Miyazaki keeps up the incredible pace he has established in the previous books in this volume. The illustration is very wonderful and unique, a kind of free-hand hatching style, with a tan and white ink instead of just black and white, which adds a different feel to the storytelling. The story, while complex, stays very focused as we follow several different groups, which weave in and out of each others' experiences, as the overall plot continues to build toward an end-of-the-world type of climax. There is very much a sense of a complete, well-developed larger story here, and the author's love for the characters is obvious in the high quality and level of attention put into this work.

Compelling story AND art.

This is powerful work, deep in its meaning without being condescending. A product of brilliant storytelling and equally excellent art. Highly, highly recommended. It's a shame there isn't a hardcover compendium of all 7 books.

Negima continues with volume 10. Again, at center stage is Mahora Academy's annual celebration, MahoraFest!! This one, though, promises to be one that no one will forget soon. Alot happens in this wild little romp. Negi decides to use the time machine that Chao gave him to go back in time; that way, the other him can go through the festival and make his teacher's rounds, while the time-machine Negi can concentrate on his date with Nodoka- which he's kinda scared about, but not nearly as nervous as Nodoka is!!! Also, the Martial Arts tournament begins with the preliminary rounds, and alot of questions are already being raised. How is the tournament being sponsored solely by Chao- and why wasn't she in any record books til two years ago? Will Negi have the magical strength and determination to make it through the tournament? And just how did Kazumi land the announcer's position? Ken Akamatsu's Negima series just gets better and better with every volume. Good luck, Negi!!!

This is the 10th volume in the ongoing manga series. It is the ongoing tale of Negi Springfield, boy wizard and teacher at a Japanese girl's middle school. This particular volume features the first day of the Mahora Academy Festival. Negi has set too full a schedule for himself, and it seems like he will not be able to fulfill all the commitments he has made, unless he can be in three places at once. Which he can, by a way I won't give away here. He spends several hours on a "date" with Nodoka, the shy girl who is in love with him. It may seem strange for a 13 year old girl to be in love with a 10 year old boy, but he is very mature for his age, and the situation comes off as being very sweet. Oh, she's not the only one of his students who's in love with him, either. Anyway, the last part of the book is about a martial arts tournament, or rather the first round of it. I don't think it's giving away too much to say that Negi gets past the first round, as do many of his students. The tournament will presumably continue in volume 11. This continues to be a delightful series, but there is still the problem of having so many characters, it's hard to keep track of who's who.

Think back to when you were 16. Do you still remember how it was like to worry about stuff that would worry 16 year olds? Compared to Jeremy Feeple's character, I'll bet the problems that worried us all back then would never even come close! I've read Ninja High School since its earliest printings way back in 1990, and instantly fell in love with the story line! It's great to know that the series is still out there! Funny, suspenseful, romantic; all rolled into one great comic series that readers are sure to keep interest in for a long time! A must for all manga fans out there!

This is the first collection of the incredible comic book series, which contains issues #1-3 1/2. The story is awesome, a tale of intergalactic relations, rivalry of ninja clans, a 16 year old boy who is forced into a ridiculous mess against his will, and steam! Manga fans will love it.

We FINALLY get to meet Urd's angel! Don't get me wrong--Holy Bell and Noble Scarlet are beautiful and sweet, but World of Elegance ROCKS! From her split appearance to her fire-breathing power, she is the Angel of Angels. Peorth's Glorious Rose is cool too, but we see so little of her that I can't really make a judgement.

If you saw the movie, you saw how cool World of Elegance is.

As for the other stories...I read the one about Belldandy getting drunk when it was in the monthly comic, so that one was not new to me. And the others were pretty good, but like I said, I read them before too. All except for the one about Urd and her angel.

The art is breathtaking, and the story is original and fun. This is one of my favorite series (Five Star Stories and Real Bout High School being the other two), and anyone who's ever read OMG/AMG knows why I love this series!

I only wish they'd put out the books faster!

Four Tales, One Book

This is volume 15 of the English-translated manga series "Oh My Goddess". Fans of the previous manga won't be dissappointed here. Those new to manga should enjoy the sweet and funny tales of the goddess Belldandy and her human boyfriend (and the one she is contracted to) Keiichi.

