This is an important book in Dogon studies, because it was written by two of the pioneering anthropologists in the field. It focusses on a Dogon cosmology, a complex creation myth told to the researchers by one informant. The book has been critiqued as unrepresentative of Dogon thought -- possibly only representative of that individual's ideas. I was hoping for more ethnographic info on the Dogon, which I've since found in other sources. (The introduction by Dieterlen does contain some ethnographic information which I found useful -- it just isn't the focus of the book.)

According to Dr. Malachi Z. York, Hatonn was the leader of the Draconians, but defected and became Commander of Ashtar Command. I don't know if there is any truth to that, but after surfing the internet I was able to confirm he is a high commander within the Ashtar Command, but I could not link him to the Draconians. If anyone has any more info please email me back.

This book is good for learning about the multiple mutations (phenotypes) of ring-necked parakeets, but is difficult to decipher at first, even for a biologist that has taken college-level genetics because it uses terminology a bit differently. Some sentences are difficult to interpret because it has been translated into English from Dutch. My only complaint is that the authors never disclose the genotypes of specific phenotypes, but they do an excellent job of describing expected phenotypes of different crosses. It is an excellent reference book, but it is not stand alone and may take some time to make sense of. This book is inadequate if interested in the genetics of the mutations.

It could have been a great guide. However, the most obvious problem with this books was that it was printed seven or eight years ago. I was using this guide to locate used bookstores in the Washington DC area and only about half of the bookstores listed still exist today. Especially in today's era when so many stores have gone online, an update would have been welcome. Still with stores that currently exist, it is a useful guide for determining what kind of books a certain store sells, pricing, and recomendations.

This book is very comprehensive in covering all beginner aspects of database concepts. However, there are so many errors in this book I absolutely had to sell it because I couldn't stand keeping such a book. For the fifth edition I was very disappointed. The ERD symbols were incorrect, and there are typos galore. You actually have to know all about databases to actually read past the errors and understand everything. For someone who doesn't know database concepts, this book will only lead you to make errors when you try and apply the practices. I hope 6th edition is much better.

If you are really interested in making a career out of databases, then this is a book you got to read. An analogy that comes to mind is "You got to have a strong foundation to build a sky craper". This is exactly what this book is. It helps you build a strong foundation.

I got hold of this book when I was in my 4th Semester of my BS in computer science (1994 - 2nd Edition of this book) to clear my Database concepts exam. Ever since, whenever I feel I might not have understood some concept, I go back to this book.

One thing you got to understand is, its not a book that you can just read through and tell people that you have understood the concepts. You need to work the book.

This was purchased as the required text book for a cs course on advanced database. Having no prior knowledge of database, the book is a hard read especially rel alg and rel calc sections. I agree with the ground up approach of the reviewer, however, the book is all theory. Already through chapter 6 and still do not now how to create a database. For $100.00 you expect more.

This is a required book for my undergrad Databases class. While reading over it before the semester started I began to wonder why my professor would ever choose such a terrible book. Of course it became clear when, on the first day of class, the professor began to read word for word off slides with the names of the authors sitting at the bottom along with the familiar 'cute' artwork from the cover. Note to instructors: choosing a book because it provides prewritten notes and allows you to be extra lazy is not a valid reason for choosing a textbook. The book is filled with lots of mathematical notation with few good examples. By good examples I mean those that involve realistic databases and not the 'Consider a schema R = (A, B, C, D, E)...' mathematical drivel that fills most of the pages.

This is quite the typical Computer Science textbook, vastly overpriced and lacking any real information. Veteran CS students will be happy to find that even the most simple concepts have been reduced to pure math, this to make sure that creative students who have no passion for math do not have an unfair advantage.

If you can only read math (or prefer that everything in life is described purely in equation form), this is the best book on the market!

This book was repetitive to the point where it seems the author wrote the book and never bothered to read it himself. If he had, surely he would have cut out much of the same clap trap. Horrible read... one star is too much.

