I just finished reading this book. I really got a lot out of it.

I must say I was a bit leary at first about Abraham and the authors. I still can't quite buy into the idea that everything I ask for is given to me, or that the authors are so confident in their healthy emotions they cancelled their medical insurance or that every disastor victim attracted their misfortunes with "bad vibs."

Having said that, it is truly a wonderful study in positive thinking and really simple, but effective techniques to improve your emotions and outlook on life. That part really does work! All and all I got a lot out of the book and am thankful I read it. Do I beleive every work as it is written, let's say I have my doubts. Read it with an open mind and take for it what works for you.

I've read a load of bestsellers on manifesting personal desires including this one, and I found they all have one thing in common - none mentioned karma, which I think is the ultimate challenge in fulfilling your desires. Why are so many people struggling with sickness every day? Why are there so many women looking for years for a mate? Is that because they don't desire them or they are not clear on their goals and desires? These books are there to make you feel empowered, but will your reality change? Not until they address how to overcome karma. And I hope one day, there will be a well-rounded book that talks about balancing desires and karma.

As I myself have been trying to practice the Law of Attraction, I found this book helped me to realize a very important point. You can ask, believe but to receive you must consciously and deliberately be aware. I have found myself in default mode meaning if you are not consciously aware it will not happen. They also give you processes (excercises) to achieve your goals. Similar to this book and one of my favorites that also show you how in a workbook format and gives you exercises is Living The Secret Everyday: My Secret Workbook

Outstanding addition for those who have enjoyed the series. Many details are clarified and explanations for why are given. A must for those who have read the books as they were published and forget the minor subplots over time.

Delivers What It Promises

Fans of this (some say too wordy) time traveling series will find a generous amount of information given here, both of the behind the scenes sort and simply of the type that details and hopefully enhances an understanding of the colorful world Diana Gabaldon has created over the past decade and a half. As they've moved from Scotland to North Carolina, England to France, from the twentieth century to the eighteenth, the characters of these novels have certainly lived eventful, albeit imaginary lives, and in the pages of this encyclopedic overview, much is, as promised, explained by this likeably down to earth writer. Gabaldon has cordially taken the time to answer the questions readers have most often asked her, listed and given short biographies of everyone (sigh, yes everyone) who ever appeared in her hefty books, has talked about settings, customs, legends, histories, and anachronisms as they've related to her 4,000-plus page-long saga, and has probably unintentionally turned out yet another work so massive it will bend the shelves of almost any bookcase.

Of course for those (um, like me) who bailed out after getting through the first book and who might wish to read condensations of Gabaldon's epic novels in order to see what came next, The Outlandish Companion is a time saver, because it includes dense, thorough, Cliff Notes' like overviews of every book in the series the author had released up to the time of this guide's publication. Personally I found spending two hours reading a couple hundred pages of overviews was more enjoyable than investing three months in her novels, but I know fans of the series will glare at me for thinking so, and I respectfully understand why.

All in all I'm tempted to say a hard-core fan might get more from The Outlandish Companion than someone who has casually read her works, but there is still much here to catch the eye. Frankly, there is also a lot contained within that the book would have been better without. Like her novels themselves, this reference work was too wordy, too self-indulgent, and heavy enough to leave your chest bruised if you try to read it in bed.

Possess it at your own peril...

Not exactly what I expected but overall a good companion for the Outlander series. I think it was worth the price just to find out how to correctly pronounce Laoghaire (which in my mind was pronounced as Log-hair).

I almost enjoyed this book as much as the series books themselves. It brought back so many wonderful points I'd enjoyed and forgotten about, questions remaining to be answered, thoughts of other readers that enjoyed the series as much as I did. This is a great gift for anyone that's read (and looks forward to perhaps more) Gabaldon's Outlander series.

