Grey: Digital Target or the Guy That Just Refuses to Die

This book follows a great manga tradition of weaving together intense action, character development, advanced technology, and a bleak future world to create an ultimately philosphical exploration of humanity and its direction. And through it all the main character, Grey Death, manages to take on and take out what seems like 5 or 6 armies. He just absolutely refuses to let anyone kill him.

All manga/anime fans will genuinely enjoy the art and story of this graphic novel. It tells the story of the downfall of humanity and machines in the typical manga setting, the future. This 296 page collection will keep any manga fan busy with it's great art alone. If you are a fan of good mangas or animes check this one out.

Gritty, Hard Sci-Fi, That asks questions about humanity

Review Date: 1999-02-24
In this gritty science fiction Manga (japanese comic), Grey Death is fighting for citizenship. In a world where the common people have no rights (remincent of Heinlein's Starship Troopers), the only way to gain prestege is to fight against the rebels who threaten the computed controled society. Can any of them stand to Grey, who fights with no regard for his own life?

The plot draws you in and the fights are amazing-Tagami's use of lines is wonderful. Be forewarned, there is a bit of nudity, innuendos, and, of course, violence here is second nature.

Farts ARE funny!

Review Date: 2007-01-06
The great thing about the Grosse brothers is that they're not just all about the farts. They're intrepid problem-solvers, they face all the travails of kids their age (sibling rivalry, school competition) with courage and integrity, and they support and encourage each other. Who knew that a story about intestinal gas could have a moral backbone? But to the grouchy reviewer who didn't get it: it's not Proust, dude. It's a whimsical story set in a slapstick fantastical world, geared towards beginning readers (the comic book panel inserts are especially good). That the author manages to compress so much exciting plot and unusual characters into a short number of pages is a testament to her ability and vision. The Grosse brothers are not just a one-fart pony!

This is my son's favorite book! He wants to read it almost every night, which is terrific, since he isn't much of a reader. We both really enjoy the funny situations those guys get into and the creative way they solve problems (use your strength - farting!). I can't wait for the next one to come out. Go Grosse!

It rings true for normal kids, and adults, since grossing people out is pretty much what guys do - it is a art form for some, especially Stan, our hero. I am glad we found a book and an author that can make us laugh.

Funny & clever - my nephew LOVES it

I don't understand not liking this book. It's a fun little tale about two brothers working together to defeat the snotty girl at school. Yeah, there's farting, but it's done in a funny way I hadn't seen before. It even teaches a little science (not that the average boy would realize it).

I bought this for my video-game-addicted nephew and he loves it. Reads it over and over. Can't wait for the next book to come out. Mixing in comics with text helps a lot, I think. His mom's thrilled - anything that gets him reading is gold to her.

I did a little research on the author, Annie Auerbach. Turns out she's written dozens of books and has been on the New York Times bestseller list.

I taught school for 30 years and I would loved to have had these Gross-E books available for my reluctant boy (and girl) readers. They are well written, clever, organized, outrageous and FUN! Parents and teachers will need to get over the use of the word 'fart', buy the books and watch your boys read and read! This second in the series is even better than the first.

My sons and I are delighted with the 2nd in the Stinky & Stan seires. Not only are they fun and fast paced, but there are great pictures that are fun, too. I can't wait for the next adventure. My kids even dubbed one of the stuffed Rhinos they have the Grosse Rhino and he farts (noise gleefully provided by the boys).

Just as good as the one before it. I've already watched the complete Anime TV series. I loved it so much that I did not expect that the Mange could have bin any better however the manga is much better then the TV series. There's comedy, action, love, brief nudity, mindless violence and everyone likes mindless violence... Just buy the damn thing.

This second volume of GTO elevates Eikichi Onizuka to the level of superhero as he breaks down the barriers between one of his students he taught during his training and her alienated parents and gives them hope for a better future. He's finally ready to get his first job as a teacher but a problem arises on the bus to his interview. As he is looking at a woman's [posterior] and thinks about grabbing her, some other pervert beats him to it, and ironically, Onizuka ends up defending her honor by delivering a nasty blow to his face. Onizuka comes to find out that the woman, Azusa Fuyutsuki, is interviewing at the same school as him and the person he hit is the prinicipal doing the hiring. Not a very auspicious start.

