This is a book that started out as my son's series and I'm now enjoying the series. A great detective/mystery/spy style book series. I laughed, I learn code, I learned something new about San Francisco... I was happy at the end of this third book that we got some Proof Positive about Spy X, the missing mom of Andrew and Evie. A fun read. My son gets a kick out of me reading his books, hearing me laugh and wanting to know what part am I laughing at. It is great for bedtime conversation!

Peter Lerangis pullsit off again! This book is filled with brain busting codes, traps, secrets, deceptions, and really cool ending.
Andrew and Evie take on the next set of clues sent by their mother in this mysterious book. But all is not what it seems. Now the twins are in danger from the mysterious "Company" and have to avoid company agents. They must hurry to crack the codes to be reunited with Spy X ( Their mother. ). I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope to see many more in this series!

I loved this book!

Andrew & Evie have gotten so close to thier mom, they can practically smell it! But the Company is on to the twins, and they'll do anything to lure her out of hiding...including using Andrew and Evie as bait!!

This was a wonderful book. I loved it from beginning to end! I can't wait until the next Spy X book, "Tunnel Vision", comes out! I'm waiting....

Jens rollercoaster ride is no more than most of us would have done in the circumstances what sets this tome apart, is the total believability in the way it is written, great yarn ,great holiday book because millions of ladies go on holiday and want the Ahh and YES factor in the skin blistering time they spend reading books of this ilk,can be done in an afternoon and then off to the taverna or whatever for the pre dinner explosions of colour and alcohol,or a more leisurely bottle of Albarinho or what ever the trendiest new grape variety is,and just relax, this book is great companion for those moments.Good Book i'll read the next one when it's written and i can get it off my wife.

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to read Rachael's book while it was still in draft form - I must say I could see her book on the screen immediately. The way Rachael can become so intimate with her characters and make the reader feel as if they are intimate friends...that is a true talent.

I must say I still have visions of the bus scene as I write this review. And of course the piercing scene, but Let's not give it all away. The first person writing style will have you in the front seat of this hilarious journey.

Rachael is a breakout storyteller, weaving a master read in Running Out Of time. You will laugh and then need to wipe your tears. I look forward to the sequel. You must read it for yourself.

A brilliant book, laughing and crying all the way, especially laughing on the bus trip!!!!! It leaves you thinking 'just get out there and do the things you've always said you'd do'. I feel I would like to see this acted out, perhaps as a new 'Bridget Jones' with Dawn French as Jen, it would be hysterical. If you're reading this Rachael Conisbee I can't wait for the sequel. Whoever represents this woman is going to make a fortune - I wish I was a literary agent now!!!!

The Pillow Talk of a Great Mind

Review Date: 2008-05-14
In my own opinion, Elizabeth Barrett Browning at her best and most seductive; lie there reading them in bed and let them ravish you! To read them, so intimately sweet as they seem, is almost to feel EBB herself there, her small form snuggling happily in your arms. Of course nobody would have known better than EBB herself what dulcet love songs these sonnets were, since she had never intended them for publication. They were secret, often quite confessional, love poems she wrote about her Robert while he was courting her, all unawares, and then for awhile after their marriage, in which they continued carrying on as two of recorded history's most passionate lovebirds.

It was only after Robert Browning somehow discovered and read them that he managed to convince EBB that they were really too good not to be published. He was right, of course. Even so, Elizabeth was sensitive enough about the matter to want to screen the work off under a somewhat misdirecting title. SONNETS FROM THE PORTUGESE might hope to create a casual impression that they were foreign translations of some mysterious sort ... which, of course, obviously they aren't, but who's philologically analysing; read and enjoy!

In fact, the name settled on was a mere lover's in-joke. Because of her somewhat exotic looks and olive-colored skin, Browning's pet name for EBB, other than the baby-talk "Ba," was "my Portugese;" hence the title. The collection was tremendously successful and deservedly so, and this edition of it, gorgeously illustrated, is very nice indeed.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote these sonnets for her husband and fellow poet Robert Browning. She is capable to move and haunt without saccharine kitsch & schmalz. Her sincerity and intensity are an example to everyone who wants to write poetry or song lyrics. Two thumbs up!