From the age of 9 months to 2 1/2 years 'Giggle, Giggle, Quack' was my daughter's absolutely FAVORITE book for us to read to her. Story revolves around when Farmer Brown goes on vacation Bob is left behind to watch the farm. Duck causes trouble by writing silly notes that make the farm animals lives much more fun and exciting while their owner is away. From ordering pizzas to bubble baths to movies and popcorn, Duck shows how sly and intelligent he is!! This story is written incredibly well and the artwork is wonderful. Still on the top 5 of books all-time that my daughter loves, this was THE book for awhile and you can't say that about many things young children adore! Wonderful, fantastic, a gem of a book!!!

Do you like silly stories? Do you like when someone gets into mischief? If you do, then you should read Giggle, Giggle, Quack by Doreen Cronin.

There are many times Duck gets into mischief. Throughout the book, he writes fake notes. One of them gave the animals free pizza for there food. In this book, the pictures are very exciting. On page 4, the animals are eating pizza when Bob isn't looking. Also, the storyline is very funny and interesting. On page 6, Duck writes a fake note about how the pigs take baths in a bathtub.

In conclusion, this was a very silly story. The animals get into a lot of mischief. If you like these, you will like this story.

First something becomes a cornerstone of society then you parody it and that is when things start to get fun. Think of a book that you would write if you could jam every conceivable plot clique and character into 600 pages; Friaser did all that.

In typical buccaneer fashion there are damsels in distress, great escapes, sword fights, evil Spaniards, upright British officers, rouges a treasure, great men of the age and a whole lot more. There is also a handy 30 pages or so at the end to help the unwary separate fact from fiction.

A very good investment all round solid gold.

Now that I've read all of the Flashman series, I went searching for something else written by George MacDonald Fraser. I came upon a book that he wrote some time ago entitled "Pyrates" (yes, that's the way he spells it).

This book is a hilarious spoof on all the pirate movies of the late 1930s...Errol Flynn, John Barrymore, et al. Our heroes are handsome down to their chins, our heroines are "real" blondes, at least according to Fraser (taking after Mickey Spillane's "I, The Jury"). Our villains are so evil that one even keeps losing his dentures.

But, as always, Fraser's writing has me guffawing as he (writing from the vantage of the 1980s) portrays things happening in the 1600s in current terms; ie, castaway sailors in the Indian Ocean were arrested by the Burmese Coast Guard and found guilty by a Burmese court for "fishing without a license".

This is one heck of a read.

A tale that must be told

A brilliant book by one of my favorite authors. I stumbled on it by accident, while looking for Flashman. In a sense, this is even better: Flashie can sometimes get repetitive, but Fraser keeps this one moving. Virtually everyone and everything plays out in strict accordance with Pirate Cliche, with the exception of the cliffhanger ending. Walls between the narrator and the audience are broken down, so that Fraser can explain, for instance, what the background music or camera-eye view would be if this were a movie (and it should be-think of "Airplane","M.P. and the Holy Grail" and a solid Errol Flynn movie rolled into one.) I could say a lot more, but why bother? You should be reading the book. Trust me.

This has long been one of my favorite books. I've read it over and over so that I need to replace the copy that is falling apart. One does need to be familiar with the old pirate movies of the 1940s and 1950s to appreciate some of the jokes, but it is definitely in a class with the sort of antics that occur in Disney's Captain Jack Sparrow movies. Plus it has the added bonus of telling you what is real history and what is pure fancy on Fraser's part. My favorite character is the anti-hero, Col. Blood, who really did exist, no doubt with the same personality traits that Fraser has given him. I not only am ready to replace my copy but prepared to buy others as holiday gifts for the Captain Jack fanciers on my list.

The funniest book you'll read in years

Imagine the fantasy and imagination of The Princess Bride; take the joie de vivre of Pirates Of The Caribbean; mix it a little with the eccentricity of Carry On Don't Lose Your Head (leaving out the tackier parts of the humour) and then take each of your favourite pirate stereotypes (bad guys, good guys, black spots, needlessly evil Spaniards, sword fights and derring-do) and turn it into one of the most joyous and hilarious books you'll ever read. Oh, and some of the characters really existed, too, just to add a slight historical edge.

The Pyrates is perhaps the funniest book you'll read all year, perhaps it's the funniest book you'll read in many years. For a long, long time I thought it was the funniest book I was ever going to read.

