Love and faith are Dylan's bread and water in this novel. You can feel his pain as he watches his wife fight for her life in a deep coma, not to mention the loss of their first child. The lessons he learns and the people he meets on this journey will bring you to tears and then put a smile on your face. Read with a box of tissues and then buy a copy for everyone you know.

THis was actually the third book I have read by Charles Martin and so far my favorite. Unlike many other Southern Writers, He is not a tourtured soul beyond redemption! The characters are believable and likable and well developed. Thank you for a good Read!

This was such a wonderful book that I couldn't put it down. Because of this book I have now ordered all of Charles Martin's books and everyone of them has been delightful and so well written. My husband who is a retired editor says Mr. Martin is one of the best writers that he has read in a long time. After The Dead don't Dance, I read Maggie. I did not enjoy this book. I think the way the first book ended there didn't need to be a sequel on Maggie and this book was so very depressing but since then I have read When Crickets Cry, Chasing Fireflies and Wrapped in Rain. All of these books were delightful and very moving. I have already pre-ordered his next book coming out in July. I can't imagine anyone reading Charles Martin's books and not enjoying them.

The composition of this book is so lyrical; the writing flows in a steady stream of poetic heartbeats. I really enjoyed it. The book is very real and raw, and characters react to tragedy and trauma just as anyone else would. Some accept pain peacefully; others lash out and reject others.
Little details really help bring the characters to life. The main character and narrator, Dylan Styles may be grappling with major life decisions - what with his wife in a coma and his son's stillborn death and troubles a-plenty with his students - but he still takes time to think about silly little things, like the fact that he loves Wrangler jeans and can't stand Levis. It's this blend of big and small that really keeps the book from becoming fluffy or heavy-handed.

A Faith Based Book For Everyone

Review Date: 2008-04-09
A nice book, very quick read. Likes, not preachy, not drowning in religion, an actual story with religious ideology interspersed rather than the other way around. Nicely crafted characters, very memorable. I'm not usually a reader of faith based fiction (I didn't even realize it was a faith based book until I was well in to the reading of it). It gives you a lot to think about without making it too hard to chew! I loved the main characters and would snap of a full book about Amos in a moment.

Dislikes, the use of popular, famous people as descriptors. I've read older books that depend on this sort of short hand (say books from the 60's and 70's) and I'm always like "huh?" as I don't get what the author is referring to and it takes me completely out of the story. This device was used throughout the book and unless there is some revision down the line, a lot of it will not be understood by the reader. Even I had a problem knowing some of the current music (country western) references made in the book. But that may sound nit-picky for a book I read completely in one sitting. I truly couldn't put it down!

Every page of "Girlfriends Forever" is a treasure to read. That is why I have bought copy after copy of this book to share with my best and dearest friends.

It is filled with all the everyday things that girls laugh and talk about. It's not the kind of book that has to be read from cover to cover. You can read a page or ten pages from anywhere in the book and enjoy every minute of your reading time.

Her style is so warm and genuine you feel as if you're talking with an old friend. Wonderful to curl up with and reminisce about your own "girlfriend" experiences as you read. If you enjoy Susan Branch you must have this book.

- I love this book because I feel as though I was talking with someone who had my same doubts and questions.
- I love it because it's written in a plain and simple language.
- I love it because it makes me laugh.
- I love it because when I read it I feel as though Steve Ross were right beside me.
- I love it because it infuses me with the energy to keep on moving, exploring, asking, laughing, loving.

I have read this book twice and I still feel that it has something for me whenever I take it and open it randomly. It's like a friend who's there for me. Full of good advices and acceptance at the same time.

A joyful romp of a book.

Mr Ross makes simple the concepts behind yoga practice. The concepts which are in fact the very heart of yoga and without which physical yoga, by itself, is only going to do a body so much good.

I'd highly recommend this book to anyone, even if you're brand new to yoga, or just interested in yoga from a "what the heck is the philosopy of yoga, from a spiritual, religious perspective?" mindset.

Now down to the nitty gritty: Will this book make you happy? Actually, if you take it's message to heart and mind, I'd say yes.

I recommend reading this [[ASIN:0385524587 A Complaint Free World: How to Stop Complaining and Start Enjoying the Life You Always Wanted] with Happy Yoga, for a complete transformation.

My goodness! I wish I had this book 35 years ago! I bought it for my grandkids. I read it, and highlighted all my mistakes in a pink high-lighter, then used a yellow highlighter for my son and daughter-in-law's mistakes. My Son was not to receptive of learning these things about himself, but my daughter-in-law has read the book.
I hope they implement the book into their lives, but if they don't its their choice. I think its great.

