The book is very interesting and useful for teachers whom use the lecture and demostration method in teaching chemistry. The experiments are well tested and one can create some other new experiments taking the basis from this book. I recommend the whole series (Vols. 1 to 4). Dr. Shakhashiri is a talent chemistry teacher and he transmits his enthusiasm in teaching this science.

All teachers of chemistry should have access to this book.

This is the first volume in Shakhashiri's unequalled Chemical Demonstrations series. There are over 80 demonstrations in this book, each one with a list of required materials, a detailed procedure, notes on hazards and disposal, a discussion of the chemical principles involved, and references. The demonstrations cover the areas of thermochemistry (Chapter 1), Chemiluminescence (Chapter 2), Polymers (Chapter 3), and Equilibria of Metal Ion Precipitates and Complexes (Chapter 4). Included in the introductory text is an article by Richard W. Ramette entitled "Exocharmic Reactions" which relates how chemical demonstrations for teaching purposes have evolved and what qualities the successful demonstrator should possess for maximum impact.

There is absolutely nothing so good as a demonstration for getting students interested in chemistry and keeping them interested. Demonstrations may take a bit of extra work on the part of the teacher, but they are worth the effort, and the effort is minimal when Shakhashiri has written such a magnificant collection of useful experiments.

This Book is Great!!!

I acutally love this book for chem demonstrations. Shakhashiri gives in depth explanations for all of his demonstrations and it is just a great book. I recommend this book to anyone who is doing any demonstrations.

I am a first year teacher and this book has been the best investment I've made. I may have had to buy it with my own money, but it has been worth every cent. Lots of ideas are presented in this book and it gives really good ways to integrate the demonstrations to teach particular concepts. I plan to buy the other three books by this author.

THE most complete psychopharmacology clinical text. You will find rare side effects and drug-drug interactions that would be omitted in any other clinical text and that you would only discover by doing a literature search. Many tables make comparison between drugs of the same class easy. Also has a section on herbal products and pages of patient information sheets that can be photocopied and given to patients. This is a gem.

This is a tremendous book that will help me put my kids through college. I joined the services that Mr. Howe provides in his company College Funding Solutions. I do not have the time to do all of the things suggested in the book. It would take too much time to do with all of the information that he provides. It's a great read, well worth the time.

The Soul remembers what the mind has forgotten. This is one of the best texts I've read dealing with the balancing of mind/ego and whispers of the soul. Common Sense offers wisdom that most of us forget as we traverse our daily lives. Everyone can use a reminder of how things should be, not how things necessarily are, allowing us to make more favorable choices on our journey.
Life need not be so difficult, we tend to make it so. This book can help us help ourselves.

Review Date: 2005-09-10
Mike Williamson and I disagree about this book. I think it is the best of his Targets series so far, and he thinks it is the weakest. Where is it written that authors can analyze their own books correctly?

In this book, Williamson adds complexity to the already complex plots and characterizations of Kyle Monroe and Wade Curtis, his lone wolf Paladins from Targets of Opportunity and The Scope of Justice. Not only is their mission much less defined, they are also burdened by a desk warrior who seizes on the opportunity to make his bones in a "special ops" role.

Do they get their mission done? Do they carry their commanding burden (oops, I meant commanding officer) or do they frag him? Do the terrorists win one, or can Monroe and Curtis pull another one out of the bag?

And what will this mean to the introspective Monroe? How long can he go on doing this without going over the edge?

Well, I'm not going to tell you the answers. To find out, it will cost you. You will have to send Mad Mike Williamson money. And as he says, "Thank you. Never can get enough."

That's true of Williamson's writing too.

If you've read this far down the page on the book, you already know this is the third book dealing with the life and death missions of Wade Curtis and Kyle Monroe, and it is, by far, the trickiest.

Mars may be the God of War, but Murphy is the God of Armies, and, as usual, Murphy has a field day with a Curtis-Monroe mission. On top of the usual perils of dangerous territory, uncertain allies, finding the target, and enemies who would delight in their deaths, they start out saddled with a half-trained and fully-clueless superior officer with a horrible talent for screwing up.

"Mad Mike" has a talent for dropping the reader into not just the action, but the *feel* of the action, and everywhere in the story, just as in the previous books, we get carried along into the minds of the characters and how their work impacts them, even as we get to read a very well-told suspense thriller. Always, right up to the end, we are forced to keep asking ourselves "Will they succeed?" and "How in the hell can they pull this one out of the firefight?" and ask those questions right along with Wade and Kyle.

