Before the seventh and final Harry Potter book came out I reread the 5 and 6 books so I would be more familiar with the facts. The cliffhanger at the end of the 6 book is huge there are hundreds of questions one could ask himself,is Dumbledore dead,is snape good, will Harry kill Voldemort, and there are countless others. The seventh book was really awesome It came out Friday night I read it sunday night. The plots and escapes are good and the book once you read it you feel as if it could be true, the everbody talks it amost sounds as if J.K. Rowling just copied down a story that really happened.
A thrilling & satisfying end

I watched the movies (1-4) before I read any of the books, but one day I saw the first book in my mother's office and I started to read it half-heartedly. I couldn't put it down. I then ordered the paperback set (Books 1-6) and read them all in a couple of months, while working 60+ hours a week. Sometimes I neglected to sleep. I ordered the last book the day I started reading book 6. I finished book six the day before book 7 came in the mail and I was chomping at the bit. I read it (all 700+ pages) in less than 48 hours. I cried and laughed and was horrified and overjoyed. The entire series is amazing and I recommend it to adults and children alike. I think some aspects are a little too scary for younger children.
My only complaint is that I would have liked a more detailed epilogue. You do get a glimpse at the end of the future of some of the remaining characters, but I would have liked a bit more detail and a bit more description as to how they got there and what happened to everyone else. I may have just had a hard time letting the characters go. As with any good fiction, you come to love and care for the characters and become emotionally invested in their journey so much that it almost becomes your own. I wasn't ready for it to end.
A wonderful enthralling read and a mostly satisfying end to a fantastic series. I would recommend it to anyone!

The seventh book in the Harry Potter series does not disappoint. Harry's adventures in the Deathly Hallows allow the reader to experience Harry's coming of age in a powerful and profound way. Many of the themes that have been laced throughout the first six books are drawn forth in this final installment and readers find themselves feeling more in this book than they had in the previous six.
In the Deathly Hallows, Harry takes on many characteristics of a completely grown man. Because Rowling had done such an excellent job of allowing the readers to follow Harry's maturation, this installment's coverage of Harry's character is impressive. He has really become a man who others can look up to. For a young reader Harry is a fantastic role model. His willingness to put others first speaks volumes about the kind of person he is. Without giving the end of the story away (though I am certain others may have done so) Harry goes to great lengths to ensure that others will be fine whether he is present or not.
Of course, Harry's partners in crime add just as much to this seventh installment as they had the previous six. The familial relationship created between Ron, Hermione, and Harry is a really great thing for the reader to be a part of. Most readers are able to relate to the type of friendship they have and as they read the text are able to put themselves in these young peoples' shoes. Would you give up an easier existence in order to be with your friends? It is certainly a testament to the quality of the characters in Rowling's text.
As usual, the reading level of the text and the depth of thought required to fully digest it has increased as Harry and the others have aged. For the middle and elementary school reader, many of the themes might begin to be over their heads. However, the general storyline and character development is still such that a young reader could find a great deal of enjoyment in this text. Though this seventh book is perhaps the darkest of the series, it is still a manageable read that interested readers will devour.
I would recommend this series, and this book in particular, to anyone I know with a love for fiction. It is difficult to remove oneself from the drama that consumes Harry and his friends and return to life in the real world. Once you pick up the book it will be difficult to focus upon anything else until you have completed the series and discovered the fate of Harry and his friends. For those of us who appreciate a tying up of loose ends, Rowling does not fail. You can close the book and rest well knowing the fate of all your most beloved characters.

J.K. Rowling once again pulls the reader into the world of Hogwarts, but this time Harry, Ron and Hermoine are on the run. Rowling did a wonderful job capturing the paranoia and fear of Voldemort that was parallel to the Nazi take over in 1940s Germany. Harry and his trusty posse do not know who to trust and their world seems to spin out of control in front of their very eyes. Beautifully crafted so all loose ends are tied, but a sadness is left as the characters move on as the story comes to a close. The book is hard to put down from Chapter One.