I sent a review through a little while back but needed to edit. In summary I noted how he says that Abraham wasn't a prophet, showing that he is teaching based on traditional sermons and not one who studies the Word (Bible) for himself (esp since he quotes from too many other people anyway). In Genesis 20:7 YAHWEH (the LORD) calls Abraham a prophet. Okay, after finding that and quickly sharing this with you all I finished reading the excerpt, lol. Here is another error:

A few pages after lessoning Abraham's position (because of his traditional view on what a prophet is), he then says that Enoch came (was BORN) 400 years before Abraham. This is waaaayyyyy off (IF I'M WRONG, PLEASE CORRECT ME; IN HUMILITY I WELCOME SUCH). Since that number (400) seemed off to me (seemed too little) I simply went back to see if I could calculate this. Looking at Genesis 5:18 and beyond:

At age 162 Jared begot Enoch (Jared lived 273 years after Enoch's death. Jared lived 800 years total. 800-162 = 638 years difference. Enoch lived 365 years. 638-365 = 273. No point, lol). Continuing (again from GENESIS 5 AND BEYOND):

At age 162 Jared begot Enoch (Jared 800 total years)
At age 65 Enoch begot Methuselah (Enoch 365 total years)
At age 187 Methuselah begot Lamech (Methuselah 969 total years)
At age 182 Lamech begot Noah (Lamech 777 total years)

Now Enoch was 65 when he had Methuselah, Methuselah was 187 when he had Lamech. This means Enoch was 252 years old when Lamech is born (65+187=252). Enoch lived a total of 365 years minus 252 at Lamech's birth, remaining 113 years after Lamech's birth, 113 years after Lamech's birth Enoch dies. Lamech is 182 when Noah is born minus 113 years ago Enoch died, so Noah was born 69 years after Enoch death.

IF Enoch CAME (was BORN) 400 years before Abraham, then Abraham should have come only 35 years after Enoch's death! Enoch died at 365. 400-365 is 35! What the heck!!!! Noah wasn't even born yet. Via Genesis chapters 9, 10, from Noah comes Shem, Ham, Japheth. From Shem comes Terah, THEN comes Abraham! That's more than 400 years; (how could Abraham come 400 years after Enoch when Noah came 69 years after Enoch's death???)

PLEASE TELL ME IF I'VE MISSED SOMETHING.

On page 12 he makes it seem that Enoch is likened to a 'Chosen One' simply because he walked with God and did not die but was 'taken up' to heaven. I can't knock this (he points out that this is the case only for Enoch, Elijah, and Jesus...so far, so good, that I know of) BUT being Chosen / ANOINTED is for a reason, it's with a cause: redemption of others, as YAHWEH'S (the LORD) heart has always been to reconcile fallen man to holiness and communion / fellowship with Himself. Now if this title 'Chosen One' is given to anyone in Genesis then it COULD be rather given to ENOSH. Genesis 4:26, "And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him ENOSH. THEN men began to call on the name of YAHWEH (the LORD)." (Not trying to push Enosh either, just showing how off the author is).

I don't know about this book. I believe there is some great significance to Enoch; good, bad, or in between, but the author is too off on seemingly small things and IT IS "small" things that lead to proving so-called "big/great" things which effects people's pure knowledge, faith, and trust. The Table of Contents mentions that he will get into the New Testament but the errors I've found within this book JUST BY THE EXCERPT are from the book of Genesis alone!!!! NO GOOD HOMEBOY! lol. But I'd hope his intentions were with good cause. (I only gave it a `3' because I haven't read the entire thing yet).

Although the author does not claim to be a scholar, or to have written a scholarly text on the subject at hand, you still expect opinions as radical and bizarre as hers to be supported by hard, irrefutable evidence. That is sorely lacking in this book.
To set the record straight:
1. Enoch was a "traditional Jew", both in family ancestry and religious heritage, not a black male from Ethiopia.
2. "The Book of Enoch" WAS found in Ethiopia in 1768 by a Scotsman( James Bruce) and was later translated by an Englishman (Canon R.H. Charles). But the author(s) was NOT an Ethiopan.
3. The author(s) of "The Book of Enoch" were certainly from the line of (Jewish) prophets.

This book is just another example in the recent ( falsified and heartbreakingly pathetic) trend of attempting to "Afrocentralize" the Scriptures. The few examples of black individuals that appear in Scripture are readily identified ( such as the Ethiopian eunuch led to Christ by Philip in Acts 8:27).

Biblical individuals should primarily be remembered for the important messages and lessons from God of which they write. But they deserve to be portrayed truthfully and accurately, not just to satisfy someone's racial or political agenda.

I bought this book to read a Black centered, Ethiopian perspective on the prophet Enoch. What a complete waste of resources! I thought I could take the warned against repetition, however, I was fed up on page 15 already - with 285 more to follow!