Wonderful! I used this book along with Making Children Mind without Losing Yours. I bought these books out of frustration with my terribly two son. I wanted new ideas or suggestions in dealing with him, but more than anything to grow positively as a parent. I started the other book first, but began this one on the following Monday. I highly suggest reading both together, especially if you feel a little frustrated. I definitely lucked out finding this book. It was an answered prayer. We have a totally different household! I am even more excited to have read this before my 2 and 4 year olds get any older. Thank you!!!

The perfect comic strip for cat and dog owners!

Review Date: 2004-04-12
This book is a wonderful collection for any Mutts fan. The Mutts comic strip is so refreshing with it's delightfully uncomplicated main characters, Earl and Mooch, who want nothing but to love and be loved, and perhaps get a handout from the Fatty Snax man. Their simple outlook on life is a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of today's world. Even the artwork is clean and uncluttered. Some of the "stories" in this collection are simple one-liners, and some cover several pages. Some are funny, and others are simply sweet and heartwarming. Mutts is the perfect comic for any cat or dog lover, as the loveable idiosyncracies of each are highlighted here in a way that's sure to bring a smile to the reader's face. This or any of the other Mutts comic books would make a perfect treat for yourself or gift for a cat/dog-loving friend.

WONDERFUL! Be prepared to laugh until the tears roll down your face. If possible start with this book and read the books in sequence to be introduced to each of the characters. Besides...the books are all wonderful so ENJOY!
If you appreciate animals you can't help but love Mutts. Patrick McDonnell has captured human and fuzzy characteristics to perfection. He obviously appreciates and delights in the special qualities of all the species that share this world and
recognizes our responsibilities to them as well as to ourselves.
And he shares all of that in a uniquely delightful way.

"Mutts" is off to the best start possible.

I will keep this short and simple. The first volume of "Mutts" by Patrick McDonnell is simply the best comic strip since "Bloom County." This book was touching, funny, and cute. It took me to that special place where life is cozy and beautiful. If Mr. McDonnell can keep this strip going at a high level of quality like this first volume, then I will plan on reading "Mutts" for the rest of my life.

I reccommend this book to all my friends and anyone who is looking for a good fitness trainer but don't have the money for a live one, whether you are just starting out or you are stuck in a rut. I wanted to get a little more background on the life of a Secret Service Agent. I found this book filled with interesting tidbits of information. It was an easy read that I found entertaining, as well. His recounts of what it was like working around the Reagan administration, the Pope's US visit, etc. kept me interested for several hours worth of reading. It personalized some of the details that the public often may not realize.

If you have any interest in the presidency of Ronald Reagan or the Secret Service, I highly recommend this book. The tone is very matter-of-fact, but what comes through is what an honorable person Joseph Petro is. He lost out on a possible N.F.L career when he was drafted for the Viet Nam War, but our country, and especially its elected officials during the time of his service, gained a great deal.

A very engaging book.

Petro does a wonderful job at writing about what he is allowed to disclose yet still keeping the reader engaged. A great look at introducing youngsters to cultural diversity

Dirty Sally
Whoever you are is great look at introducing youngsters to cultural diversity. "Culture" basically refers to commonalities that run through a group of people with a shared heritage. Sometimes children probably believe that her culture - way of doing things - is the "right" one and that others are a bit "funny." As you read Whoever You Are, you can begin to look at other cultures with your child, aim for an appreciation of differences. Eventually, this will lead to an increased appreciation of the incredible variety of human attributes, flexible thinking, and less prejudice and stereotyping. This type of conversation has to take place. That is why I wrote a children's' book entitled, Dirty Sally..The untold stories of mixed race kids who find a new identity, love, faith and forgiveness through GOD.
There is an interesting story behind the title. I was often taunted or teased about being biracial. Some of my family members and friends called me Dirty Sally. Dirty Sally is an old slavery term used to identify the descendants or offspring of Sally Hemings, a former slave and the late President Thomas Jefferson. Sally Hemings was biracial her mother was ½ white and ½ black and her father white. This book focuses on the misconceptions surrounding racial identity and the importance of choosing one's racial identity. Dirty Sally is a must read not only for inter-racial families, but for all parents hoping to instill in their children a sense of understanding and compassion. I believe that change requires resistance and within that process we can help heal some of the wounds that continue to inflict on racially mixed children. Purchase available on Amazon.com the ISBN# is 9781432707743

I bought this book for my husband in anticipation of our adopted daughter from China. For starters, I was thrilled that the photographs showed multicultural, multigenerational fathers and daughters including a photograph of a white father with an Asian daughter.

The sentiments inside are beautiful. If you're looking for a self-help book, this isn't it. If you're looking for short, single sentences of wisdom and encouragement accompanied by moving and beautiful photographs, this is your book.