The "Interview with the Vampire", is a title that literally goes with this epic life story of a vampire named Louis. Anne Rice re-writes her own version of vampire tale. Filled with love, betrayal, loneliness, and a never before felt hunger, a young plantation owner named Louis is turned into a vampire who is distraught after losing his brother and giving up on life himself. The vampire Lestat who gives him the choice to die being nearly drained of all his blood or as he states "drink from me and live forever", takes Louis under his wing, teaching him of what he knows when Louis makes the choice to drink.
This whole book is about one man interviewing Louis as he has grown to be a vampire that is 200 years old. Louis tells of all that was changed when his rebirth took place and how his new broadened senses brought him to see the world as he had never seen or experienced it before. As Louis is taught by Lestat, he is to feed off of living creatures and their blood in order to have strength and survive. Louis chooses to stick with feeding off animals for a while, and is later bended by Lestat to accepting his "Killer" nature and begins to get used to feeding off humans.
Louis later in the story makes the mistake of feeding of a young child and then Lestat turns her into their vampire "daughter". Her real name is never revealed but Lestat decides to name her Claudia. Louis at first does not agree with this act, but begins to love and care for her as if they were family. Claudia becomes a fast expert at her new life and is just the cute and innocent looking little girl for the job. This is a great book to take a bite out of, and I myself did not want to put it down and the ending was definitely worth the wait.

I'm not sure if this book was any good or not. I haven't finished it. I couldn't. I never thought there would be a book that I couldn't finish, no matter how bad. I could never leave a book unfinished...until I read this. It bored the pants off me. It's still sitting on my bookshelf right now. Vampires are a very interesting subject...when Anne Rice isn't writing about them. Probably not worth the $0.29 my friend paid for it at Half-Price Books.

People are going to hate me for this review, I know it. This book started the WAHHHmpire genre. Thank you, for not writing about vampires anymore, Anne!
So, it's a vampire's life story. A very whiny life story. I don't know why everyone is so gaga over this book, because it actually....SUCKS!
Horrible pun intended.
The pace will quicken and you'll be flipping pages only to have it return to a sloth's crawl.
The characters blend into each other and muse pointlessly about existence.
Also, where's the eroticism I keep hearing about? J have read this series many times hoping to deepen my appreciation fot the VC. Hasn't worked yet.

Who cannot love Interview with the Vampire? No one I know. That is why I was one of many who was eager to get to Lestats story in this second book in the series. I realized right away that this was complete rubbish. Not even half way through it I had to put it down and read something else that was a million times more intelligent in order to keep my brain working. The tale itself was quite remarkable, however Anne Rice's writing is hideous. I cringed every time I read "as if" which happens about fifty times a page. If I ever read this again (which will likely never happen) I'm going to highlight ever time "as if" and "was" appears. I'll have a very colorful inside that is for sure. To sum this review up DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!

The Vampire Lestat is an enigmatic, gripping character iconic of the modern era: a man, however immortal, searching for not only a meaning that does not exist but an origin that defies everything anyone's ever said. A paradoxical being, he murders shamelessly but will only kill the villain. He rebels and yet is the iconoclast of many. He is everything Louis said about him in Interview with The Vampire, but he is so much more.
Lestat is the most compelling antihero I've had the pleasure of reading in a long time, and his "autobiography" is a beautiful piece of literature.

I think I have read this book 4 times since discovering Anne Rice and it remains and will remain the best Vampire novel ever written. I know Interview With the Vampire came first, but we didn't really get a sense of who Lestat was in IWTV. In this, we get to live and breath Lestat. His character is intoxicating and everything you wish a character to be. He is evil, he is cruel and mischievous and he is also utterly charming. He plays the gentleman and kills without thought. There are no proper words to describe his character. But you will fall in love with him as soon as you read his 'autobiography'. I swear you will believe in vampires and you will believe that Lestat is really flesh and blood and writing his little heart out to all of us.
Truly, this is not the cliched vampire novel that can be seen and read anywhere. It is utterly original and dramatic. The words will enthrall you from the very first sentence. It is a long book but never feels boring or dragging. It is very descriptive and I woudn't have it any other way. If you wish to read about a young man who was brutally turned into a vampire against his will and goes on an extroadinary journey, then you simply must read this book. Give Lestat a chance, I assure you, you will not be dissapointed.

