Learn How to Unveil the Mysteries Surrounding ERP
Helpful Votes: 19 out of 19 total.
Review Date: 2001-07-19
For years, companies and individuals alike have struggled to understand ERP concepts and systems. Many books have been written to assist the readers with everything from selecting an ERP solution to implementing the solution. None have addressed these issues as completely as this book.

The simple, concise, easy-to-understand way in which the author, Travis Anderegg, presents the information slowly `strips' away the layers of mystery and misunderstanding that have often been associated with ERP projects - small or large. Not only does a reader gain insight into the history of ERP but also is introduced to definitions and terminology associated with Enterprise Resource Planning.

It is a known fact that approximately 80% of all ERP projects fail. Many times, companies will blame the vendor (they misled us), the software (it does not fit our business), the consultant (they should have told us not to pick this package), etc. Often times, no one was `truly' at fault; it is a matter of not understanding how to plan, select, implement, maintain, and take ownership of an ERP system. This book covers all these areas from the initial decision to consider a company's ERP software strategy through planning, evaluation, decision, negotiation, implementation, and change management. Various critical success factors are identified throughout the chapters.

It also provides diagrams, charts, and questions to aid the reader in `gleaning' the pertinent points from the chapters. The book also points out the `pitfalls' and how to avoid making costly mistakes. The concepts presented in this book can be applied not only to ERP but also to other major IT procurements, such as HR/PR systems, CRM, and DPM. This book can also prepare individuals to pass the CIERP examination and be recognized as CIERP (certified implementer of enterprise resource planning) certified.

As the book shows ERP is very much a people system - not just software. The more educated people are, in regards to ERP, the more likely that a company will be successful. This book is an invaluable resource for anyone who is or will be involved with Enterprise Resource Planning:

· Business executives, senior decision makers, IT/IS managers, Department managers, and Project managers who are or will be in the market for an ERP solution

· Consultants, industry analysts, software vendors, and their staff who are in some way connected with the sales of ERP, as it provides insight into the buying cycle and the "contortions" that companies go through when purchasing this type of technology

· College and University level professors or students in Marketing, Information Systems/Technology and Project Management

This book is filled with all the knowledge anyone would need for preparing and successfully implementing Enterprise Resource Planning.

One of the most complete and sensible guides I've read

The 20 chapters in this remarkable book make this a true A to Z implementation guide. The author starts with a clearly written intoduction to ERP and follows this with a detailed overview of concepts and design. The third chapter covers functional modules that need to be incorporated into ERP systems, which completes the foundation.

Chapters 4 through 8 cover the implemention details, beginning with life cycles and sequences, addressing project teams and transition strategies, and the nuts and bolts considerations of data conversion, prototyping and testing. The information in these chapters is a good basis for an implementation work breakdown structure.

I liked the chapters on organizational change management and consultants, which are critical success factors for implementing an ERP system. I also thought that the chapter on project planning sessions was a highlight of this book and something that anyone who is involved in managing the implementation needs to carefully read.

The remainder of the book covers developing a request for proposal and evaluating vendor responses, total quality management, ROI and other factors that are extremely important to ERP (or any system) implementation project.

Some of the things that make this book invaluable include: (1) clear writing and innovative use of graphics to display relationships, comparisons and workflow; (2) the fact that each chapter can stand alone as a focused and complete discussion of the topic covered, and (3) the common sense approach taken by the author.

I strongly recommend that this book be augmented by Scorecard System For World Class Enterprise Resource Management by the same author. These two books combined with provide you with all of the information you need to select and successfully implement an ERP system that fully meets your requirements.

A great book for who are interested in ERP

The book provides you all you need to know about the implementation of ERP and it'll greatly help build your background on this issue. The book is not about "how" to implement for a specific software but is about "why" and "what" you should know about implemenation. You need retain sufficient knowledge to help your company make wise decisions, rather than let consultants make decision for you and your company. I am a recent MBA graduate and I found this book is a great supplement to the area that I lack from my education.

I wish if i can give this book 100 stars. Amazing Book.....