I found this book in Target and must admit I was a little embarrassed by the tears streaming down my face when I read it. It reminded me of my own father, a true inspiration, and how my husband will be as a father once we bring our daughter home. This is a wonderful Father's Day, birthday, or Christmas present for any father from any daughter.

Like the author, I'm a divorced dad of daughters so his foreward struck close to home. As if the words and pictures in this book weren't sappy enough on their own, my daughters recently gave me a copy to which they'd added a sentence or a paragraph next to a dozen or so of the author's lines which resonated with them. I nearly cry every time I read it.

My daughters bought this book for my husband for Father's Day; he was so moved by each sentiment that when his friend's wife gave birth to their first child a few days later (a girl!), my husband asked me to get this book to give to the new parents. He felt that it was the most profound gift for the occasion, not just for now but for future years, to be read and re-read at all stages of their daughter's life. If these pages don't touch your heart as you read each one.....you need to visit a cardiologist to make sure you still have a beating, functional heart! I read this book not because I am a wrestling fan, but because I wanted to hear about Eddie's life and how he ending up becoming a born again Christian.

It turns out that Eddie was from a Christian family but did not live the life very well until the last years of his life. Just before this I read the autobiography of Brian 'Head' Welch, the guitarist from Korn and how he found God. Several people in reviewing that book were offended by the many swear words used, but compared to Guerrero's book, Welch is a lightweight. And I thought for someone who was raised a Christian, how could Guerrero use so much swearing in his book.

I think he did a very good job of sharing his family life, his professional wrestling career and so forth, and while I don't think the book was supposed to be for religious encouragement-he did not do a good job presenting himself as a Christian. He was a very bad example as a matter of fact. I say this because he KNEW better. And chose to drink, and swear and EVEN have a child out of wedlock and live with a woman. This all troubled me.

But I realized that much of my younger life was lived similar. Therefore, all I can say is "isn't God's grace wonderful!!". He loves us despite our turning away from Him, and has a plan for everyone's life. He is always ready to forgive us and I am glad Eddie rediscovered this and died at peace with His Savior. No God, no peace....Know God, know peace.

Great book! Sad, but very memorable

I just re-read this book. I absolutely loved it and put it up there with the best wrestling books out there. You feel connected to Eddie just like you did when you saw him on tv or dvd or in person. His charisma showed through the ups and downs of this book.

I was left wondering what caused a lot of his demons though. He didn't fully explain the things that haunted him. Like his problems with his wife Vickie, he didn't really go into detail which left me wondering what she did wrong. Cheating? Their fights? Also I got the feeling there was more to his demons than he let on. It just left me curious. I'd like to see a book written by Vickie that might shed some light on things left unanswered in this book.

Eddie was honest. Brutally honest. He didn't back off from saying who he liked and disliked. He was very upfront about his drinking, drugs (though never mentioned steriods whether he used or didn't use them), and his problems. He never acted like a saint, but obviously wanted to be a good person. Thankfully he beat the addictions and enjoyed some time with his loved ones before he passed on tragically.

This book brought me to tears even in the second reading. It made me realize that life is a fragile thing and we got to respect and love people and show it while we can. Given Eddie's many brushes with death he was fortunate to be sober and drug-free for 4 years before his untimely death. Unfortunately, he paid the price for his past mistakes, but he got to patch things up with his wife and daughters, and reach new heights with his fans and ultimately becoming the World Champ!

Highest recommendation possible,(right up there with Mick Foley's Have A Nice Day!) buy this book and quit reading this review!

This is a book that my fours sons have all read recently, and they were all moved to tears. My 18yo has wanted to read this book for some time now, but we had trouble finding it for sale, as it sold out quickly.
I got this for him for Christmas. A book to keep. A great gift for any wrestling fan

from the begining to the end this book is so well written and told, its just awesome. No words can describe how GREAT this book is. There are some eerie things he writes about that kinda creep you out because the man has passed but none the less THE BEST BOOK WWE or any other WRESTLER have put out.

Wrestling has always been a guilty pleasure for me. I grew up watching the likes of Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan and the Bruiser with my dad. Now I watch with my son. There's nothing I enjoy more than watching grown men make complete fools of themselves. I like the pranksters best--guys like DegenerationX (Triple H and Shawn Michaels), John Cena and, of course, Eddie Guerrero. He brought a lot of laughter into our living room every week. But more than that, Eddie was--and is--an inspiration. He had a lot to overcome, and he did--and this tough guy wasn't afraid to proudly proclaim his faith in God and Jesus Christ. He gave credit where it was due, always. Viva la Raza, Eddie! You still live in Heaven--and through those of us who love and respect you!
