I read both Eleanor Roosevelt, and Andrew Carnegie by this author and felt they were real people. I didn't feel that kind of reader intimacy with Abe. Of course the book was informative! Just dull. Glad it was for a class and not for fun. I find in this book as well as the others that the citations go on and on and on. It would be nice to get a book from the same author that read more smoothly.

A picturebook game similar to Ace of Aces - Handy Rotary Series.

Each player has a book that contains many different 1st person perspective views from the back of a dragon flying high above ground. You and your wingmate must destroy the 'threads' as they fall without injuring each other. Best of seven threads makes for a good introducory game.

The rules are split into three different sets: Introductory (basic moves and how to score), Role-playing (adds different dragon types and rider statistics) and Campaign (links multiple flights and awards bonus stats to player characters).

I expected more. I thought there would be more photos of the gardens, and I thought it would be a more thorough book. Looking at the cactus garden, I had hoped for more descriptions of the varieties. I had always heard Lotusland was a sort of magical, mystical place, but this book didn't convey the sense of that at all.

A well-researched, miserably edited biography

Didn't Graham Lord have an editor? Even making allowance for the loose punctuation habits of contemporary British authors, this gossipy biography is composed largely of one run-on sentence after another. It's repetitious - the author frequently forgets what he's already told us. Moreover, Graham Lord seems to feel that a biographer is entitled not merely to summarize and evaluate, but also to engage in crude, gratuitous moralizing. This is the sort of thing any competent editor would red-line. Nor is the author aware that while a biographer may properly incorporate vulgar or obscene language in a quotation, it should be below his dignity to use it himself to discuss his subject.

This book reads like a 300-page tabloid article. It stakes out a high moral ground, but relies for reader interest principally on explicit, titillating details of John Mortimer's sexual escapades and his lifelong indifference to the truth. Lord obviously put a lot of effort into researching this book; it contains a great deal of information of interest to those of us who admire Mortimer's work. It's a shame more time wasn't spent cleaning the manuscript up.

Like another Amazon reviewer, I was greatly annoyed at the publisher's omission of the photographs in the American edition.

an introduction to an intriguing historical figure

If you are looking for a brief introduction to this intriguing figure in American history, _Cry Freedom_ could be it. It includes portions of most of the important literature regarding Turner, including the full text of his 'confession' to Thomas Gray. However, one must be careful. The book has attracted very little attention in the academic community. Moreover, there are several errors, and it fails to come to a proper conclusion. Use it as a 'spring-board' for further research, but if you want the definitive collection of documents on Turner's rebellion, obtain a copy of Henry Irving Tragle's _The Southampton Slave Revolt of 1831_.

R.L. Stine

Review Date: 2007-01-04
R.L. Stine's Goosebumps series of horror books for children is listed in the Guinness World Records Millennium Edition 2000 as the world's top-selling children's book series. To date, there have been more than two hundred million Goosebumps books published. For one of the world's most prolific authors of children's books, Stine is remarkably humble, according to Michelle Parker-Rock in her recent biography. The grandson of Russian immigrants, he grew up in the Columbus, Ohio, suburb of Bexley. When he was nine years old, he discovered an old portable typewriter in the forbidden attic of his childhood home. From that moment on, he was determined to be a writer. Stine wrote all through high school and college, and made a living in New York City by writing and editing magazines for children. His first literary love was humor, but a freelance job writing horror turned into his successful career as the creator of Goosebumps and other series, including Fear Street.
Parker-Rock's biography, one of the titles in the series Authors Teens Love, draws most of its information from a lengthy interview with Stine, the transcript of which is included at the end of the book, as well as from Stine's 1997 autobiography It Came From Ohio! My Life as a Writer (Scholastic). Except for a photograph of the thirteen-year-old Bobby Stine at his bar mitzvah and a definition in the glossary, there is no other Jewish content in this book. While not an important addition to Jewish libraries, this comprehensive biography is a necessary purchase for public and school libraries with other titles in the series. Middle school students and younger teens needing to write a report on a favorite author will be drawn to the straightforward prose and the wealth of additional material, such as a helpful timeline of Stine's life and publishing career, a complete listing of Stine's spooky stories, detailed chapter notes, and a list of websites.

This story is definitely not very well written, with obvious mistakes and a too-quick ending. I enjoyed learning a little bit about lucid dreaming, so that made the book tolerable. I'm not clear on why Teal'c's symbiote didn't protect him from the inhaled substances. If you're not very familiar with the TV show Stargate SG-1 this book probably won't make too much sense because you won't get the references to other events. Characters from the show who appear in the book include: Sam Carter, Jack O'Neill, Teal'c, Daniel Jackson, Janet Fraiser, and George Hammond. The story takes place sometime after Sam Carter is promoted to Major. If you're a die-hard collector, go ahead and get this one used. But if you're only a casual fan, there are much better stories out there so skip this one.

I am so confused!!!!!!!

OK When did the ORIGINAL writers of Stargate change Sam Carter to Amanda Carter and Daniel and Blonde hair(they didn't, the author did).
When you make a movie from a book you learn to get the facts right(vice-versa). It didn't happen here. Hello editor, publiser!!

