The only good book about all the X-planes

If you want to find detailed information about the X-planes, this is the book you want! Too bad it is out of print, but it is really worth searching for. For most of the X-planes, it is very detailed, with lots of pictures and a description of its purpose and the results it provided. For the more interesting early planes (X-1, X-2, X-15, etc.), it has lists of the flights and the pilots, and some detailed info about each flight. Even though I thought I had good knowledge of the X-planes, this book provided me with lots of additional information. I mean, how much do you know about the unmanned X-10 or the X-12?

Also check out Miller's Aerofax Minigraphs (mostly also out of print) about the X-15, the X-1, etc. They contain more specific information about each plane. For instance, the X-15 Minigraph contains information about *every* flight the X-15 ever did, captive and launched flights.

the very best source book on x-planes

this is the very best reference book on x-planes, written by Jay Miller who is unquestionably a top aerospace writer. Technical content makes this book a "must" for all aerospace students and engineers. Should be available in all aerospace design office bookshelves. Really, a desert island book !!!

The X-Rated Videotape Guide V: Over 1,000 Reviews of 1993-1994 Adult Movies

Riley's and Rimmer's guide is a must-have for serious comsumers of pornography, covering, as it does, the years when (arguably) porn first skirted the crusted fringe of mainstream pop-culture. True, pornography perhaps first demanded critical scrunity when VHS brought it out of the ... booth in the 80s; but such a demand was, at best, muted. But when "Ass Rage 3" and "Natural Bone Drillers" (both given 5 stars in this guide) hit the shelves we witnessed an artistic reclamation which enabled the soi-disant culturally savvy elite to buff the chubster and bandy about terms like "Gen-X kitsch" and "post-PC irony." This tremendous guide is alive to that seminal shift, and indeed provides video-still evidence of several graphic examples of it. Hats off to the authors for such a perceptive treatment.

it was very interresting and very straight to the point .

You take a look at this Videotape and it gives you a great history of the Adult Industry and even if you don't follow the history you are missing a great deal of thought provoking issues that you didn't even consider, because it was taboo to some people. What Patrick Riley did in my opinion was awesome and he opened my eyes. Thank You

Excellent single volume reference for Xt / Motif developers.

This volume is meaty, thorough and useful. The overview material on the X Window System architecture is revealing in ways that the X documentation never was.

The chapters on debugging and error handling alone were worth ten times the price of this book, and have significantly added to the robustness of our applications. We used this book in 1995 to support a Linux hosted Motif implementation - our first under X - and found this by far the most useful volume.

The detailed descriptions of the Motif widgets take a little navigating to start with, but are compact and useful descriptions of complex objects.

This book does not cover the new features of X11R6.3 (printing and other extensions) which were released after the book was published, but I look forward to a new edition that includes them.

While Kimball's book is not always an easy read, this is dictated by the complex subject matter, which he tackles with competence and completeness. Highly recommended.

This is a wonderful book. I get this now; this is something I never thought I'd be able to say. It's clearly written (except for a couple thousand typos, but you can get past them pretty easily), nicely organized, and really an easy read. Read this in front of a computer screen, try some of the examples, and you can't miss.

X/1999, Vol. 7: Rhapsody

My personal opinion is that this is CLAMPS's finest effort yet- and that's saying something, considering how many CLAMP works I actually read.

The drawings are enough to make me weep at their sheer beauty. When I bought this, I opened it up while walking along the street in the city, and actually stopped to stare at the first page for ages, trying to drink the entire (gory) image in. If you are into manga solely for the art, then X/1999 is for you.

The plot is really starting to pick up at this point. Slight warning- most of what I say from now on will contain spoilers.

This manga begins with the intensly gory image of Kamui's aunt 'giving birth' to one of the sacred swords. This image has a severe psychological affect on the character Kotori, and a lot of this volume is devoted to her memories of her mother. I don't even like Kotori that much, and I found myself fascinated by her dreamscapes. By watching these, you will see how truly inventive the writers are.

There's also some lovely foreshadowing for Fuma. I really do feel for his character, thanks mostly to the astounding drawings. We also get to see more of the sinister BEAST, which provides the cliff-hanger conclusion to this volume.

I've been a fan of the X/1999 series since I saw a handful of episodes at an anime screening, and the manga just really takes the cake- and if manga had mouths, well it would eat the cake as well. The only problem- I've been unable to find Volume Eight anywhere! If you're going to start buying this series, then I suggest that you prepare to give up quite a bit of money- once you start, you won't be able to stop.

