This slim volume is a storehouse of invaluable information. With over 6,000 entries, GLASS FACT FILE provides the collector with a resource which will be referred to again and again. Besides the entries, there are sections on bottle marks, museums with glass collections, glass collectors' clubs and associations, and Internet resources. The attention to detail in this volume is simply amazing!

Aptly titled "fact file," this is an extraordinary resource for quick and handy information on GLASS in practically every category one might wish to explore (manufacturers, methods and techniques, types and designs, marks and signatures, etc.) Arranged alphabetically (with helpful cross-references), the author has assembled a massive amount of material -- over 6,000 entries! -- covering all aspects of glass world-wide, from the 1800s to the most recent productions. Precise, concise, accurate, and happily affordable, this comprehensive volume is destined to be an indispensable reference source for all students and serious collectors of glass.

This is an excellent volume that introduces readers to regression, factor analysis, and structural equation modeling. It is accessible, but does not "dumb down" discussion of the techniques.
For example, with structural equation modeling (SEM), one wants to know how well the model does in explaining the actual data. Keith does a nice job in laying out what the researcher would look for in making sense of the results--and assessing how well the model does. The author's discussion of SEM in this book and in chapters/articles published elsewhere is a Godsend to those of us who see the value of the technique and need some guidance in its use.
This would be a nice volume for advanced statistics classes and is well worth considering as a textbook in such classes. For those who use statistics in research, this is also very useful.

This is an excellent text. The content knowledge required to understand and use multiple regressing analysis is presented in real-world easy to follow language, meaning the concepts are explained in a way that is easy to follow, but at the same time, the heavy content is covered. Although the title does not explicitly convey this, the book provides excellent
instruction in structural equation modeling in addition to MR. There are also online data bases available for students to access for practice. As a university professor, I highly recommend this text for course adoption.

My son received this recipe box for his fourth birthday. Though he can't read the full recipes yet, he loves going through the box and alphabetizing the letters, and is keeping track of which recipes we make and which we have yet to make. We've probably made about half of them so far, and there hasn't been a dud in the bunch. It's probably worth it just for Nifty Asian Noodles, which has become a standard lunch and dinner in our household (we double it). The Whole Wheat Pretzels are also a huge hit. We've just had a great time making these recipes together, and it's nice that they're not all cookies (we had done quite a bit of cookie baking together up until this point, and it's nice to make some savory recipes with him too). He also loves the stickers that are included to stick onto the recipes after you make them.
I'm buying several of these to give as Christmas and birthday gifts. These are just the thing to have in your gift closet, if you're geeky and organized like me and have such a thing.

This recipe box is incredible. I purchased it for my 6yr old for her birthday along with an apron and kid oven mits. We have only done 5 recipes so far but all of them are very good, pretty healthy and most of all - fun and easy for kids. My daughter begs at least 3-4x a week to make a new recipe and hasn't let up. The premade recipe cards aren't laminated but they are made of wipable material similar to board books which is nice. There is one for each letter of the alphabet and they act as the divider for each letter once you add additional recipes. She can read them herself and does about 90% of the recipe on her own. They are not too simple or basic like sandwiches or chocolate chip cookies but aren't anything extensive and time consuming either. There are appetizers, breakfast lunch and dinner items and of course desserts! Some examples are: vegetable soup, lemon hummus dip, blueberry cobbler, cheese fondue in a bread bowl, whole wheat baked soft pretzels, honey cookies, zucchini sticks, "surprise" muffins, johnny cakes, cheesy mac and cheese etc... The extra cards (26 of them) are made of thick stock paper. Once we start adding recipes onto them, I will laminate them myself so they survive longer. Even though I love the idea of adding your own recipes, I truly hope there is an option in the future to add more premade recipes. The cards each have fun facts, variations of the recipe and cute pictures. This is available at in store at Pottery Barn Kids. Great birthday present to give to kids ages 5-10. Highly recommend!

Yummy recipes, easy-to-follow instructions, cute illustrations, all wrapped up in a nifty recipe card box. The recipes are fun and healthy versions of foods kids like to eat. I have three kids and try very hard to encourage them to eat nutritious foods -- versions of old favorites like Cheese-iest Cheese and Macaroni and Nifty Asian Noodles make it a lot easier to ensure that they are eating healthily and having fun too! My kids enjoy cooking and they love eating the foods they prepare. Now, I just need to teach them to do the dishes and I will be able to take the night off!

Overall, this book is great. The author is a very knowledgable, articulate advocate for women's health (provided by natural, healthy lifestyle choices).
My only complaint is that the book needs an index. The book is organized by specific health issues. Often, information overlaps or is inter-related among various issues. There needs to be an easy way to find the references throughout the book for specific topics or areas of interest.

