It's Friendship Day! On Friendship Day friends around the world have parties and wear special friendship bracelets. The problem is, sneaky Swiper has been swiping friendship bracelets from all over the world!

Dora's World Adventure follows Dora, Boots, Diego, and Swiper the Fox to four locations: the Eiffel Tower in France, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the Winter Palace in Russia, and the Great Wall of China.

In each country, Dora interacts with various friends, saying "hello" in the native tongue. For example, when in Tanzania, Dora meets up with her friend N'Dari; in that country, "jambo" means hello.

Dora's World Adventure is an excellent book for introducing children to world geography and world cultures. My son has been asking about the various countries, relating various cultural aspects and landmarks that he learned from the book.

In the back of the book is a perforated glow-in-the-dark bracelet that your child can wear, which is a nice added touch.

My son also also has the CD-ROM game of the same name, which is also very good.

My son got this as a favor at a birthday party when he was one. He loves this book and wants us to read it to him over and over. Now, when we say "Elmo says touch your nose!" He will do it! The best one is when "Elmo says do a shimmy shake"! You have to see it. I just wish it was a board book instead of pages, since he has ripped out several pages and now I need a new copy.

For a book that covers so many disparate types of daytime programs (game shows, soap operas, sports, cartoons and kids' shows, and so on), the volume is remarkably accurate, well-written and heavily researched. You'd think the author was an expert on every genre. Maybe he is, but more likely, he just cared enough to get everything right. How refreshing.

Amazing prayer book

Review Date: 2004-12-28
It is difficult for me decide if this is the best prayer book ever. "Queen of the Apostles Prayerbook" is in a close tie with it.

The "Essential Catholic Prayer Book" is the best prayer book to give some one as a gift or to purchase for yourself if you are seeking gudiance in your prayer life, or are looking for new ways to pray, or returning to prayer after a long absence. It includes many traditional staple prayers and devotions, and those that are less well known, such as the Divine Mercy prayers, the Chaplet for the Infant of Prague, and the most recent set of mysteries that were added to the rosary.

"The Essential Prayer Book's" advantage over the "Queen of the Apostles Prayerbook" is its inclusion of essays on methods of prayers, which provide helpful guidelines. This section encompasses such topics as: how scripture can complement prayer life, how meditatively praying with chaplets differs from basic vocal prayers, and the use of meditation as a source of prayer. Great information for some one who does not have the time or familiarity with writings of people like Theresa of Avila, John of the Crosss or other inspired authors who have written books on approaches of prayer. It also has a great dictionary of terms. This would be a wonderful gift for parishes to give to their faith formation classes.

This is a wonderful summarized book of Catholic Prayers. The author has attempted to really include biblical quotes, as well as quotes from Saints and Doctors of the Church. The author uses a wonderful use of ideas on how to pray, and different ways to pray, while stating that it is the reader's preference of prayer that is best. The chapters discuss the following:

Basic Prayers, Morning Prayers, Daily Prayers, Evening Prayers, Prayers Before Mass, the Order of Mass, Prayers Before Communion, After Communion, After Mass, Before Confession, After Confession, to Jesus Christ Crucified, to the Sacred Heart, to the Holy Name, to the Child Jesus, for Divine Mercy, to the Holy Eucharist, to the Holy Spirit, the Blessed Trinity, Prayers to the Mary, Saints Prayers to Mary, Prayers to Mary Under Special Titles, Devotions, Prayers for Personal Needs, for Particular Groups, for Holidays, Prayers for the Sick, Dying, and Deceased, Prayers for Saintly Intercession, to the Holy Angels, for Friends and Family, for Special Intentions, and lastly the brief manual of ways to pray.

I highly recommend this book!

Essential Indeed!

This book is a lovely compendium of centuries of Catholic tradition in the form of prayer. The book starts off with an introduction to prayer, why we pray, why we should pray, how prayer is found in both the Old and New Testaments and how we can overcome difficulties to prayer. The book ends with a brief "manual" of ways to pray; whether it be praying at a certain time of day, reflective prayer while studying an aspect of life (be it physical or spiritual), different types of prayer (thanksgiving, intercession, contritiion, etc etc).

Between these two chapters are 250 prayers that are steeped in Catholic tradition. Prayers range from everyday prayers known to every Catholic (Our Father, Glory Be, Hail Mary, Apostles Creed), to prayers to Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, prayers to Mary and the Saints and prayers for specific intentions (for the sick, confessional, before/during/after the Mass). There are a number of devotionals and litanies in the book which I found especially spiritual, as well as some of the more well-known chaplets (prayers using rosary-beads as a structure for the prayer) and novenas.

Overall, this is one of the most complete books I've ever read on the topic of prayer. It was well worth the ... I paid for it, and I've spiritually recouped my expense with the first week of use of this book. For someone who relies on structured prayer, this book will be invaluable and will offer some nice tips and guides to help nurture your prayer life. I would (and do) highly recommend this book for anyone who wishes to deepen their prayer life. I think this book would also make a great gift.

