This is a great book for beginners as well as the seasoned gardener. Very easy to understand language and a lot of pictures. Anyone who has ever considered propagating their own plants either from seed to grafting should really consider buying this book.

THE only book you'll need on propagation

Filled with lots of photos and charts. Very thorough listings broken down by propagation category (seed, cutting, division etc) and genus listing best time, requirements, time required etc. I've been a plantaholic for about 25 years and was amazed at how much the book had to offer. With all of the photos, charts and descriptions it should be detailed enough for the beginner too.

I love this book. Beautiful color photos of propagation. We use this in our class for Master Gardeners for reference. I like the way it has seperate lists for cuttings and division and seed germination. This makes it for fast look up. I bought one for home use too. The reference part tells season to do propagation, strike time or germination time and temp. All around good reference guide.

This is an intriguing mystery with rich and colorful characters you can really grow to care about. It leaves the reader wanting more. This is a hard one to put down. I found myself trying to unravel the mysteries whenever I was torn away from reading. This is definately a classic. Can't wait for book 2!!!

This is a great book. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. Not only does the book lead you to places that you simply wouldn't expect, the characters feel like people you might actually know. The author writes in way that lets you experience life as "Zack" does. The only down fall is having to wait for the second book to come out.

We meet Zack Owens and his mother Lisa in the beginning of this book. Zack is a high school student and a really great young man. He is being raised by his mom whose husband disappeared years ago just before Zack was born. Where he went or why has never been known.
Zack was passing the time waiting for his mom to finish work one day. Looking through some old books, he opened one on the Middle Ages and an old piece of paper fell out. As Zack examined this paper he read, "The Pledge of the Three." He seemed to be supernaturally drawn to this pledge and took it home with him to further investigate it.
It seems when three people who fit the description needed speak the words of this pledge lives are changed. One will become wealthy and famous, one will remain the same, and one will die. As Zack investigates The Pledge on the internet he finds a website. Upon opening the site one sentence glares out at him, "You have been chosen!"
As the story goes Zack and his two friends decide to take the Pledge, not really believing it would work, but once spoken it seems it has, or has it? Just what is going on?
As the story moves along Zack's mom wins the lottery and one of Zack's friends dies. However, there is more then meets the eye in these happenings and Zack is just beginning to unravel the mystery behind, "The Pledge of The Three." A Pledge that Zack finds out involves his father and his disappearance, but how?

This is an outstanding book; with book one having more questions than answers and keeping you on the edge of your seat in anticipation. I was glued to the pages hoping for just a small hint to what was happening. However, Mr. Smith nicely weaves the mystery in you giving just enough information to hook you, no more, no less. Good job!
He also does an excellent job in his character development, drawing you completely into the lives of each one as the story begins to unfold. This book is laced with emotions of young love, friendship, family loyalty and morals yet sprinkled with mystery, deception, lies, and sinister works. Just what is the meaning behind "The Pledge of The Three," and in solving it will Zack place himself and his loved ones in danger or will he finally find out what happened to his father and why?
I can't wait for Book two to be written; I simply have to know the answers. This is one outstanding read, don't miss it. Top recommendation. Superb!

When I was first charged with the lightning bolt of the promise of software possibilities, I found this book. It helped me see how to view a microprocessor's capability in a comfortable, natural progression of understanding. It provided me what I wanted to know where I expected to find it. The references to related information, missing in most documentation, always seemed to be both appropriate and conveniently located. It was as if Zaks knew my own, unique desire to learn and how it naturally unfolded. It felt as though he had prepared each of the steps that I would need by having been where I was. It served me tirelessly as a reference until it fell apart. Books of this type are hard to find today.

When I was first starting to program I came across this book. It was not only a well written, complete reference on the Z-80, it was a perfect reference book. Now, when I program, I generally need several reference books hanging around. Mr. Zaks said it all, cleanly, concisely. Any success I had in my later programming, I have always felt that his book was at the core.