One gets the clear impression while reading this book that GM Fraser, the author, has thrown caution to the wind. Normally his books are considered, paced and quite recognisably scholarly, for all their adventure and humour. With Pyrates, however, we get a writer having the most fun he's had in years, and sharing it with his readers.

Reviews can be used for many purposes; the purpose of a review may be to critique a novel from a particular standpoint, or it may be to throw interesting light on it by placing it in a broad context. The possibilities are almost endless. In this case, I'm going to nail my colours to the crow's nest:

I'm writing this review simply to tell you how much I loved this book, pass on some of the happiness it gave me, and thoroughly recommend that you get a copy of it as soon as you can. I hope it makes you laugh out loud as often, and as heartily, as I did!

As a dedicated fan of TOP CHEF from the very first season ,who always wonders what I would do with the challenges (despite the fact, I'm only a "wanna be decent cook"), I bought this book because I always wonder what ingredients are actually available to use in the TOP CHEF Kitchen for those challenges.

Afterall, how could anyone create some of those "out of the vending machine in 20 minutes" or "canned food" dishes without a few extra ingredients? What, I wondered, if I were doing the challenges would I be able to use?

This book delivers on that question and more . While, apparently, the pantry ingredients for each challenge are TOP secret - the list of staples provided regularly and recipes from the various challenges - give a good sense of what the challenges truly consisted.

Judge perspectives, unique profiles of the contestants, recaps of the seasons and challenges, and sample applications --- all make this like a behind-the-scenes tour with old friends. Plus, it's laden with beautiful food pictures - and enough cooking tips, ideas and information to keep any amatuer chef happy.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR ANY TOP CHEF FAN.

I also purchased Think Like a Chef, which is the selection you want to go for if you're more interested in cooking great recipes and learning about Tom's culinary perspective, than the behind-the-scenes look of the show (you won't find online) this one provides.

My son got me this book for Mother's Day. I took it into work to share with my other Top Chef fans and didn't see it for a month. We all loved it. It was very interesting to be behind the scenes of the show. I've tried some of the recipes and feel that I had to take creative license in preparing them. Zahtar? Not available in Tucson, Arizona. Would a teaspoon of it make a difference in taste? I have no idea. That's what I mean. But it's all good fun and if you are a TC fan, buy the book.

This book brings clarity to a complex and often confusing subject. After co-writing several CD-ROM games, I thought I knew what I needed to know about interactive entertainment. This book made me realize how much more there is to this world and the vast potential that's there for creating new forms of entertainment and education. Instead of making you feel overwhelmed by the possibilities, Ms. Miller lays it all out for you in ways that are not only informative but actually inspirational. The chapters are well organized and the real-world examples are plentiful. On the one hand, it's an indespensible reference for anyone who writes (or wants to write) interactive material. On the other, it works as a muse, helping you to see things in a new light and often sparking ideas. It's a must for those who want to work in this field.

DIGITAL STORYTELLING
Carolyn Handler Miller

From sitting in front of the camp fire to sitting in front of a computer, story-telling has always been rewarding, yet often frustrating. The challenges of telling a story using different media, particularly a new one, can be intimidating, especially to someone who wasn't born with a mouse in their mouth.

Not to worry, though, for in the first chapter of Carolyn Miller's book, she lays those concerns to rest by noting that interactive stories are similar to myths, rituals, and games. I immediately felt better and dove right into this comprehensive book.

DIGITAL STORYTELLING is valuable on a number of levels.
It's a scholarly revue and investigation of interactive media and thus an excellent resource for researchers.
It explains the terminology and theories.
It offers specific tools for digital storytelling development of plot, structure, and characters.
It has guidelines for specific uses of digital storytelling such as information, education, and advertising.
Children's projects have their own helpful chapter.

As a story consultant moving more into games design work, and as a writer desiring to keep up with the latest techniques and technologies, I know I'll be reaching for DIGITAL STORYTELLING a lot. And I know I'll always find it a rich resource of information and inspiration.

