Then check out THE CHARLIE CHAN COLLECTION, VOL. 4 Charlie Chan Collection, Vol. 4 (Charlie Chan in Honolulu / Charlie Chan in Reno / Charlie Chan at Treasure Island / City in Darkness) (4DVD)
I'm honored to appear in two special features, WELCOME TO RENO: AMERICA'S DIVORCE RESORT and RENO MEMORIES, the latter about my years in the 1940s as a dude wrangler on the Flying M E, an exclusive dude ranch outside of Reno catering to wealthy divorce seekers.
The producers wanted someone who could give a firsthand account of life in Reno during the 1930s and `40s, the heyday of the Reno six week divorce when Reno was known as the Divorce Capital of the World. They found me through my book, THE DIVORCE SEEKERS, a chronicle of my years on the Flying M E.
CHARLIE CHAN IN RENO is set at a swank Reno hotel catering to divorce seekers (inspired by Reno's famous Riverside Hotel). However, the similarity in character types rings true. As the movie opens, the woman, on her way to Reno (the Mary Whitman character), could have been any number of divorce seekers who came to the ranch. She looks the part, believe me. The dialogue for the Cab Driver is pretty authentic, too.
CHARLIE CHAN IN RENO may be the perfect Reno divorce movie!

Bill and Sandra take the reader back to a time that was unique and one that will probably never exist again. The photography is wonderful and probably tells a story all by itself.
This is definitely a worthwhile read and a great coffee table book!

Maple a powerfull toolReview Date: 2007-10-08
More informationReview Date: 2003-09-30
Most advanced math textbooks contain one or two chapters that turn me off. I must say that every chapter in this book had useful information or very good applications.
The opening chapter is a brief introduction to Maple V (some Maple 8 commands are posted on the books website). Note that Maple 9 is now out and no doubt Maple X will soon follow.
Chapters 1-7 cover planar systems in some detail, vectorfield in DEplot is a real winner here. Chapters 8 and 9 cover 3D and nonautonomous systems - the poincare command in Maple is a real time saver.
Chapters 10-12 cover a lot of research results on limit cycles - the most lucid I have seen in any textbook.
The remaining half of the book concentrates on both real and complex discrete systems. There are the usual cobweb diagrams, bifurcation diagrams and Mandelbrot set. Where this book comes into its own, however, is in Chapters 16-20.
Lasers and nonlinear optics are investigated using complex iterative maps. Fractals and even multifractals are discussed in some detail. The book ends with a chapter dedicated to chaos control.
Overall, the book is concise with pertinent examples and applications. It is not dogged down with math notation, theorems and proofs.
Strogatz, Perko and Allgood are good books to practice more Maple programing techniques.

systems. It covers all aspects and even more than usually thaught
in a class on dynamical systems. Especially, I like to see
many examples for various applications. These examples and the
Maple programs make it well suitable for students to learn
on dynamical systems by themself.
The MAPLE programs and web pages make this book unique.Review Date: 2001-08-04
Maple programs. Lots of material not covered in other books on this topic. Maple is my favorite package. The others are not
as user friendly. I felt I must write again since amazon have been showing excerpts from book. What a geat idea. Chapters in this book that interested me were fractals, multifractals and
optics. Authors web-site is given on back cover of book. Enjoy!
This is great bookReview Date: 2003-08-05
Book is best for students who want to get programs working quickly. There is a website with working programs. You should also look at Maple Application website for many many examples.
I recomend book to everyone.

A Delightful BL ClassicReview Date: 2008-02-29
The series, especially the first volume starts off a little rough and the art takes a bit of getting use to. Really, so many of the characters don't seem much different from each other but the story quickly captivated me and it didn't take much effort to tell which character is which. Personally I have grown to love the art. Earthian is also Kouga Yun's very first series so while I may have given her some slack based on that fact I am truly in love with this series.
The story revolves mostly around two angels from Eden, Chihaya and Kagetsuya who have been placed on Earth as plus and minus checkers respectively. The angels on Eden have come to the decision that the humans should be eliminated but before that, humans are at least given the chance to be judged, which is the job of plus and minus checkers. Though this is the premise, Earthian is an emotional story full of character development and the relationships the characters struggle to attain and keep. This is a BL series, the dialogue is pretty clear that there are some taboo relationships but this is also a fairly light shounen-ai series clearly more focused on devotion and the relationship itself.
Each book is bound in a lovely textured pearly cover and there is a color illustration on the first page of each volume. The quality of the pages are also better and smoother than the average domestic manga. An extra perk is the occasional new illustrations done by Kouga Yun, such as the cover and inside color illustration.

