Very Nice Reproductions of Sargent WatercolorsReview Date: 2007-10-15
Photo reproduction decent to good. (I've never seen anything remotely rivalling the originals.) Published by the Brooklyn Museum, owner of the originals and by Pomegranate Publications. Pomegranate has done very nice art production for quite a few years. Lovely stuff, in fact.
A small set of such prints could be nicely displayed on either wall or desk. Simply place a print in an inexpensive frame (e.g. clear plastic) with an easily accessible print pocket. When you feel like it, rotate one of the other seven into the frame to suit your fancy. A nice and reasonably priced way to enjoy Sargents.
Glad I bought it.
PS What was Sargent thinking when he did the bits of sky in "Bridge of Sighs"?! At the top, the sky looks a mauve overcast with a nice cloud suggestion via a deliberate bloom? But, below the bridge the sky looks clear and bright cerulean? Well, Sargent could get away with it, I guess.

A teaching workbook with usable applicationsReview Date: 2002-02-06
There are some limitations as with any workbook. It would have been useful if the different water quality model input parameter tables were discussed at the beginning of their application chapters. Also, it would have been useful if there was a more extensive GUI, however, having all the input data in a simple tabular format is still useful.
The feature of putting the set-up and applications up front with the theory chapters at the end, rather than mixing them together is very helpful.
I will be recommending that this workbook be used in a senior level environmental sciences course for which I am trying to get more of a quantitative underpinning.

A little too academic for me.Review Date: 2001-06-24
