We recieved Slinky Malinky as a gift last year and read it so many times that the book fell apart! All of these books (any Slinky Malinky and Hairy McClary) have the cutest stories about mis-behaving animals interacting with each other and wreaking havoc for the humans in their lives. The illustrations are great and the stories are short enough that my one year old and three year old can both sit and enjoy them. I highly recommend any of the books in this series. They are just adorable.

Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy is peppy and bouncy and looking for fun. But what he really wants is something to chase and for a dog that often means cats. Hairy Maclary begins his rampage.

Through the course of the book we are introduced to quite a few of the local feline community. But they are all quickly chased away with only slight effort and no real chance for a good chase. But then Hairy Maclary spots one more twitching tale and a long chase ensues. But who is chasing who?

My kids love the Hairy Maclary books with its colorful illustrations, cute and funny animals, lyrical verse and plenty of fun. This one is somewhat reminiscent of the first in the series (HAIRY MACLARY FROM DONALDSON'S DAIRY) but still fresh and a delight. Some of these cats are truly adorable even to do fanciers. Check it out.

We've been reading this, the hairy MacLary and other Lynley Dodd books for 5 years now....started when my son was about 18 months, and still going strong! There is as much in the language for a 6 year old starting to read on their own as for the shared experience with younger children.

Lynley Dodd and Margaret Mahy MUST be New Zealand National Treasures.

Delightful

This is a delightful book, the language is great and the pictures wonderful. Most of Lynley Dodd's regular characters such as Slinki Malinki and Scarface Claw make an appearance as Hairy Maclary bounces along through the pages in a boisterous mood. I love reading this one to my three year old niece. The words have a real rhythm to them and the story has just enough suspense to keep little ones interested. I have not yet read a Lynley Dodd book that I don't like - but this one is a real favourite!

I have six or seven "analysis of algorithms" type texts and this is a favorite. From time to time when coworkers notice the title on my bookshelf, they give me some grief for it, but I vigorously defend it. It is a very practical text (as opposed to just theory). I have a bookmark in the section on random number generators and like to point out the a reference about one of the methods: X(n+1) = [a * X(n) + b] mod c. He refers to about 150 pages of Knuth's The Art of Computer Programming for an excellent theoretical description as to how a, b, and c should be chosen, but then summarizes in less than a page a "good" way of choosing them that yields results good enough for most uses.

I stumbled upon this great book in algorithms called "How to
Solve it by Computer" by Dromey. I came across it when I was
finding material on the classic work by Polya "How to
Solve it" (1957) which is not directly related to Computer Science.

Dromey has applied Polya's work to CS and has even dedicated
his text to him. Although the book is fairly fundamental,
the style is excellent. He starts with the most obvious (not
so good solution) and *incrementally* builds on that
solution till he refines it to the most optimal solution.

The book also discusses relatively advanced materials like dynamic programming and Longest Monotone Subsequence.

The book was written in 1982 when Pascal was prevalent, so
the solutions are in Pascal, but nonetheless its a true
classic !

A must read book

This book "How to solve it by computer" is a must read book for those who want to be programmer. Dromey he teaches each and every problem in the easy and understanble way.He does't use any particular language to solve all those problems, he just uses psudo code engish like language. Any persona who wants to be programmer should first read this book and then only start learning Porgramming languages.

This book should be treated as Bible. It starts with very simple examples as swaping two numbers and goes in depth taking you along with it. I have not found anything as good as this in many years. It gives a beginner programmer much needed confidence very soon. It does not use much programming language (It uses pascal syntax...but pascal is almost English). If you are entering into programming field..start with this book. You will never forget "How to Solve it by computers" in your entire life. This book has no shelf life. You will never need this again....but you cannot do it without first time. Computer Algorithm teaching at its VERY BEST!

