I bought this book when I was in the manuscript stage of my first book. I found this book to be a very educational one as
I liked to write, but had no idea how to publish. This book is a very useful read and has much information in it that I refer
to often. I now have my book on Amazon in Kindle format and coming soon in paperback thanks to this information. Bravo to
the author. Great job!

This book is compiled from postings and writings on the Desktop Publishing Forum on Compuserve back in the late 1980s. While
it's out of date and out of print now, the solid information in it on typography, composition, and design make it worth trying
to find a used copy from one of ...out-of-print sources. Don Arnoldy, Brad Walrod, and Thom Hartmann did a brilliant job
with this book!

Fascinating tale of the truth gleaned from the lies
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

Review Date: 2008-08-27
The most shocking aspect to this true-life tale is that Will Jordan has absolutely no remorse, compassion, or guilt - his
lies were clearly so beguiling because no sane person would ever suspect anyone would go to such unbelievable lengths of sustained
deception. Read this book then tell everyone you know about what happened to these women (for there are multiple victims of
this crime and Mary TT tells more than her own story) and send them out to buy it, for the reader recognises that no one is
immune to the workings of a sociopath. I was fortunate enough to meet the author recently, and thankfully she has emerged
from what she describes as the prison this man kept her in and is rebuilding her life. She is a confident, witty and intelligent
woman and one of the best things to come from this brutal experience is that telling the stories that had been previously
kept hidden has led to her new career and her talent is now being harnessed as a writer. Looking forward to the next book
Mary.

Story of a hero

Appelfeld 's story is an incredible and moving one. Orphaned from his mother at the age of eight, and imprisoned by the Nazis
he escaped and survived in hiding for three years. He tells the story of these years in his short but powerful autobiographical
volume , "Story of a Life".
After the war he made a new life in Israel where he became a celebrated author. His path to this was not slow or easy. He is an Israeli writer who writes in Hebrew but his works are not about Israeli society. They are most often about the European world he came from, with special focus on the periods before the Holocaust.

One of our finest biographers

Atlas is one of America's finest biographers. His pioneering work on the life of Delmore Schwartz was followed by his exhaustively
researched work on Saul Bellow. This book took Atlas eleven years, and in the course of it a bit of his friendship with Bellow
as Atlas insisted on telling the truth about Bellow's complex personal life. Atlas also has written a memoir " Life in the
Middle Ages" in which he talks about his childhood, his parents , and above all about the complexities of being 'middle- aged'
and responsible in America of today. The Chicago- bred author long - worked for the NY Times, has been an editor of a major
biography series but his first professional credential is again that he is an outstanding biographer.

One of the finest of living novelists

Paul Auster is I believe one of the finest of the novelists writing today. He is an incredible storyteller with a capacity
for creating remarkably interesting characters. He is serious, intellectual and cultured and his work has characters who seem
to touch on all aspects of life. He is a very good sense of the nitty- gritty of American everyday life. The dialogue in his
work is sharp and surprising. And in fact the capacity of surprise in his storytelling, is as good as anyone I know.
But Auster is too a dark writer whose characters often engage in or are more likely victims of terrible violence. Auster's whole philosophy of life seems to make much of chance and unpredictability. He has spoken of characters searching for themselves and never really solving the mystery of themselves. Life as Auster presents it is unpredictable, and often for that reason chaotic and disastrous. Yet he has a strong sense of life's pleasures and can write beautifully of Love and human relations. He also explores in his work the meanings of Reading , and his characters often have books on their minds and in their hearts. Auster who started as a poet managed to do something many poets cannot , convert his writing into a strongly narrative prose. Often with Auster the beginnings of his books and first parts are, as I understand it more interesting than their latter parts and conclusions. Perhaps because I am a sentimental soul I am distressed when I read of how sympathetic characters in Auster's work often come to disastrous ends.
Stable long- term relationships are not what Auster's work is about. The family and the world are broken from beginning, with the father often absent. Auster is again a tremendously readable writer who knows how to push the reader forward out of deepest curiosity as to what will happen next.
I sense perhaps wrongly an underlying gloom which somehow sets the deeper tone of the work.
I recommend his work highly though my own world- view and way of seeing things especially in religious terms( Auster is the most secular writer imaginable) are completely opposite of his.

I would love to pay for and download this digital document, but when I get to the Payment page the form asks what State I
am in, and only offers American States as options. Since I am in Australia it will not let me proceed with the transaction.
This seems fairly useless to me.

I would just like to add one opinion about a book of Charles Einstein who passed away on March 2007.. His book "The Only Game
in Town" is the finest inside baseball novel I know. It tells of a pennant- race in the minor leagues, and has a whole cast
of credible and interesting characters. His ear and feel for the language of the game is outstanding.
Einstein was a major baseball - scholar. This little book is I believe a lasting achievement.

Halkin is one of the finest of all translators from English to Hebrew. He is the major translator of A.B. Yehoshua. He also
is a writer of distinction on a wide range of subjects. His major work is defense of his decision to make his life in Israel.
He has also written a book on the search for the 'lost ten tribes' on the crypto- Jews of East Asia. He is a journalist and
major political commentator, whose line is strongly realistic and pro- Israel. He is also a major expert on Hebrew and Jewish
literature.