This book is well worth reading just for the Army-tours-Hell story. Be aware, though, that Williamson bestows a great gift on anyone who reads through it. For he uses his talent to place the reader into the minds of his characters and shows you something that, when it occurs, is a glorious thing in a life. There is the moment when a boy CHOOSES to become a man, with all the responsibility being the latter entails, and you get to see it through HIS eyes. That passage alone is worth the trip.

Thank you, Michael.

This is the third story about Army Ranger snipers Kyle Monroe
and Wade Curtis. They had previously been the heroes of "Scope

intelligence services pick up on a plot in the jungles of Indonesia.Monroe and Curtis are given the assigment of taking the killers out.A group of al Qaeda fanatics plan on blowing an oil rich province sky high.Hundreds of innocents will die.
General Robash,their commanding officer,suffers a heart attck.
He has to have heart surgery and is definitely out on sick
leave. He is replaced as commander of the mission by Colonel Weisinger.Weisinger is fat,out of shape and incompetant. He is
a disaster as a commanding officer and causes more problems than
he solves.Monroe and Curtis have numerous gun battles with the
Indonesian terror group. The Rangers finally have to lead a rescue effort to save an American hostage and her daughter. This
book is nonstop action. This is an excellent followup to the other two books.Buy this book and read it.You will enjoy it.

I expected this book to be fun, I did not expect it to be so poignant and yes, painful. It's a roller coaster ride of memories of where the Baby Boom came from, how it manifested, where it went, and how it dissipated - the most painful chapters of all. It is a well-written eye-opener for those who weren't there, and a nostalgic journey for those who were. It would be too easy to forget - things have changed so much, and not in the idealistic ways hoped for. It's easy to see why. All our major leaders/heroes were assassinated, all our best and brightest were distracted by sex, drugs, rock and roll and the master manipulation of TV. Still, we had vision and we had hope - and Annie Gottlieb captures the basics of what might have been. She even implies it may not be too late. If only that were true.

I read this fabulous book as we went to war with Iraq. The pages came to life and the tears flowed as I was in the midst of the Vietman peace movement, war, politics and social changes leaping off the pages in vibrant, uncensored candor as I sat in my living room listening to the news of yet another war-- the absurdity, the peace protests--greater than ever befor and WORLD WIDE-- the deception of politics and the reverberation of divine righteousness from the far right fundalmentalists. It seemed the force for change made in the 60-70's had been annulled and we fell into the old addage "History repeats itself."

As a late baby boomer riding on the tail of the comet of change,
I was delighted and remorse over reading this wonderfully crafted, personal history of the experience of "my" generation and the reflection of the outcome of all the craziness of those "first wavers" as they matured into the middle age stage of life. Now they are entering the golden age and there is an enormouse amount of work yet to be done, the purpose is still the same but the maturity of experience and reflection can help the Boomers negotiate the course with greater finess and certitude.

I am a gerontologist, received my degree in Gerontology from San Diego State University in 1996 at the age of 38. I now have a greater view on the emense power the Baby Boom Generation had in their youth and what I felt as they co-opted in the 1980 into the establishment of wealth and power. It has been my hope that this "sleeping Dragon" will wake up and arise to the task they were set out to accomplish -- preservation of the earth and humanity from the destructive forces of greed, power, religion and their ultimate "glory" in the destruction of life through war and oppression.

If you are a "Boomer" and want to get reconnected, READ THIS BOOK!! The choice still remains before us-- The Bomb or US.

The 60s in hindsight.

Ms Gottlieb has an objective but sympathetic view of Boomers and the period known as "the 60s". She presents Boomers warts and all, but still is able to make us feel good about ourselves and our youth.

Ms. Gottleib's retrospective of the Sixties is approached in a manner that makes the reader feel as though they are an intimate part of the research stage of the book. Interview after interview with household names of the time, as well as with those of lesser notoriety, provide honest insight into a time of turmoil on almost every level of existence in the US.

If you were there and don't remember, READ IT! If you weren't there and wish you had been, READ IT! If you're just looking for an intelligent, insightful, well-researched book, READ IT! I would LOVE to have lunch with the author. . .

I used to be a huge fan of dbz back when I was younger, but it is only now that i actually buy the manga. At first, I was unsure of buying any: most of the reviews are done by kids. So is this a kiddy manga? should I have bought this way back when I was 12 years old watching the edited tv show on cartoon network? Never fear. this volume (and all the other volumes) is well written, entertaining, and actually quite violent. I enjoy it whole heartedly.