This book was an excellent read and tells a wonderful story of the power of family and faith. It should remind people that most people are genuinely good people who are drawn down less that desirable paths in life. Thankfully, the love and family and a strong faith can bring a lost soul back.
I couldn't put the book down once I began reading it - I finished it in the doctor's office with tears in my eyes. A heartfelt story that can touch anyone who reads it and encourage them to re-examine their ways.
Kudos, Jessica!

You will accompany "Stephanie," a modern century prodigal daughter, in her heart journey of fun, frustraion, despair, confusion, fear, pain, education, riches, love, and shattered dreams into true reality, clear direction, and deep hope, love, joy, and peace! There is not one dull moment in the story! Teens, young to older adults, singles, married, moms and dads will all richly enjoy and gain from this book. "I Took the Long Way Home" is a great gift giver. Each person I have given it to thus far have been wonderfully affected by it. What a testimony of the amazing grace of God!

The author tells her own story of veering from a Christian life of loving and serving the Lord, to a world many more of us, as teenagers, experienced: rebellion, deceit, and the belief that, at 16, we know what is best for ourselves. This is an amazing recount of the lives of Stephanie's parents, how they found the Lord, and how they nurtured this love of Christ in their daughter. It is a heartwrenching tale of parental love, loyalty and support, even while facing their daughter's teenaged pregnancy. After reading this book I felt uplifted and inspired, and had a much clearer understanding of my own "way home" to a more fulfilling relationship with the Lord.

This INSPIRATIONAL story of a young girl who has opened up her very heart and given us a glimse into some of the deepest hurts, the understandable fears, and the most blessed joys that a human being can experience in life.
This was truly the BEST book I have ever read. No other book except the Bible has made me cry so much, laugh so hard, pray ,or thank God for saving us, as much as this book did.
It is a must read. Max Lucado, Stephen Ambrose, Calven Miller, were some of my favoriet authors and as good as they are Jessica Parenti is now my #1 can't wait for Her next book

This is a wonderful account of transformation and redemption; a woman of the world becomes a woman of God. A fast paced page turner, we track the life a woman searching for answers, a woman who, by society's standards, has everything yet in her heart has nothing. After much soul searching, she finds her answers at the beginning, where they have always been. She returns home, literally, metaphorically and spiritually and thankfully embraces her long lost faith.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has lost their moorings and is searching for the path home. I look forward to the author's next work.

I read ICND by Cisco Press before. I found this book used on Amazon and bought it just because it was cheap. Now I can not put it down. This book is far better than Cisco Press' ICND. It has about 100 more pages than Cisco's. To me it is worth every minute spent to read this book.
I passed CCNA in December. So, I don't have the exam pressure. I am reading this just for fun and enjoying it.
I strongly recommend it over Cisco's ICND if you intent to take CCNA test.

I just finished reading this book cover to cover and feel very confident about moving on to the next stage of my CCNA preparation, practice tests and simulation! I've been using the CCExam software from CCStudy.com as well as a few other practice tests and am amazed how easy a lot of the questions were after reading this book. Just an indication of how comprehensive this book is.

More important, in my opinion, is the book's "readability"! I'm sure there are numerous books that cover the exact same information as this book yet might not be written in a manner that is clear and simple to understand, especially for Cisco newbies like myself. This book is just a lot of fun to read.

Finally, I really enjoyed the "real world" tone of this title. It isn't written for someone who's bound for the testing center, but rather for someone who needs to apply the knowledge at work in the field. I'm certain that I'll constantly be using this book as a reference even after passing the exam. Very cool.

All in all, I'd like to recommend ICND to the Cisco neophyte who's looking for that great "First Book" to start off his or her Cisco library. I'm really glad I got this book and I'm sure you will be too.

Good luck on your CCNA!

THis book was simply amazing! I thought the plot was a little predictable and I kind of saw the end coming (but all my friends who read it couldn't). It was full of irony and weird twists. I think at the end it started to contradict the writing in the beginning. At any rate, the book was really good! I thought it had a few querks but all of the writing was awesome! There was great detail and everything was so believable! I thought it was great! But, since no one else has said this, it is a thrilling spine-tingler, but, some parts are kind of disturbing, I won't discourage reading it but there are a few creepy parts, to give yall fair warning. Thanks for reading my review.