This second book was as good if not better than the first. The plot and characters become a little more deep as GTO must confront some more profound issues than just simply lusting after young girls. What really comes out in this volume is the sense of his goodness which lurks behind the posturing youth. We also find that his reason for teaching is transforming into that of helping the kids instead of sleeping with them. Great read.

The second GTO book picks up a faster pace and provides more dimension to Great Teacher Onizuka. The realistic character of a young turk turned teacher is amusing and different from other manga titles. The strong personality of Onizuka is balanced with his experience (zero) with girls. A fun and provocative enterntainment.

I enjoy the .hack series as a story even though the games blow it's a really interesting read for science fiction buffs. I do recommend you order elsewhere though since it's not only more expensive on Amazon, but the book itself was in extremely poor condition. It looked like it had been manhandled by a 4 year old or bought from somebody's yard sale. I was very unsatisfied having to wait nearly 2 weeks for it to arrive and receiving such an inadequate copy of the series that I've been buying in stores since it was first published in this country. DO NOT BUY ANY READING MATERIAL WHATSOEVER FROM AMAZON!! I cannot stress this enough!

Soon as I got home with this book I just started up ready to read and didn't want to stop for anything. I was excited an everything in it caught me off gaurd and from not even finishing the game to part 3 or 2 got my heart racing like being in a speeding car. I didn't even want to put the book down for 1 second becasue of the fear of the exciting part coming and missing it. I loved the art, the details the everything and when i was done i wanted the last book right then and there. It took me 2 days to finish but i wanted more, this kept me happy even when i was going to sleep it was in my head. But when the day started again there is was waiting to be read and i couldn't resist the call of the book.

This book contains some of the adventures of Hamtaro, a pet hamster, told from the point of view of the hamster himself. Hamtaro has a childlike curiousity that allows him to learn about the world around him, even though it sometimes gets him in trouble. As a bonus, readers also get hamster care tips and/or facts at the end of most of the stories.

So it's been a long time since there's been any new "Hamtaro" and you're thirsting for something new. Here's an idea --- find out how it all started with this great storybook of adventures by the show creator.

"The Adventures of Hamtaro: A Home for Hamtaro and Other Stories" contains eleven great Hamtaro stories. For those who have enjoyed the TV show watching from somewhere other than Japan, but haven't had a chance to dive deeper into the fandom, this is essential reading. Even if you're a pretty big fan, you'll likely learn some things from this you didn't know before.

Wanna see Hamtaro's family tree? It's here. Wanna learn Laura's name in the original stories? Find that out too. You'll even find out some neat tips about to handle and care for real hamsters.

This is a cute picture book about a hamster named Hamtaro. He is a birthday present for a girl named Yukari. He learns about humans and about being a pet in a series of short stories. The pictures are adorable and the stories are fun. Hamtaro narrates the stories himself. There is also a little bit of information about real hamsters after every story. This is a good book for little kids and anyone who likes the Hamtaro TV show.

My daughter (8 years old) loves Hamtaro, so we got her this book for Christmas. She and her 6 year old brother were able to punch out and assemble most of the pieces themselves. And they have really enjoyed playing with the little clubhouse and hamster figures. I'd recommend this book to Hamtaro fans who like to play make-believe, and who like to work on paper projects.

I got one of these for my 8 year old daughter for Christmas and
she loved it!!! She did need some help assembling the house and because it is made of paper you have to be gentle when playing with it...we have set it up as a decoration in her room!!
There was a story to read, Bijou's in Danger and mazes...the only thing she found "babyish" was a hide and seek page that she thought was too easy...
Overall this is alot of fun..

Review Date: 2005-01-14
Hellsing is already a masterwork, (albeit one in progress,) and volume four, as with all of the other volumes of the manga that have come before, seems to be no different. Hirano has outdone himself yet again, and proven, also yet again, that his style, like a fine wine, only gets better with age.

As with any manga series, I recommend you start with the first volume, (in order to maintain the story's general coherency and provide a more enjoyable experience overall,) but if you've already read through volume three, then this book is a definite must have! The artwork is excellent to say the least; Hirano's style has certainly come a long way since the previous three mangas! His work in Volume four is far more refined, and the storyline progresses in an adrenaline choked suspense ride jam-packed with the kind of gore and gothic crusaderism we've come to expect from Hirano. Again, a definite must have for any fan of Hellsing!