The Exchange Student is another great Malcolm in the Middle story by Pan Pollack. This sensational short novel is just like watching an episode on television, and with your imagination seeing all the characters you forget it is actually a book.

In this episode the Krelboyne class is hosting an exchange student for a week and a host family needs to be found. Lois finds out and offers to have the host the student in their house. He will stay in the boys' room. To Malcolm, Reese and Dewey this an excellent opportunity for a slave. When Malcolm's teacher shows up with the student to everyone's surprise she is a girl named Camillia. Lois is thrilled, Camilla is the daughter she always wanted. The boys are thrown out of their room for Camillia and she quickly starts to take Malcolm's role in the family and at school, much to his jealousy. Reese and Dewey are not thrilled either with the inconvenience to their lives and there is nothing they can do. Meanwhile Mother's Day is coming up.

This is an excellent book for readers of all ages. It is a short novel so kids or those who do not like reading long novels can read it too. Krelboyne Parrot also by the same author Pam Pollack is as good as this novel if not better. Tom Mason another author also has some books in this series. I have read The Hostage Crisis, which is good and worthwhile buying, but not in the same league as Pollack's work. This is an hilarious novel, I will definitely be buying the other books in this series I have not yet read as you can never have enough Malcolm in the Middle.

This book is about a family that gets an exchange student who is a genus like Malcolm, to come stay for a week of ciaos. It's like a normal day at there house ciaos is everywhere and it's time to go to school, Malcolm finds out at school that his mom has volentered to have an exchange student come stay and he wasn't happy. The door bell rang the next day they opened up the door not to expect that the student was a girl! That meant that Camellia would get the boys room and they would have to squeeze on the couch. All of a sudden the phone rings and it's Francis Malcolm holds the phone up to Reese Francis says that he sent the Mother's day gift already and he cut off the nose of his school's statue and told them when they get it throw it out or throw it away. After that phone the boys were upset because everything was going Camellia's way, the next day it was time to go to the barber shop in the mall, Malcolm and Reese didn't want haircuts and at the barber it was even worse. When they were in the chairs they started fighting and spraying shaving cream everywhere, after they were done they were banned from ever getting a hair cut again. When they got home Dewey was acting strange, they tried to get it out of him but he wouldn't tell. At dinner time Camellia found a package under the bed and she gave it to Lois, she opened it to find a Mother's day gift and a nose. The next day they went to the mall and bought a Mother's day gift, that night Malcolm checked for the gift it was gone. They went out for Mother's day dinner and got banned from that restaurant. I can not give away the ending but if this book has seen interesting for you go buy, borrow, or check it out thank you for reading my review.

Wholeness and Holiness

Ms. DuBoulay has created a fascinating biography of one of the spiritual giants of the Catholic Reformation of the sixteenth century. Teresa of Avila is portrayed as one who lived in two worlds. The world of her visions, her devotion, her absolute obedience, and her writings show a woman who was totally in love with God and deeply indwelt by the Holy Spirit. The other world was the world of humanity - a world of conflict, jealousies, illness, politics and death. Teresa was amazing because she could live completely in both of these worlds with no apparent conflict. What a wonderful model for those of us who struggle to life a faith based life in this secular world! Ms. DuBoulay has opened this world to us and given us a glimpse at what in means to be truly holy and whole.

One of the, (if not the), best bios on St. Teresa of Avila

A wonderful account of the life of a determined and indefatiguablable woman! Teresa's "ordinary human-ness" comes across clearly in her initial ambivalence at the idea of becoming a nun. However, once she makes the decision, Teresa commits herself wholeheartedly. It readily becomes apparent Teresa made the right choice, for soon God begins communicating directly with her...a mysticism which is to last throughout her life. The convent, though, has more of a social focus than a focus on God, and after experiencing two Divine encounters, Teresa finally sheds any and all ties she retained to the matieral world and embarks upon re-estalishing the strict, cloistered lifestyle of the hermits of Mt. Carmel. Thus, with the help of influential friends, including St. John of the Cross, Teresa undertook the great reformation of the Carmelite Order, ultimately founding 16 "Discalced" Carmelite communities throughout 1500s Spain. The book includes a map of Spain, with each of Teresa's foundations marked, helping to put into perspective the distances, as well as the rigors and dangers Teresa and her nuns faced in their grueling travels, as they established new communities. Teresa's selfless love for God and the heroic measures she undertook in serving His Will are inspiring and beautifully depicted.

Terrific Biography of a Very Human Saint

What I found extraordinary about this book is how the author packed in so much detail yet kept the book flowing and interesting. Besides including the dates and places of every convent St. Teresa founded, Ms. du Boulay expounds on much personal information. Yet the book is concise, relatively short. This is a very well-written biography. St. Teresa's life is covered from birth to death and after, and I found I could relate to her so much. Her accomplishments were great, but she was very human, and I think most of us will see some of ourselves reflected in this biography. Now I want to read St. Teresa's writings. I was interested in learning about her when I chose to read this book. Now I'm fascinated with her! This is good biography. I recommend this if you like the genre. And if you're interested in the contemplative life.