There are four seperate stories in this volume of the manga. The first deals with Keiichi's sister Megumi and her racing a motorcycle lady known simply as "The Queen". The second tale deals with Belldandy's older sister Urd and Urd's loss of her angel World of Elegance. BTW, that's Urd and her angel on the book's cover.

The third tale deals with Belldandy getting drunk off of cola and casting a spell which causes her and Keiichi to have to hold hands continually (much to her younger sister Skuld's dismay). And finally, the fourth tale deals with the robot Banpei falling in love with an automoton. Skuld must deal with the fact that her creation has grown beyond his original programming.

Bottom line: Some light-hearted tales with Urd and Skuld growing somewhat. Also, a nice look at the current state of the relationship between Belldandy and Keiichi. There are lots of funny moments making this well worth spending your money on.

Sam Keith has a great talent for creating work that is cathartic, translating tragedy into art. In general I love work that is surreal and dreamy and I always feel that with Sam Keith I'm guaranteed to see work that is eye catching. However, I'm used to surrealism sometimes falling into pretension simply because the artist wasn't able to or didn't want to present themes that were universal. Sam Keith is a master at understanding failure and triumph and his work, which typically gets very personal, displays this successfully. Ojo is just another good example from an artist who is consistently great at what he does.

A fantastic graphic novel

This comic book is one of the best I have ever read. What I thought was going to be another horror comic ended up being much more. Sam Kieth's artistic style matches perfectly with his storytelling, as he mixes reality with his character's psyche seamlessly so the reader can no longer distinguish between the two. A must have for anyone who enjoyed Kieth's other works like the Maxx or Four Women or anyone with a love for the graphic novel in general.

Now I've read the second volume too, and it's still amazing. Here the story really get started. This volume was much more hectic, however, i found the story less detailed, and a little bit weaker, than the previous one. The tone is now more on the actions, but it's still great. Don't hesitate, just buy it.

The Ouran High School Host Club manga, I'm pleased to say, is as wonderful and laugh-out-loud funny as the anime. I'm eagerly collecting the volumes as they are published in English now, and though some storyline details have been changed slightly, I recognize plot lines that were used in anime episodes that I have watched. I love this series. <3 If you like comedy and parodies of cliches and you haven't tried this already, you should!

New Love, Old Problems, Part 8

Review Date: 2006-04-17

Momo and Toji show up at the beginning of school together, and this sparks all sorts of speculation about what is going on between the two of them. Momo is apprehensive about how the student body will handle this new change, but Toji and her decide to take it in strides... and Sae is sick to her stomach. Kiley, on the other hand, couldn't be more vivacious and charismatic, flirting with other women and taking photos with his brand new digital camera.

Momo get confused (again) about her feelings for Kiley when she discovers a photo of her from the first day at school in one of his notebooks... and Misao is finally starting to see a side of Ryo that she is unable to stomach when she sees how cold he is to Sae over her important news... and why is Kiley crying outside of Momo's gate at night...?

The series is almost done, and yet the storyline is heating up better than ever. Sides are clearly being drawn, and the lover's triangles are becoming more and more Bermudic... my gods, if I ever had this kind of drama and emotion over a choice of lovers I think I would throw up my hands in despair. Momo clearly has a hard choice to make, now that Kiley is exhibiting that he is still interested... who will it be to finally win her heart?

Chock full of love and torturous angst makes this manga worth reading.. For shojo fans and manga fans alike. It's definitely not a disappointment.

New Love, Old Problems Part 9
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-04-17

Momo has seen a new side of Kiley that she never thought was possible, and now she doesn't know what to do about her resurfacing feelings. She knows he must have seen her and Toji kissing and that's why he was crying outside of her house, but she doesn't know how to handle it. Meanwhile, next to Sae's problems Momo's problems seem inconsequential. Ryo has acknowledged Sae's pregnancy by doing the most inappropriate thing possible...he has given her a box of post-contraceptive pills that will, in essence, abort the baby inutero if she takes them. Sae, still in love with Ryo, doesn't want to give up their child and lashes out in the only way that she knows will hurt him, by trying to harm Misao... who is starting to see a side of him she wishes she hasn't.