A must for everybody who is involved in ERP project. once you start reading it you don't want to stop. so smooth and understandable, the writing is very clear and the graphics will help you a lot to understand each chapter. There are 20 chapters each will take you automatically to the other i highly recommend to start reading chapter by chapter. chapter 1-3 gives detailed information about ERP definition and differences between ERP & ERM, ERP concepts and design, and ERP functional modules.

Implementation details are cover in chapters 4 to 8, starting with life cycle, building your project team, prototype and testing and other important implementation issues. I think this is the best book ever written about ERP, don't waste your time searching for other books. You will find everything related to the ERP in "ERP: A-Z Implementer's Guide For Success"

This is a great introduction to the world of ERP. After reading the book I bought copies for all the members of the team implementing the new ERP at my company. It helps you get a handle on the whole process from 20,000 ft, and makes the idea of totally changing the company not so scary. The only problem I had with the book is that the binding was terrible. The book fell apart on my first reading. But I liked it so much, I put in in a two ring binder.

If you have been asked to work on your company's ERP and are not sure what you got into, this is the book for you.

Z. Budapest, one of (perhaps I could even presume to say the "primary") the foremothers of the contemporary Women's Spirituality Movement has just released the third revision to her book, The Holy Book of Women's Mysteries . It was this book which probably saved my life and got me out of an abusive relationship by teaching me how to empower myself. It is far more than just a "self-help" book, however. In my own opinion, this is probably as close to "scripture" as any pagan will ever get. There, I said it, flog me. (No, not really! Notice I said "as close to" -- please notice that qualifier!)

Beautiful Goddess-Woman, Z. gives us the tools to find the Goddess within each of us in this book filled with ancient and practical wisdom, anecdotes, and women's history. Every time I read this book, I learn something new about the Goddess, the world and/or myself.

Excellent book!!!

This is the re-publication of a timeless classic. Z has incorporated new material and photos. The photos of Masika's (Z's Mom) sculptures shows the talent that this line of Women have been blessed with. All Dianic homes should have a copy of this as reference material. The Holy Book is easy to read and understand. Feminists and Women world wide can relate to the various topics and appreciate the old ways of celebration of the Holy Days that have been shared here even if they have not chosen the Dianic path as their own. This work has and will continue to withstand time!!!!

This book is a treasure house of wisdom in the tradition of old Europe, that was largely lost to human-kind after the middle ages passed. For that reason alone, women should cherish it. In Z's voice, we hear our grandmothers speaking, sharing their knowledge of herbs with us, showing us how to read the cards when times are confusing, teaching us to trust ourselves and our inner knowing. Great for discovering or re-discovering the Goddess in ourselves, in the world.

This is the book for you if you think you ar not into physics. Or even if you are. It explains the physics of how ordinary things that we use daily really work. It might even spark an interest in learning more. It starts with the practical and goes to the theory and you can go into it pretty much as far as you want to go. If you have any curiosity about science this is a great book by a master teacher.

Even if you are an inquiry minded person, you are going to find well-designed explanations for the functioning of lots of tools, machines, etc. in the book. Really exciting, rich content, excellent book.

I'm a professor of engineering, and decided to use this book as the primary textbook to give a basic idea, for humanities and liberal arts students, of what engineers do. What a great decision! The first part of the book sweeps neatly through basic physics, which is also, as it turns out, basic engineering. Statics, dynamics, friction, thermo--it's all there, neatly encapsulated in a way that humanities students can easily understand what's going on. The text then moves on to the types of things that really float my boat as an engineer--how refrigerators, car engines, and microwave ovens work. Even though I've been involved in engineering for years, and am a licensed professional engineer, I still learned interesting and helpful new ways of thinking about devices and how things work from this book. Moreover, I think this book helps give non-science and non-engineering students the kind of broad-ranging education they *should* be receiving in a university level. Engineering students, after all, have to study at least a modicum of subjects that relate to world history, English, psychology, and so forth. But humanities students can graduate from college without even having the faintest idea about the workings of the technology that can make their lives so healthy, pleasant and liveable. Call me biased or part of the great NASCAR unwashed, but I think it's just as important for a student to be aware of the essentials of how their refrigerator and car work as it is for them to understand the nuances of Shakespeare. Understanding of the fundamentals of technology also leads to students having a better understanding of the tradeoffs involved in good stewardship of the environment.