Dr Berksons research and expertise are present on every page and will not only help simplify your confusing health decisions, she also guides you to make powerful, tried and true choices. A great handbook for women of all ages.

Maverick General Motors executive skewers GM management

Excellent book detailing the failings of GM. Mismanagement, inefficiency, illegal tactics and blatant disregard for the public interest are described. This book ranks with Ralph Nader's work. De Lorean describes his rise from Packard to Pontiac division of GM, where he made a failing division successful, then to the Chevrolet division, where he greatly boosted profits through sound business practices. He was then promoted to the "14th Floor" at GM, where he was a good candidate to become the head of GM. But he gave up. He could not stomach all the problems that he saw. Instead, he left GM to set up his own company. Good book to read if you are interested in why big corporations act as they do. It reveals the inner workings of GM. It is broadly applicable to many corporations. A classic.

DeLorean is a very observant individual: it takes about one page of this book to figure out how smart DeLorean is. His critique on GM is often incisive and leaves you feeling that he was the only rational man in an irrational organization. His deconstruction of the GM organization leaves little unscathed: the browbeating of dealerships by the GM salesman; the planning committees that designed cars whose front ends would fall off after 8 miles; management's unwillingness to incur even minor expenses to make the infamous Corvair safer. More than anything, GM management comes off as incredibly rigid and totally unable to adapt to a changing marketplace where its big cars were seen as inefficient dinosaurs. Gripping like few books are, reading this book can only leave you more enlightened about how not to run an organization. This is one of the most enlightening management books I've ever read and I recommend it highly. DeLorean's subsequent downfall only adds to the tragedy of this book.

Lets face it, when we deal with learning about Photoshop and all the different color palettes it offers, filters, effects, etc., one can only profit from color pictures; the entire book has color photos. This makes this book an excellent buy over other Photoshop tutorial books that show their photos in black/white.

I thought I knew it all till now!
I've been a Photoshop user for many many years. I would go so far as to call myself a guru of sorts. I've read plenty of tutorials and bought more than my fair share of books and manuals. So when it came time to review "Photoshop CS A to Z" I figured I would have a great tool for quick referencing menus and filters and such. Boy was I surprised to actually learn some stuff too!
When you first pick up "A to Z" you'll probably be a little let down. The cover to the book is just horrible looking. It is an ugly green with purple accents and an all around ugliness. The anti-aliasing of the cover lettering is jagged and bad, and just trying to think up something that isn't a slam on the cover art is impossible. The book looks awful. Now open it. ZING!!!!! The layout is great. There isn't a page in the entire book that isn't lit up with pictures and diagrams. You can tell from the first page that this is a great great GREAT reference guide.
The book, as implied by the title, is a reference guide to Photoshop CS. It says CS on the cover, but truly this will actually help users of Photoshop CS even down to Version 7. The book doesn't have chapters, but rather is broken into parts by "letter." So for the 1st chapter, "A", the first thing discussed is "Actions" and goes in depth explaining how actions work, what they do and tips on using them. The tips are awesome, and actually give pointers on how the pro's use actions and point you in the right direction of usage. After "Actions" is "Active Layer" then "Airbrush" and so on. This book touches on every aspect of Photoshop and even delves into resources and elements that are just slightly related to Photoshop (i.e. "Artifacts" in compression or even plugins related to Photoshop)
This guide is for every user of Photoshop. If you need to know what the "Posterization" is? Well, it is on page 126 and "it converts the images into a number of brightness levels between 2 and 255 to produce a graphic effet. 2 is too harsh, 255 too subtle. A good balance is between four and eight." Did you know that there is a "Patch tool"? I didn't and I use Photoshop every single day. In fact - this gem of a tool is buried under the "Healing Brush Tool" and I had never used it, but after I found it - wow, does it make my life a little bit easier. And to my astonishment, the "Patch tool" has been around since version 7 (kicks self in the butt).
This book is amazing. It belongs on every designers coffee table, and another copy right next to their computer. Let's face it, Photoshop isn't an easy little proggie that you can learn in a day. Photoshop is a massive program. It is over loaded to the extreme, and it keeps getting more and more loaded. People who use it everyday don't even know all of
its potential. I'm a testament to that. This book is a great resource for anyone serious about learning Photoshop. It really makes an overwhelming program like Photoshop a little
more usable.
If you liked this book, try the new version Photoshop CS2: A to Z, as well.

If you're one of those people who learn things through visuals and pictures, and what Photoshop user isn't? It covers the new stuff in CS (PS v. 8). It's a virtual illustrated encyclopedia. Great page design. Just enough screen shots to make the OS X user happy (and some for Windoz too). Covers it all A to Z just as the cover specifies. I high recommend this.
