I thought this was an amazing book. Lisa has a way of giving advice and encouragement that never sounds condescending or preachy. She really has a beautiful spirit. I've given this book as a gift to several of my girlfriends.

Not only is a quick read, it has some great ideas for how to help any Mom with the struggles that she faces every day. I really enjoyed it and look forward to trying ideas in her "rest stops". One note though it is very spiritual, so if that isn't your thing you may not like it as much.

I really enjoyed this book and found it very helpful. Lisa shows busy moms how to take care of their spirits, bodies, souls, selves, and relationships. After discussing the importance of each area, she gives several specific examples of how to take care of this part of you. For example, under taking care of your soul, she lists some fun things to do with your family--such as pillow fights, a paper airplane distance contest (big hit at my house!), making a house out of cardboard and having a meal in it, playing dodgeball (outside!), buying a cake and having them print "Happy Monday" on it, taking the kids to breakfast at a fast food restaurant in their pajamas, etc. I liked that she not only discussed general considerations for us as moms and WHY it is so important to take care of ourselves (and that we aren't being selfish in doing so), but she shows us HOW.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It helped put my life into perspective. Sometimes we all run fast and live hard until we realize that there comes a point when we need to rest and come back home-----to God. I want to thank Lisa Whelchel for writing such a fine story. The title caught my eye since so many of us are familiar with the show that started off with so many memories. For me it was the beginning of the end of my elementary school life and the beginnings of my High School days and til It's last year (1987-1988) of my first year in college. I hope that with all of our memories and best times we also find the time to read Lisa's Book. Great book! Go get it! :)

I enjoyed this book and was moved by it. I am a fan of Lisa's since her "Facts" days; I did my research first and I knew that the book did not have a lot of detail about her work on the show, so I didn't have those expectations. The book is religious in nature but in my opinion it was a very accessible, breezy read and I think there is something in it for everyone. In fact, I read it, and then I read it AGAIN as soon as I finished it! It really made me stop and think. I laughed, I cried, I said, "oh yeah, I know *exactly* what she's talking about!" Give it a look, it will be worth your time.

This book basically told the story of Lisa's life, from her childhood, to acting, and then about her marriage and parenthood. The chapters were well broken down into various aspects of her life, with her telling us what God has taught her at the end of each chapter. I loved the humor in the book, especially the words of wisdom from Lisa's mother.

I can really relate to her...

This book was a great read, and I have learned things from Lisa that are actually helping me get through the days. I didn't want to put it down until I finished it, and I want to get a copy for all my friends. She may have been a star, and she's different from me in plenty of ways. But she's also so much like me as a Christian woman, wife, and mother. When I'm having a rough day, I just remember reading about how she went through something similar and how she got through it, whether it be a major life struggle, or just dealing with my kids when they're having a particularly bad day.
I went to one of her Mom-Time conferences a couple of months ago, and there I learned that Lisa is so down to earth. The book shows that about her even more. It has been such a blessing to me already, and it's a book I plan to read at least once a year.

This book is an answered prayer for me. I was in a Christian store and needed something to uplift me. I feel so exhausted as a mom to 2 boys (a toddler and one in grade school). I prayed to God and He led me to find this book. The title first caught my eye. Then as I read the back cover I thought this is the book for me. I was so excited to read it as soon as my kids went to bed. Wow! The author truly understood what I was going through. I am so thrilled of all the basketful of ideas she has to refresh me: body, soul and spirit. I recommended it to my sister-in-law and she can't wait for me to be done reading it. Then after reading some portions of it, she decided to get one for herself. I praise God for Lisa Whelchel for leading her to write the book and share her experience and wisdom with fellow mothers. If you're a Mom, it's truly a great book to have.

This book was recommended by another mom. At first it sounds like something for first time moms. This is not the case. Each chapter is easy to read with lots of great ideas and suggestions. Lisa talks about taking care of youself so you can be a better mom. Every chapter focuses on the mom in different areas. Then at the end of each chapter, Lisa shares suggestions to accomplish it. She encourages moms to try one new thing, but to not feel guilty if you don't do them all. And a bonus of this book is that you can go online and receive an email encouraging you to put it into action. You can select a topic to work on for 21 days. I just finished working on cleaning your home. Everyday I got an encouraging email with tips and a prayer. It was really amazing. At the end of the 21 days, you select another topic. This is all free for those who purchase this book. I highly suggest it to any mom regardles of age or number of children!

I borrowed this book from the library and found it very informative on different kinds of homeschooling and different ways that "families" do it (even if they're not real families). I liked that she explained, without going into excessive detail, Charlotte Mason, eclectic homeschooling, unschooling, etc. I am happy, however, that I borrowed this book and didn't pay for it... can't see myself needing to read it more than once.