Makes me hungry for Brazilian foods!Review Date: 2007-05-01
Reviewed by Sharon Hudgins, author of The Other Side of Russia: A Slice of Life in Siberia and the Russian Far East
Reading "Eat Smart in Brazil" made my mouth water! I'm a big fan of the "Eat Smart" travel guides for food lovers--and I'm always delighted when another book in this series is published. This second edition of Joan Peterson's "Eat Smart in Brazil" certainly lives up to the series' theme, promising to tell you "How to Decipher the Menu, Know the Market Foods, & Embark on a Tasting Adventure." And what an adventure this is! After an explanation of the historical, geographical, and ethnic influences on Brazilian foods and a description of five different regional cuisines within that huge country, the author then satisfies your desire to eat by providing nearly two dozen recipes for Brazilian dishes from appetizers to breads to desserts.
You'll also want to carry this book with you on your next trip to Brazil, because it contains a comprehensive glossary of food terms and cooking techniques in Portuguese (the language of Brazil), translated into English, as well as an extensive Menu Guide for translating terms that you'll find on menus and cafe chalkboards throughout Brazil. One of my favorite features of the Menu Guide is the author's marginal comments on many of the dishes listed: National Favorite, Regional Classic, Spectacular, Interesting, A Feast, Not to Be Missed, Excellent, Try Them All. Just reading these menu terms makes you want to book the next flight to Rio de Janeiro! Highly recommended!

Creme de la creme eroticaReview Date: 2004-07-18
A quality collection of erotic talesReview Date: 2004-02-16
The emphasis is on quality writing as much as erotic content. The contributors range from talented debutants to distinguished authors, including a fellow of The Royal Society of Literature.
Editor Mitzi Szereto breaks out of the limited constraints of the erotic genre to present a unique piece of literature. Erotic encounters and fantasies from every continent are skillfully blended in a book full of warmth, enigma and passion. The book is full of fun and adventure - and you wouldn't mind reading it on a train or a plane.
In fact, I suggest you do - who knows where it will lead?
I think this is what literature is supposed to be.

This book will improve your papersReview Date: 2008-01-13
I bought several writing books at the same time and this one stands out because not only is it a "how-to" book, but it is a workbook and mostly consists of exercises. There is plenty of space in the book to do the exercises right in the book. This is extremely important, because you can read about the rules for improving your writing, but you really don't learn how to use them until you practice rewriting actual sentences.
Significantly, this book has dramatically improved my ability to edit my own papers, which has been one of my nagging writing weaknesses.

the beginning of the book gives you the building blocks, and the later chapters help you put it all together. i realized that a lot of people who help you with proofreading don't really look for some of the organizational items that the author stresses.
i reccommend this book for any graduate student, as well as anyone else who is looking to improve their writing. it might also be a good tool for mentors to use to work with their students.

A must have for Frank Miller fans...Review Date: 2006-05-29
I've done some price comparisons online before purchasing these books, and amazon.com definately has the best price out there.
The packaging of the collection is eye catching; flat black with red foil lettering. The pages are quite thick and durable, a necessity for those of us who want to read them, as well as have something that looks good on a book-shelf.
The story and illustrations are now in larger print, giving you a better appreciation for the body of work.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Sin City books, this is still a good investment if you are fan of graphic novels. I was a fan of the film, and figured to give the books a try. Rather than spend a fortune tracking down the comics I thought I would try this. Not only does this series include a story-line not included in the film, but there is further elaboration on what you did not see in the film.
This is a great collection; the stories are wonderful, the packaging is great, and the price is right for what you are getting. I hope they continue to put these out. I know I'll be buying more.

Sin City at its B.E.S.T.!Review Date: 2006-02-12
When you're interested in comic book inking, page set-ups, art in general or how to bring a plot to paper, buy this. You won't be disappointed. You'll want to read this over and over again. Each single dialogue, sharper than a razor blade, the movements frozen in mid-air. This will truely leave you breathless and in awe. When you liked the movie, buy this. It lets you appreciate the detail and leaves you the time to discover what maybe got lost through the pace of cinematic story-telling. I didn't like the movie as much as these books. Why? Here I have the time to appreciate every single frame, to let the characters grow inside my head. The movie didn't leave me that room. To me it almost became a series of scenes filled with too much senseless violence. Not that the books are any less violent or that because they leave you your own pace in reading them, they'd prepare you for anything that you have coming your way. No way. I just think they leave you more time and space to appreciate what great art it is that you are looking at - and for what a great price.