My ex girlfriend, Ashleigh, gave this to me years ago, before she was forced by her family to marry this guy. Long story but she sent this book to me and signed the inside.
Next to Shakespeare, this is the most bittersweet and poetic

It was said that a husband and wife team wrote these so one can only imagine how passionate their marriage was, huh?

Once in a while you will be pleasantly surprised by a series which comes up with a volume definitely better than its forerunners and good enough to stand out a a book of its own. Wraith Squadron is such a rare surprise. It ist fast, funny and taking you to all the interesting people and places. It reminds me very much of all the qualities of the original movies and stories. This is a must-read for all star wars fans and will be still very entertainig for "normal" science fiction readers.

Though Stackpole's Rogue Squadron books were very entertaining,I found this even more so.In it Wedge creates a new squadron. Though the back of the book makes the Wraiths seem like a bunch of raw recruits, they're really just fantastic, smart pilots that haven't been given a chance because of matters beyond there control. Most of the book is told from the point of veiw of Kell, a human male from Sluis Van who has had prior expierience with an elite Republic commando unit. Wraith Squadron it self is basicly a unit of commandos that are also good pilots. It follows the tradition set by Stackpole with exciting deep space dogfighting and fantastic gun battles. On one occasion, Kell even outsmarts a Star Destroyer and saves a wing of New Republic starfighters. This book is a must for any Star Wars fanatic like myself!

It was a good book, it was well paced, the suspense kept me going. The only real thing I hate about the book was that it was one of those books that I read in one sitting (say 8 hours with interuptions). I hope Aaron Alliston's nex X-Wing book is about Wraith Squadron. Oh yeah in the Acknoweldgements Alliston thanked Michael Stackpole for hjis fiction which was in inspiration. Trust me it is true, in Mike Stackpole's Lethal Heritage, there was a couple who's names (Phelan Kell and Tyra Miraborg) are similar to the names of 2 Wraith Pilots

Wraith Squadron Rocks!

The characters are all extremely well developed. Stackpole hints at what may exist. Zsinj is quite a clever creation, as are Grinder, Face, Runt, and Kell.

This is so packed with details that I am always searching for. It's awesome, it's so cool. It has everything that you need to know about the X-files, I have nothing but praise for the author. I love the fact that it told so much about all of the characters and stuff, and it's just so great that I recommend if you're as obsessed as I am about the show, to go and buy it. Absolutely, positively, without a doubt the best and most complete reference book that has ever been published on THE X-FILES. This incredibly detailed and beautifully illustrated book covers everything you ever wanted to know about THE X-FILES but were afraid to ask! It is a massive undertaking that covers everything in easy to use A-Z alphabetical format. Every entry cites the episode it came from and every character has the actor's name. Say for example, in the letter (B): you will find lengthy entries for everything from Bear ("Ice") to Bay Area Carpeteers (the Chinese employer of Shuyang Hsin in "Hell Money") and Big Blue ("Quagmire"), from Babcock ("Gethsemane") to Bright White Place ("Nisei") and Biodiversity Project ("F. Emasculata") and tons of entries in between. It is also a very timely book as it covers all previous 4 seasons. I also love the classy look of the book, the good-grade paper and the typeset inside and, especially the price. Oh, how could I forget the illustrations! No more reused stock photos (that we've all seen in every magazine), but the coolest artwork enhances the book. Wait until you check out Flukeman, Mama Peacock and Dr. Zama! THE X-CYCLOPEDIA is a BIG book (with thousands of entries) and for only $15 it's a better deal than the 2 or 3 X-Files magazines I buy each month that total more than $15. If you call yourself an X-Phile, then you don't want to be without this DEFENITIVE reference book to the series! This is THE book of the X-FILES, and I highly recommend it.

This is the COMPLETE reference guide to my favorite TV show. Idon'tthink the authors missed a thing in this book...it is absolutely mind-boggling to see so many entries. From A to Z, The X-Files has never before been put under such focused, affectionate, and meticulous scrutiny. The X-CYCLOPEDIA is the ULTIMATE reference book on the series and if I only had $15 in my pocket and could only buy one book about THE X-FILES, then it would be this one. Hands down, this is THE best reference book on THE X-FILES ever written. I give it two thumbs up, four stars, or whatever critics use as a measuring stick. No X-Phile should be without it! The truth is no longer OUT there...it is IN the X-CYCLOPEDIA!