My husband wanted us to homeschool, he told me this when our first born was a baby. I was not into the idea. I read this book. It changed my mind. This book is responsible for me homschooling. Now my oldest is 6, it is our second year to homeschool. I am so thankful that we are doing it. I have read this book about 4 times. Its fun to read. And when I have friends who are considering homeschooling or curious about it being something they could do, I always lend them this book.

Before I ever read this, I had a certain idea or stereotype of what homeschoolers were and thought 'I don't fit into that description' after reading this, I saw that anyone can homeschool...people just like me are doing it! It doesn't matter if you have one child, three children or ten. This book discusses several different types of families, and their methods and reasons for homeschooling.
After reading it, there is a good chance you will be excited about homeschooling!

The "families" ("composites" she admits in the introduction) were way too fictionalized to be relatable. And the tone of each story was way too high up on the positives of home schooling while minimizing the negatives (if any- a messy house? being busy? that was about it) All these "families" were saved by homeschooling and now they love each other, are responsible, get along great, the kids love it, they're learning so much, etc. It also felt like I was reading Lisa's story over & over again because pieces of it kept getting woven into each story she created. It's worth two stars because it tells you the different styles of homeschooling. The few resources listed in the back could easily be found in other books worth owning (Top 100 Picks by Cathy Duffy- that one's great). I skimmed through this in a couple hours one night (couldn't stand the cheezy chapter openings- it's all way too contrived) & now it gets to go back to the library.

I knew a woman I socialized with home-schooled her kids and I became curious. This was the first book I ever read about the subject. It is great! I covers many aspects of homeschooling. It gives you a peek inside the world of homeschooling. The appendix is most helpful with tons of listings to help you in your quest for knowledge. It is the only book I recommend to anyone curious about homeschooling.

And Lisa, nobody wants to read about fake families...real families that homeschool and have their ups and downs is more interesting reading! Skip this book! Homeschooling books are everywhere, you can find something better!

I am a very busy mom with 2 teenage boys 16 & 17. I get up early in the morning to do my bible study and pray. Most mornings I was feeling like I was rushing to get through my prayers, I was having a hard time concentrating because of all the things I needed to do that day. Having this book slows me down because it has such great ideas to think and pray about. It is not just for my children. It prompts you to pray for myself, my husband, my pastor and my childrens sunday school teacher. I have found this book to be the most useful of my prayer journal. It reminds me to pray about the things that mean the most to me. She is really in tune with the praying needs of mothers.

Lisa Whelchel's "Creative Correction" is a good parenting resource. I was skeptical about the study because my kids are both teenagers: what could I do to better parent at this stage in my kids' lives? But I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only did Lisa and the Lord have some parenting tips for me. They also had in mind to give me a better understanding of my own relationship as a child with God and my parents. I would recommend this study specifically to parents of younger children because they will definitely gain maximum benefit from it, but anyone who is (or plans to be) a parent or in a Christian leadership position would reap wisdom from it as well.

However, the video teaching didn't give me anything that wasn't already in the workbook. And the material in the Bible study workbook comes directly from Lisa's trade book of the same name. So, buy that, instead.

Be "creative" in dumping poop in your child's room? How can this book have a publisher?,

This is the study guide she uses to back up her disgusting claims in her hardcover book "CREATIVE CORRECTION."
Whatever she says, Jesus would not approve of her disgusting methods. He said "Whoever harms one such as these had better be bound by a millstone and thrown into the sea." Pretty strong words that should make would-be degraders of children think again.

The "creative" in the hard cover book means suggesting punishments like putting children in handcuffs, and making them walk on dog poop. She doesn't believe in discussion, only immediate compliance to her commands, which are sometimes very absurd or cruel themselves, like not allowing bathroom visits.

She says she was "raised in the South where she was compelled to called all adults sir and ma'am." Is she saying her methods follow "good southern discipline?" Is filling a little boy's room with "manure" (page 75 in the book "Creative Correction") "good southern discipline?"

She gets "creative" by having them earn get out of jail (means punishment) free cards. Will the cards get them out of the punishment of "molding children" that uses "screwdriver" "hammer" and "sandpaper" techniques? (p.133) Hopefully her "respectful southern children" will respect themselves and give her a get out of HER jail free card.

This book is just wonderful.......Definately a must read, the Lisa Whelchel Website was very helpful to me in making my "Purchasing" Decision.

The study book, and book, have both led me to some scriptures that were much needed and appropriate for my situation......Praise God that Lisa followed God and wrote this book!

I do not know where the first person got such horrible ideas from the book, maybe they should read it, as the other reveiwer had reccomended.

My opinion when I bought the book, if I could get just one idea, just one, to help me it would be worth it....I have received a lot more that I planned!

