I really enjoyed reading this book. It covered important details regarding Active Directory Design, Network Infrastructure design, fault tolerance and disaster recovery and user management issues. The book was put together very nicely, and was actually enjoyable to read, which isn't something I had expected from a book of this type.

This book is a definite 5 and should help you in your network roll-outs and for your Win2k Design electives as well.

A must read for IT Professionals.

In the author's own words "this is not meant to be light bedtime reading, but an exploration of the more technical issues of Windows 2000 Server." If you already have a good grasp of basic Windows 2000 Server Administration and want to move up to the next level, start here. There are plenty of walkthroughs, best practices, and real world advice that goes far beyond the "marketing hype" that can be found in much of Microsoft's documentation. The author strikes a good balance between providing excellent technical depth without getting bogged down by it.

The listings in this book are Mobil rated which means not only could we find places which accept pets, but they are nice for us humans as well! Best of all, Andrea Arden offers some great advice on teaching your pet to enjoy travel. The resource guides (especially on places to visit with your pet) are an added bonus.

Wonderful Flashback To The Good Old Days

I found this book virtually by accident and, when it arrived, instantly neglected everything else for several hours as I dipped and flipped through its delightful pages. This book is a thorough history of all the movie theatres that ever were in Baltimore and, since I grew up there and spent (or misspent) most of my youth in seeing nearly every film that came to town, this was a wonderful wallow in nostalgia as well as an education of the "Gee, I didn't know that" variety. As the book's unfortunately dry title implies, it traces the history of motion picture exhibition in Charm City from 1895 to 2004. The first part of the book is an era-by-era general history. But the second, and more fascinating, part gives a description and history of each individual theatre from the lowly Howard to the mighty Stanley. Arranged alphabetically, it was easy to look up my old favorites and, along the way, find others that I once knew but had totally forgotten about.

It has been more than twenty years since I left Baltimore so I was surprised and a tad shocked to discover how many theatres - both neighborhood and downtown first-runs - no longer exist. There are a number of nice black and photos (of course, in a book like this, there are never enough photos) and information on the architecture and size and seating capacity, as well as the highlights of each theatre's existence. Some entries are, understandably, more detailed than others. If I were to nitpick, it would be to say that the writing style is sometimes a bit too academic. There are occasional anecdotes that give the book a more personal touch and more of these would have been welcome. I certainly re-discovered a wealth of fond memories that were brought back while paging through the book. I expect it will be a book that I will be frequently picking up for a casual browse that will turn into a more extended re-read.

Of course, because I am from Baltimore and knew many of the theatres from personal experience, I find the book fascinating. How much interest there will be for non-Baltimoreans is hard to say. The history of movies theatres in Baltimore is probably similar to that in most large American cities. But, for myself, I am grateful to Robert Headley for all his research, hard work, and obvious love for the subject. It almost makes me want to book a flight back to Baltimore just so I can spend another enchanted evening in the magical darkness of the Senator.

Wow! I just received my copy of the guide in the mail from, yes, amazon.com, and I think it's a terrific resource. It will be of use to me and my students as i work with them to gain admission to America's top colleges. A college admissions officer told me Mitchell's guide was a great resource for her, and i can tell already it will be a great resource for me as well

This book is very important for minority students. Unfortunately, it is now 2006 and this version was published in 1996. Minority students need to know about colleges and how they can be accepted on campus. They also need to know the groups on a college campus in which they can seek support and help when needed. I hope that a new version comes out at some point so minority students have somewhere to turn.

As a novice, I was looking for some information on how to tap into the new internet music technology. This book gave me the answers in simple and interesting language. I was able, without a technical background to log onto the net and find many more music sites than I ever thought possible. I have used Dummies books before and found them very useful. This book is no exception. I am also familiar with the author becuae I have been reading his articles in the Circuits section of The New York Times...He is very knowledgeable and readable.

Treasure Trove of Job Search Resources

Review Date: 1998-10-27
I never knew that my phone could be such a powerful tool for finding job vacancies, even for the middle management positions I'm seeking. This book is a little different. It doesn't tout job hotlines as the only way to find a job. And it tells you how to make job hotlines part of what the authors call a "savvy, balanced job search."

There are over 6,500 job hotlines here, listed by state and by industry within each state (or Canadian province). Also included are toll-free job hotlines. Best of all, the book is really free because there are coupons for over $90 in discounts on some really neat job search resources. And the book has a sly sense of humor too.

The Native American Indian Artist Directory

AMAZING, UP-TO-DATE RESOURCE
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 1999-05-01
The Native American Indian Artist Directory is simply terrific. I have used it to find several artists and what a wonderful experience. To be able to speak with the artist directly and arrange to meet with them personally has provided experiences that will be remembered for a lifetime.

The book itself has chapters on various pueblo and tribal groups with a brief overview of each group. Several artists are mentioned in this section along with general directions to get to the area. Sometimes special events are mentioned and ideas about visiting are offered.

The idea of being able to contact a Native artist directly, without having to go through a gallery or trading post, offers you a chance to get to know the artist on a personal level. When you buy your art or craftwork you can ask specific questions about the meaning of certain symbols or of the work itself. The artist can also tell you about his technique, his motivation, his interests, etc. As the book says, you have a chance to make a friend for a lifetime. And, if you're lucky, you may arrive at just the right time to have some excellent frybread, horno bread, or other wonderful native food. Overall, a great opportunity!

The book is well indexed, with all artists listed alphabetically in the back, by name and tribal affiliation. It was very current, but I understand that you may find some artists have moved, changed phone numbers or added e-mail or web sites that may not be in the book.

THE ONE BOOK EVERYONE INTERESTED IN INDIAN CULTURE NEEDS!

Review Date: 1999-05-04
This directory has everything you need to find the Indian artist you're looking for. It's extremely useful, lising artists in alphabetical order in the index and grouped together by tribal affiliation in the book chapters. If you're thinking about buying Indian art of any kind you NEED this book. Whether it's Indian jewelry, pottery, paintings, baskets, rugs, kachinas, fetishes, masks or any number of hand-made Native American items you're looking for - someone who makes them is in this book. It is the only directory I've found anywhere that lists this many artists and provides mailing addresses, phone numbers and even e-mail and web sites for some. It is current - the numbers I called were correct and up-to-date!

There is also some information about various tribal groups and a few helpful hints about buying Native art.

And the price makes it a real bargain. This book should more than pay for itself with your first purchase.