This book rocks!

This is in fact the best one by far (it is also one of the only ones that there is cussing in, despite Hellsing's outward, violent appearance). I am actually 15 years old, but due to complications I wound up in the 13 and under review department. So here I am to tell you of the wonders of Hellsing vol. 4 by Kouta Hirano. The series overall is excellent. The drawings are detailed and inky, almost every page has a smattering of blood but its something you come to expect in a tale of vampiric, Nazi mayhem. The characters in this series are excellent and well-portrayed, and the vampire Alucard is a character of many layers and shades; quite intriguing. The story is well-developed and the charcters help push it along. This is a must-read for all vampire fans out there, and I know there are plenty. But this is by far...no tale for the weak of heart...or...stomach for that matter.

Enslave thy neighbor...part 5....

Review Date: 2005-10-20

When Shinogu confesses his feelings to Hatsumi she misunderstands his affection for normal brother and sisterly love, but Ryoki hears it and becomes insanely jealous of this. Hatsumi decides to give Ryoki a chance and asks him out to see a movie, but her brother's sudden move out of the apartment keeps her preoccupied and this causes the date to break up early. Hatsumi decides to talk to Shinogu and heads to his apartment, but she meets up with Ryoki quite unexpectedly and he decides to go with her to find out the truth about Shinogu once and for all.

Even after Shinogu admits he's not Hatsumi's real brother she doesn't accept it. Shinogu decides to take matters into his own hands and confronts Azusa with the truth about his father and Azusa's mother and they decide to have a sit down with Mr. Narita when he comes back to town. Some drunken revelry on Akane's and Subaru's part also adds to the confusion about the nature of their relationship... and a consensual kiss from Hatsumi has Ryoki reeling... The drama is just getting to be too much in this fantastic series.

As the story progresses more and more I am starting to like Ryoki. At first I thought he was an utter jerk, but as more of his feelings for Hatsumi is revealed he becomes a bit more sympathetic, as I am sure is the point. Likewise, as more of Azusa's intentions were revealed he became more repellent. (I still can't believe Hatsumi would even entertain the notion of speaking to him after what he did to her, rather, what he tried to do to her). Shinogu is, of course, becoming more prevalent in the range of romantic possibilities, but honestly, even though they have the whole D/S thing going on, I hope Hatsumi stays with Ryoki. I think she can help ease his heart, provided he is willing to let his open up to her.

The MOST exciting volume!

Volume 5 Hot Gimmick has got to be the most exciting volume!! This volume is a MUST READ!

In this volume we're getting more clues about Hatsumi's family secret when Shinogu moves out. Discover why & how bad boy Ryoki gets more & more lovable in each volume! Hatsumi could barely control her feelings around Ryoki these days but after Azusa, Hatsumi is very cautious! What's Ryoki's true intention, is he doing this to convince Hatsumi to be a slave?

Readers will be proud & be surprised by Hatsumi's action in this volume! she finally expressed herself, stand up for her feelings! That's a HUGE progress for our Hatsumi since volume 1!!

I love this volume the best because the romance from each character pair is budding! It's so entertaining to see how Hatsumi, Akane, Ryoki & the gang deal with their emotions, it's something that we all can relate to. We could also see each character's growth & maturity, how somehow they all effect each other!!

Also the drama seems to escalate within each volume leaves you wanting MORE! MORE! Hot Gimmick is deffinitely one of the BEST & most exciting shoujo!

Highly recommended

Hot Gimmick, since the moment I read the first chapter, has become a favorite for me. Miki Aihara knows her shoujo, and delivers it in a fresh and heart-stirring way.

Meet Hatsumi, a normal teenager in a normal family, an older brother, and two younger siblings, a sister and brother. There's the boss' son(Ryoki), a bully, who doesn't understand his own feelings, and the gorgeous(yum!) childhood friend(Azusa), which Hatsumi hopes will become MORE than a friend. But fate is not always so kind, especially since Hatsumi becomes Ryoki's slave while she tries to help her sister. She then she discovers that her knight in shining armor may not really be there to save her and that life can't get more confusing than this... or can it?

I recommend this to all shoujo fans. It has messages of bullies, love, revenge, and innocence, that everyone must learn to ever grow up. Hopefully by reading this manga, you'll learn something about your life, and yourself.
