I couldn't put it down...I received it as a gift from a friend and fellow consultant. You have nailed the challenge, precisely and relevantly. I have translated the book to apply it to my work, Healthcare (largely hospital) marketing...and while Revolution Health goes a long way towards all you recommend, we providers need to run, not walk, to keep pace. Transparency driven by third parties who take our data and compare it to others, coupled with a more knowledgable and demanding purchaser (aging boomers), followed by a growing number of wired new users (who's having babies and raising young families..)...the tools and ideas you generate are EXACTLY what we need to consider as we try to reach these key audiences.

Thanks for the exercise!!!!

This is really the textbook for marketing now.

This book was a good read. It did not set my world on fire because over the past year or so I've been reading quite a few marketing books on how to incorporate blogs, comment sites, and social networks into the marketing plan of a business plan. In a way, it's just another of the many books that are flooding the book market regarding Internet marketing.

The book is sweet, though. It's pretty to look at. It's well outlined and well written. And, oh, the pictures of the author I have spotted on her Amazon profile, LinkedIn profile, and her book's own Web site and blog indicate she is a knockout appearance-wise. The best parts of this book in my humble opinion are the real-world examples about how to open meaningful interactions with potential customers.

The book points out well that traditional marketing involved the following approach: static, publish, inform, link, sell, and control. And now the marketing or Internet marketing approach involves live, interact, engage, tag, socialize, and collaborate. The new approach seems to take much more time from the marketer's perspective than the old approach. But the new approach costs so much less than the old approach. And the new approach is proving to be so much more effective.

The target audience for this book supposedly is marketers, communications experts, CEOs, and business owners. I highly recommend each of these people get a copy of this book to either learn something about Internet marketing done the right way, or to reinformce what they already know (or think they know) about Internet marketing. 5 stars!

"Defending the Brand" is the definitive work in the field of protecting your brand presence on the Internet. I have read several books on Internet Security, site hijacking, and other problems of the Internet and even hold a security certification. I am not aware of any other book on the market today that explains so well the problems of malicious hackers and pranksters and how quickly they can destroy your brand name. The book is full of example after example of real-life problems that others have faced and solid advice on how to handle each of the various situations. Of course, it also has sound, positive steps you can take to help protect your brand from problems to begin with. Author Brian Murray doesn't give basic advice that is supposed to fit every situation but helps the reader to determine what factors make a situation warrant action, which ones are better off left alone, which ones might require legal action, and which ones trying to get a legal letter so they can further defame your brand name. Every business with an Internet presence should have a copy of this book. Using the Internet it is now possible to lose many years of positive customer relations in a matter of just a few days. You are responsible for knowing how to protect your company and yourself and this book will open your eyes.

Our company has been the victim of phishing attacks and it has been hard finding books that can help. Def the Brand was recommended to me by a friend and it has been very useful for some aspects. Defending the brand is not only valuable for marketing and legal professionals but I would call it a must read for security professionals given the changes in what we are dealing with. The book does a good job covering the different ways that other people on the Internet can use/abuse your corporate identity.

Wow, this book provides a tremendous amount of insite into the world of online brand management. New technology has created a new set of issues for brand managers and IP counsel. Ten years ago cybersquating, meta tag abuse and typo-piracy certainly weren't in my vocablulary. This is very informative book from someone who is very knowledgeable of what is going on in the online area......

Mr. Murray has changed my strategy on protecting our image and reputation in the marketplace. I knew that we had to closely monitor the use and licensing of our brand in the off-line world but this book opened my eyes to the on-line marketplace. There is nothing more valuable than our companies reputation and as a result of the great examples given, I've changed the way our digital marketing group operates with the Internet. Thanks Brian for this valuable contribution to preserving our shareholders investment.

Fascinating look at new threats to branding
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2005-10-03
Just a decade ago, defending your brand essentially meant ensuring that sidewalk vendors weren't hawking knockoffs of your goods. That has changed drastically with the explosive growth of the Internet, which has revolutionized retailing, but has also made it easier for thieves to hawk counterfeit product.

Leading brands are finding the Internet to be a perfect vehicle for reaching out to their existing customers and finding new customers. The flip side is that for every Internet marketing method there exists a nefarious online activity that exploits the power and goodwill of established brands. For example, rumors and fictitious product information can hurt companies' brands.

Never before have companies faced such a siege on their intellectual property and brands, so the publication of Defending the Brand is timely. In a fascinating depiction of today's threats, the book explains in lay terms how an organization can develop a strategy to fight brand thieves.