The Third Book In A Fun, Interesting, Peculiar Series

I've said this before in my blog, but these Project X books are the kind of books I wished I'd studied in business school: As case studies in product design, as primers on the business culture differences between the US and Japan, as studies in how far people will go to succeed--the Project X books are simply fascinating.

While I'm not a Datsun fan myself, I am certainly more informed about the car now. But more importantly, what I found most appealing about this book, was how the creators manage to make the reader feel the importance of what's happening.

Put it this way: To the outside observer, watching some middle managers try to make a business venture work probably sounds as fun as reading a Powerpoint presentation--but Akira Yokoyama is able to make the reader feel like they're watching something epic and monumental, conveying exactly how the business people in this tale are feeling as they work hard to make their shared dream a reality.

I got this book not knowing what it was. A comic book read backwards, and right to left to boot. I thought I was getting a history book on Nissan and the Z car development.
It was a Great Book! It had a lot of early drawings of Datsun products and really told a great story and put all the Datsun characters and history into place. It was a light reading book and can be read in one evening. It will be in my Datsun book collection forever!

This manga tells the story of the development of the Datsun 240Z. It depicts the challenges faced by the designers and proponents of the vehicle, both from within the company and from market forces. It depicts the businessmen involved properly, as heroic individuals, who overcome obstacle after obstacle in their pursuit of success. The manga demonstrates the virtues necessary for businesspeople to succeed.

I discovered this book in the library, and have since used it to teach classes as well as individuals. Some of my students have even used this book as a self-teaching guide. It is an absolutely wonderful pronunciation guide for any level of ESL student! THE GOOD: The book employs a wonderful system for helping students learn the sounds of English. It has lists that differ by only one sound (ex. Sip & Zip) to illustrate the differences between similar sounds. It then tests the learners' hearing by having them choose which word they hear in a sentence where either word would fit! It goes on to provide practice with many words, sentences and dialogues. Then, after an activity, it summarizes all the ways that the sound can be spelled. THE BAD: There really isn't much! If anything, I would say that the mouth illustrations at the beginning of each chapter aren't really that helpful. And sometimes my students question me about the phonetic spelling that is used to introduce a sound. OVERALL: This is an absolutely wonderful book that can be used with anyone - from true beginners to advanced students! I would recommend it to anyone teaching or learning pronunciation. If you are going to use it to learn on your own I would recommend getting the cassette tapes.

A very usefull method for pronunciation pratice

This book is very useful for students who want to improve their fluency in American English. The usage of sounds in contrast is a powerful tool for those that have some difficult for distinguishing English sounds. The authors go depth on American pitch and intonation, driving the student towards the achievement of true American accent, just like a native has!

I totally agree with statement. I'm also in the same boat. Had the revision in my hand many of times, but never bought it, being it was only 2-3 years. A lot of bands of the 60s and 70s didn't make the book (i.e. Foghat, Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush, Robin Trower, and Spooky Tooth which was previously stated). My book looks like its been run over by a freight train, and I need a new one. Let's get the book revised soon please!

This is with out a doubt THE greatest rock & roll encylopedia ever written. My copy is from 1989 and I once saw an up-dated version from 91-92 (unfortunately didn't buy it). Have been on the lookout for a newer version ever since so I was highly depressed to see that Amazon.com has it listed as out of print. All rock fans should bombard the authors/printers with requests to publish an updated version.

I have to say i am a little biased in my opinion about the book....my oldest daughter Lauren is the author of the poem in the front of the book...of which i am very proud...my younger daughters Emily age 71/2 and Katie age 3 absolutely love the book...Emily is a beginner reader and loves to read the book to her younger sister..it not only helps her with her reading it encourages her younger sister to do the same as well as teaches them about listening to your parents and the events that follow all your choices...I am trying to place the book in Emily's school library of which i am certain will make a wonderful addition. Emily is already anxious to read more about Roger and Rosie, of which I am glad to hear her say...Mom...i want to read it again! We need more books to stimulate reading in our children. Thanks again for this wonderful addition.