Dr. Bloomfield has an extensive list of thoroughly researched demonstrations available through his website. I use some of these demonstrations almost every class day, and students really like them. (I couple the demonstrations with active learning exercises and cooperative learning activities, which helps keep them awake and motivated. I also combine use of Bloomfield's book with readings from Henry Petroski's "Success through Failure, and with short film clips from the National Association of Manufacturers.)

In a study I am working on, I've found that universities that use this text as the backbone of physics courses for non-scientists and non-engineers generally seem to have huge enrollments. That speaks of the giant educational need this book seems to fill.

This is what physics is all about!

You don't need to be a physicist to understand this book. Take me for example, I took a year of Physics in college and this is enough for me to grasp the concepts presented in this book. What's so wonderful about this book is that it goes beyond the mere equations and formulas we desparately memorized before a physics test, it shows that how physics can be incorporated into our lives and improving the quality of our lives. This is a great book for those preparing for the physics AP test and those who simply want to keep themselves amazed.

I saw this book long before I bought it, and after buying it, I was very sorry I took so long to get it! It covers most every aspect of the full restoration of this beloved car. From the frame-up or a little at a time. This book has the info you need, and more. The info inside can not be purchased, borrowed, or stolen for a better price! Alone, this book is not enough, but it's a great way to get the spark ignited. (No single book could possibly have everything, I know, I have bought almost all of 'em.)

This book is great, it takes you through almost all of the steps that you need to completely restore your car, but on a lot of things it merely mentions them and doesn't really tell you a lot about what your supposed to do. What I did was I bought this book and a haynes automotive repair manual(or Chilton's) and I used that for the more technical stuff. This book has 20-30 pages of exploded views of various areas on the cars and also has a list of retailers that sell parts and/or services for the z series. If your trying to restore your car get this book.

karen's friend hannie just got a cat and her friend amanda also has a beautiful persian cat and karen has her father's cat boo boo so she started a kittycat club and wanted them all to be cat sitters, but no one called them cause they were too young(6, 7 and 8 years old) and they had to bring the cats to the meetings and had to own a cat to join or else they couldn't, which effected her friend nancy who really really wanted to join and was more interested in joining it than hannie and amanda were. I think maybe karen could have lent nancy rocky and I think the kittycat club should have continued but having nothing to do with cat-sitting. Also later in the series Nancy gets a cat. Maybe just a get together playtime type thing with all the cats, taking them for walks, teaching them tricks, playing games and dress up with them and cutesy things like that. Still it was cute how karen wanted to be like her big sister Kristy and have some kind of sitting job. Definitely recommended

this book made me love cats and dogs when I first read it in the third grade many, many years ago. Karen's starts a cat club for her and her friends who have cats(She, Amanda and Hannie) but she wouldn't let Nancy join because she doesn't have a cat, but I think Karen could have lent Rocky the little house cat to her for it, that would have been fair. So will the club work or not? Read this to find out.

Karen's Kitty cat club was a great story written by ANN M.MARTIN. This fiction story was a fascinating book. I give it five stars out of five.

The author told me about a kitty cat club. The story explained the rules in running a cat sitters club.

In the kitty cat club Karen wants to be the vice -president. She thinks she should because she came up with the idea for the club. Amanda has a cat named Priscilla and is Karens friend. Hannie is Karens best friend and she likes cats but never owned one. Then one day she decided to get a cat and she named it Pat.

Karens, Hannie, and Amanda now have a kitty cat club. They have meetings on Saturday afternoons. They bring their cats to Karen's house and discuss if anyone got a phone call from someone that wanted a cat sitter.

This story was interesting because there were lots of surprising parts in the story. I thought the kitty cat club would get a lot of customers but it didn't work out that way.

This story was well written because it was easy to understand. It was a fun topic and I recommend this book to those who like animals and who enjoy being part of a club. I think other kids would enjoy reading this book because it kept my attention and interest.