The eleven chapters are replete with real-world examples of how companies such as Home Depot and Disney have struggled to protect their brands online. The author furnishes effective advice on how companies can better deal with situations ranging from digital brand abuse to illegal distribution. At 250 pages, Defending the Brand is a quick and fascinating read.

Best reference for selling on eBay

Review Date: 2008-03-23
This book not only is a great introduction to eBay, it's the best reference book to selling on eBay I've seen because of the extensive glossary, index and guide to those odd acronymns. It's also a realistic guide to selling -- no rose-colored classes. There are not too many illustrations in here but the ones there are a big help. This book is a keeper, I'm going to keep it within arm's reach. From the books I've seen, this one is the most up-to-date also.

I started selling at eBay in 1995 when there were just 1200 items for sale and only two categories. And I thought I knew everything. Ha! Steve Weber's book has everything. And as a past teacher trainer at Ohio State University and other institutions I can say that Steve wrote this book in the perfect style--large type, space between words and lines, and easy-to-read pictures of eBay screens.

My only advice to the reader is to realize that selling at eBay gets harder and harder as the years pass. Steve makes eBay selling sound like a sure bet. Believe me, it isn't. Of course, he is so much more successful at it than I ever was. Hmmm-I think I'll go back and read the book again and take notes.--Sam Yulish, author of "Where Have All the Hippies Gone?" and many publications for teachers.

Another Steve Weber How-To Book

Review Date: 2008-02-25
This book is the third Steve Weber book I have read, the first two being "The Home-Based Bookstore" and "Plug Your Book." I was quite enthusiastic about both of Steve's earlier efforts because they were extremely helpful and Steve wrote both well. Those comments apply to this book also.

The marvelous thing about this book is that it starts with the basics and works up to advanced techniques and clever strategies. When I say basics, I mean the kind of information that someone new to eBay would find helpful. What do certain words mean? How do I, and fill in the blank. Steve covers everything you can think of as a newcomer to eBay. Yet, Steve moves quickly and someone going from occasional seller to wondering about setting up a business can move past the basics easily.

What more is there to learn? Steve provides great advice on where to find more stuff for your eBay business. He also provides guidance for evaluating quality and describing your merchandise. All this advice keeps in mind the need to satisfy customers so that they will give you positive feedback and keep coming back.

Just like those popular television commercials, this is the point where I say, but wait, there is more! Steve discusses how to track stock and where it is located. He reviews several software options to handle an expanding enterprise. Included in his advice are options for the most cost effective method of shipping. Steve then provides a lot of detail on how you can expand your customer base through various techniques for advertising your business. I think there are at least half a dozen techniques for getting your business exposed on the internet, including how to fare well with Google searches.

I am touching on just a few of the numerous topics in the fifteen chapters in this book. There are at least 140 sub-headings in this book covering more topics than I had considered when thinking about selling on eBay. With all this powerful information, Steve did something more amazing; he included input from others. [...]

As with any purchase you make, what you want to know is whether this book is worth buying. If you fancy yourself expanding into eBay as a business, or expanding a current eBay business, or you just want to know how eBay works, then this book is worth far more than its price.

One thing I always notice about self-published books is how well they are written. I was unable to find a single grammar error in this book. Therefore, not only is this book full of valuable information, but that information is nicely organized and reading about that information is a pleasure.

Self-help books often seem like they need help themselves. I have read many self-help books by people claiming to be experts in their particular field of endeavor. When you read these books, you quickly realize that the book babbles on about trivialities or the organization is poor. Worse, some of these books have errors that even a novice recognizes. To find a well-written self-help book by an author who has successfully used the techniques in that book is always a wonder. "eBay 101" is such a book.

Enjoy!

Note: The author provided me with a review copy of this book.

If there was one book I would suggest to anyone venturing into the waters of eBay, it'd end up being this one... eBay: The Missing Manual by Nancy Conner. This one covers it all.

Contents:
Part 1 - Buying on eBay: Ready, Set, Shop!; Bidding, Paying, and Following Up; Finding - and Getting - Bargains; Power Buying Strategies
Part 2 - Selling on eBay: Sell Stuff, Make Money; Honing Your Competitive Edge; Going from Hobby to Business; Specialty Selling; Cool Tools for Sellers
Part 3 - Finding Other eBayers and Getting Help; Finding Help
Part 4 - Appendixes: Where to Learn More; HTML for eBayers; Other Auction Sites; Index

Like all other eBay books, this one covers how to buy and sell on eBay. The writing's good, but there'd be nothing special if it stopped there. Where this book earns its keep is when it goes into areas I haven't seen covered in any other book. I've never seen a book go into any detail on other resources to learn about eBay, such as call-in internet radio shows and newsletters. I've never seen a book cover HTML in a small number of pages in order to allow the seller to create better auction pages. There's good coverage on third-party sites that give you more information on how to best price your auctions. There's even material on how to evolve from buying and selling as a hobby to running a business based on eBay. Package all this up with clear writing and numerous screen shots, and you really *have* found the missing eBay manual.