Not a very playful book. In fact... it seems to follow the old playbook of how things are done. The same playbook that men/boys have written when it comes to gaming. Shoot first and ... questions? what questions? story? What's that? I already knew the material that was in this book. Didn't offer anything new for me. With this book... just a play an online game or grab a game off your shelf, read about the history of "interactive" media and computers and .. voila... you've read the book. For what I needed... this book just did not cover it. Time to lay some new ground in the gaming arena.

Kanbar spills all his secrets about how to be successful at inventing, where 'inventing' means more than just coming up with a gadget idea. He goes into great detail about marketing, naming, patent rules, etc, in a personable style. Sometimes, I got tired of hearing him blow his own horn, or plug his products, but I forgive him. That is what he does for a living, and he can't stop. The back has useful legal forms, and many refs to useful books and web sites. My favorite part was about how you must look around you and see problems as opportunities. Thanks, Scott!

This book is a refreshing and crisp read brimming with solid, practical, and note-worthy information. Mr. Kanbar helps us to avoid common and costly mistakes while teaching us how to become a keen strategic planner.

His delivery of these lessons is smooth, appealing, and non-complex. Moreover, the contact information provided both throughout the book and in the appendix will be of interest to any inventor.

Overall, this is an enjoyable read packed with plenty of palatable substance that won't leave your head aching in morning.

Maurice Kanbar is clearly a great man, and perhpas he even knows it a little bit but then he should. He has multiple successes in the decades that he has been an inventor and writes candidly about the journey of his life in this path.

Many "inventing" books can seem over bearing and difficult to read This memoir is a nice starting point for the wannabe inventor. It answers a lot of "start up" questions and even provides the very NDA that Maurice himself uses!

It's such a low price too that I would reccomend any inventor (or fan of memoirs) pick it up as it is well worth the price.

If you consider yourself an Inventor, or think you may want to become an Inventor, and you love listening to yarns about products and how they came to market, then this book is for you. Maurice Kanbar is a trained engineer and has many inventions to his credit. Many of his inventions are successful (36 patents) and some are household words. Some of Kanbar's inventions are not so successful and to his credit he airs his laundry willingly so that new inventors need not make similar mistakes.

It is hard to classify "Secrets from an Inventors Notebook". To begin with, the title might more aptly be called "Musings from my Diary" or "Did you hear the one about... ".. After reading only a small part of the book you are immediately struck with the quality that has made Maurice Kanbar successful in a wide range of endeavors, he is a first class promoter and his enthusiasm comes across clearly in the book. Like many good storytellers, sometimes you simply have to take the story for it's intended teaching point and not be too critical of the details. Buried in the prose are many bits of solid advice on developing and bringing a product to market.

Maurice's style is likeable and you find yourself wanting to sit down and have a beer with the author and chew the fat about inventing. That is both the charm and the pitfall of "Secrets from an Inventors Notebook". There are many anecdotal stories about how products were successfully brought to market or how they failed (both Maurice's and others). Some of these lessons are consolidated into Kanbar's Commandments for Inventors. Other lessons are in the form of good general advice; get a good patent lawyer, work on your prototype diligently before committing to production, and market your product heavily. What the book does not do is get into the gory details of how to do any of this. This is a "What To Do" book, not a "How To Do" book. If you have already done some studying about the business of inventing and are ready to dig in seriously, you may not find much in this book for you. There are only a couple of pictures in the whole book and no charts or numbers of any kind.

This book is light (5 chapters in 168 pages) and easy to read. The storytelling style should appeal to anyone who wants to get a glimpse of what is necessary for an entrepreneur to get a product to market. It might be right at home in an undergraduate business class studying entrepreneurship. There is an Appendix with a decent bibliography, references, and several sample legal forms that entrepreneur's might use. "Secrets form an Inventors Notebook" is a good lighthearted introduction to the world of the inventor and entrepreneur by someone who has been there.

I had no idea who Maurice Kanbar was when I picked up this book. I was browsing in my local bookstore, saw "Secrets..." on the shelf, thought it looked interesting, forked over my [money].