How i wish all novels were written like this. I've read many Anne Rice novels, and this one is by far my favorire.
The Hero Lestat. the book is broken up into parts. The first part takes him from his childhood home in the mountains of France to Paris. We see his deep need to stand out, to be noticed. We geet to know his mother,Gabrielle, in this section as well. While young, he strikes up a friendship with Nicholas De Lenfent, another young man from his village. Together, they run away to Paris. Once there,Lestat(always rising above) becomes a stagehand at a nearby theater, and eventually goes onstage. His eventual fame attracts the eyes of a vampire, who takes Lestat and creates the hero we know today.
I could go on, about Lestats strugglew with his new state of being, and his many adventures, but then you wouldnt read the book!
This is truly one of Anne Rices best books.

My teenage sister could have written better than this made-for-TV-movie author. Full of cliche characters and predictable plot turns, it would probably make a good TV movie. I'm perturbed to see that Dan Brown books have somehow become the most popular things to read. Even the Da Vinci code turned into a painfully bad movie.

Like many people, I read this AFTER reading The Da Vinci Code. It provided some better insight into the main character, and while Da Vinci Code gets all the attention and controversy, I think that Angels & Demons is at least as controversial, if not more so. It is an adventurous, easily read exciting book, but the ending leaves something to be desired - it is not very plausible, if not simply impossible.

Robert Langdon a Harvard symbologist is woken in the middle of the night by a phone call that is going to change his life. This phone call may also change our lives.
Dan Brown weaves many story threads in to a tapestry of intrigue. The story takes place over a 24-hour period. A positive thing about this tale is that it is told in a linear fashion with very few flashbacks except when it is necessary for a back story. In this story he treats Robert Langdon's character like Langdon is not aware of many, well known technical items and theories; this may be true of Robert Langdon, but Dan Brown also irritatingly treats us like we don't know these things!
On the surface, we are treated to a "who did it" and "will we get there in time" story. We must separate the goats from the sheep. However, we are also confronted with science versus religion. Is science and religion like oil and water or is science and religion just two of the facets of God?

Overall: I have to rate this book three stars as the book has good promised but some very unbelievable elements and a poor ending which takes away from the interesting journey Dan Brown paints for the reader.
My main issue with the book is due to a few parts of the book that do not make sense, totally unbelievable and just take away from the story. It seems like Dan Brown was in a hurry to wrap up several parts of the story without thinking through how the reader will take away from the book. One can not fall from several miles in the with a tarp slowing you down slightly and land in a river with any chance of survival -- check out Mythbusters. This is so obviously a lame plot devious and show lack of thinking by the author it is embarrassing. The addtion of a Papal love child was pointless and distracting...Dan you know this was lame and should have pulled it the second you wrote it on your word processor.
Characters: Fairly two-dimensional and nothing to get excited about.
Plot: It had some very interesting elements to it. However, I figured out who the "bad" guy was in the first 40 pages. The illuminati angle was interesting with some good research.
Action: The action was not bad aside from Robert jumping out of a helicopter at 3 miles in the air without a parachute and surviving.
Prose: The prose style was mostly average with a few good scenes. Overall, Dan Brown is not a great writer; more like a good writer when he edits his work a couple of times.