I am a Speech Therapist for the Lafourche Parish School Board and enjoy reading this book to all my speech impaired children! (They also love it!) It is a wonderful book to teach vocabulary, problem solving, critial thinking, predicting possible outcomes and comprehension skills. The book takes you on a journey that is taken by 2 little raccoons. This journey is taken after their mother tells them to stay inside their home while she is away. The 2 explore the outside world alone and learn about different dangers. They are very scared and realize a very valuable lesson of listening to their mother. They are also taught that dangers are harmful and should be avoided. I recommend this book to all speech therapists, teachers and parents! Your kids will love to hear about this wonderful adventure!

A Very Good Life Learning Tool for Kids

Review Date: 1999-06-16
I consider this book to be a 'very good life learning tool' to assist parents in teaching kids the difference in wrong and right. In order to accomplish that mission in teaching through reading, one must create a character (roger the raccoon) that will capture and hold the attention of a child. A raccoon is an animal that is easily identified by a child due to the black rings around its eyes. The character must be unique for that specific animal to be identified as the only one of its kind (red-banded tail); such as Big Bird. When a child thinks of Roger, he or she will remember the lessons learned by Roger and his life experiences that relate to the child that is reading or listening to the book being read.

And I'm not going to give away the whole book to you, but it wasn't too scary that I didn't want to read it. It was just the right amount of scariness.

The birth, life, and death of mystical schools
Helpful Votes: 22 out of 22 total.
Review Date: 2000-08-26
This is one of the most remarkable books I have ever read. Most books about spirituality focus on the individual: self-development, or developing one's personal relationship with God. This book focuses on the development of entire schools of mysticism, from their birth to maturity to death.

Halevi's background is primarily Kabbalah and astrology. However, his perspective is much broader than these particular paths. He frequently provides examples and analogies from other paths, which he describes with respect and even admiration.

To a large extent, this is a handbook to guide a "tutor" in the formation of a mystical group, the basic unit or subdivision of a school. The author clearly speaks from his own experience when he discusses developmental stages and problems that challenge tutors as well as students. Entire chapters are devoted to topics such as Star Students (rivalry to be #2), Crisis, and Dull Times, as well as Sacred Space, Building the Temple, and Networking.

A major theme of this work is devotion to the truth and channeling inspiration from higher worlds to this one. One of the risks of this endeavor is the tendency to focus too much on the tutor or master. Here is one of Halevi's cautionary comments (page 35):

"For example, there is often the powerful leader who is seen as master, and the faithful close to the throne with the various degrees of lesser beings stratified in rank according to their commitment to the guru. In a real esoteric school the first loyalty is to the Truth, not to a person, but very often we find the personality of the leader is the draw, not the veracity of the Teaching. As a seeker becomes involved in larger groups so he or she should be aware of the criteria by which they are run, because very often what began as a genuine gathering for the pursuit of wisdom becomes a personality centred institution with all that goes with such organisations, with its bureaucracy, its petty rules, and its public relations department."

Halevi gives careful attention to the notion that each school has its own destiny. Like any living being, a school has a finite lifetime and a specific purpose in the greater scheme of things. Some readers will find his remarks about the final stages of a school to be of particular interest, for example (page 201):

"The end of a school may be instant, in the sudden decease of a leader who leaves no one of sufficient calibre to carry on, or it can be a genteel decline of an ageing company which spends its last thirty years in what becomes a pleasant esoteric social club."

Halevi describes the life cycle of schools with honesty and compassion. The last third or so of this book focuses on the ongoing process of a school after it has been built. The author devotes an entire chapter to Blossom and Decline, in which he provides "signs that indicate the decline of a school that has done its job and is being phased out" (page 265):

"An example of the early stage of this phase is seen in a blind faith in the school, a little over-confidence and a certain amount of arrogance. People start to assume many things, take every rule and role for granted. The creative tension is no longer present and tutors begin to become dogmatic. Students quote without thought and act according to instruction."
