This book is an excellent resource for aspiring teachers. Wood provides very valuable insight into the world of technology and the ways in which teachers can creatively and thoughtfully integrate it into the Language Arts curriculum framework. The suggestions are clever, fun, and engaging for writing students with various skill levels, and teachers with all experience levels.

This edited volume consists of papers delivered at a conference I organized at the University of Alabama in October 1989, one that was dominated by the excitement (or possibly hype) associated with what was then the relatively new and still strange-sounding term of hypertext. Indeed the self-proclaimed coiner of the term, Ted Nelson, delivered a rambling monologue on how the concept would solve both many of the world's problems (such as organizing and storing global knowledge) and many of his own personal problems, such as being unable to write a coherent essay--the solution to this latter problem was simple: put all your individual thoughts on individual hypercards and let readers organize them as they might. There is a fair amount of editorial intrusion in the volume, in the introduction and conclusion as well as with discussions with the participants following their essays, where my own skepticism seeps through, producing what is arguably a more balanced account, while still reflecting the excitement of an historical moment that most participants felt marked a truly revolutionary change in how we write.

This is the book for all teachers who love literature and desire to utilize internet resources with their children, but don't have the time to research hundreds of sites on their own. Karen A. Moran has done a thorough job of finding appropriate sites that relate to 38 different children's books. To name a few, the book includes Charlotte's Web, Night of the Twisters, Hatchet, Cricket in Times Square, Indian in the cupboard, Ribsey, Summer of my German Soldier, and The Watson's go to Burmingham - 1963. For each title, the author lists an average of five different web sites that contain a curriculum connection to the book. The activity suggestions range in grade level ability and are both fresh and creative! Included also are other suggested resources, and professional materials.
A must have for any elementary teacher working with books and computers!

This little book should be in everyone's household or office. It is absolutely the most informative, easy-to-read, amazing liitle book anywhere. The table of contents is loaded with informative titles of sections, leading you to the best instruction on how to construct the perfect paper. That is what you will have. You will have the perfect research paper, the greatest essay and you'll know how to punctuate properly, and use proper grammar. I can't live without it. I take it to classes, I have an extra copy by the computer, and I use it constantly. There is no excuse for poorly written papers. Anyone can understand this book, plus the book gives examples of what not to do, and then how to do it properly. You can't miss!

I am the author of this book. It was written especially for my children as I was trying to teach them the valuable lesson of telling the truth and how good it feels to do so. I think other parents would enjoy using this book as a lesson tool. It's a story that children and their families will love reading over and over again.

The description of this book doesn't do it justice. This is a very funny book. I got an advanced copy from a buddy's wife who is friends with the author. I'm not much into "chick" books about relationships but I laughed my a** off reading this one.
She describes her experiences with the whole online dating thing. I always wondered what other men say in their "wink" emails they send to a woman's online profile in order to catch her attention. Gee, now I know why these guys can't get a date or keep a woman. I was shocked at the ungentlemanly behavior of these men. You'd think when a guy sends his first email to a woman he's attracted to, he'd a least spell check it. But noooo, the guys that wrote the author are complete morons. She includes excerpts of emails just the way they sent them, bad spelling and all. Are that many of us out there such big social oafs? The stuff the online guys said to try to impress her is funny enough, but it's the author's comebacks that are hilarious and make this book a very entertaining read. As a guy, I think I learned a lot about what NOT to do on a date, also. She describes the dates she had with some of the losers she "met" online, and the stories had me laughing out loud. She also chronicles her lifelong experiences with men, and how she seems to always attract the biggest losers. Do all attractive women attract such losers?
Anyway, if you want a good laugh, buy the book. I can't do it justice here, but it's the funniest book I've read since Seinfeld's "Seinlanguage". I think after reading it, I'm more glad than ever I'm a guy.