I first read Anne Rice back in 1980 when I kept running across Interview With the Vampire in my travels. I loved it. Now in 2007 I have decided to read all her works in chronological order as she has written them. To get a feel for her progression over time.
I was disappointed that Lestat became a conscientious vampire in the second book of the The Vampire Chronicles series, The Vampire Lestat. And although the third in the series, The Queen of the Damned had a fast an interesting story, the ending of that novel was so swift and ludicrous its value dropped below any kind of star.
But this fourth in the Vampire Chronicles, The Tale of the Body Thief had a swift and interesting story and really brought back to me the power of this writer. I believe this novel is one of the last of Anne Rice's works where she has the reader "observe a tale" rather than have the reader watch a character "recount a tale." This latter tendency of Anne Rice becomes montonous and ho-hum and I just want her to kick in with the story and accelerate me along which she admirably does in TTotBT.
Too Bad her high-octane stories receive less attentention over the years to the mundane fire-side chats of her later novels. For me I want Anne Rice to bring me along on the Roller Coaster of her erie imagination as she does so well in this novel. When you finish this one you will need to catch your breath.
I reserve a star because Rice does persue a tendancy of pedantry here but is really innocuous and on the whole a memorable read. Thanks Anne.

Some time has passed since the Queen of the Damned, and Lestat is a bit depressed. He tries to get a tan, but that doesn't work, and he can't talk his best human friend into becoming a vamp.
Thereafter we get a triangle, after the Body Thief turns up, and offers to switch bodies with Lestat, then Talbot gets a turn at youth, etc. Eventually Lestat gets mad, and does away with BT and turns Talbot.
A significant drop in quality from the first three books.

This documentary was very immense, intense and mind boggling. You learn many new things that you have never ever realized possible with this documentary. The Secret Service is what I believe to be the most experienced federal agency. This video teaches a lot about the Secret Service and the way they do things. Their adaption to the many environments the President travels in and through are just very surprising. This is a must see for people seeking education into the Secret Service.

What gives?! The product listing for Unbox said you'd deliver videos with DVD quality. They look more like YouTube quality videos. Seriously, they're not even as good as plain old standard TV. They would have looked pretty OK on my iPod, but they weren't much fun to look at on my 42" LCD screen. Everything was soft and fuzzy in most scenes and the tonal scale was very limited. Just so you know, DVD quality isn't an arbitrary standard-- it's 480P, not 240x160.
To make things even less enjoyable, your servers delivered the product at an excruciating pace. Ready to watch in 15 minutes?! No. More like three hours. There was the occasional burst of data at 1500 Kbps, but it was generally around 400 Kbps. I ordered eight 42 minute episodes more than 24 hours ago and am still downloading the last one. Not impressive.

When I first tried to watch "Enterprise" I honestly didn't think I'd like it. When it was on T.V. I missed several episodes because they had a bad time slot. But now, that I'm able to watch them when I have the time, I truly feel this is one of the best Star Trek series made. Scott Bakula is great! I know some think he was the weakest or worst of the captains, but I thought for this role of one of the first captains to represent mankind to the galaxy, Bakula was the best choice. He already held a persona at least in my mind of being an very moral convicted and passionate man. Most of that probably came from the role he played as Dr. Sam Beckette on Quantum Leap (of which I was also a huge fan). When you think about how Gene Rodenberry portrayed TOS, with a high standard for moral conduct, very little character conflict, and a strong sense of family - you need all those things in Starfleets first captain to show us how it got to that point. And Scott Bakula fits that bill. This first season is packed with exciting stories, real adventure, and thought provoking writing. This series is well worth every penny you'll spend and it will answer many questions about the beginnings of this wonderful, positive and adventuresome world we call Star Trek!!!

The downloads offered here seem to come up short. I don't see "Carbon Creek" anywhere, and the first season doesn't have a discount. Enterprise is a great show that was canceled before its time, but the downloads don't seem to do it justice.

"Fallen Hero" very good (excellent for 1st season of ST:E)! However, the Amazon summary "stars" *** is based on reviews of which only TWO out of TEN (currently) discuss "Fallen Hero." I'm giving it ***** rather than the **** which it deserves to compensate a little.
The preview, albeit the lead-in to the episode, is followed immediately by orders from Star Fleet Command directing Enterprise to retrieve a Vulcan ambassador being recalled in disgrace. I suppose Amazon is bound by contract only to show the lead-in, but this one gives absolutely NO feeling for the actual content. I suspect the downloads on this one would increase greatly if Amazon were able to show, for example, what follows immediately after the 1st commercial would have been.

