I Love this series and the two main characters.

In Awakenings, the first novel of the the I Found My Heart in San Francisco series, we met Ryan O'Flaherty and Jamie Evans, juniors at the University of California at Berkeley.

I was completely delighted to see this novel in print. Excellent writing, perfectly paced plot, lovable characters, as well as characters you can come to loathe. I was riveted to every page and didn't want to put the book down. I always hold off opening this author's novels until first thing Saturday morning so I can read as much as possible in the next 48 hours.

The two main characters, Jamie and Ryan, are as endearing as ever (I just can't get enough of them) - as well as passionate and very sexy. In addition, their extended family and group of friends are endlessly interesting. The author explores them thoroughly so that the reader gets to know them as well as we do Jamie and Ryan.

In addition to a great plot the humor is laugh out loud funny. The author, who I thought was perfection in her other novels, All That Matters, Cherry Grove and Arbor Vitea just keeps surprising me with one hit novel after another.

I couldn't want more (already looking forward to re-reading it) and yet I am clamoring for the next novel in this series.

This is a Keeper!

Don't miss the other novels in this great series:

Another excellent work from this author.
Entwined is the fifth book in the I Found My Heart in San Francisco series.

From expensive haircuts to expensive cars, Jamie's money--and what it can buy--continues to be a problem that she and Ryan struggle with.

But, when Jim Evans, already in denial over his daughter's declared preference of a mate, receives a report from the bank that Jamie has given Ryan access to her checking account, he becomes more convinced than ever that the money is the only reason that Ryan has latched onto Jamie

best standard book for target tracking system
Helpful Votes: 15 out of 15 total.
Review Date: 2001-05-08
I think any person who major in target tracking system related to the Kalman filter must see this book. This book present the fundamentals of state estimation theory and the tools for the design of state-of-the-art algorithms for target tracking.

The book covers the basic concepts and estimation techniques for static and dynamic systems, linear and nonlinear, as well as adaptive estiomation. This constitutes a one semester graduate course in estimation theory in an electrical/systems engineering program.

The discussion deals mainly with discrete time estimation algorithms, which are natural for digital computer implementation. The basic state estimation algorithm-the Kalman filter-is presented in discrete as well as in continuous time. The use of the estimation algorithms is illustrated on kinematic motion models because they reveal all the major issues and in particular the subtleties encountered in estimation, and this serves as an introdution to tracking.

Guidelines for tracking filter design-selection of the filter design parameters-are given and illustrated in several examples.

At the end of each chapter, a number of problems that enhance the understanding of the theory and the connection of the theoretical material to the real world are given.

And I have this book as text for my paper.

I don't usually write online reviews but this book is so clear and useful that I really want to recommend it to others. It is well written with a good outline and summary for every chapter. It also has a pretty diverse range of topics on estimation, including an introductory chapter on basic estimation approaches (e.g., ML, MAP, least squares), and very practical extensions (e.g., state augmentation, square-root filters). Even though I am not in EE and some of the examples are thus not particularly helpful to me, I still find this book one of the best of all the estimation/Kalman filter books out there.

Ways that Feeling Good Helps the Immune System
Helpful Votes: 12 out of 14 total.
Review Date: 2001-09-04
Those who enjoyed and learned from Dr. Dean Ornish's fine book, Love and Survival, will be glad they read Feeling Good Is Good for You. Drs. Charnetski and Brennan report on fascinating scientific research in human studies concerning the positive influence that various pleasurable experiences and influences can have on the body's immune system. "The human drive for pleasure, if satisfied in moderation, can assist us on the pathway to good health." The authors make it clear that pleasurable experiences and environments are not the only ways that the immune system can be supported.

The book provides a basic overview of how your immune system operates, and how various diseases are encouraged or repelled by strengthening or weakening immune responses.

The starting point for all kinds of mind-body research (psychoneuroimmunology or PNI, in this case) is the well-known placebo effect. Many people get better if they think they are receiving medications, even when they are not. The placebo effect works best when the evidence of receiving medication is strongest (such as through an IV in a hospital). This effect is a real one because the brain can calm stress-based hormonal and chemical turbulence, trigger feel-good chemicals, and cause chemicals to be released that stimulate the effectiveness of the immune system.