"If He Hollers" is a suspense book written by A.G Cascone. It's setting takes place in a small town in present time. It is about a group of friends who saw a kidnapping, and tried to foget it, until ten years later.
There are four main characters you need to know: Stacey, Eric, Mel, and Jimmy. It was Stacey's sixth birthday party and all the kids from school were there, when Bobby Crawford was kidnapped. There was only one eye witness a girl named Mel. She saw the kidnapper and blamed herself for the kidnapping. She wished she could have ran out and stopped the guy. Instead she stood there and screamed as little Bobby Crawford was dragged farther and farther in to the dark woods. Exactly ten years later, the kidnapper comes back. First he take Stacey's brother and then Stacey. Jimmy, Eric, and Mel are all worried, and the police say that they most likely just ran away. No one will help them. Mel finds the courage inside of herself, and goes to find some clues in the woods. She finds a can of beer, the same brand the police found after Bobby Crawford disappeared. She brings it to the polce station and they match the finger prints of the kidnapper. Still the police have their doubts.
There was a lot of irony in this book, or a twist in events. While your reading this book you think you know whos the kidnapper is the whole time, when all of a sudden the books rotates a 180 on you. Nothing is what it seems. I think there is a strong surprise ending. You'll never guess who it is. There was also a lot of imagery. When Mel described the woods, I felt chills going up and down my spine. The characters were probably the strongest part of the book. It described all the characters so well. I felt like I knew them all of my life.
This was one of the best books I have ever read. I read the whole book in one day. I just couldn't put the book down. It was that good. I started at nine one night and just kept reading all night. I would recommend this book to anyone. It's simply the greatest.
In conclusion, I think you should read this book. I really enjoyed reading it. I dont really like reading, I find most so boring. If you're like me you won't want to give this book a chance, but please do. I promise you won't be disappointed.

The writer is witty, charming, devastatingly wise in her "hindsight" and a gifted story teller. This is the best book I've read on relationships. The author tells it like it is. Too many times women question the reactions of men. Why did they do this? Why did they say that? What was he thinking? Why didn't he...? This book explains it all. It also cautions women to stay true to themselves. Sometimes men want to change women into want they want instead of having what they need. This book explains what we all need...some sanity in the dating world.

I love how Gina expresses her stories in an informative yet entertaining form. I'm almost sorry to enjoy her writings at her personal expense, but somehow I feel that we can all relate or learn from what we read in the "G Spot". The author writes with a pace and description that puts you right there with her. You experience what she and/or her acquaintances experience as you live through the relationship episodes within the pages. Surely Book Club material, this book is a great sitcom waiting to happen!

This is Dr Vasey's genuine account of his personal relationship - from childhood onward - with the very real but mysterious world that lives in close communion with our more mundane physical one.

It is not meant to proselytize or teach nor does he present himself as someone special. Dr Vasey simply outlines the reverence, love, fear and laughter that any good relationship should have - in a manner that can only come from someone who has directly experienced it and not from someone who wishes he had.

In Inner Journeys, Dr Vasey offers a first-hand account of what is involved in beginning (and continuing) to study the mysteries. In relating the relevant bits of his own life story and the first several years of his formal occult training, he discusses the day-to-day process of training, the reasons why he (and many others) began training and how that training has affected his life, both inner and outer. Though this not a how-to book, he does give a couple of exercises for the reader and descriptions of important skills like visualization and meditation.

For a not-yet-beginner like myself, this book makes a valuable contribution to the decision of whether and when to undertake esoteric training. It also provides a list of recommended reading and links to several organizations offering training, should the reader choose to go farther.

I found Dr. Vasey's book to be unique not only in content, but in the blend of serious information combined with just the right amount of humor to make it both informative and a really enjoyable read.