In principle I appreciate any unorthodox/eccentric writing style. However, sick more than 90% of the written words being comprised of quotes of other books etc. is something I do not want to experience Iver again. In fact, the number of pages of his own words would stay clearly in the single digits, if it weren't for the brief conclusion of the book. The author quotes anyone, no matter how often almost literally the very same thing. Quoting, what Enoch is, without the respective reasons. Occasionally, I begged for an explanation: "Enoch is the inventor of urban civilization." How would that be possible, in the supposed 7th generation of humankind? Would that even be a good thing, to invent the big shitty?! Some subchapters are extremely short: "Enoch the Great Authority [headline] In Levitical literature and traditions Enoch is regarded as a great authority." Followed by the source. That was it. Just to give an expression of the exquisiteness of the information. A similar subchapter is headed "Enoch the Creator's Favorite". Four pages later another "Enoch the Favorite of God". Writing exclusively in quotes unsurprisingly lead to various contradictions. Without commenting those. It also lead to omissions.

I hoped to learn something about Enoch. I definitely did not. A third of the book is entirely off the point, i.e. NOT about Enoch. But instead about the Egyptians (!) having been Black and general racism. I do agree (largely) with the author on this (though nothing is new to those who have read other African centered books on Egypt). This doesn't change the fact that there's nothing substantial about Enoch in this book instead, not even in addition.

Quelle surprise, there's racism in the world. It is largely described in such a general way, utterly unrelated to Enoch that I am still wondering, what exactly the concept of the book might have been. Though it was ok to read some examples of famous people saying something racist, just to put them on the history index. Personally I prefer not to repeat that many insults, as that qualifies as further insulting - oneself, involuntarily. As I share the sentiments in general of the author on this, I still add one star to the lowest category possible for this book. I may have added another, but even in this regard the book is flawed. To begin with, there aren't any races.

A major point of discontent I have with this book, is that the author writes things which are true, but discredits them with flawed proofs. He's saying, if one Biblical character is Black skinned, then ALL before and after in the geneology must have been also. Likely, but not necessarily. Because the Sinai is located in Egypt, and because Egypt is located in Africa, the ancient Egyptians must have been Black. Yes, they were Black, but the causal relationship escapes me. Anyway, I may add ancient Blacks once lived in eastern Asia, Scotland, Scandinavia, India, Tasmania, etc. Also the Sumerians were Black, yes. But not because they CAME from Africa, but because the area was well within the ancient Black populated world. The pre-Hebrew people descending from Abraham are described as numbering 70 when migrating into Egypt, but numbering some (3,)600,000 at the Imes of the exodus a relatively short Imes later. The author suggests that they must have mixed with Blacks and therefore HAD BECOME Black. In reality, Abraham had been Black from the beginning, as is contradictingly mentioned elsewhere. Besides, it is an urban legend that he came from Ur. (Read The Africans Who Wrote the Bible.) The names and artificial borders of continents say nothing about the skin color of the respective inhabitants at different Imes. Moses (who is not seen as Akenten/Akhenaton in this book) was black skinned, yes. But this is not provable with the magic trick in the Bible, displaying a white hand for a moment as a supposed contrast to his general phenotype color. For one thing, he was explicitly NOT the Israelites' "first great miracle worker". Simply for the reason that he taught AGAINST magic. Later scribes of the Bible misunderstood the earlier texts and misinterpreted and mistranslated various text passages into a lot of magic tricks never done. In addition, the white hand is not referring to any phenotype whiteness, but sickness whiteness, as is still overstandable from the quote provided. It is referring to leprosy. Someone "White" could have done the same "white hand magic", as "Whites" are in reality pink or beige. More about Moses read in Moses and Akhenaten: The Secret History of Egypt at the Time of the Exodus. Enoch might have been an Ethiopian (as in today's country). He was Black for sure. However not, because the Ethiopian Church still includes it in its canon. The other early churches did that as well. Ethiopia became isolated from the rest of Christianity and didn't follow subsequent doctrine changes. There are other Ethiopian apocryphs, not about Ethiopians and other Bible texts in European Bibles not referring to Europeans. The book follows the belief that every people (= phenotype) has to venerate Mary and Jesus/I-Yasus in the skin color of their own. I concur that fakings, done in order to downpress, should not be followed. However, the book's suggestion is racist in the manner that non-Black (APPEARING) people supposedly aren't INHERENTLY able to identify with a Black Jesus and that indeed different skin colors equal different peoples/races. Last not least Adam was most likely Black, yes. (That I would have to say that as a RastafarI...) No matter, how much the concept of Adam is White. Yet at the Imes of Adam, as described by the Bible and this book, humans already featured all the other phenotypes. Simply, because Adam wasn't really the first human, as can be seen in his story of further procreation. He was the first patriarch under a certain concept of humanity. So the "proof" is flawed that as the first human he must have been black skinned, even though he was. Ancient Egypt is still described as too young. Read When We Ruled: The Ancient and Medieval History of Black Civilisations.