Suddenly a heartfelt confession of love from Kiley has Momo reeling... and Toji witnesses the whole thing... now, while literally in the middle of a love triangle Momo is forced to choose between the two who both care for her deeply...but a chance phone call from Sae puts the whole matter on hold...is she really in the hospital or is Sae up to her old tricks again.

Well, after this volume there is only one more book left...which means that this penultimate issue is trying to tie up a lot of loose ends as it's simultaneously opening old wounds... now it's time to play guessing games on who's going to be the man to win Momo's heart. My money is on Kiley, purely for this reason. Ueda has spent so much time in developing the rift between the two of them. First, she sets up this dynamic relationship on and off again between Momo and Kiley in the first installment of Peach girl that ends in Kiley confessing his love and now the bulk of this series has been about their relationship and then break up of that relationship...true Toji was involved (to a degree) but he always seemed like such a secondary character even in the first part when they were seeing each other heavily. Kiley always managed to creep in and monopolize Momo's time and the readers hearts with his antics and charm... so yeah, my money is on Kiley... because honestly nice guys do finish last, and Toji was always too much of a pushover for his own good.

So, that being said, I'm off to read the next issue... It's been 17 volumes, thus far, and they are all worth the time. You should indulge yourself in them as I have done...they're really very worth it.

A Peach Girl Fan Must Have!

No spoilers here... It's been about six years that I've been reading Peach Girl (hooked from the beginning), and I am a huge fan of this teen manga even though I am beyond my teen years. This book is a must have addition to the drama. I feel that this book has some scattered details that need attention to be paid closely. It leaves some small details a little ambiguous at the end, but with only one more book left in the series, Miwa Ueda will surely tie it all up there. Whether you are rooting for Kiley or Toji, you are going to find high points here. And, if you've been following the series, you've seen Sae at her worst. I think she really picks up some points for her character in this one.

If you haven't read any of the other books in the series, seriously start from the beginning and read them all. It's worth the investment. The plot is thick and the pictures are gorgeous! Miwa Ueda has not kept her characters static, most of them have grown quite a bit since the beginning. If you only read one teen manga series, this is the one you should go for!

Happy reading all you Peach Fans!

New love, Old Problems Part 2

Momo has spied on Kiley's secret meeting with Morika and heard of the plans to meet at a hotel. Horrified she throws Kiley's present, a knit cell phone case that Momo handmade, at him and takes off. He pursues her only to get into a run in with a mugging and beat up so severely it lands him in the hospital. Momo, thinking he would show up to apologize, waits all night for him only to be ignored.

Now, ticked off and with nothing else to lose, she decides to confront Kiley and Morika at the hotel, but to her astonishment it turns out that the meeting was not between them but between Morika and Kiley's older brother, Ryo. Ryo turns on all the charm to Momo, who enchants him, and invites her to a party hosted by his programming company in an effort to get her some cash (so she can go off with Kiley for a special trip). But Momo's good intentions turn against her as everything that Kiley warned her about his older brother turns out to be true...and what's worse is that Sae is present to witness Momo's mistake.

Drama....! Man, smooth playboys like Ryo make high school manga worth reading, and here he is in all of his glory... seducing one woman after another, playing people against one another...Kiley is right when he says that Ryo is like Sae.. Perfect match, which is why Ryo called Sae on the carpet about her behaviour...they are mirror images, and when you throw that in with someone as gullible and na?ve as Momo...well let's just say she is the pot calling the kettle black as far as Toji is concerned...she fell for every single one of Ryo's smooth stories just as Toji did with Sae, only now Momo is powerless to do anything. Well, the series just keeps getting better and better, and I know I'll be getting the next volume from work just to keep my fix going.

In this vol. of change of heart Momo mets Kiley's big bro Ryo.
he come's off as a nice guy at first but he's secretly another Sae at least thats what i think.Every thing changes around and like momo wanted Toji to believe that sae was evil Kiley now is trying to convince Momo that Ryo is evil as well.At the end of vol.2 kiley has to come to Momo's rescue and this of course is the catch that makes you have to buy the next vol.