To paraphrase eBay's latest ad campaign... "Whatever you're looking for, you'll find *it* in eBay: The Missing Manual"...

Best Business Book For Small Business
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-03
Most contemporary business books should be in the humor genre as far as small business owners are concerned. Not Get Content Get Customers, this slim book deserves your roughest treatment. Mark it up, dog ear it, spill coffee on it, and tear through it. If there was one book you could keep out of your competitors' hands, this would be the one.
With traditional media becoming less effective, and almost all our new clients telling us they looked at our Website (HopeHealth.com) before calling us -- it was time to re-think our marketing from top to bottom. Get Content Get Customers is a step-by-step "get er done" guide to making your business visible to anyone who may be interested enough to search for your ilk.
Once the rules of the road are established, the case studies are invaluable. No theories here. It's all real world, tested advice. It's clear Pulizzi and Barrett, the authors, believe in Content Marketing because the subject matter is delivered with passion, and makes for an interesting and "relevant" read.
This advice is easy-to-follow, and easy to implement. Garden variety websites, enhanced with free downloadable software are all you need. Then only your creativity is the limit to how effective your content marketing will be. Highly recommended!

"Get Content. Get Customers." is well thought out, easy to read and highly relevant. While the title might lead one to believe that it's all about the web, the book effectively ties together all elements of modern-day marketing and links them to the spinal column of the internet.

I am amazed that in a field changing as quickly as modern marketing that the authors have been able to get much information into the book that is this timely. I found easy to follow-constructs, timely examples and dozens of items which will lead me to do additional research and continue learning.

Content Marketing works!

We had the opportunity to watch firsthand how content marketing benefitted our organization, The Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce. The book's co-author, Newt Barrett, worked with us to make significant improvements in our print and online publications. The book does a great job of telling our story and that of many organizations who are putting content marketing to work successfully.

We now have a monthly magazine, Business Currents that generates great readership and great revenue--3X as much as our old Chamber publication. Our website is getting 6X as many visitors as it did before its transformation into a content-rich online home for The Chamber.

Just as the book describes, everything came down to understanding what issues are most important to our target audience--the regional business community--and delivering relevant and valuable content consistently, month in and month out. Content marketing has benefitted our members, our community, and our organization. Content marketing really works. Our organization is living proof.

I'm familiar with Barrett and Pulizzi from their blogs. And I'm a true believer in content marketing. So when I heard they had a book coming out, I was first in line to buy it. I was eager to see what kind of content they were going to deliver, and they've lived up to my expectations.

'Get Content. Get Customers.' goes well beyond the information available in their blogs, on their websites and in their print articles. These guys are high caliber professional writers and it shows. The book is a great read, but it's much more than that.

I had pens, highlighters, and those sticky page markers at hand while I read. I highlighted passages, wrote notes in the margins, and transcribed business ideas into a notebook. It reminded me of college, only I don't remember ever being as jazzed about my studies as I was devouring this book.

Barrett and Pulizzi went well beyond an academic treatise of what "content marketing" is. They took the Harvard Business School approach and told the stories of 15 different companies and how they leveraged content marketing for business success. You get all the hows and whys. The stories are fun to read and, like every well told story, they're memorable.

This book should be required reading in every business school in the country. It explains a fundamental shift in the way products and services are sold, and every person in business needs to understand it.

It belongs on every professional marketer's bookshelf - well-thumbed through and dog-eared.

I have just finished reading Dr. Scott Simon Fehr's Introduction to Group Therapy: A practical guide (2nd.Ed.)and was amazed on how much I enjoyed a text book. This book was given to me for a birthday present and even though I am a psychologist, I thought, "Why would someone give me a text book for my birthday?" After all I have been out of school for years but truly I am delighted this person did. This book was beautifully written with an engaging style that is seen in few text books and part of the engagement is due to Dr. Fehr putting himself out there and talking about his personal experiences running groups. It too is a funny book. I roar when I read his first group experience in a state psychiatric facility. Simply because I could identify and it brought back a flood of memories. Well done, Dr. Fehr

Every once in awhile, a book comes along in our field that sheds new light on an important topic in a clear, understandable manner without diluting the information. Dr. Fehr's practical guide to group is one such example. He has provided something for everyone, from the beginning group therapist to the experienced clinician. His real life vignettes highlight technical aspects of conducting group therapy, provide the reader with often poignant, sometimes funny, and highly illustrative examples of various group phenomena, and bring to life what too often in our field is dryly presented. Dr. Fehr's communiction style challenges us, makes us laugh, take pause, reflect, and ultimately come away feeling revitalized in our work with groups. His review of the history of group therapy is the most compelling I have ever read. A must read for graduate students and senior group therapists alike.