This book is a terrible, terrible waste of a textbook. The authors spend quite a bit of time talking about absolutely nothing in the book. They oftentimes show examples that are very trite and obvious for anyone to do, but then assign much harder problems. I was very annoyed that they never even bothered to do a complete Kirchoff's rules circuit problem. They emphasize absolutely NO conceptual understanding of the material. I can cite no redeeming qualities of the book except perhaps for decent diagrams.
This is written as a graduate physicist; I am no stranger to difficult physics problems. The problems jump from stupidly easy to difficult in a way that is hard for first years, and I sympathize with their difficulty with this book.

I am in a beginner physics class this semester and this book is the required text. So far it is like trying to read Greek. I am a relatively good student with the ability to figure out problems but no matter the wording used or the examples given, this book is just plain confusing. The problems at the end of the chapters are rediculously hard and don't seem to be covered in the least little bit within the chapter. The author's attempt at explaining the Pythagorean Theorem was even confusing, shouldn't that be one of the easier ideas? I think I'm in big trouble!!!!!
Books like this are the reason people abandon physics!

I am by no means incompetent, as I am an honors student and have no problem getting strait A's in calculus, linear algebra and object oriented programming, but this book is abysmal and almost impossible to follow. The book is horrible on so many levels. First off, many of the chapters start off throwing equations at you, and offer no clarity as to the purpose of the equation. The text very poorly explains concepts and the problems given throughout the book are even worse. The problems given during the chapters literally throw information out at you that was'nt ever touch upon in the entire chapter, and to make matters worse, i've counted 4 problems that have incorrect solutions, and thats only chapter 2! This is a very poorly written, even worse explained book. I dont mind sadistically difficult problems at the end of a chapter, if the book did a good job of teaching me the concepts and computations to answer the problem, unfortunately this book does neither. Whats funny is that our teacher started the semester by saying, he does'nt like the book, but were using it while he researches a better book for us to use. Sadly, I could have walked into a book store, and grabbed ANY physics book, and it would have been better then this one. Luckily I have several other physics books that peice together the missing information for me, but for a textbook that students depend on to learn the subject, it should'nt be required.

I am not at all impressed with the 7th ed. I am now using another textbook instead of the the College Physics 7th ed required for my class.
The text itself if so-so. The text explanations of concepts are unclear and unnecessarily wordy, not the worst out there but certainly nothing to scream about. One of the irritating tendencies was that simple explanations of even basic concepts were few and far between, and often hidden in the middle of muddy piles of minor trivia. But these are not my major gripes.
What I really dont like: The makings of the text are simply sloppy. Questions covering ideas not mentioned in the book, incorrect answers, or improperly-referenced answers abound. The pages are crammed with so much visual clutter it's hard to find important points. The solutions manual only covers 20% of the questions! Nearly every other textbook covers all odd-numbered, sometimes even ALL of them! Yet this one still costs just as much. You have to submit personal information just to access the "free" website, which doesnt have that much anyways.
For crying out loud, the guy wrote this edition had to come on here to give the ratings for the book a boost! And one other 5-star rater was almost certainly someone from the book's publisher or team. Read through the ratings, you will see which one I mean.

I am a chemistry teacher and I am taking a college physics course as a review for an exam. The text has problems worked out but they are difficult to follow, and the problems at the end of the chapter are entirely impossible. It seems one person wrote the text and a different person wrote the end of text questions and another wrote the solutions. I am using other texts to help but unfortunately my teacher requires me to solve problems from this text. May God bless everyone who has to use this text. Teachers, professors, please rethink using this text.

I had to get this book for my college course and I can say it really is quite bad. There doesn't seem to be enough useful examples and it really is quite hard to learn much from this book. There are also a lot of errors in this book. Many questions are worded poorly too.