This is a primary book set in pre-1900s Connecticut. The lovely little story could prompt discussion about holiday traditions and life on the farm in the US. The illustrations provide an amusing and exciting crescendo. The teacher may want to use this book around Halloween as a seasonal story about scaring people, which is not a scary book at all. The book could prompt talk about what life in the US was like during earlier periods: When did this story take place? How can you tell? How was Halloween different then?

First published in 1937, Tasha Tudor's "Pumpkin Moonshine" still has a timeless innocence and appeal. It is a delightfully simple story of a little girl on a farm who picks a pumpkin and rolls it downhill to where she can make it into a jack-o-lantern (or a "moonshine," as they apparently called them in New England, way back when...) A simple story made magical with clean storytelling and wonderful art. (ReadThatAgain)

I am a private school elementary teacher, and was given this book as a gift by one of my students. It is a superb introduction to the state, and especially appropriate for children in the third grade and above. Many of the subjects that are included in the book are part of the Rhode Island curriculum, and many of the places included are field trips that our class has attended.

The writing is clear, crisp, and clean, and the drawings are age appropriate and very engaging. I highly recommend this book as an adjunct learning tool about Rhode Island, as well as a fun introduction to our state. I plan on recommending it as a text book for our school system...

Just trying to drive around finding everything in the book is entertaining. Well written with clean artwork,
I highly recommend this book for young and old alike.

We got copies for all of our friends because kids really seem to like it--the coloring part is really, really well done, and they like having the history stuff read to them (unless they're old enough to read it, themselves).

Highly recommended.

Review of Tiffanie Lyons book Sales is not a Dirty Word

I was a technology sales person for many years. I loved being in sales and was very successful but often heard other sales people saying self deprecating things about their profession. I also noticed that my position was often called something different. My first sales position for GE Information Services Division was "Marketing Representative."

So Lyons book addresses a real life situation, not always talked about in polite conversation. She takes the position that we all spend a lot of our life selling even if we think we aren't and especially if we think we shouldn't be selling.

I recommend this book to anyone in the selling profession or considering going into this profession. I also recommend selling as a wonderful job and profession.

Start talking to me about sales, and you'll see my eyes glaze over and I'll probably try to leave the room. Sales ranks right up there with math as not-favorite-subjects, yet I am the owner of two businesses. My holistic health practice easily attracts new clients by referral, but my new publishing business needs attention in terms of direct sales and marketing, and I need to do more to promote my recent award-winning book, "Recapture Your Health." When I started reading Tiffanie Lyon's book, I was hoping for help and direction. And I found it. As I read through the book, ideas jumped into my mind for things I could do - within my comfort zone - to plan marketing and sales approaches for our book. There is so much down-to-earth information in "Sales is Not a Dirty Word." It is written in short easy chapters, which makes the entire topic palatable. The book is part guidebook and part workbook, and is designed to make you THINK. It's short, which is also sweet. One thing I especially liked was the historical background of how selling evolved, and how to sell in a way that avoids the much despised "hard-sell" approach. Ms. Lyon is obviously an expert in her field. And now I've got a concrete plan for book promotion. I will keep "Sales is not a Dirty Word" on my bookshelf and refer to it whenever I need to revise my plan.

This book deserves reccomending and praise

Marketing and selling are confusing terms to nonprofessional sales people. Those who fail at selling simply may not understand these concepts. "'Sales' is NOT a Dirty Word," by Tiffanie Z. Lyon, MBA, helps the reader understand why they are confused about marketing and selling. Lyon goes on to explain techniques of the two very different aspects, marketing and selling, to help make a person successful.

This book is clearly written and simple to read. Questions and suggestions appear at the ending of each chapter, put there to help a person absorb what they've just read. Lyon quotes her sources clearly. She refers the reader to other helpful publications. When a worksheet is suggested, she provides it by referring the reader to her Web site where they can pull down free copies.

This book is quite a nice study guide and is very informative for those who wish clarity on marketing and selling strategies, and who wish a measure of success.

Book Review - "Sales" is NOT a Dirty Word!

