A unique introduction to data fusion technology

This book is the first (and so far only book) devoted to the concept of data fusion applied to the field of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). I found it relatively complete with chapters providing clear and concise information on the topic. It starts by addressing the concept of data fusion, then presents most NDT techniques that one may expect to encounter before discussing and clearly presenting case studies. Engineers involved either in data fusion, NDT (NDE, NDI), or simply wishing to apply data fusion procedures to their discipline should definitively read this book to gain insight into the subject and acquire the basis necessary to carry out further data fusion work. I would not hesitate to recommend it to engineers, scientists and students.

The Worst Spy Ever (Neither a Candle nor a Pitchfork)

Just as Inspector Dover is literatures worst detective, Joyce Porter's Eddie Brown is its worst spy. Ms. Porter delights in displaying the many character flaws of Eddie Brown, industrial spy. This is the 3rd book in this series, and they are all excellent. Sir Maurice, his boss, tells Eddie that his next mission is in America, which is a big fat lie. This information abates slightly Eddie's whining about his health, etc. He however is unceremoniously and literally dumped into a horse breeding (stud) collective in 1969 Russia. They have a dangerous secret, and Eddie's mission will be to protect their secret, or end up as a permanent resident of their largish graveyard. Don't worry Eddie will survive despite a 'smashing bit of crackling with ruby lips' .

I loved this book! Virginia Morris Briggs weaves a wonderful story filled with all the insight and wisdom of The Prophet. I flew alongside Robin Ray in her search, and I felt a calm peacefulness when the answers to her questions were realized. This is a book I will enjoy reading again and again. It will be on my list of gifts. I'd like to share it with everyone I know and love.

The prioritized approach is fantastic. While I am on service, I keep this book and Blumenfelds' "Neuroanatomy through clinical cases", and Localization in Neurology (Brazis, Biller) in the conference room for us to reference before rounds. It's a great book. One way to improve the book would be to include percentage-likelihood numbers from large case series to include in the prioritized approach.

Advance Praise for A New Engagement?

"Packed with evidence and insights, A New Engagement? captures the changing nature of citizen participation in America. Generational differences underlie that change, which is remaking our civic and political life. This breakthrough study should be read by all--scholars, pundits, politicos, activists, and citizens--who seek a better understanding of tomorrow's America." -- Thomas E. Patterson, Harvard University
"Based on an impressive array of evidence, this is the fullest and most important work to date on the social and political engagement of all sorts--or the lack of it--of different age cohorts in contemporary America. It persuasively shows how history, perceptions of government performance, and social, cultural, and economic experiences have shaped and distinguished the social and political outlooks and behavior of different generations of adults in the United States." -- Robert Y. Shapiro, Columbia University
"This book is an outstanding study of shifting patterns of civic engagement among successive generations of American citizens. A key finding: generational differences matter, and we should pay more attention to indications of declining political involvement among young adults." -- William A. Galston, Saul Stern Professor, School of Public Policy, University of Maryland
"Understanding the future of democracy in America requires us to understand how young people are being mobilized into public life. The impressive range of data collected for and presented in this book are unparalleled in scope or quality for their insights into the public involvement of young Americans. This highly original study is indispensable for understanding how Americans under 30 are orienting themselves to civic life." -- Scott L. Althaus, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Dr. Zustiak does an excellent job in examining the sociological traits of the Gen X crowd. The book is written from the perspective of reaching the needs of Gen X with the Christian message and world view. However, one need not be a Christian to appreciate the information shared on the social and personal needs of Gen X. A fine study.

The Good, the Bad, and the Mundane

I can't believe I'm the first person to write about this book. I feel like such a numbnut, compared to the grace I found within the pages of Night of a Thousand Blossoms. I honestly don't read a whole lot of poetry. And now my words will most likely be the first to defile it's intent. I did go on a Rumi binge recently and found that worthwile, as I did this. Somehow LA suburbia becomes the Garden of Gethsemane. I don't know. The mundane just creeps alive, thankfully without any grandiosity. I found myself wanting to share every other poem with my girlfriend. The ugly becomes serene and the beautiful damned. Read it. The words choked me. I loved it.

WONDERFUL STORY OF A STREET CAT

Review Date: 2006-09-30
This is not the sticky sweet story of lost kitty finds a home, it is the story of a street can, his trials and adventures. The text is quite well done, realistic and the art work is great. This book will appeal to animal lover in all kids and give them some understanding just what a street animal has to go through in a day. While the book is not overly harsh, it does give a good portrayal and is quite realistic. Recommend you add this one to your library if you can find a copy.

I suppose that some of the work in this book, one of a 13 volume set written between 1916 and 1932 (reprinted in the 1960s, has been changed by more recent scholarship, but there is still nothing to equal this fantastic achievement. The set includes not only the more familiar myths such as Greek and Roman, but pretty well succeeds in its goal to include all of humanity. The text is extremely detailed but very readable; none of the turgid prose so often associated with academia. The volumes contain numerous illustrations, both in the text and as plates (mostly black & white.)
One of the most useful parts of the set is the final volume, an extremely detailed index, which allows the reader to pursue a theme, or even a topic as specific as the significance of belts, across all the volumes. The individual volumes do not have their own indices, but the tables of contents are fairly detailed. The books appear to have been issued without dust jackets.