We began using this text this fall and have been very impressed with the quality of the anataomy sections and the radiographs are all excellent. The color makes it much easier to learn radiography. It is also very comprehensive. Students can learn many projections and not just the basics. We especially like the Mobile chapter which is very practical and accurate in its approach. The Workbook by Hayes which accompanies the Atlas is also excellent. We can use the 3-volumes for 7 different courses in our school and that makes this text a bargain overall. Our students also began using the accompanying Pocket Guide which they much prefer over the one they were using previously because of the AEC write-in ability. This whole package is excellent for radiography students.

It is easy to see why this textbook has made it to its 50th anniversary edition. The authors have introduced all the latest techniques, including computed radiography. The color throughout is wonderful. This is not only a great student textbook, but a great book for reference purposes. We continue to use this book for 5 different courses in our program and we continue to love it. Thanks for the color !

This is one of the most important books I've read this year on marketing, its full of truth and not a lot of fluff. I would recommend this book to all my friends in network marketing.

I have high expectations for this book based on the first 10 pages. The introductory sections have some of the funniest stuff I've ever seen in a business book. Plus, it's the first time that I've seen an author make an open appeal for Amazon reviews--a move that drips with savvy and is an especially good sign given the topic.

I've already gained a new catch phrase: "Screw that! Let's see you do any better!" (page 6)

I'll be back with another review ...

Finally, Someone was direct and to the point!

"Mommy, Where Do Customers Come From?" was a fun and easy read! I run both and online and "offline" business and I certainly picked up a lot of nuggets that can be applied to both. Author, Larry Bailin was certainly direct and to the point.

Websites 101 for Business

Read this book before you develop a website. Most small businesses lack the finances to hire a true web expert when they first build a website. That's ok if you read this book first. Armed with the knowledge of this book you will be able to go to your web designer and say "This is how I want it" and "No, don't do that" with authority.

Larry rockets through the essential area of website development with short chapters written in an irreverent style. Subjects covered are: website design, web strategy, search engine optimization, website functionality, website analytics, email marketing, and choosing a website programmer. It has the most understandable explanation on how search engines work that I have ever read. Everything is written on a non-technical level so that you can understand the concepts.

Larry writes that he hopes you find at least one practical solution in reading this book. In truth you will take away several. You will have several "aha' moments. If you already have a website, you will read something and say..."I need to get that fixed."

The only thing lacking from this book is a little more depth. Larry gives you a great surface overview and several useful ideas. But because the book is written concisely it's a little short on what to do next. Maybe that can be Larry's next book.

I highly recommend this book for small business owners getting ready to develop a website. Read this book before you spend the money on a website. If you already have one, read this book so you know what you need to go back and fix.

Wonderfully organized and extremely useful content. I am using it as a class text to instruct parents at my church who want to know how to deal with social networks effectively with their teens. The author even provides a link to a custom MySpace page, where parents can look up the latest tips and additional information to make the most of their learning. As an IT professional with over 20 years of experience and uncle to two teens, I cannot stress enough the importance and value of this book to help parents and teens navigate through some of the perils and reap some of the benefits of cyberculture.

A MUST READ for parents of teens!!!

It's been a see-saw for me, "Let my 15-year-old have a MySpace/not..." But Mrs. Neal makes some really valid points for letting her have one, with my supervision of course! She spells out for even the most dense among us about how to work around MySpace, as well as making a VERY GOOD point about how it helps with their 5 developmental stages they're working through in their teen years on their way to be independent 'adults'. And how it's the 'mall'/phone calls/etc. of yesteryear.

Having made my daughter delete a MySpace once, I honestly had to apologize to her when Mrs. Neal has us (the parent/reader) answer a lot of questions pertaining to "What's your favorite _______ ?" And then in the next paragraph having us pretend she had authority over us and said "Delete it." It isn't like deleting a list, it's like deleting "us"/our identity amoungst our peers. Does that make sense? She says it so much better on page 99.

Anyway, I was glad I heard her on Jim Burns radio show "Homeward", and I was glad I ordered and read the book. I am ordering another copy for a friend of mine with a teen of her own.

A MUST read for all parents of teens and preteens!!

