An excellent book covering many of the issues of war and peace that were raised by the First World War. The only drawback of this book is that the author, Mr. Barnes, did not have, at the time of his writing, the wealth of documentary information that is now available. This information would not only have strentghened his principle concepts, but would also have changed his presentation of the role of the British Empire in the events he documents. In spite of this books dated provenance, I would recommend it to any serious inquirer of twentieth century political and military history.

Beautiful companion to _I Know What I Like_

If you like Genesis (I'm refering to the British rock band, not the first book of the Old Testament), or if you just love good photography, then you will love _From One Fan to Another_ by Armando Gallo. Make sure to also get _I Know What I Like_ by the same author/photographer. _I Know What I Like_ contains the story of the band from the sixties through the eighties, and it includes many awome photographs, some in black & white and some in color. _From One Fan to Another_ contains a bit of text, but is mostly a ton of color photos that tell the band's history in a visual way. Some of the photos are just the fellows at home or on the street, but the most striking ones are of the concerts with light shows that match the brilliance of the music. Even before they became successful enough to afford expensive light shows, Genesis made remarkable use of what little budget they had, and this can be seen in photos of their shows from the seventies.

Great book, a must read

This book is a must read for any fan of history, George Washington or Kentucky. The research done to create this book was incredible because it gave me a real sense of what was actually transpiring during the US expansion toward the West and of the speculative land acquisitions by the property barons and the politically elite of the day. It was also very interesting to read some of George Washington's letters which provided me with real insight into his intelligence and wit. In my opinion, this is history at its best, which sheds light on the self interest that motivated many of our founding fathers, which motivation has fostered one of the greatest economic powers of all time, the United States of America. This is far from the normal, dry and boring history book that I have become accustomed to over the years. I recommend it highly.

Fantastic, funny and smart guide. I especially appreciated the sections on transportation and food - great info on bikes and rentals, and you can eat amazingly well even if you don't have alot of dough. This being my first visit to San Francisco, I was especially pleased with the scope of information packed into this guide. But even someone who has been to SF before, like my boyfriend, will find the Cool Guide indispensable!

Excellent introduction to all areas of Trust Law
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2000-05-22
This short (238 pages) tome covers more aspects of Trust Law than any of the larger hornbooks I've read (such as Bogert's Trusts, 6th Student Edition). Best of all, where particular aspects of trusts vary from state to state, the Gilbert Law Summary on Trusts takes pains to distinguish between the pre-existing common law rule, the current rule in the majority of states, and the current rule in the minority of states.

Due to its brevity, this work cannot delve into Trust Law in as great a depth as ALI's Restatement of the Law of Trusts, and contains only citations to the relevart court cases rather than the text of the cases themselves. However, it provides an excellent starting place, even if you're already familiar with most aspects of Trust Law and merely want to find out something about a more obscure area of Trust Law.

Many unscrupulous organizations sell sham "pure trust" systems on the Internet nowadays, and each one of them makes some egregiously wrong assertions about how Trust Law works. Your best weapon against these snake-oil salesmen is to know how trusts *actually* work, and what they can and cannot do -- and Gilbert's Law Summary on Trusts is one of the best places to start learning.

The Best Book for DC Families
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2006-03-04
Other guides may be useful for vacationers, but if you live in the DC area and have kids, this is the book to own. It comprehensively covers kid-friendly places from the classic (Glen Echo Park) to the relatively new (Exploraworld in Columbia). My mom had an earlier edition of this same book thirty years ago when my brother and I were growing up, and we both recommend it highly!

This very well illustrated 66 page softcover book is an essential for anyone wanting to learn how to spin, how to make handspindles or anyone who would like to further their knowledge about this age-old craft. The author tells us about the many styles of handspindles, how they are used and how they are made. Further, she covers information about spinning different types of materials (including: cashmere, camel, mohair, angora, alpaca, linen, cotton, silk, and wool). There is a great section on spinning techniques that was very useful to me when I was first learning how to spin. This little book covers spinning from the Hooked High Whorl Spindles to Double Cross-Arm Spindles and from and Navajo Spindles to simple drop spindles. I was also impressed with the pictures and designs of all the different distaffs (again from plain to very ornate). This is a very complete little book and a pleasure to read and use!

A timeless tale for all

When father cat takes his three frisky kittens to the circus, there is mischief to be found. But it is not just the kittens that get into "sticky" situations, Orlando himself gives a stellar performance when he gets in the ring! All's well that ends well for Orlando the marmalade cat when he and his kittens return home to tell mother about the adventure they have had. Orlando's Evening Out is a wonderful bedtime story. The timeless illustrations will delight those with a passion for nostalgia (like myself) as well as the child in all of us. This enlivening classic tale of the marmalade cats' excersuion will capture the hearts of all who read it. My daughter could not get enough; we read it three times the first night! Whether you enjoy the Orlando collection or you are just looking for an endearing story for you and your children, you will adore this book!