Inner Journeys speaks to many levels of experience, which is a rare find. The beginner will find much of interest and value in it purely as a description of practice and process, and the more experienced practitioner will also find interesting perspectives that speak to the deeper levels of personal work. Vasey is open and honest, sharing his journey in ways that reflect back to the reader insights one can only really get from sharing of another's personal journey.

It isn't often I enjoy a book as much as I did this one, and it helped me see quite a few things in a new light on my own path as well. That's a rare gift, as we all know! It's also the kind of book I think I'll be able to come back to in a few years time and find yet more in it. Definitely get it if you haven't already! I think I'm going to have to get a second `loaner copy' as well.

An honest and open look at the world behind the veil. Rarely will an occult author offer up something that doesn't leave the reader feeling confused and completely inadequate. This story gives a sense of warmth that made me feel like I was spending an evening with an old friend rather than reading a book. I was impressed with the amount of emotion the author was able to draw out; the ride induced moments of awe, tinges of excitement and feelings of total clarity. I highly recommend this book to the occultist and non-occultist alike. It gives a meaningful glimpse into the mindset of those working the Secret Knowledge and shows how these practices are neither dark nor evil.

Are you looking for a tale of wizardry, and magical powers? Do you want to read of powers beyond human understanding and the secret words of power to unlock all myteries? Then go over to the fantasy section. In this book you will find an honest and real description of the work involved in the Western Mystery Tradition. The author captures the work and the rewards, as well as the fears and the satisfactions. I highly recommend this book for those who want to know what it is like to really follow the path.

This has become a very useful tool for my adult Sunday School preparations.

It is packed with loads of information not only in the form of Biblical commentary but also in terms of information about people, places, things, and events in the Bible. Also, while Bromiley tends to be on the Evangelical side of things in terms of exegesis (he's from Fuller after all, as are some of his co-editors, one of whom is from Wycliffe), he at least mentions the many interpretations that various passages of scripture have (including neo-orthodox and liberal). He also provides numerous, though at times cryptically short, references for those with the desire to look them up in a good reference library.

One criticism I have is his writting style, particularly in some of the exegetical sections, is a little terse, and more explaination of the Hebrew/Greek would be helpful.

Beware of the new cut-price printing of this set being offered various places for $99.99. The ads say you are saving $180.00, but it's not the same product. The cheap version has a cheap glued binding and no dustjackets. These books are too thick and heavy to be bound that way. With mine, the picture pages in the center just cracked loose and fell out. A 200-page novel that will be read once can have any kind of binding, but heavy reference books that will be used repeatedly are a different story. What looks like a super deal on eBay or Amazon Market is likely to be the cheapo version.

Earlier printings are available used for about the same price, with dust jackets and some of them (not all) have a far-superior sewn binding. It's nice not to worry about pages coming loose, and to have a book that lays open flat. The ISBN does not tell you what you are getting. For example, the May 1993 reprint of Vol 4 has a sewn binding, but the otherwise identical November 1988 printing does not. Maybe there were complaints about the earlier printing coming apart, I have no idea. I don't know whether the set Amazon sells for $176.40 has a sewn or glued binding; my advice is to call Eerdmans and find out before buying. The text is always identical, as long as it's the "Fully Revised" version; I believe the last volume, Vol 4, was first issued in its fully revised version in 1988, the other volumes earlier than that. The first printings of fully revised Vol 4 have 1211 pages, later printings have 1240. The difference is a set of errata pages, which you can photocopy from a library.

As a pastor, I find the ISBE a wonderful tool, not only for study but for ideas. Material from articles on subjects like "peace" or "conscience" provide information and insights not available elsewhere.

The ISBE contributors represent various evangelical positions. The set often includes articles that are barely evangelical, contributors frequently holding to inspiration but not inerrancy. Though I find myself more conservative than many of the contributors, I find the insights invaluable and the thinking scholarly. There's not a lot of the same old same old surface info, but depth and even some original thinking.

Highly reommended for students of the Word, with a note of caution to those of us on the conservative end of evangelicalism.