Another Great Book!

In this, as in the other books of the X/1999 series, CLAMP continues to amaze American readers with beautiful imagery and enthralling story. I would definetly reccomed it for anyone who has read the previous books. If you haven't, I implore you to start with the first book or face the neverending confusion of starting in the middle of a Manga series.

An X-MEN fans answer to How it all began?

This was truly a well written book. It gave the readers a chance to look at an adventure through the eyes of the greatest superhero team of all time, the X-MEN. Each X-Man had their on personality and for me this made the story more believable. Different X-MEN adventures in one book, a must have for X-MEN fans.

As a huge fan of the X-Men, I have read many novelizations and many comics. But the X-Men themselves remain mostly a mystery. Where do they come from? Why did Xavier choose them? What did they do in their pasts that made them such prime candidates for a team in which trust is everything? All the questions are answered here.

It gives you a real insider's view of the X-Men. You journy to the heart of Cerebro, the X-Men's super advanced computer used mainly for the detection of powerful mutants, and see for yourself how it used to be. Each X-Man entered a tale of thier past, something really big that changed their lives. For Jubilee, it was the death of her parents, and then her foster parents, within a year. For Rogue, it was discovering that she wasn't as invincible as she thought. For Xavier himself, (the X-Men's mentor, teacher, and all around best friend) it was his step-brother, Cain Marko, aka the Unstoppable Juggernaut. This is a must-have for any X-Men fan. Francis Maguire's book is the best I've read on taking care of your employees. It makes all the sense in the world to treat employees like they're the greatest. And Maguire artfully and eloquently does this through examples and applications. He shows how validating employees is how wise managers conduct their daily routine.
I have learned much. Thank you Frank!
I heartily recommend this book!

Can This Man Be Believed!

Review Date: 2001-07-21
Wow! How refreshing to meet someone who actually promotes the philosophy that more can be gained by a kind word than with a stern look. In this "Get Over It!" society it is nice to know that someone realizes the benefits of validation and even documents how it can produce profit. Told in a sort of biography of the life of Francis X. Maguire we follow him from his positions at major television networks, top U.S. corporations, and even the White House. With each step he has left his indelible mark on all those around him. He is responsible for guiding the careers of Ted Koppel and Charles Osgood as well as helping major companies such as FedEx and Kentucky Fried Chicken build their company policies towards employees. How wonderful if every company had a man like this encouraging employee performance with validation and a kind word. He is too good to believe!

Had Officer X written "10-8" later than 1994, it probably would have been a blog. As it is, this little volume includes ruminations, stories, experiences, advice from about a decade on patrol transferred to paper. None is longer than a page, and there is nothing deeply intimate about Officer X. It is not like a profound diary.

But almost every page has something interesting, either a tidbit about how cops react to different situations or thoughts about rehabilitation, retirement, raising children. Most anything is grist to a cop's mill, because, as X says, it's about dealing with people.

In theory, we are not supposed to know where Officer X works, but it is not hard to figure out from clues in the book that he is, or was, on the force of Glencoe, Ill., a small, almost lily-white and rich village of fewer than 10,000 people among the northern suburbs of Chicago.

Now, I'm not a cop, but I have worked around them for a long time as a newspaper reporter, and what Officer X has to say has the ring of real cops. He says some of what he writes may offend some people, and that's for sure.

To take an example, Officer X's particular passion is getting drunk drivers off the road, and he notes that Hispanics are way overrepresented in DUIs in his town. He explicitly denies having or offering any reason that should be so. Well, we track DUIs in my county, too, and Hispanics are way overrepresented here, too.

Everybody knows it, but nobody is supposed to notice it,

X is also frank about what cops I used to be around called `failing the attitude test.' In other words, beating up arrestees.

Of modern law enforcement, Officer X says, "the fear of video cameras these days keeps a lot of scumbags from getting tune-ups they richly deserve." That's frank.

There's plenty here to start a conversation with, presented in a graceful style that is definitely not usual for cops.

One thought deserves special mention: "Watch out for terrorism. Being geographically isolated has helped us to a point. But a continuing high profile has brought us all kinds of attention we don`t need. Americans have simply been too lucky for too long. Perhaps some of that evaporating defense money should be earmarked for anti-terrorism. The local cops aren't equipped to handle or prevent that stuff."

That was written in 1994. Officer X was a smart guy.