GREAT book. VERY helpful. I have a 16 year old son who has a myspace. I have had one(A my space) since he has, insisting that I be a "friend" for monitoring purposes. Was I ever glad to find this book and know that I am NOT a lone ranger! I tell everyone about this book. NO parent should allow their kid on My Space without having a space of their own and really understanding what it is all about.

This book will help even the most computer illiterate parent navigate and understand My Space. You will be AMAZED at what you will discover about your teen and their world by exploring their My Space with them, as suggested.

I LOVED the insight into teens today..why the internet is so important to them. Lets face it, parents, the world has changed since we were teens! Dont be left in the dark...Connie has done the work for you. If you can read, you can navigate AND understand My Space! Get a copy today and enter your teens world!

The book is a good guide to technical aspects of myspace but really intends to remind parents to be knowledgeable of, and involved in, their children's lives. The contemporary reality is that myspace is often a significant part of a child's socialization and needs to be taken seriously. The book is straightforward, practical and broken down into sections. It can be used as either a cover-to-cover narrative or as a reference book. Good organization, abundant charts and graphics, and a large type font make it exceptionally user friendly. A good read.

Must Read for Parents

Perhaps it's inconceivable only to me, but, somehow, I've found myself the parent of a teenager this past year. And right on cue, my son is asking for all of the adolescent accessories--email accounts, a cell phone, and a TV and Internet access in his bedroom. I've conceded on the email account but the rest will have to wait. A teen should come with a Surgeon General's Warning. "Caution: Raising a teen may result in sleepless nights and increased anxiety levels."

If you're the parent of a teen, you owe it to yourself to introduce yourself to Connie Neal. Connie is an author and speaker who specialty is understanding "the intersection of parenting and pop culture." Connie is the deep breath that every parent needs to take before hyperventilating over all the challenge of raising godly children in the American culture.

Connie's latest book, MYSPACE FOR MOMS AND DADS, is designed to help busy parents understand the Internet phenomena known as social networking. "Social Networking" is using home computers and the Internet to connect with peer and to make new friendships. Some of the more popular social networking websites include Myspace and Facebook. Parents might be aware and wary of social networking due to a rash recent news stories that detail how sexual predators have used Myspace to connect with teens and lure them into face-to-face meetings.

Connie uses her calming logic and sanity to calm parents and to give them the tools they need to navigate this new world of social networking. Connie defuses the emotional charge surrounding social networking with her methodical treatment of the book. Part One explains what the history of social networking. Part Two walks as parent through the mechanics of setting up a "Myspace" account. In Part Three, Connie explains the draw of Myspace on teenagers. Teens use social networking to meet God-given developmental needs. Connie helps you connect with your teens' needs by reminding you of their basic relational needs to connect and to express themselves. Finally, Connie offers a Christian framework to Christian parents decide if Myspace is right for their teens.

One of the most valuable features of the book is a section that trains parents how to customize the Myspace profile to reduce the risk of teens encountering unsafe people or on-line "friends" with unchristian values. Parents will also be equipped with the proper questions to ask their teens to help monitor their healthy use of Myspace.

Readers familiar with Connie Neal's writing know that she is biased toward engaging culture and for using cultural trends to train discerning teenagers. Connie's "Walking Talk in Babylon" is her manifesto calling parents to train children capable of interpreting and discerning the cultural messages that surround them. Don't expect to hear a simplistic "Myspace is good" or "Myspace is evil" from Connie. Instead, she'll give you the information you'll need to engage your teenager regarding this important issue.

After reading MYSPACE FOR MOMS AND DADS, I'm not ready to give my teen permission to join for now. However, this will be a valuable guide to refer to when my oldest is a bit older and wiser

The 17th edition of the Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics is available now. I have seen it on the publisher's website. This textbook is one of the main physician-level educational sources for pediatrics, and I highly recommend it for the personal libraries of all medical professionals as well as those in training. No matter what your field, there will always be the potential that you will become responsible for caring for a child. However, it is usually best to find the latest edition for any textbook.

THis is THE textbook of pediatrics. I own Rudolphs and Oski's as well. This is the book to buy (or read if you have MDconsult). It has the best diagrams, graphs, authors, and is the easiest to read. Don't waste your time with the minibooks such as currents or the mini Nelson's. Just read this one. You'll be glad.

When I was on my PA Peds rotation, I often consulted this great reference in the medical library. Now, that I have my own book, I know its value. There is no other Pediatrics book out there that is better than this one. Don't waste your money on less expensive books like Current Pediatrics which doesn't cover half as many topics as Nelson. Also, for a great little pocket books, try Harriet Lane and Current Clinical Strategies Pediatrics 5 Minute Review.