Excellent!

This is an increadible resource for any serious studant of the Word of God. I bought research both this and The Anchor Bible Dictionary. Both are Well done. Though this one, to my delight, is written from a more Conservative stance. If you appricatiate folks like Chuck Swindall, John MacArthur, Tony Evans as I do, you will enjoy this work. I WOULD HOW EVER HIGHLY RECCOMEND THE DIGITAL VERSION. The folks at Logos really got it right. One reviewer above mention compuer being hard on the eyes. To that I say increase the font, which you can not do on the printed version. I like the elecronic version as a siminary student when i quote from the book and copy and paste it to my paper it carries over the footnotes for me. What a Godsend.

we used this textbook in my high school sophomore first year russian class back in 1975. unfortunately, because i was continuing in german and a heavy science course load, i couldn't continue in the class and couldn't afford to keep the book. later in college i saw students using the same book and wish i had finished it in high school. i plan to get a used copy and study russian again on my own.

This was my original college Russian textbook, and is quite extensive. It is a bit outdated now as the original edition was published in 1975, but overall it was a very good grounding and introduction to the Russian language.

I have a collection of over 20 college textbooks for studying Russian. Without a doubt this is the best ... by far of any textbook encountered. Yes, by far. Very concise, logical, with many pattern sentance excercises which are in English & Russian. The grammar charts and tables in this book are absolutely wonderful. Maybe 5% of the vocabulary is outdated in use due to the changeover from Soviet times; but if you wish to learn Russian as an English speaker then grammar is first and foremost. I have NEVER before written a critique on any book, but this exemplary textbook deserves any homage given. This textbook covers approximately 2 years of college Russian. Good Luck!!!!!!!!

This textbook by Stilman and Harkins is definitely my key resource for learning the Russian language. I have learned far more from this book than I did from the two conversationalist based texts that I used when studying Russian for two years at college. I'm convinced that any native speaker of English needs to learn Russian with a rigorous approach to learning the grammar, because the case differentiation is so crucial and difficult to master. This book is a first year Russian textbook, so it will be good for the introductory student as well as for someone who has some familiarity with the language. The lessons are clearly and logically presented with excellent explanations of Russian grammar, clear and concise declension charts, and extremely useful pattern sentences (in Russian and in English translation) that illustrate the principal grammatical objectives that are emphasized in each chapter. This allows the student to be cognizant of grammar while also developing an internal sensibility to the natural syntax and rhythm of the language. This textbook teaches you not only useful phrases, but also explains why, grammatically, they have to be in a particular form. This is essential for really learning the language. Stilman and Harkins also infuse the chapters with useful vocabulary words that can be learned quickly due to their organized approach to the lesson plans.

Even though this book needs to be revised and updated (this edition, even though it is still in print, is the edition originally published in 1972), this is by far the best textbook for learning the Russian language that exists. I hope instructors begin using this user-friendly text again, because it is ideal for classroom use as well as for students' independent studies. This book is so well planned that students can easily read ahead of their classroom lesson plans and not feel lost, because Stilman and Harkins teach the readers everything they will need to know in order to read and write correctly in Russian.

I first used this book when I took four years of Russian in high school more than 30 years ago, and have kept this book for reference all these years.

This book begins with the Russian alphabet and simple words, showing the learner how to pronounce them and how to write them in both print and cursive. There are written drills of progressively greater difficulty. There are also blocs of paragraphs depicting ordinary conversation in Russian.

The cases used in Russian are covered, along with the usages of each: locative, genitive, dative, instrumental, and nominative. Subsequent chapters build on the usage of these cases.

Every chapter end has a section on vocabulary, common expression, and a short review of previously-covered content. There is a Russian-English and English-Russian glossary at the end of the book. There is also an index of pertinent grammatical forms and manner of usage (e. g., the days of the week, verbs of riding, expressions of sickness, and many others). The content of the book also gives brief insight into such things as Russian geography, Russian writers, etc.