This book doesn't only quote The Isis Papers: The Keys to the Colors, but actually recommends it, as the author Dr. Cress Welsing supposedly does a "brilliant analysis" of racism. In reality, that book is hiding grave racism (against Blacks) behind a thin veil of reversed racism. Curiously, a few pages later, historic The Willie Lynch Letter and the Making of a Slave is quoted extensively. Perfectly describing what The Isis Papers has continued EXACTLY in a modern version. In that sense, Willie Lynch was perfectly right that with his methods Blacks in America can be controlled for at least 300 years - obviously even when they are freed and perfectly aware of them.

As for the Enoch part of this book: The author takes everything literally - and by that misses the point. The mysticism of it. For example that Enoch ascended into Heaven with his body. This isn't even literally said in the story. (In fact, there are even contradictory quotes that his body was transformed into "flames".) It is just said that he didn't die. That is a tremendous difference. Other literal interpretations include people living anywhere from 365 years to capping a millennium and that God looks like a (hu)man.

There are some hostile references towards sexuality and the Greek are getting criticized for not inventing any doctrines which couldn't get enforced accordingly. For once, the Greeks have done something right, and then that's bad...

As for the sloppy presentation of the book: The contents table is completely wrong, suggesting some 50 more pages not existing due to an altered lay-out, there are two chapter X, and many other flaws of this sort, suggesting a lacking proof-reader.

The actual text of Enoch is not included. Please read the Ethiopian version: The Lost Book of Enoch: Comprehensive Transliteration of the Forgotten Book of the Bible.

I enjoyed Zambotti's book. It clearly is not intended as serious research, nor a complete scan of the spectrum of experiences, but a collection of observations drawn over time. I found moments I could identify with, and some I could not. And many moments that caused a chuckle. Because each person's recounting is only a paragraphy or so, it is an easy book to pick up and put down - i.e. read during TV commercials, while on a bus or subway, or even while stuck in rush hour traffic. Enjoyable book with powerful stories of childhood that were taken from 11 countries in the Developed Western World including USA, Australia, Czech Republic, Germany, Canada, Mexico, Brasil, New Zealand, Costa Rica, South Africa and many others. This book brought back many memories of growing up. This was a fun comical read and great for a trip or a weekend getaway to laugh and share with friends. Since all the hundreds of stories are from different people they are all humorous and unique. All classes and ethnic backgrounds are included in the book. This was a great book of recollections of memories compiled and illustrated by famed bear-cartoonist Frisch. Screwy and hilarious things they did as children that should have made their eventual sexual identity clear to their parents. This book clearly verifies that gay identity is inborn, not a choice. Whether marching around in Mommy's heels, giving sister's Barbies a new hairstyle or innocently seducing the boy next door, the stories are incredibly funny and reported just as they were remembered.

I suspect this author writes for the comedy series as most of what he writes here is fairly sterotypical of media presentations of gay men. No one I know ever lived through the delightful, fun times he did. He fails to mention rejection from family and friends, and the other problems of coming out.

While reading this I felt as though I was watching a stereotypical primetime sitcom about gay men. The author seems to follow the theory that gay men all act the same, like the same things and go through the same experiences but in reality do not. As a gay man, and as a Latino, I and my brothers have not been privy to his experiences. Rather, we usually live in fear, hiding our true feelings and experiences. We do not all go to circuit parties, watch broadway shows, listen to Barbara; rather there are many more varying experiences out there and the author should have looked for others rather than relying on Will & Grace wanna' be's.

Try again Mr. Z. Although many of us were born gay, it was not as fun and carefree as described. There are other cultures, mine in particular, where it is a moral sin and very dangerous to even think about the feeling you took for granted. Many people, to this day, do not have the luxurary of growing up in an upperclass environment where such things are taken for granted. I think this author just asked his friends some of their cutest stories and combined them all in this book as it is lacking in serious research.

Talk about some ideas of a new book.(But keep it to yourselve for now). I read this retrospective on MJ, and the people who dobt it are in the twilight zone! One sad note from BigD, miss lu is with god now from a 6 mo. cancer of head. The auther should get in touch with Big D and little J.

