I am not even in the music business. I purchased this book to support Jawar and to the book give to someone else who needed it. Not only did I get stuck reading the book and jotting down information and contacts that I may need later, but the person I gave the book to loved it. It is full of music resources, contacts, links, referals, etc... I am glad I purchased this book. I am now online at amazon.com getting ready to purchase another one for my mother. Ho-tep, Jawar!

*The* book on earning a high school diploma!

I'm sure that there must be other books out there that detail all of the ways to earn a high school diploma, but I haven't found them yet.

I am a high school guidance counselor. It's vital that not only do I get our students from Point A to Point B, but that I understand the many different routes between the two points.

Bears' Guide to Earning High School Diplomas Nontraditionally covers many areas including GED, high school proficiency exams, online and independent study schools, homeschooling, and many other possibilities.

It's worth the price, and then some!

You'd think that by now somebody would have done a catalog of the various nontraditional approaches you can use to earn a high school diploma--homeschooling, the GED exam, charter schools, online high schools, and on and on--but such is not the case. This is the first, last, and only book on the subject ever written, and it covers everything you'll need to know. If you need a high school diploma but can't go back to high school, or would like to attend a special kind of high school that better fits your personal interests and needs, then this is your book.

Bears' Guide to Earning High School Diplomas Nontraditionally (2003) by Thomas Nixon blows the lid off of the usual, mundane method of getting a high school diploma. This book is a remedy for all of the square pegs that don't fit into the round holes of traditional public and private high school programs. What a great resource! I will be recommending this book to parents and teens frequently.

Shirley's a colleague and friend (disclaimer), but her new work via ALA is a much-needed cut-to-the-answers handbook for busy researchers, librarians, and information professionals. Kudos for the spirit of humor and yep-been-there tales that lace the solid tips and site information with her personal style and elan. I'll keep my copy right beside my autographed copy of Reva Basch's "Secrets of the Super Net Searchers." For serious Internet searching today, this is the guidebook to cyberspace.

As reference librarian at the North Dade branch of the Miami-Dade system, I have found this superior and more up to date than the mass produced guides found everywhere these days including the supermarket. Our two week old copy is already thumbworn as we keep it by our copies of the terminals for patron reference. I think we may order another one and hide for staff use only! Good job Ms. Kennedy...just keep updating the book!

As an instructor of Internet research to audiences at all levels, I appreciate the direct, no-nonsense, and humorous approach Kennedy takes. The author manages to demystify a subject that intimidates many, even some librarians, who would benefit from reading this book themselves before they check it out to their patrons.

A must for anyone camping in TN

Review Date: 2006-05-11
This book is excellent. The author lives in East Tennessee and has spent untold hours in the woods of this state. His detailed account of each campsite is a wonderful resource for those wanting to go camping away from it all. He details many sites which I would not have known exist if I hadn't bought this book. The layout of is great, with a 1-5 star rating of each campsite's privacy, spaciousness, quiet, security, and beauty. Also included is a (semi) detailed map of the campsite itself.
I like his candid writing: he is not afraid of PC, and so if he likes or dislikes a site, he will come right out and say it, even indicating which sites are his personal favorites in the book.
I own one more of his books, and any time I camp in another state, this will be the first authority I check, because of his ability to steer you in the direction of nature and not just some commercial campsite.

As an avid camper, although one who seems to have less and less time to camp the older I get, I often buy guidebooks to steer me in the direction of destinations I may find interesting. Usually I am disappointed, either by the format of the book, the accuracy of details, or the quantity of info. Molloy has surpassed my expectations. The book is user friendly, accurate in detail (I've been to many of the sites reviewed, and now plan to go to many others with this as my guide), and the quantity of sites reviewed will fill many many trips. It would be very easy to plan an entire trip using nothing but this gem. Way to go Molloy, I'll definitely check out your other guides in the future.

Just what I was looking for! I live in Middle Tennessee and was surprised at the tent camping places in my own backyard that I didn't even know about. The easy directions and important information like camping rates, opening and closing times, and a detailing of all the fun activities at each campground, really make life easier. I have been looking for fun tent camping with my child that's close to home and this really helped me to narrow my options. I can't wait to get camping! Molloy did the leg work, now I get to have the fun! Mr. Molloy, you are my camping guru!

