Z Books

This book contains 104 Children's Sermons that use props to engage the children. These props are designed in such a way to make the children active rather than passive participants. There are two sermons provided for each Sunday in Cycle C of the Revised Common Lectionary, one based on the Gospel Lesson and one based on the Epistle. There is a Scripture index in the back. I am a United Methodist Pastor and a graduate of Yale Divinity School and Oral Robert's University.

5 years ago we built our house and the builder (thankfully) forgot to put on a chimney cap. That was when I discovered chimney swifts and have enjoyed them in our chinmeny every year. I've been starved for details about these wonderful friends. When I saw that Paul and Georgean Kyle had written a book I *knew* this would be the book to get. They were the first people I found on the internet when I started researching chimney swifs. Because they also do chimney swift rehabilitation, they have been up close and personal with chimney swifts for years. They really know their stuff. They track the chimney swift arrivals across the county each spring, and they host the "chimney swift night out" each fall. They are definitely the experts in my mind and this book is terrific. Throughout the book there are amazing close-up photographs and wonderful drawings to accompany the text. The writing is really enjoyable, like talking with a friend. A very fun, easy, and extremely informative read. I had a hard time putting the book down each night. They cover topics like swift social behavior, courting, nesting, nest building, hatchling development, flight/maneuvers, roosting behavior, migration times and destinations, etc. They also include excellent information on habitat and what we can do to help chimney swifts. Their population has been declining since the 80s and we need to help. There's info on building a chimney swift tower and more. This is a wonderful book that will teach you all about the life and times of chimney swifts and give you ideas for helping them survive into the future. Excellent book. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat and I'm so glad they wrote this book. It has given me so much insight and understanding into what's going on in our chimney. As I write this now, it's late April in Virginia and our swifts arrived just two weeks ago. I can hear them chittering in the chimney, no doubt discussing where to put their nest :).

James Legge was a 19th-century Scottish missionary to China. This is his translation of the "Four Books" and three of the "Five Classics." The translations are dated, and Legge's interpretations of the texts are often old-fashioned, but these are still important and useful translations.

Of the "Five Classics," Legge translates the Book of Documents (a collection of historical texts), the Spring and Autumn Annals (another historical work; Legge also includes his translation of the Tso Commentary on this), and the Book of Odes. (The other two of the five are the Record of Rites and the I Ching, which Legge also translated, but which are not in this collection.) The "Five Classics" have been central texts of Confucianism since about the time of Christ.

The "Four Books" are the Great Learning, the Analects of Confucius, the sayings of the later Confucian Mencius, and the Doctrine of the Mean. These texts are all quite old, but they were grouped together, and made the basis of the Confucian educational curriculum, around the 12th century A.D.

Part of what makes Legge's translations so helpful is that he includes the Chinese text, along with extensive interpretive notes, introductions, and glossaries. This can be a little overwhelming for the beginner, but it's fun to have all the information in one place.

One caution: This set is normally in 5 volumes. I assume that this edition has combined the 1st and 2nd volumes (the "Four Books") into one volume, but it is possible that this edition does not include all that I think it does.

_____This is an excellent and absorbing introduction to the Civil War. Arranged alphabetically this book will be good starting point for anyone researching the Civil War. The glossary and timeline are helpful additions.

_____While this book is simple to use, the information is riveting. Mention is made of not only important soldiers, but also individuals involved with the Abolition movement, nurses, photographers, Blacks, among others who are identified with this era. The actual pictures of events and people and maps add to the overall usefulness of the book. Readers will definitely want to learn more about the war.

I bought this book for only $6 hoping to learn more about classical music. While not everything is not in here, it is still plenty to digest at one time. Also while there are probably newer and better CD releases the last several years, once again this is excellent for getting your feet wet. It has a two page list of composers it examines, some not so well known. It gives brief biographies of their lifes, giving an effective backdrop to the explanation of works afterward. In describing these works, not only do they give recommendations for the finer renditions of compositions, but also budget cd recommendations for those with economical concerns. I really enjoy this book and use it quite often.

My daughter loves all of the Alpha Kidz books. The colors are eye catching and the stories are not only fun, but teach valuable lessons.

The editors have really done a fantastic job of compiling psychopharm data into one reference. The reference covers medications by category and class using tons of tables and a standardized layout that allows one to contrast and compare. The "extra touches," such as tables of drug interactions, tables listing the effects of each med on specific neuroreceptors, and tables listing the freq of adverse reactions, make this reference a gem. Several other wonderful things have been thrown in as well--a section on ECT, a section on herbal products, and a patient information sheets that can be copied and passed on to patients. In summary, this reference provides a clear and concise view of psychotropic meds. A must buy!

Easy to read. Information content in this book is actualized every year. This work provides a excellent review to rapid consult and is specially usefull to "without time" students.

Once Kalyna et. al bring us a great quick reference book. This is the second edition of the Clinical handbook of psychotropic drugs for children and adolescents and it keeps the same up to date information on all the psychotropics used in this population.
This handbook is a "must have" book for every one that treats children and adolescent swho are on psychotropics. Nowadays there many of these drugs and their benefits are manytimes life-saving.
This is a great book!
I'm already looking forward for the next edition!

Collecting Child Support by Susan Herskowitz is the latest in the Made E-Z guide series, and truly lives up to the promise of its title as it succinctly presents the matter-of-fact truth about child support in America, and how to efficiently go about collecting it legally and confidentially, even from delinquent parents. Although Collecting Child Support cannot replace the services of an attorney, it is extremely practical and helpful guide, and absolute "must" reading to prepare oneself before sitting down at a high-priced legal meeting with legal counsel paid for by the hour. Simply put, Collecting Child Support is essential reading for any parent needing to protect their children with a court-ordered child support obligation.