Kanbar says friends, co-workers, etc. have consistently badgered him over the years to write a book. I can see why. This guy is an amazing source of creativity and perseverance. Forget the "Inventors" title. Anyone with even a smidgen of entrepreneurial zeal can benefit from the chock-a-block common sense crammed into this small volume.

The range of this guy's impact is stunning. The innovations tumble forward, one chapter after another. Kanbar says it all stems from a simple principle - see something you don't understand, and ask how and why it happened. Then devise a solution that provides a real benefit and market it with a twist.

All the examples are compelling, but the SKYY Vodka tale - which Kanbar saves for the last chapter - brings everything together in a most impressive fashion. He lays it our very succintly:

The problem? He had headaches after drinking.

The reason? After study, scientists tell him that the distillation process leaves impurities, called 'congeners.'

Solution? A distillation process that eliminates the congeners.

The benefit? Drinking in moderation with less irratation.

The entire book reads just like that. Great takeaway lessons for anyone. Get this one on your bookshelf ASAP.

Actually, I would give this "book" NO STARS, but there's no tab for that.
Let's begin with the title to Chapter 29: "Who Needs N*ggers?". I asterisked that so it wouldn't get edited out - he of course spells it out. That should pretty much wrap up the essence of this fabulistic screed of pseudoscience, limp-wristed white racism, anti-semitism and a surprising anti-Christianity. This epistle to the mindless is at least written so that its target audience can read it: it is an endless series of single paragraphs. I am presuming this is so it can be read with one's finger pointing out each word, and thankfully for that same audience there aren't any big words, either.

If, as a previous "reviewer" said this is "the second greatest book ever written", obviously that Dick and Jane reader was the only other book they ever read - and slowly at that. What "white man's bible" seems to mean - not to give away anything important - is that the existing bible is too "polluted" with Jews. What a briliantly racist revelation! Or is that Revelation? The only other major criticism is that the paper is too stiff to replace that Sears catalog that's hanging in the outhouse...

Without a doubt a brilliant book. One in a series of great works done by the very observant Ben Klassen. This literature is a culmination of seeing the problem and making a solution. This is a very "down to earth" religion focusing on the preservation of the White Race.As you read through, you will be transported into the past, the present, and the future. The way Klassen has predicted events will give you shivers and make you really assess the situation.Read if you want a life-changing outcome.

It made me much more racially aware and politically active than I ever thought I would become before reading it in 1997. I even lost over 100 lbs following the raw food diet, which Klassen recommends as the ideal diet for the white man. I have more self-respect as a result of my increased awareness of the great heritage of my ancestors. Thank you Amazon for selling this book! The court system ordered all copies destroyed in 2003, but it's wonderful to see the age of banning subversive books is over!

This is the most important book that a member of the human species (whites) can own. In the Twenty-First Century, we of the proud Europian ancestry stand on the brink of extinction, because over the period of the last seventeen hundred years, we have been in the slow process of destroying our survival instincts in favour of brotherly love, thanks to Jewish Christianity and other programs of propaganda that are now culminating with alarming acceleration. Ben Klassen takes you through the whole story of our decline as a people, citing examples of self-destructive thinking, and never failing to define what should have always been the obvious line between fact and fancy. He even includes a letter published in Century Magazine in 1928 by a Jewish writer, one Marcus Eli Ravage, who confesses very boastfully about the great Jewish plot (Christianity) on their enemy, the Romans, and how they have continued throughout the centuries with similar, quiet, insidious schemes to bring down the white race, not the least of which is the mongrelization and eventually outbreeding of our genes by encouraging us to mix with other races (except their own).
The author goes back again and again to the inarguable laws of nature, showing numerous examples analagous to the human situation with its cousins, making it very clear that every species has a natural enemy, ours being no exception.
Even though I have long regarded our public schools as an institution designed solely to program our children into good, mindless drones who will think what the media tells them to think without question, I was several times surprised to discover new lies our teachers told us and truths their text books conveniently forgot to mention. Ben Klassen's work starkly shows how dull and listless we have all become to desiring to search for the truth. From beginning to end he pulls back the wool we've allowed them to place over our eyes for so long, and reveals a whole new world. The fact that the U.S. Supreme Court ordered the book destroyed, screams confirmation of that fact. Or the fact that the leader of the movement, Matt Hale, was convicted of terrorism on the preposterous charge of trying to bribe an F.B.I. agent to assassinate a judge when this book, his bible, explicitly describes how and why the F.B.I. cannot be trusted by whites who have caught onto the truth, only further confirms the tremendous conspiracy. An hardcopy of the book for a realistic price is next to impossible to find, but google "The White Man's Bible" and exit the Matrix.