"Sales" is NOT a Dirty Word! THE Inspirational Selling Guide for Non-traditional Salespeople by Tiffanie Z. Lyon, M.B.A. is a great primer for people that probably do not think of themselves as salespeople such as attorneys, accountants, and consultants. Maybe you never wanted to be a salesperson, but getting business requires selling if you are an independent professional.

"Sales" teaches basic sales terminology and concepts, provides examples of different approaches, and explains the nexus between marketing and sales.

A feature I like as an adult educator is the combination of crisp, organized writing and reflection. A concept is succinctly and clearly introduced and then the reader is encouraged to consider some questions. Part of the reflection is focused on attitudes, but much of it is focused on understanding how to market and sell our particular business.

I would have liked to have had this book when I was managing lawyers who did account management outcalls. At 133 pages, this plainly written book is a non-intimidating launching point to becoming more effective as a non-traditional salesperson. The book is designed to help people take action. If you are willing to take the time to work through the book's questions, I believe you will find it time well spent.

We had used signs with my daughter from about 5 months, only a few. She really started to use them back to us at about 10 months so we taught her more. For her first birthday a friend gave us this set and now she absolutely loves signs. She takes the flash cards out every day and really is so proud of herself when she gets them right. She's 13 months now and the cards in particular are definitely one of her favorite toys. I'm online now to buy two more for friends.

I really like this kit. I've had it for about a week now and have been learning the songs from the CD. My daughter is 10 months old so we've been signing for a few months but I had come to the point where I didn't know some of the signs I wanted, like "sheep" "ready" "cold" among others. The book is very helpful. It seems like signing would be obvious, just do it. But there are a lot of creative ideas in the book that I never would have thought of. So that's good, makes it more fun. The CD is good, has some really good original songs and a couple of traditional ones. Good quality. I didn't really need the flashcards but maybe we can use them or figure out something creative to do with them. I think it's a good deal because it's a good book and CD. Glad I got it.

Great kit for beginners!

I love this kit. My baby just turned 6 months old, and we are beginning to sign to her (she already recognizes milk). The flash cards are very easy to understand. My 10 year old memorized all the signs from the flash cards in a day, and loves teaching them to us. The CD is great, too. The music is very enjoyable, and the songs are simple, but very catchy; you won't get bored after listening to them several times. I love the songbook, too. It makes it SO easy to sign during the songs because you're not signing every single word. The sturdy cardboard box is a plus. The only reason I gave four stars instead of 5 is that there are two songs with "Mommy and Daddy" in them, and we all know there are many "non-traditional" families out there, and it would have been nice (and pretty easy, I think) to have words that include all children's families. Other than that, it's wonderful.

A Multi-wonderful product!

First of all, this kit is so complete. It's fun and easy to use. It comes with a great CD with beautiful and easy songs to pick up and sign to. It has a book of signs just for the songs. Then, it has great flash cards that are really easy to understand. And finally, it contains a main book of all kinds of signs which I've misplaced do to a move, but of what I remember, it was loaded with info and easy to decipher. I use the signs all the time and sing the songs and she always smiles in reconition when I do. She hasn't signed back yet, but hopefully one day I'll get my reward. If you want to teach your child to sign, this is a fun and easy place to start. It also has a great free website in it that you can refer to. I really enjoy using the kit and would give it a higher rating, but I misplaced the main book before I could use it and so I can't properly rate the entire kit, plus I don't know yet if it works.

LOVE THIS KIT!

I have been signing with my kids for 5 years now--and my kids now are 5, 3, and 1. I was looking for songs to use with signing besides the basic basics..and this book has it all. My 5 and 3 year old LOVE singing and signing the songs with me, and my 1 year old tries to sign along. My 3 year old will just start singing the songs on the cd so I see the songs as easy to remember, fun and appealing to kids. I see this as a GREAT activity to do in the car on trips and a wonderful way have fun together as a family. We have gotten through half the songs and I am saving the rest for our next trip! The signs are easy to figure out from the pictures and its just fabulous! I listened to Monta speak once and she is fabulous too! Definitely a great kit for moms that want to sign with their babies and toddlers. The cd is the best as well to add the music and fun into the whole experience! Definitely a great buy!