If you think you know EVERYTHING about the best show on television, you're wrong. These guys pull up obscure info and quiz you on it, drawing not only from the episodes but from interviews, books, and magazines. This is a great book and a must for an X-Phile's library! My only complaint: after reading Phil Farrand's lighthearted Nitpicker's Guide, the authors of this book seem really critical. I mean, what's up with their review of "War of the Coprophages"? Lighten up! Other than that, of course, diehard fans will cherish this book.

I've always considered myself an X-pert. None of my online friends (or real life for that matter) has ever been able to stump me on X-Files trivia. I'm completely addicted to the show and have 15 books.

This one is definately one of the best, pointing out many of the nitpicks and netpicks we've philes have already discovered in addition to new ones that sent me back to look for them. The trivia is extremely difficult and interesting.

I recommend this book to all philes who think they know it all. Take a few months to memorize this book and then you will know it all.

If you want to do something in UNIX this book has the command. It won't hold your hand and teach you unix step by step, but it is an excellent reference. The book lists zillions of commands - from common to obscure - and clearly explains what they do (in different flavors even). Anyone working with UNIX should have a copy.

This is my most valuable UNIX book. The real-life examples, both stand-alone commands and piped-together commands always come though when I don't remember exactly how to do something. The keyword index is grouped by functional categories, so, if you know that you want to do "job control" and not a "printing" command, then you are 80% of the way to finding the command that you want in the index. The authors did the work, so I don't have to. What a great, great book for anyone dealing with UNIX.

This book is great when working with various platforms like I do in Customer Support. The only problem is they have to update it from 1994 to include more and/or less terms and their definitions. Otherwise most of the terminology is good, accurate and concise when one is trying to work with scripting or just using the commands in the book. Otherwise, an excellent book. I hope they come up eventually with an update on it.

If someone had given me a copy of Mary Beth's book, I believe it would have helped me to return a lot sooner, and I might not have left in the first place. She explains what's really important and valuable about our faith, in a relevant, simple way.

I bought this book for my teenagers but I couldn't read it fast enough myself. We all loved it! Bonacci writes clearly and her examples are relevant and interesting. She explains church teaching with authority but without being offensive to youth who are questioning. I have used this book to teach religious education in my parish for seventh graders. It does a great job of expanding topics in our text and for providing a tool for students to discuss important and sensitive issues with their parents. I have heard only positive comments about the book from the families I work with.

Individual chapters address the crisis of faith in "dry times". Even covers the expected phases of boredom (I don'tget anything out of church) delusionment(just a bunch of hypocrites) and rejection of the faith (where is this God that doesn't know I exist that allows so much suffering into the world) that so many young of all ages feel when a maturing soul is ready to take the next step in the growth of faith. The love and life of Christ and those in his church shine in all this process as the way to perfection and abstinance is formed. This pope is a pope of love that encourages all souls to find that highly sacramental love that is so easily lost when it becomes a means to subjugate our spouses instead of unifying them with us and God. This book should be on every jr.high and high schooler's reading list. It should be read twice by anyone who is about to enter into any serious dating relationship. Follow the rules in this arena, and the prize of a deep, loving, and, yes, sexually satisfying realtionship that fills this life and brings you into the perfection that is the next can and will be yours.

I suppose the easiest way to get kids to read this book would be to forbid them to, then they would steal it if they had to. All joking aside, Mary Beth's style is fresh and easy to understand. She never talks down to her intended audience. She almost seems like a cool aunt that you could talk to about anything. I myself am a 30 yrold woman who converted to the Catholic faith last year. I'm often asked about my conversion and I will tell you this: The Catholic Church was about the only Church willing to stand by the moral teachings of our Lord and not back down despite a ton of pressure from society. That impressed me and I knew I had to learn more. Even though I'm a little older than her usual audience, I read both of her books and plan to by more copies to give to teens in my area. I think that it's about time that we take back our schools and children and teach them what they need to know about what God really wants for their lives. Who knows? With a lot of prayer and a lot of action perhaps we could overturn Roe vs Wade AND bring prayer back to public school.

This book is soooo great! I would read it again and again!

I've never read any Alpha Flight comics before, so I figured this was a good place to start. The way John Byrne writes and draws the series makes me wanna go to Canada. I think my favorite stories were the ones with Northstar and Aurora.

It seems like Marvel's Classic series is like the Essentials but in color and on a smaller scale. I'm looking forward to the second volume that comes out in a few months and will get it not long after. My guess is it'll include #9-15 and their first annual.