The book goes on to take a detailed look at how optimism versus pessimism, hostility, stress, music, friends, love, touching, pets, laughing, light, visualization, religious practices, eating and drinking habits, and the degrees of these factors influence specific parts of the immune system. At the end of each subject, you are given suggestions for ways to apply the lessons to your own life. In several sections (such as the one about stress on pages 76 and 77) you will find tests you can take to measure how this factor affects your life now.

The key lessons of these practices are summarized on page 181 as a 13 point pleasure formula.

One impressive part of the book was that the authors look at the implications of following these practices if these scientific studies are later overturned by newer research. Their argument that following this advice will do no harm seems persuasive.

Although I was aware of much of this kind of research from reading other books, I found many studies here that I had not read about before. Of particularly interest was the new research that the immune system can be conditioned to become stronger.

The big surprise for me was to see that one quiz showed my stress level to be apparently much greater than I would have subjectively described it as being. I wonder if you can build up an immunity to feeling stressed, even as potentially stress-inducing situations occur. Also, I wonder if different factors affect individuals differently. I find considerable pleasure in some of the "stressful" events on the list.

After you finish enjoying applying this book's "pleasure in moderation" lessons for a few days, I suggest that you think back to other things you have done in the past that have brought you stress reduction, contentment, moderate pleasure, or peace. How can you also incorporate those activities and elements into your life now?

Give a boost to the moderate enjoyment instincts of those you meet!

A POSITIVE ATTITUDE CAN ACTUALLY MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER!

Review Date: 2001-11-05
Most of us are quite aware that a positive attitude helps us feel better but fewer people are aware of why. A positive attitude stimulates certain hormones and enzymes that strengthen our immune system and can give us an overall feeling of improved well being. In this book the reader will learn how stress, tension, anger, loneliness, depression and negative feelings in general can lead to a variety of physical ailments. It also shows how positive influences in our life can improve our health and contribute to a longer life. Music, biofeedback, prayer, meditation, happy fulfilling relationships, pets and basic responses, such as laughing or the feeling of a warm touch not only increase our emotional state of well being, but they can actually improve our physical state as well. Stress is a personal affair. Each one of us must discover what activities cause us stress and which ones help to relieve our stress and soothe away inner tensions.

As a counsellor, it has become apparent to me that many individuals often recognize when they are under stress, but most people are not able to determine for themselves the "degree" of stress that plaques them. A prime example of this is high blood pressure. One individual may have apparent symptoms while another may have no significant symptoms at all until a stroke or heart attack strikes. "Feeling Good Is Good For You" is an excellent book which helps the reader understand the connection between mind and body, and how, to a certain extent, we can control the state of our well being. There has obviously been an extensive amount of research undertaken in writing this book, and it is one well worth reading.

ANOTHER GREAT ONE!!!!!!

Review Date: 2007-08-10
The story of Jaimi and Ryan follows with this no stop great new novel.
Fidelity is the sixth installment in a twenty-six book series following the lives of Jamie Evans and Ryan O'Flaherty.

Jamie, Ryan, their friends, families and the times they live in are chronicled in the series, which was created for the reader who hates to have a book end just when it's getting good.

In Fidelity, the new lovers are forced to determine if absence really does make the heart grow fonder. Jamie's headed to Rhode Island to back-up her vow to spend more time with her mother, and Ryan's going to Santa Cruz to prepare for the upcoming volleyball season.

A week isn't a long time when it's measured against a lifetime commitment, but in the "can't breathe without you" stage of their nascent relationship they view their separation with a mixture of dread and resignation.

One person who's very happy to have the couple separated is Jamie's father. He takes the opportunity to make his objections to their bond more than clear--in his usual manipulative way.

This guide increases your pleasure and saves you money

This is the most intellectually compelling wine guide written in the modern era. I continually find myself turning to it and reading it again and again. There are few pallets that match the constellation of Stephen Tanzer, David Schildknecht, and Joshua Raynolds, and they are all available within these pages. An invaluable tool that will save you costly mistakes and pay for itself in the selection of a single mixed case.