As a private college counselor I find the Big Book of Colleges to be a valuable tool. It is up to date, insightful and honest information from the very students who live at that college. Even though I supply my office with the guides, my clients end up going out and purchasing them so they can share the information with family and friends. What a "fun" way to learn and discover more even before you visit!

WARNING: this is not your typical college guide book! And, when it is written by students for students, that's a good thing. While there's no doubt that college-searching students need a guidebook with facts, figures and statistics, a book that puts "flesh on the bones" of a potential college experience is equally important. This is the prospective college student's anecdotal guidebook on subjects: such as "Nightlife, Greek Life, Guys, Girls, and Drug Scene". Basics are also included, but what the students will sit around to read and discuss are the four or five quotes on various topics including "Academics, Local Atmosphere, Safety and Security", etc. It is the quotes by each college's current students that give this one-of-a-kind guidebook its power. My students Love this book.

College Prowler's Big Book of Colleges is a great read! I can't imaging any student applying to college without reading the well-balanced description of each college. The fact that the insights shared reflect the thinking of the current student body and that the descriptions are so well organized makes the book a MUST-READ!

I'm a little disappointed that they didn't cover some of the smaller schools in my area but the book does cover 280 schools and had every school that I'm seriously considering.

For each college, the book has interesting facts and figures, best/worst lists, and student opinions and quotes on what its like to go there.

If you're only looking at small local schools or community colleges, don't buy the book. Otherwise I think its very helpful.

a great example of a leader in many respects. mostly self-educated, g.w. was wise in so many ways. i am amazed at his character and have enjoyed sharing these with my family. what i like about this book compared to others with similiar info is that the author puts the manners into modern day use, although they are first presented in the old english style which is good for the kids to see and hear. a definite library must!

By George! is a delightful and insightful compilation of George Washington's rules of civility, written when he was only 14 years old. The author does an outstanding job of adapting these basic rules of good conduct, written in the 1740's, to current society. These rules, illustrated by timely stories of people doing the right thing, not only help us understand the high standards George Washington expected of himself and others, they are a timeless treasure trove. In a world torn apart by violence and hatred, this little book teaches us that a little civility can make a big difference in our lives. I highly recommend By George! by Steven M. Selzer.

I was most impressed by the tone of the book. I expected a "stuffy" list of do's and don'ts only to find each of George Washington's rules of civility applied to today's social and business situations with great insight and a touch of humor. I was amazed to learn that the civil behavior we learned from our parents and teachers is based on the same rules of civility that George Washington lived by 250 years ago. Some things are truly timeless. We could all use a refresher course. I highly recommend By George!

A few years ago when I first heard of the phenomenon called "intentional community" I was introduced to the Communities Directory. I found it to be the best single source of information on communities in the US -- and the all new edition is even better. The directory contains information about many aspects of community life in well written articles. It also provides description and contact information for over 700 communities around the world. In addition it lists many community-focused resources and contains an excellent recommended reading list. For anyone interested in finding "their" community, in locating community resources, in doing research -- or simply for the community curious -- this book is a must.

I tried the Microsoft Press, returned it. Tried the Sybex, returned it. Finally found this gem written by Curt Simmons from a publisher (Prentice Hall) not known for their Certification books. This book has all that you need to pass the exam and none of the junk that waste your time. This author has done what Sybex and Microsoft couldn't, write an easy to understand book with the material you need to help you achieve a great passing score in minimal time. I'd give this book a 6 stars if it was possible.

Like to book claims, 'Pass Microsoft's Active directory exam with flying colors!'. This book is well-organized, containing only relevant information that you need. The book is only 300 pages and the content is written in a easy to understand format(short chapters). Curt Simmons knows his exams, he stresses design considerations rather than 'how-to configure the OS' stuff which is not on the exam and justs wastes your time. The 5 case studies included (although not as complex as the real thing) gets you familiar with the format and helps you identify the info that is important for answering the question(s). Also comes with a Training CBT and companion website. I highly recommend this book for preparing for 70-219, if you can find it as availability is scarce.