Please ignore the monkeybrain reviewer below, this person is obviously an idiot to have picked up this book in the first place (check out his other reviews, that says enough!) This book is a must read for all Indo-European people who are not afraid to stand-up and be proud of their ancestry and race. Mr. Klassen was a brilliant writer and educated man who felt the need to spread the truth of how the new generation of white people are brainwashed in the melting-pot of today's America. It touches on many, many subjects and every spingle page of this thick book is an excellent read. Unfortunately, it is out of print and most likely it'll never be re-printed (yeah, and this is called 'free country') but it can be downloaded for no cost at the site. Highly recommended.

As a toddler, my mom read to me at bedtime. My favorite books as a small child were of Babar, so I always had my mom read me the Babar books at bedtime and loved them.

A few years ago at Christmas, my mom gave me the "Bonjour Babar!" book which has six unabridged stories by the author! This book is very cute and brings back a lot of memories! It is nice to have 6 books in one collection and recommend this book to all parent with small children. Especially if their children love elephants!

Great fun for the whole family

My husband and I grew up on Babar. So when we saw this book we bought for our 4 month old son. He loves to hear our voices as we read to him and he also loves the bright colored pictures. We enjoy the memories that the stories bring back to us. A great addition to anyones collection.

TIP: We take the dust cover of any of his books that have dust covers and put them in plastic sleeves for later when we are sure he will not rip them up. That way when he is older the book looks like new even though it really is old.

This one volume contains all six Babar stories written and illustrated by Jean de Brunhoff between 1931 and 1937, when the author died prematurely of tuberculosis. After seven decades, Babar the elephant is still beloved by young and old alike. Included are: "The Story of Babar"; "The Travels of Babar"; "Babar the King"; "Babar and Zephir"; "Babar and His Children"; and "Babar and Father Christmas".

From his earliest days, when his mother is shot by a hunter and he is left to fend for himself in the world, Babar is a curious and independent spirit. He makes his way to the city, where a kindly old lady gives him her purse; he purchases "a shirt with a collar and tie, a suit of a becoming shade of green, then a handsome derby hat and also shoes with spats". All decked out in new clothes, Babar is ready for whatever awaits, as he mixes with society, entertaining all with tales of his life in the forest. Later, when two of Babar's cousins arrive in the city, Babar outfits them both in new clothes. Returning with his cousins to the forest in the old lady's elegant roadster, Babar is so impressive that he is crowned King, his new fiancé, Celeste, the new Queen.

On their honeymoon, Babar and Celeste enjoy many adventures and misadventures all over the globe, returning to discover that the herd has gone to war with the rhinoceroses, a situation requiring careful strategy for success. Finally victorious, Babar promises to rule the kingdom wisely, and so he does in the following stories. In "Babar the King", the herd builds a city where all the animals peacefully coexist. There are schools, parks, automobiles; everything is perfect, save those few strokes of bad luck to remind Babar that we must never be discouraged in the face of adversity.

Each story is filled with realism, encouragement and hope in the face of difficulties, magical adventures touched with the give and take of life and the need to overcome challenges with a good heart. With a gallery of friends, Babar's life is defined by enthusiasm, a willingness to care for others and joy in simple things, family and community. Born in 1899, the author created an alternative universe in a country soon to face the First World War, his artistic vision come to fruition in Babar, a character beloved by generation after generation.