Wine geeks frequently cite that this guide is for more easily obtainable bottles, implying a criticism of Robert Parker's phenomenal access to and reviews of obscure releases. In addition, the median price and price range of those wines considered here is less lofty than the Parker world. My own view is that there is a place for both, and that world wine offerings are so bountiful and complex that there is more than enough reason for the serious wine drinker, or the casual fan who wishes to maximize their budget, to read this guide and other leading critics' guides as well.

A particular strength is Schildknect's appreciation for German and Austrian wines, and particularly in the case of the latter, the last true wine bargains on the planet. The complexity, fineness, and excellence of both terroire and grape are unmatched in Austrian whites. Couple that with excellent winemakers, then add the coup de graces: fewer corked bottles than white burgundy, and you have no contest. This guide is essential.

This is a book that you wish wouldn't end because each chapter is flush with technical and artistic lessons of enormous practical value. Mr. Rockwell teaches you how to use paths and points in remarkably sophisticated ways to simulate reality. He covers the most complex FreeHand operations and manipulations in a style that is thoughtful, instructive, and easy to follow. How often does one encounter a skillful artist, adept technician, and superior communicator all in the same skin?

If you have a serious interest in refining your vector skills, and if you take pleasure in artistic discovery, then get hold of this book and don't let it go until you've read it all. But be forewarned: you may find yourself using FreeHand in ways you never thought imaginable. You may even find yourself preferring paths and points to pixels and paintbrushes!

Finally, a real illustrator who can write too!! This book is packed full of inspiring real world desgins. The author then proceeds to teach us how to produce these top class images using FreeHand.

Instead of teaching how to use FreeHand it is an INTERMEDIATE book which shows you how to do cut-out designs, theres a car, a bird, a realistic jewel case, products with labels added and much more. If you go to a bookstore, browse the 32 page color section and you'll be blown away with the quality of the projects contained in this book.

There is photorealism, drawing with stylized brushes, wonderful perspective projects, 3D for the web, using envelops and TONS more.

This is the book to get if you are already comfortable with FreeHand and want to expand your creative abilities.

Terrific sci-fi from Holloway Books
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-04-26
The year is 2073. The United States has been divided with parcels of land given to African Americans. These are institutionalized ghettos, surrounded by walls, guarded, and monitored heavily by police (called "Bruisers" for their love of inflicting pain). The story follows two men living in New Watts: Ashleigh and Zeke. Ashleigh is a radical actor who presents street plays based on outlawed books such as The Autobiography of Malcolm X (his great, great grandfather). Zeke works for The Man by day (for which he gets a pass outside of the city) while running a cell of Black Radicals by night.

It's only a matter of time until the two men's paths cross. As it is, the whole book becomes "a matter of time." From the opening scene which sets up a device used by law enforcement to reverse time after a crime has occurred (where the criminal would be arrested for something they intend to do), author Kent Smith introduces a science fiction element which sounds like it might rival the "pre-crime" scenario of Philip K. Dick's "Minority Report." When Ashleigh and Zeke team up, they decide to hijack the time travel device and use it for resetting history, going back to 1964 and encouraging Malcolm X to initiate a Black Revolution.

When Ashleigh finally sees his ancestor, it's the moment when Malcolm X is stabbed in an airport bathroom. Scared out of his wits, Ashleigh pulls off the greatest performance of his life, taking over the life of X. Black Power meets the Space Time Continuum in this insightful take which draws upon Charles Dickens's A Tale of Two Cities. Future X also strongly recalls Michael Moorcock's sci-fi classic, Behold the Man, in which a time traveler assumes the life of Jesus of Nazareth, bowing to a fate which seems predestined.

Holloway was a notoriously cheap publisher. It's obvious that they didn't spend much (if anything) on proofreading Smith's work. It's dotted with typos, occasional homonym abuse (perfectly understandable), and an occasional misspelling ("looser" rather than "loser"). Luckily, these are easy to overlook due to the story being so compelling.

SERIOUSLY DEEEEEEP !!!!!!!

As a young Blackman who has been an astute reader since I was a child, I found this book incredible. Kent has a wonderful ability of story telling unlike anything I have read in quite some time. In the book I found this extremely interesting that he fingered the RAND Corporation in experimenting with time travel, Marshall Law and "the outlaw of reading books", just like it used to be back on the PLANTATION............. HMMMM. If you like science fiction, then this is a must have, you won't be able to put it down till your finished.