Reading this book for was an opportunity to look in to the most famous love life story, And from a source that is seem to be the first. It's a story about true love and relationship. It let you see that love has no limits, and most definitely no age limit. Jordie chandler was a teen-ager when he met Michael Jackson for the first time, he had lots Of admiration to him and was eager to be next to him. No doubt that his family condition at the time Contribute to his attraction has it revealed in this book, Jordie does not deny that he Enjoyed being with Michael. So what is the problem? Society is. Relationships between tees and adult are known to be all right Has long has they are not being Out in Public. We grow up to believe that this can not be normal and should not be excepted or tolerated. Most people would even think to reject it, just has they would any other non-heterosexual relationship. The truth is that such relationship can be wonderful and joyful just as Romeo & Juliet were. Has mention in the book, sometimes it is the Younger that initiate a relationship (romantic that is) With an adult. These are Normal kids that instead of looking for Girls at the schools prom they look for "Older brother". not every parent may approve, but lets face it , it is reality just as gay and lesbian teen's are. Thousand of young teens log on to the various IRC channels, i.e.: (#gaydads4sons) on the Internet every night, in their search Of adult love. Many of them find what they look for and live happily as they can be.

It makes me sad to see this book. Jordy Chandler never had a souch diary as this. Jordy's father Evan Chandler (co-writer of Robin Hood: Men In Thights) extorted Michael Jackson through putting out souch charges of child-molestration. Sadly, not many people know that the police of Santa Barbara and LAPD served a strip-warrant on Jackson, they were to examine Jackson's nude body,... non of what they found matched what the Chandlers said. Chandlers said that Jackson also molested Brett Barnes, Watt Robson and McCauley Culkin, these were among the about 60 (children in 1993, not children anymore!)children the police interviewed. None of them had anything bad to say about Jackson! The police looked through all Jackson's video-tapes, books and other personal things. They found nothing to prouve any serxual misconduct on Jackson's part. So drop the subject! If you don't believe me, call the LAPD or Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office and ask for yourselves! All of you who claim this book is false should read the article in this months Vanity Fair (April '03) by Maureen Orth. Most of the charges are true, and the pictures taken by the Police of Jackson's genitalia were an exact MATCH to the description by Jordie Chandler, according to Orth and the police records she reviewed.

Michael Jackson doesn't want you to read this book, and that is why it is so hard to find, as he has people going around buying them up. You should buy this and make copies for all your friends.

The accurate portrayal of the honest experiences of a gay man who discovers his true sexuality when he was employed by his church's headquarters office. Although he reports some unpleasant facts about his conflicts in living, this story has the ring of truth. While, no one but the author can attest to the supernatural experiences he reports, this has always been the case with true mystics. The universe holds no secrets and this book is only one way that truth is coming to light. The author ends the story by telling of how he learned to forgive an abusive partriarchal hierarchy and, go on with his life liberated from the lies of his past. The first chapter has been published in award-winning anthologies, including: Wrestling With The Angel and Searching For Your Soul.

I agree with the suggestion on checking out this author's background. You can't believe everything one says or writes. I know this author well...he is a relative. And just note, we come from different religious faiths, so this isn't a pro-Mormon commentary.

I would check into the background of this author before taking anything he says too seriously.

I'm not gay but I was a Mormon. Feliz's book literally changed my life because after reading it I was encouraged to start really exploring the teachings and history of Mormonism. The result was I got out and was freed from such an oppressive, soul-destroying institution. Frankly, I thought Feliz's spiritual journey became pretty flakey but his observations on Mormonism and how the Church would hurt people was unimpeachable. Thanks, Tony, for having the guts to say what had to be said.

I am an active member of the LDS (Mormon) Church and I found great comfort in reading this book a few years back. Many Church members will automatically disregard what this man has said. But most of that is because they don't want to look past their own fears. Look past your own fears and read this book from cover to cover.

Excellent dictionary. Very comprehensive. My only complaint is the size of the type, which, at times, blurs Sanskrit characters. Nevertheless, I highly recommend it as a part of any Sanskrit scholar's library.

for me, just reading the tiny script was just too much..
my eyes were watering after ten minutes trying..

i have used it a few times - with magnifying glass - but be aware of this

Let me make clear what is so concise about this book. For one thing, it is exclusively Sanskrit-to-English; there is no English-to-Sanskrit section. For another, the Sanskrit words are written only in Devanagari script, without Roman transliteration. There isn't even a reference key provided. Because of this, I would recommend this book only if you are already familiar with Sanskrit and just want a reference that will fit in your pocket. Otherwise, you might want to find something else, although I'm not aware of many other choices.

Concise it certainly is. The small paperback book contains little extraneous information--however helpful it might have been--and its verb forms seem to be sadly lacking. Were the shortage of information the only problem, I might still recommend the book with only a few reservations; however, the devanaagarii script is so small and smudgy that at times it's difficult to even make out what a particular word is supposed to be. For travelling scholars or those who only need a small reference for reminder's sake, this might be a good, inexpensive pick. However, for beginners a more comprehensive and comprehendable dictionary would be a good choice.
