My All-Time Favorite Book for Dealing with Chronic Illness

As webmaster of Scleroderma from A to Z (sclero.org), a 550+ site that is available in 11 languages, I have read dozens of health and medical books. This remains my #1 personal favorite due to Sefra's practical advice for learning how to understand and cope with chronic (and often baffling!) illness.

Sefra spoke several times for our state scleroderma organization. She was always lively, entertaining, and a huge hit with the crowd.

Sefra passed away last year, right after another surgery. It never feels right for someone so geniuine and full of life and love, and a comforting shoulder, to be so suddenly gone from our midst.

Thankfully, she left behind her words, her wisdom, and her wit to keep us company. Please get this book. Read it and cherish it, and you will know, for sure, that you are not alone when it comes to dealing with chronic illness.

Good description of grief; contains practical information

Pitzele, who has two chronic illnesses, has really put together a very informative and readable book. I liked her lists and her description of where to put things in the grocery cart. This book should be read in tandem with Cheri Register's Living with Chronic Illness--Register does a better job of handling the emotions, while Pitzele does well at practical matters. I also liked her book One More Day, a meditation book for chronically ill people. One drawback--Pitzele seems to be hard-nosed in dealing with feelings, discussing how people should pull themselves together and be adults. I think there is a time for going through one's emotions, and that is why I recommend reading Register's book alongside.

Faulkenberry's true gift is making the woodcut images come alive on the page. Her portrayals of the sky are van Gogh-esque, with sweeping motion. The animals and their activities are alive on the page: dancing, swimming, boating, and biking--buy this book, you won't be disappointed.

Fun and fascinating facts are tucked away

What Do Animals Do On The Weekend?: Adventures From A To Z is a delightful color ABC book for preschool and kindergarten readers written and illustrated by Lauren Faulkenberry. Each letter of the alphabet features an associated animal doing something whimsical with plenty of alliteration, such as "Kangaroos get their kicks when they kayak in Kenya. Kevin keeps paddling across the lake while Kyra plays her kazoo." Fun and fascinating facts are tucked away at the bottom of the page of each entry, such as "A kayak is the same kind of boat that Eskimos first built to hunt whales thousands of years ago. Kenya is a country in Eastern Africa."What Do Animals Do On The Weekend? is a highly enjoyable and enthusiastically recommended alternative alphabet book.

This work is excellent. It can assist you in getting good quality
health care cheaply and in some cases for free. The author
lists a health care provider for each disease process.
In addition, he makes readers aware of free government programs;
such as, the Hill Burton Act and the National Institutes of
Health. He provides an 800 number for your physician to call
and arrange free or low cost hospitalization at the NIH patient
referral line . In addition, the author lists drug manufacturers
who will provide you with free or significantly discounted drugs.
The book is a worthy investment for any library.

This is the second book of theirs that I've bought. They are great because they are up to date, and so helpful. With each store, it has the address, phone number, opening hours and everything else about it that can be of use. They give good descriptions of what the store carrys and a tid bit of info about the owners etc. At the back of the book there is a few restaurant picks as well. Another great thing about this book is that it caters to anyone of any financial status. There are high end stores and stores geared to people with a budget in mind. The only possible bonus they could maybe include next issue would be a few photos here and there, but really, in general, this guide is great for helping you choose the best spots to go to and you can narrow down what is and what isn't of interest to you. Although I know Los Angeles very well, there are a few stores in here that I may not otherwise have known about and for that, I'm happy to buy a copy every couple of years or so.

Willieworld is absolutely marvelous. I found it to be hypnotic and powerful. It was impossible to put it down. The mixture of prose and poems is unusual and wonderful. The author handles this highly volatile subject matter with such passion, humor and grace, I was astounded. I will be keeping a sharp eye out for more writing by Maggie Dubris. I highly recommend this short book. I don't think you will be disappointed

dark jewel, apocalyptic vision

This is a dark little jewel of a book, sustained not by plot, but by the apocalyptic glimpses of the city and the stark intensity of the writing. I had to read it in short sessions, because it kept taking my breath away. Not a happy book; in fact, sinister, but painfully authentic art.

If you enjoy historcal based comics, this is a great comic for you. The story lines are all interesting and the comics are well drawn. I like that the stories span different cultures and different time periods, not going in a striaght line of time, but going in order. I espeaiclly like the vistion of the future, and if you are interested int he back ground of the witchblade and how that affects sarah, this is a great book to read. Highly recamended.

Whether you are a fan of the comic, the book series, or the television series, you will enjoy this one. It is based on the comic book and, therefore, is made as such.

The Witchblade and its owner(s) are just as tough as ever!

I was glued to this one! Awesome!

This book helps to show the link between the Christian faith and the United States of America. We're reminded that all gifts come from God and that "Abundance is the attitude of God." On reflection, we're told, "It is perhaps a fault in all of us that we do not treasure the best parts of our lives as we live through them."

Americans are optimistic by nature and this is based on the way the nation was founded he writes. He goes on to talk about being open to the dreams of the Holy Spirit, to the call of God on one's life. This influence of Christian optimism can be found in the names of the places established by the settlers. He reminds us, "New England Colonials were so in love with God's providence that they gave a small town in Rhode Island the name." The very name is a Christian doctrine, he adds. This is an encouraging book that will brighten your day.

Kinkade's "With Wings Like Eagles" will restore a sense of pride in America to even the most hardened cynic. Biblical passages are woven with reflections on our country's history to show that our nation does indeed have a purpose in God's plan. Given what the citizens of America went through with the 2000 presidential election, it would be easy to lose heart about our political process. But just sitting a while with this book, and reflecting on the great but simple values that built this country, will rouse in the reader a sense of pride and purpose that goes beyond political partisanship and bickering. With Wings Like Eagles shows, both through its writings and Kinkade's paintings, that the greatness of America lies not only in its Constitution but on the moral fiber and values of its individual citizens.

This book is wonderful! Number one it can be used over and over again. Each number is introdeced by itself with several expaples the child can trace and then plenty of room for them to try it on his/her own. After every few numbers there's a review page that recaps everything worked on until that point. There are lots of counting activites and games in it as well. My 4 year old daughter liked it so much she did the whole book in one sitting and wanted to do it again!

My kids love it!

I bought this for my 5 year old son, but my 4 year old girl loves it too! I especillay like that it has eraseable pages, so they can use the book over and over again (which they have)! It gives them both the upper case and lowercase leeters in the same book and plenty of space to trace and copy them. There are also great activites that make them look for the featured letter sentences. We look forward to getting other books in the series.