The Genki Dama is unleashed, and it seems that Freeza has been defeated. Unfortunately, Freeza is still alive. As Freeza lifts Kurirn into the air, a power starts awakening in Goku. Kuririn is killed by Freeza. BRMMM. GRUMMMMMM. HAAAAAAA. BOOM. Goku has become a Super Saiyan. The one thing Freeza feared has just become reality. Will his tyranny come to an end? Goku hits Frieza with the Genki Dama, but he's still alive, and then he kills Kuririn. This causes Goku to lose it, transforming into a super saiyan! Frieza is dead meat now, even when he powers up he gets thrashed. It's pretty much SSJGoku beating up Frieza for most of the book, but it's still pretty cool. It ends in the next volume(which begins the Anroids/Cell saga, and introduces Trunks). It's an awesome finish to the Goku vs. Frieza fight.

The Dragon Ball Z manga is a piece of art and should be in every collector's hands. This DBZ #2 is actually Dragon Ball #18 of 42, but this part of the story is fine to begin with; backstory is not a problem if you have read DBZ Vol. 1, and since DBZ is a different stage of the lives of the characters. It is 190 pages of fun and wonder. Besides, for only (...) why would anyone pass up this opportunity? I guarantee this story will have you hooked. (...)

The manga magazine SHONEN JUMP brings a never-before-seen volume of Dragon Ball to America. This one begins in the midst of the 22nd "Tenkaichi Budokai" fighting tournament. At the start, cool bald-headed Kuririn is fighting the single-haired, doll-like Chaozu. Kuririn defeats him with an unusual method, but you'll have to read the book to find out what it is.
Later, the three-eyed Tenshinhan goes up against the impostor Jackie Chun (no relation to Jackie Chan). After Chun's stunning defeat, the half-monkey main character, Goku, must fight Tenshinhan.
The next fight is surprising. The "two best friends being forced to fight each other" theme is common in manga, but this time around, it's more interesting.
This book combines astounding battle action with a dollop of humor...Not only that, but this is probably the most clean book of the entire Dragon Ball series...DB Volume 11 is an excellent book for anyone who loves manga.

This book is a teacher's dream come true. I am a fairly new teacher and don't have a lot of time to research all of the behavior issues that have come up in my classroom. Dr. Shore's book was recommended to me by another teacher in my school and I purchased it the next day. I immediately found several good suggestions for dealing with some behaviors that had been troubling me since the start of the year. Dr. Shore's suggestions are straightforward, practical and take into account both the teacher's and child's points of view and needs. Sometimes the advice seems obvious--as in "Why didn't I think of that?--but Dr. Shore's clear explanations helped me to better understand not only what strategies are more effective, but why. Best of all, the book is filled with a wide range of valuable information that is extremely easy to find and use. Every time I have opened the book, I have been able to find what I need in a matter of minutes. That's great news for a new teacher like myself. Thank you Dr. Shore!

I heard the author on the radio and he made sense, so I bought the book. I am really impressed with it. It takes about 60 different problems that all teachers face and offers many different approaches to dealing with them. The variety of approaches is important because everyone has their own preferences and style, and there are many good solutions to try. The layout makes the book very easy to use (the discipline problems are listed in an A to Z format), issues are explained in clear English, and the suggestions seem quite practical. A very useful book for teachers and others dealing with children.

Guaranteed to help you in the classroom.

I own Dr. Shore's other book, Special Kids Problem Solver, and found that really useful working with kids with academic, behavioral or medical problems so when I learned that Dr. Shore had a new book out about discipline I was eager to get it. I was not disappointed. It tackles about 70 different problems that every teacher will eventually have to deal with and gives very practical, very helpful strategies. For each problem there are maybe 8 to 10 suggestions and you can almost always find some strategy that applies to your situation. I've been teaching for 14 years and have found many strategies that are new to me. Whether you're a new or veteran teacher, get a hold of this book. It will save you lots of frustration and help give you the time to do what you were trained to do --teach.

Highly recommend this book!

EVERY teacher should have this book. This is the first book that I have found that gives practical methods to work with each unique child. Dr. Kenneth Shore covers just about every concern a teacher will encounter in the school setting. This book does not simply cover "problem" students but also gives advice on how to help students with other concerns such as low self-esteem, lack of friends and disorganization. As a special education teacher I have had the opportunity to help students overcome academic difficulties and now with this book I hope I can help them with other difficulties.
