Where has this book been? One of the most comprehensive books on the Duke I've been able to add to my collection. Almost reads like a novel as there are so many behind the scenes tidbits like how much the Duke was paid for each picture, who the co-stars were and what happened to those actors later in their careers.
More good info on the Duke and Hollywood pictures than any other book I've come across, a must if you are a John Wayne fan!

An amazingly detailed and comprehensive guide to John Wayne's films. If you're a Wayne (or film fan) this is a must for your collection. Mr. Landesman has outdone himself with the amount of previously unavailable information in this book. Hope to see more from this informative author.

The Most Serious and Egaging Wayne Biography

Wills, author of many other works, including the amazing Lincoln at Gettysburg, sets an examination of Wayne's films squarely in the American zeitgeist - given them added heft and importance.
Wills will appear at San Francisco's Grace Cathedral on October 15, 2007, for a conversation with Dean Alan Jones. It will also be webcast live and archived for later listening. More information is available at: http://www.gracecathedral.org/calendar/detail.php?eid=1053.

Engrossing biography of the Duke!

Review Date: 1997-05-11
An immensely engaging analysis of the actor who for many years was the #1 most popular film star in the world, even many years after his death. The author diagnostically and exhaustingly detailed perspective of Wayne the actor vs. Wayne the man is what sets it apart as a landmark bio. You will not be displeased. In one chapter the author discusses the fact that, after having seen "High Noon" he was so upset with the scene wherein Coop throws his marshall's badge into the dusty road that he was instrumental in seeing to it that the script writer was investigated and later forced out of the country after being suspected of pro-communist leanings during the McCarhty witchtrials. Wayne is ultimately admired as an artist yet condemned for his staunchly conservative political views

This is a comprehensive and amazing inside look at John Wayne's greatest dream...to recreate on film the TRUE story of one of the most inspiring events in US History. The book explains how the Duke spent 14 years preparing for this film and an equal number of years working to pay the expenses this movie cost him PERSONALLY. He believed in this project so much that he risked EVERYTHING putting it on film....sparing NO EXPENSE...in time, effort and money. The book is packed with glossy color and b&w pictures....interviews, and background information about EVERY aspect of this great motion picture....The Alamo.

Very charming book. Brought back many memories of my old neighborhoods in Chicago. It was an interesting insight into John Wayne Gacys childhood. A good read.

I enjoyed reading this very personal and engaging true-life story about a simpler time in America. It tells of the reality beneath this nostalgic image, shedding light on the question of why, from this seemingly idyllic environment, an innocent child developed to become the unbelievably evil "killer clown".

Splendid Qualtiy Book!

Review Date: 2008-03-01
This book is absolutely splendid! The series represents the very best quality in naval writing. Wegener is a first rate mind and his analysis of German Naval Stategy in the First World War is informative and provided by a naval officer who was on the scene and played an important role in German Naval thought during the inter-war years. If you are interested in German Naval affairs during the two world wars--- read this book!

Lessons on strategy

This title belongs to the "Classics of sea power" collection edited by the United States Naval Institute. It's a good indicator that the book is worth reading. And certainly it is. Wolfgang Wegener was a German officer at the Imperial Navy during World War I. He disagreed on how the naval war was being fought and expressed himself on papers sent to his superiors. One of the major ideas he had, was that Germany needed to get ports on the Norwegian or French coasts in order to avoid British blocade. The importance of his thinking is that it led to Raeder's planning before World War II. The main text is an essay published after the Great War on which Wegener critiques the way the Navy was (mis)used during the entire conflict; here is where he points out the requirements (a hold on Norway and France) in order to achive a victorious campaign in the future. This edition includes some papers written by Wegener during the First World War, which set the basis for his later work. This is a book of geopolitics and strategy, certainly a must read for all those interested on naval affairs.

Great professional cookbook. Although this book is not for the home cook, the recipes can be modified for smaller portions just watch the seasoning. One thing to remember is that the recipes are fully tested but they are NOT standarized because they were written for instruction. What this means is that most of the recipes are not the classic versions but modified versions designed in order to instruct the student. My only complain, and I always have a complain, is the quality of paper which affects the picture quality as well. The paper seem too thin vs. in the previous versions, the paper was thicker. This happened also with a couple of the CIA books. I think this is a new trend with textbooks. Another thing I want to point out is that the Software that comes with it will not work on Vista. It only seem to work with Windows XP. Like other books that I purchase from Amazon, this book had the corners bended and the front cover was scratched. I think that Amazon should work on the this issue but overall I'm happy with the purchase.

It is what it is, and well packaged for the viewer. Most have slipcases, a full signture from Gacy and tell his skewed side of the story. A must-have for a true crime fanatic, but not a must-read.

A Question of Doubt? -- No.

This book, (clearly) written by Gacy himself (and without the benefit of an editor), is excellent for those who are already very familiar with the details of his case, and have some understanding of his personality. On it's face, the book is nothing more than "The Lies of John Wayne Gacy: Final Cut" ... but with enough back ground information, the book is an invaluable resource ... It provides the reader with the opportunity (as limited as it may be) to see why it was that Gacy told the stories that he did, what effect he hoped to have on the reader, why he thought that a particular lie might work ... If you are not very familiar with the case, the book is not for you -- if you find a copy, BUY IT ... but set it aside until after you have read another book about Gacy -- I would recommend "Killer Clown" by Terry Sullivan.

The West is the Best

Review Date: 1999-06-09
For any Rifter, this is the must have of the collection. With details of the Pecos Riders and other such empires, the information alone is worth it. But there is also more character classes, weapons and gear than one can shake a stick at. The best part of the sourcebook it that it'll help recall some of the best (and worst) westerns you've seen and BAM instant adventures.

This book is great. I suggest the preacher, which is good for interesting play. For psychic players, there is a psi-slinger and it is great. The best list for the best TW weapons I have ever seen.