I LOVE this book and the Creative Correction Bible study I am going to at my local church. I am a mom of 3 and have been a teacher for 14 years and I find these ideas refreshing and innovative. They are ideas filled with common sense but the MOST important thing is they tie God's word into everyday situations and apply it in understandable ways to children's lives. The kids see that the Bible really does apply to them and can help guide them in their day to day relationships and choices and gives them a reason to make the right choice. I have chosen many ideas already to use in my home and will be using lots of others in my classroom as well. I haven't read another book that is so practical and helpful in raising children. If you actually READ it, you will see what I mean. Thank you so much for writing this!

Like most moms, I want to have obedient, fun children. I was, however, struggling to find effective means to discipline the children when they strayed. This book is one which I plan to read regularly so that I can take more and more of Lisa's ideas to help me with the kids. I would highly recommend it. I already bought a second copy for my sister and I plan to recommend it to anyone who is searching for something new to do to reach the heart of the child. Contrary to what some have written, this book does not endorse or encourage abuse of any kind.

I don't know what makes me feel sadder: the book itself, or the many 5-star reviews. This author uses the words of scripture to advocate what amounts to abuse, and this is how "Christians" are supposed to parent?? As for the book being religious, if you happen to think that quoting a lot of scripture makes you a good Christian, then you will probably think she is one. Sadly, in my experience, even a devil can quote scripture to suit his own ends. And, this is the bottom line for me. I have a hard time seeing her recommended punishments as the acts of someone who is following the spirit of Christ. (Would Christ have corrected a child with hot sauce or beatings??) The book made my stomach ache. I am sad for the children enduring this kind of discipline, and I am sad for the well-meaning parents who will try these methods because they think that doing so will make them good Christian parents.

Some people have suggested that you read the book and just skip over the more outrageous sections. But, there are far better books out there that allow for effective discipline. I don't think there is a single sound suggestion IN her book that can't be found elsewhere, and there are many suggestions that I found extremely upsetting.

If you want a discipline book written by a committed, conservative Christian that does NOT advocate physical punishment, try the Sears' books on discipline. Or, better yet, read the "How to Talk" series. If you want a book on discipline that actually is reliable and research-based try the books by Alan Kazdin. Or, better yet, if you've gotten to the point where Lisa Whelchel's methods seem reasonable to you, see a family therapist before trying any of these interventions.

I am the parent of three, wonderful, compassionate, and well-behaved children and I have never once struck them, or resorted to emotional manipulation. Please put this book out with the trash where it belongs.

Creative Correction, is just what it says. Lisa Whelchel does a great job writing this like a good loving conversations with a fellow sister in Christ who is struggling with raising well-behaved, well-educated, well trained godly children. There is life experiences, to assure you, she knows what you are going through, examples of going to God, Do as I say and as I do myself, and then practical, creative and Biblical tools. A definite asset to any parents library, although mine stays right by my bed and I read it every night. These are things that are easy to impliment, make pounds of sense and will yield glorious outcomes because they are directed at the heart. I have seen significant improvement in my confidence as a loving mom trying to discipline in an effective way that is going to penetrate and motivate. It works!!! because it involves the Creator of your child, and that is were all the answers are, at the Creator, and Heavenly Father's hand. He is the one who can change any situation, but be prepared to do some changing too.

This lady is crazy. A sadistic monster. I wouldn't treat my dog like this, much less my kid. Tell me, how many kids did Jesus Hotsauce.

I might, however, recommend this book: it tells you everything NOT to do as a parrent. Example: telling a kid she or he can't go to the bathroom in a supermarket, just to say "no." Not that a four year old can distinguish the importance of "No" to taking a dump from "No" to running onto a major highway; but hey, who wants to get hyper-technical when playing dictator.

I had a fleeting hope that this was a Jonathan Swift-like satire, but evidently, no such luck. The author is not NEARLY that bright, though I COULD see her eating her children. Read the book once, and it sucks. Read it again and, yes, it still sucks.

Lisa does, however, have a sharped tounged, do-that-snide-hair-flip sense of humor, and why not: If you're going to write a manual on raising a new generation of obsessive compulsives(nothing against people with this problem, only with the parents who terrorize their kids into it) woman haters and serial killers, why not make it fun, exciting and zesty.

But after you read it, burn it. If you hold the book in your hand too long, it will probably start to decompose your skin.

AND FOR GOD'S SAKE, KEEP PRODUCT AWAY FROM CHILDREN.

This book has been a reference our family has gone to time and time again. The other two reviews written before mine were obviously by individuals who have not even read the book. She has written many good books but this is one of my favorites.

This book discusses creative ways in which to humiliate and shame your child into submission. Child playing with matches? Burn up his favorite toy. Child wants to go to the bathroom? Say no just to teach her submission to you in all things. Child hits a sibling? Put him in boxing gloves all day so he can't eat or play. Child giggles and asks for water before bedtime? Tell her she can stay up all night but make her stand in the middle of the room until she falls over. Yeah, this is great parenting advice.
