefferson and Madison's lives are presented, and a "Scholar's Afterword" which traces the history of religion in American politics from the Civil War to the present day. Urgently recommended reading!

Both Jefferson and Madison were most probably Deists, most certainly hostile to "organized religion" including Christianity. It's rather amazing how our universal public education and our omnipresent "educational" media have left so many of us so much less capable of reasoned scepticism than our scarcely-educated founding fathers.

A Comprehensive Look at Jacobean England

A very thorough and perceptive analysis of the Reign of James VI of Scotland, later to be James I of England. Patterson's depiction of James as a conciliatory force within British Christendom is well supported in this excellent period history. Articulate and intellectually stimulating.

A Significant Historic Contribution

Dr. Patterson's King James VI and I and the Reunion of Christendom is a significant contribution to the volume of works written about early 17th Century . The work shows that James tried to acheive an ecumenical union among the fractured states of Europe in a century that saw one crisis after another. The incredible amount of research that went into this book is clearly evident. This would make an excellent addition to anyone's library.

This is an outstanding book on higher education law. Lots of case examples and descriptions. A little repetative at some points, but I suppose that is true about law in general. Not even as dry as one might think about a 2 volume law book set.

A Must-Have for University Administrators

Kaplin & Lee's "The Law of Higher Education (Third Edition)" was the required text for a graduate course, "Legal Aspects of Higher Education" and should be present on the bookshelf of any university administrator. The book's subtitle, "A Comprehensive Guide to Legal Implications of Administrative Decision Making," is wholly accurate in describing the scope and utility of this massive tome (over 1,000 pages from cover to cover).

The book is a valuable investment on a number of fronts, not the least of which is the paucity of comparable texts on this complex topic. "The Law of Higher Education" begins with an overview of postsecondary education law and continues with an interesting organization that considers the college and its various constituencies -- "The College and Trustees, Administrators, and Staff," "The College and the Faculty," "The College and the Students," "The College and the Community," "The College and the State Government," "The College and the Federal Government," "The College and the Educational Associations," and "The College and the Business/Industrial Community." Each chapter is further broken down into key arenas (for example, in the chapter on students, a few of the topics include admissions, financial aid, disciplinary rules and regulations, and athletics). Each topic includes a context and is connected to numerous examples from case law. Despite the high degree of legal terminology, the book is readable for the layperson. There are separate indices for subject, statute, and cases that make it easy to locate relevant information.

This book is an excellent treatment of the enormously complex field of high education law.

For those of us called to lead worship regularly, trying to find appropriate material can be difficult. We are in debt to Bayler for his series of books based on the Revised Common Lectionary, years A, B, and C. He has a gift for language, his responsive readings, prayers, and other guides are outstanding. I've used most of the other resources for worship in the last 17 years, resources of all denominations, but I believe that this is clearly far and away the best. I have never been disappointed with the suggestions made for each Sunday.

A Great Historical Reference
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2000-11-20
Since the collection of "Letters from Annapolis" spans a period of more than 120 years, they cannot help but reflect the events that shaped our nation. For example, the letters of Oliver Batcheller offers a student's view of the news surrounding the start of the Civil War. Upon the bombardment of Fort Sumpter, he writes "the Academy is likely to be rid of those who do not wish to resign just now, and most of the Sourtherners have tendered their resignations." But the book had some lighter sides too. Regardless of the year, letters to parents often included passages like "thanks much for the money you sent" or " believe me...it wasn't my fault!" Thanks to editor Ann Marie Drew for a great work. I would not only recommend "Letters" to any history buff but believe it would be especially valuable to a prospective student wishing to get a closer look at the life of a midshipman

I have read this book over and over again because it is unbelievable. It has letters from numerous former midshipmen from almost the time the 'Naval School' opened, till the time when a man became a Naval Academy midshipman in 1969. It is a great read and it has great details of the life of midshipmen.

Worship - an authors perspective from the other side
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2003-07-03
This book has been such a blessing - from a man who lived - and died - a lifestyle of worship.

David Morris was and is my best friend - I knew him personally and learned to love him and his example of Christ he lived every day. David overcame great adversity in his life (explained in the book), knew the depths of personal failure, yet through the grace of God came out on the other side with a powerful testimony - and more powerfully - a lifestyle which consistenly reflected the nature of Jesus - not only to me, but to all he ministered to.

David's life has powerfully - and in a lasting way has touch my life - even after his death - in a way which continues to amaze me.

This book captures the essence of what David walked out in a daily basis.

This book will help you pursue a deeper and more meaningful walk with God! I continue to miss him deeply and look forward to the day we will be reunited!

Worship is more than a Sunday morning event...

Let me start off by saying that this book is not an emotional spritzer - you know the kind - a book written to hype your emotions to a new level, only to drop you later when you realize JUST HOW HARD LIFE REALLY IS! Although Morris's personal story will move you, there is SO MUCH MORE to his book! It was not written to further your own personal guilt trip due to failures in private devotions and worship, but to break the viscious cycle and help each of us move into a new level of intimacy and relationship with our Heavenly Father! It's about time!

Beyond private worship - it's also about corporate worship and the many different forms that takes. He covers topics on prophetic dance, warfare praise and worship and a host of other contemporary worship concepts. Underneath all he writes, Morris lays a very solid biblical foundation for the concepts he presents. He is authoratitive and speaks out of his years of experience as a worship leader. This is a must read for church worship leaders and music directors.

This book has an edge to it - it's called the cutting edge...

Excellent resource for small churches

This book is divided into easy to follow chapters. At the end of each chapter, there are questions designed to promote thought on the theme of the chapter. This is a small book and would be very useful for a church retreat, workshop, etc. There is also an extensive bibliography.

Help for those who want to boost morale in small churches.

Plenty of helpful concepts for understanding small churches and the difficulties they face. But also plenty of helpful constructs for understanding, analyzing, loving small churches. And many fresh ideas for morale boosting.