I also had to push myself through the chapters. I will stick to the OTHER SG1 series. A Matter of Honor and The Cost of Honor(the best)real page turners.

Is she kidding? This was worse than the last one of hers I read. I was always told, "write what you know". I really don't think she's ever seen an episode. Daniel's blond? Amanda Carter? Please do us all a favor and write about something you know, and leave SG-1 alone.

I thought it was an ok story, but there were a lot of mistakes coming from the author and the time-line of this book: first off was that the names of the main characters were messed up, second was that this book was supposed to be some-time after their mission to Netu and their run-in with their biggest enemy, thirdly was that it wasn't till the 4th season that they met up with Osiris , and finally they got the relationships between the characters all wrong as well, such as O'neill and Frasier when in the show it would be between him and Carter. As well as the issue with messing with the imaginations of the main characters and their memories which was also brought up in the season 2 episode" The Game Keeper", and they made the crucial mistake of getting the wrong area when they mentioned finding the 2nd gate since they found it Anartica rather then in Iceland. But other then these mistakes the story was really good. Read the other three books before you read this since this is during the middle of the third season, so it'll make a little more since after a while.

Anyone who says this is a bad book obviously knows very little about writing. Granted, yes there were a few mistakes, but overall I thought the book was beautifully written. I found myself unable to put the book down. I would definitely recommend this book to die hard Stargate SG-1 fans.

Review Date: 2008-04-02
I found this book lacking in the kind of specifics I was looking to get. It felt like the author simply pulled out several articles written at different times and handed to a secretary to stick in a manuscript and title each article as a chapter. What else could explain the constant mentioning over and over again one's so-called credentials. One only needs to be filled in on the author's background once, not constantly throughout the book.

Very disappointing. After 3 or so chapters of nothing but the author talking about herself and the promotion of her "staging certification", I have had enough. I counldn't take it anymore and did not read the rest of this book.

Book only has 8 poorly reproduced photos showing lack of design training. Author claims the business is not a design business, but a real estate business. That's what you say when you don't know much about design. Text is printed in light grey making it really hard to read. Filled with redundant and excessive claims to fame that are unsubstantiated and highly exaggerated. Constant use of misleading terminology leading to a shallow designation with no accountability for talent. Author's clear intent is propaganda for her high priced seminars. Would not recommend this book.

I was very excited when I first found this product because I thought it would really help me with my nursing concept maps but in the end I was very disappointed. The software is very user friendly when it comes to collecting the data, but the actual concept map was a nightmare. Customizing it was a joke. As a student we're required to enter scientific rationale for each intervention which is a lot of typing. This software does not let you resize your text boxes in no way. Therefore, all of my text would end up off the page. It was a mess. I ended up having to take a screenshot, pasting the picture in paint program and then cutting and pasting the text I needed to move. I then pasted that in word and printed my concept map. I've used other Mosby products and know that they could have done better. I think they were just making this product to be able to say that they had it and to make a little money. Don't waste your money.

I purchased this to help with a class project. However I found that it did not meet my class specification, because they can vary by each instructors likes, more than care plans. So it did not help me at all. Also I found that my school text book had the exact program available for free on the internet with the web based study guide. so for me it was a redundant product. So to summerize, it was exactly what they claim, it works well, just not what I had hoped for. I have the care plan constructor from the same publisher and it was the best resorce I ever purchased for my nursing education.

Save your money and do it yourself.

Although the thought that went into creating this item was useful, the item itself is not. The headings for content areas are there, but the learning curve is steep- it was for me, and for my nursing students. There is not adequate space to allow for text entry, and it basically makes your paper pretty by adding colors.
It took my students longer to figure out how to use the program than it did for them to create their own concept maps using a standard word processing program.

I feel this program is great for nursing students (myself being one). It quikly builds concept maps and lets you know what information to gather while doing an assesment. Your teacher will be impressed by the professional look. The other reveiw states that it is very difficult to learn how to use this program, however, it took me just a few minutes to be up and running, it's SIMPLE! Anyway I highly recommend it.

[...] Heather B. Armstrong picks the best of parenting bloggers and has them write about Fatherhood. But surprisingly, the chapters do not read like blog posts but really a collection of stories. One of these is classic tale of Star Wars obssession, but the story by Matthew Baldwin that likens pregnancy to The Return of the King was an absolute classic. And there are some others that hit the mark. This is definitely one to take a look at the next time you are browsing.

It wasn't a fast read. It was a slow and dangerous read, a dark and twisty and sentimental read. A collection of stories invoking all sorts of fathers, goofy fathers, angry fathers, fathers suffering from dementia and conservatism, fathers as overwhelmed as mothers, fathers preparing to divorce mothers, fathers reliving their Star Wars infatuations with their sons. Earnest fathers. Scared fathers. Loving fathers. Human fathers. The collection reminds me of the Deadwood bar in Iowa City, a land of dark booths, horrible coffee and upside-down Christmas trees. Thick and smoke-filled and shot through with cool. The people who were comfortable there will like this book. I loved the Deadwood.