During Chris Claremont and John Byrne's revolutionary run on Uncanny X-Men, the duo introduced Alpha Flight: Canada's premiere superhero team that has a connection to Wolverine. Byrne would write and draw Alpha Flight during it's original run, and thankfully, the same success he brought to X-Men and Fantastic Four translated here. Byrne's talent for team dynamics and dynamic action really helped Alpha Flight shine, as he gives heart and soul to characters like Vindicator, Sasquatch, Northstar, and Puck. Byrne's artwork is wonderful as always, but it's treatment of the characters as a whole that sets Alpha Flight apart from many of Marvel's typical secod-rate hero teams, and nearly propels them to the top. This, along with many appearances from familiar faces in the Marvel universe, make this first volume of Byrne's run on Alpha Flight worth picking up for new fans and old readers alike.

Alpha Flight has been through many iterations since it premiered years ago, but the orginal series (at least Byrne's run) is still the best. This volume collects the 1st 8 issues of the series, and what's good about it is that it isn't like many other comics that you'll read that bring together groups of superheroes. Basically, everyone on the team has some sort of issue, and Byrne crafts great back stories for each character.

The artwork is dead on, and it's a great read.

Nothing better.....

John Byrne has gone on record saying that his heart was never really into "Alpha Flight", that they were basically created as a team that could successfully battle the X-Men. Despite all this, Byrne's run on AF (he did 28 issues total) are an example of his mastery of the form and yet another look at how much the comics medium has fallen since the 80s. There's never been another book like "Alpha Flight." The team had been created four years before the book came out, but Byrne was faced with the task of instilling each character with a personality and origin, which he painstakingly did, bit by bit.

Included here are the first 8 issues of the book presented in a nice new format. Some people have said the new format is a little too bright, but I think it works well and doesn't take away from the stories at all. We get the classic battle with Tundra, Snowbird's battle in a blizzard which has to be "seen" to get the full effect, the troubled twins - split-personality Aurora and gay Northstar - as well as the development of James Hudson's cyber helmet that started the whole mess. My only complaint is that there should have been more issues included because it will take us that much longer to get to my favorite part of Byrne's run: issues 18-28.

It's so much fun to revisit these characters and adventures again but those discovering them for the first time will have just as much fun. Thanks to all who finally put this book together.

If you've ever fantasized about murdering one (or all) of your ex-girlfriends or boyfriends, you'll enjoy this book. Reminded me of Ellis's "American Psycho" - sick, morbid, funny, an easy read. Like Grenert's previous book, Existential Exodus, I think this would make a great movie (definitely an "indie"!!) Recommended for the NON faint of heart.

ASHES OF X-GIRLFRIENDS AND OTHER STORIES is a black comedy about an unusual love affair. Despite some shocking scenes of violence, I really came to care about the two protagonists. The other short stories in this book are "spot-on" depictions of the gritty side of city life. And the author has a unique style which made me laugh, cry and shudder all at the same time.

What to watch out for...

ASHES OF X-GIRLFRIENDS AND OTHER STORIES is a modern revenge story and a black comedy. A young newlywed couple erases their past to start a new life with a clean slate. On their wedding night, the bride imposes one condition on the groom before she will consummate the marriage. Out of total devotion to his wife, he agrees.

Other stories depict slices of New York City life in all its complexity and grittiness. They expose the paranoia and underlying malaise of city life often in a humorous light. Some are twists on urban legends which will have you smacking your forehead at the surprise endings. You'll find it difficult to stop turning the pages...

I've never read anything like it. "Ashes" is viscerally raw, course and shocking, yet funny. The other stories in the volume create a mosaic of New York that I haven't always been tuned in to, but I certainly am now.

A great, dark and witty read about love, murder and all that in between.

Ashes of X-Girlfriends begins innocently enough: a young couple in love planning a future. But what follows this brief introduction pulls the reader into a vortex of surprising, unsettling and often disturbingly funny scenarios. Have you ever thought about how far you'd go for a spouse? Not far enough according to Grenert's characters. Set amidst gritty Lower East Side sidewalks, scorching sun over the Central Park and other familiar American landscape, Grenert lets us peek into a relationship of two lovers who would sacrifice anything (or anyone) for each other. A fantastic read that will surely make you blush.
