I got this book to homeschool my 1st grader. It was OK. It was way to easy for him, and didn't really teach him anything new. (He is not the best student, either, so that's saying a lot). Also, there are no hands-on activities. I think that science is easier for kids to learn if they can do some hands-on activities.

The activities in this book adhere to the National Research Council's "National Science Education Standards and introduces science in a way young children can understand.

Learn Science uses an inquiry-based approach and each page of questions includes an answer key and detailed explanations. The answer section has notes for teachers, tutors or parents. A progress chart at the start along with a page of stars helps to keep kids motivated. There is also a certificate at the back of the book that can be placed on the refrigerator or bulletin board.

The fun sections include:

Level 1: Observing
Level 2: Predicting
Level 3: Explaining

Children learn to identify the root, stem, leaf and flower on a picture of a plant. They learn where animals live, the difference between hot and cold, how to maintain healthy teeth and how to be safe around electricity.

Learn Science K-2 provides a good introduction to the basics of animal life, human survival, products we use in daily life and safety issues.

This might be a good book for someone who has never tried Sudoku before. I was in that category, but after a couple of the puzzles, it was just way too easy and boring. There was no mental stimulation.

Poor format of book and hard to follow. Some of the exercises were rediculous and somewhat childish! I would not recommend it to anyone.
