HilariousReview Date: 2006-04-17
She describes her experiences with the whole online dating thing. I always wondered what other men say in their "wink" emails they send to a woman's online profile in order to catch her attention. Gee, now I know why these guys can't get a date or keep a woman. I was shocked at the ungentlemanly behavior of these men. You'd think when a guy sends his first email to a woman he's attracted to, he'd a least spell check it. But noooo, the guys that wrote the author are complete morons. She includes excerpts of emails just the way they sent them, bad spelling and all. Are that many of us out there such big social oafs? The stuff the online guys said to try to impress her is funny enough, but it's the author's comebacks that are hilarious and make this book a very entertaining read. As a guy, I think I learned a lot about what NOT to do on a date, also. She describes the dates she had with some of the losers she "met" online, and the stories had me laughing out loud. She also chronicles her lifelong experiences with men, and how she seems to always attract the biggest losers. Do all attractive women attract such losers?
Anyway, if you want a good laugh, buy the book. I can't do it justice here, but it's the funniest book I've read since Seinfeld's "Seinlanguage". I think after reading it, I'm more glad than ever I'm a guy.

Applied psychology for the Internet AgeReview Date: 2000-09-06
The author is a trained Freudian analyst, who has applied his skills as a PhD in psychology to many business settings, as well as to treating patients in an office setting.
The book deals with two major issues: 1) Why some people benefit from chat rooms while others become hooked on the internet. 2) Why corporate users and managers sometimes have very negative reactions to successful technology projects. As an academician who spent 20 years in Corporate I.S. before becoming a professor, I have always wondered why very successful I.S. projects are sometimes so badly received. Dr. Civin's insights have helped me understand some otherwise painful behavior I have encountered in the past.
I have immediately begun using some of the author's insights in human behavior in my own teaching of Systems Analysis and Project Management.
The only downside of this book is that it is very heavily laden with technical psychology language and terms. Readers will find the language easier if they, too, have some background or training in psychology.

Exhilaratingly mind provokingReview Date: 2004-10-10
Dr Tan can often times be cynical, yet arguing relentlessly that man is not special at all in the animal kingdom.
If not for the continuing spiritual support of religions since the dawn of civilization and the advance of science after the industrial revolution, man would have been relegated to just another ordinary species.
But then, the question is, "How long can man hold on?"
